| | Javy & Piers: Boys will be boys..
It was nearing the end of the Summer of 2062. Naturally, one of the busiest days for Diagon Alley, with the many witches and wizards roaming around to collect their new school supplies and everything. This was the first time for Javy, who remained quiet throughout it all.
" Why don't you get yourself some nice robes to help you fit in more." His mother would gently suggest, before bestowing the few money they had. Javy knew better than to argue, since it wasn't a regular occurrence for him to have money to spend. " Your father and I will be waiting back at the Pub when you're ready to go." She last said before he was left alone.