He offered a polite smile, but tried to remove any sense of pressure from his words; the last thing he wanted was for her to accompany him when really she would have rather gone with someone else, or her friends perhaps. Patiently, he waited for her answer, and although he appeared perfectly calm on the outside, inwardly he felt a bit more fidgety than he was used to.

But as the boy stood there, she looked up and saw that he was smiling. She immediately tried to cover that bored face, "I--uh..." she stuttered. What had he just said? Must be a 'May I join you?', because he was smiling... But also he might have just introduced himself. Oh well... She tried her best and said "I'm Avdotya..." She smiled politely. "Come, sit." She added after a while. As he was standing, it sounded a wise thing to say...

"That would be great!" Deedee said grining her broadest smile yet. She has just been asked by a cute courteous guy from Durmstrang, Whoop she thought. She looked at him thinking of something to say but nothing occurred to her, so she just looked at his deep eyes awkwardly. She was wondering what he was thinking, but couldn't ask him which was weird of her. She never really hesitated to say what's on her mind but now she felt different.

"Hallo Avdotya, I'm Hansi better known as Hanz." Hanz introduced himself offering his hand as he sat down beside her. He thought that he was supposed to say something, yet nothing came out. I wish I was as good as Deedee he thought. His sister wouldn't have found any trouble in starting a perfectly normal conversation with the girl, yet he couldn't.

Dunya shook his hand. "And I'm known as Dunya but you can call me with either names, I don't care." she said and stopped, obviously thinking something. Hansi... She wasn't sure where he was from. Hansi seemed like a German name to her. "So... where are you from?" she asked to clarify.

phoenix_tears 07-04-2009 01:17 PM

He smiled at her, "Yea, I am German." He said, and feeling the need to explain he added, "But we moved here a long time ago because of my father's job." He paused. "And you're from?" He asked her.

Oh German... Dunya's family was a bit racist and they didn't like any nation who had declared war against Russia. Dunya didn't have anything to any nation so she could keep calm and still smile at Hanz while wondering what her dad would do if he found out his daughter was trying to become friends with a German. "I bet you miss your country." she said. Who wouldn't? "Oh, I'm from Russia. Durmstrang." she said and wondered if he had such strong patriotic emotions. She didn't want to lose the only person who was talking to her.

Oh this was the most French accenty sentence Arkady had heard. And he didn't understand at all. Not a tiny part of it that he could make sense. He guessed she just mentioned a dish and wanted to continue with that topic, but he didn't want to seem like a stupid either. He stood there for a moment, deciding what to say. "Which dish ish it?" he finally said. "And what'sh itz name, again?" If his guess was wrong... Then he'd be the biggest idiot.

Leslee giggled again and pointed at the small grayish circles in individual holes and covered with golden butter and herbs. Eet's zat one, zere. She eyed him carefully before saying, I sould warn you - zey are znails. She chuckled.

He added in explanation pointing at Deedee. "Russia, I've never been there." He said thoughtfully, he always wondered about Russia having been through Germany's muggle and wizard history alike. He wondered if Dunya's family would be like many Russian families he knew although not personally but decided against asking. He didn't want to start his knew friendship like that, and the girl looks fine and sweet too, he thought. "So tell me about you." He said lamely.

Arkady's spoon reached for them and had already been gone back full to his mouth when she said something similar to 'nails'. He immediately lowered his spoon with a half covered disgusted face. "Nails? Like... A human nail?" No... This French people weren't that insane, were they? He must have heard it wrong...

Dunya followed his finger and saw Deedee and looked back at Hanz again. "To be honest, you don't look alike much..." she said honestly. "I've been to Germany, to Hamburg, Berlin and... I think it was Frankfurt." she said, frowning. "So, which is your city?" She liked Germany, just the rain was a huge problem. She had been there for a week and it always rained!

At his next question, she thought for a while. "Well..." What to say? "I like walking--how do you call it, jogging?-- Quidditch... I'm a good listener." 'Now, what was your purpose by saying this? To have him tell his secrets to you?!' "I uh... Also have a big brother. Think that's all. Anything else you wanna know?" she said and added after a while "Now your turn."

Cedric 07-04-2009 10:08 PM

OOC: Hmmm.... when do you guys want this ball to be?

Dmitri's smile stretched up to his eyes, all traces of nervousness disappeared. "Brilliant," he responded, enjoying the sudden elation coursing through his body. "Thank you.. for coming with me," he added as he locked his fingers together and placed his hands on his lap. He had come to realize that he was taking more of a liking to Hogwarts than he had supposed. "Have you been to a ball before?" He asked, wondering whether dances and such were more common at her school. "We typically do not have them at Durmstrang."

"I'm from Bonn, if you come again you can visit us at Bonn." He answered her, maybe she'd think he was just being nice and courteous but he wasn't he had really taken a liking to the girl which he himself couldn't explain. "I like Quidditch too, I play seeker." He said, then thought about what to tell her. "I like reading, and I wasn't a social person until today when I came and talked to you." He said smiling, he wasn't even sure why he came. He just felt like he wanted to talk to someone which was something he has never felt before.

Deedee was very glad to see him smiling, which made his features look more and more handsome than ever. She smiled back, "I have been to a ball before, but none of them was at school." She said frowning, trying to remember if there has been any balls at Hogwarts other than the one. "Neither here at Hogwarts, we've never had a ball before!" She said, the excitment of the ball returning yet again.

ooc: How about a week from now, or after a Hogsmeade weekend so we can buy robes.

Cedric 07-05-2009 11:55 PM

OOC: Sounds good. =)

"Yes, me too," Dmitri answered with a nod. "I've only been to ones outside of school. But I suppose that just makes this ball even more of a big deal," he added, sweeping his dark hair away from his eyes. He couldn't help but smile whenever he looked at Deedee; her eyes were always so inviting that it was impossible not to continue a conversation with her. "So. What are your hobbies? Well.. besides befriending strange, foreign students."

phoenix_tears 07-06-2009 07:43 AM

Deedee laughed at his mentioning her first hobby, "I like Quidditch, although I quit playing on the team." She said, then shivered remembering the day she had to quit playing because she had done so badly in her studies and her mother was so mad she made her quit the team. "It was really sad y'know, my mum got so mad because I haven't been studiyng well enough then she made me quit the team." She explained, "I might tryout again this year though" She added thoughtfully, her mother was queit cool about the idea too as Deedee managed to pull her grades back into shape. "I love swiming too, I can't wait for the summer term to swim in the lake." She said returning to the conversation yet again. "What I like the most though, I don't think it's considered a hobby. I love listening to Hanz reading me one of the novels he reads, as I don't like to read myself." She finished, that was pretty much what she liked to do. "What about you?" She asked him, to her he seemed somehow a little like Hanz but more open in a way.

Oooooooh, snail! Still not good. Not good at all. Arkady again wanted to ask for he had no appetite to snails. "Ah, fink I gott it right, now. Snails, don't you mean? The one wif..." He stopped. No need to say they had boogies. "Wif a, what's its name, shelter?" he tried to cover his stupidity. He eyed Leslee and she didn't vomit. So, it was a nice sign, that they could be eaten, right? He took a bite too. They really were nice. "Thish tashtes gooood." he said and smiled.

Bonn? No, Dunya didn't know there. She didn't know many places at Germany anyway, her trip was unpleasant with full of arguements with her parents about how bad German people were. "I don't think I can come back..." Dunya muttered with a bitter smile. And she didn't think the boy really meant that invitation anyway. "Woow, seeker! That must be hard!" she said and remembered Rodya... her ex. She gulped hard and went on. But for the first time, she didn't know what to say to a male. "I... am really glad you came and talked." she said and smiled, this time sweetly.

OOC: So what now, we'll end this feast and move a week after, at Hogsmade?

LaFresita 07-06-2009 04:44 PM

Leslee swallowed and smiled before answering, Zhells, wee. She watched him carefully as he took a bite and was delighted that he seemed to like them. Very good, I'm so 'appy you are enjoying zem. She smiled once more.

"Why not?" Hanz asked as she muttered that she didn't think she can go back there. "Yea, well it is a hard job being a seeker." He looked at her and noticed an uneasy look on her face, then she smiled at him. "What's wrong?" He asked her, she might not want to tell. But Hanz was very observant, which as Deedee always tells him makes people uncomfortable around him.

Cedric 07-08-2009 12:27 AM

OOC: By the way, I PMed the other participants the other day about posting in this thread again, but they haven't responded. Also, Hogsmeade sounds good after this.

"Oh, that's a shame you had to quit quidditch. But I think you should certainly try out again this year; I won't paint my chest for the team, though I will root for you at all the matches," Dmitri told her with a smile. When the question was directed back at him, he thought about it for a few seconds before responding. "I also like books. Very much. Although, I read them to myself." He glanced around the Great Hall, searching for his other hobbies. It was odd how he could have so many interests, yet when asked about them, he could never come up with much of a list. "Oh, and sketching. Art, in general, but I prefer to stick with charcoal, graphite, and pen. I enjoy oils and watercolors, although I haven't had as much practice with them as I'd like."

Zhell? Arkady was sure the thing on them were called 'shelter', because it was their shelter. But he never minded to be corrected, and now it was done by a pretty girl. "Zhells, yesh." he said, trying hard to pronounce the word while he was searching his brain for a 'zhell' word. He hadn't heard it before. Whatever, now he knew. He smiled along with her, unsure how to continue the conversation.

Oh... great. Hanz asked Dunya why she wouldn't go back to Germany. She couldn't just say her family was racist. "I--uh... Well... it's just a long way. Yeah... it was a bit expensive too." she stuttered. She lied, she felt the shame in every small cell of her body. She looked down and hoped Hanz hadn't noticed this, along with her being blushed now. LaFresita 07-08-2009 04:25 PM

Leslee smiled and nodded slightly. She looked around the room - it appeared that dinner was almost over. She turned back to Arkady, a little sad at what she was going to say. Well, I zink I'm going to go back to ze common room for a beet. It was so odd, saying the words 'common room'. She wasn't used to them.

StarShine 07-08-2009 04:38 PM

Common rooms? "Uhh... OK." Arkady said. He couldn't catch the last part of her sentence, "a beet". "Which common room will you go to?" he asked. He wanted to go to Ravenclaw. He had heard it was the most clever one. "I'll go to Ravenclaw, if I can find the way."

LaFresita 07-08-2009 04:50 PM

Leslee frowned at this. Zer is more zan one? I did not know. She looked around, realizing that she must have been sitting at this 'Ravenclaw' table.

StarShine 07-09-2009 02:42 PM

How come she didn't know? When Arkady learnt that they might be going to Hogwarts, he quickly gathered every book he could find about there and read. "Yesh, there are four houses." he said, still couldn't understand how she didn't do a research. "Gryffindoh, Ravenclaw, Hufiepuff end Shlytherin. Everi house hash a, um, speciality, ish it? Gryffindoh ish brave, Ravenclaw ish clever, Huffiepuff ish honest end Shlytherin ish clever onli for their ambitions."

Deedee was simply flattered when he told her that he'd be there for her at the matches, he sounded so sincere not like all these other guys who just liked flirting. She hadn't heard any sincerety in anyone's voice since Matt, but after all Matt didn't turn out that sincere she thought. "I love art too." She chirruped, "Though I'm not much of an artist." She added smiling, she couldn't draw more than two circles stringed together. "Can I see some of your drawings?" She asked him hopefully, she knew that people didn't show their best work to someone they have just met, yet she felt very different about Dmitri as if she had known he'd be here all along. People were moving out of the Great Hall around them but she didn't notice. She was focusing so much on him, on their conversation that everything around her felt like shadows.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Hanz muttered as she mentioned her ex, why did he have to remember Liz now he thought annoyed. "So we're in the same boat." He said smiling, trying to make the subject light. "My ex has left a long time ago too." He explained his eyes twinkling. He leaned over towards and brushed away a lock of her hair that was threatning to cover her eyes. Smiling as she changed the subject to Quidditch he said, "I bet you're really good and my tricks will be old art to you."
He suddenly noticed that everyone around them was moving out of their seats and out of the hall, so he stood up. "Come on let's go." He said offering his hand for her. He knew they were in different houses but thought that he'd walk with her until outside the hall at least.

God, who would leave such a cute boy like Hanz? But then again, everyone asked this question when Dunya broke up too, "Oh Avdotya, what kind of person would leave you?!" "I'm sorry for you too..." she muttered, though Dunya was very glad that he didn't notice her lie and just jumped to this ex convo. She hoped that this'd be her last lie to him.

Dunya laughed. "Nah, I've just seen some tricks in matches. Though I won't deny that I tried some and succeeded... Still, I think you got something to show." she said with a smile.

Dunya looked around too. She looked around. "OK... but uh... I don't know any house here. Therefore don't know where to go." she admitted when he offered his hand. She held his hand while thinking 'I do know where to go, to your house.' "Does it really matter which house I go for sleeping?" she asked looking confused where to go. She was in "clever" house in Durmstrang and she had no idea which house was clever here.
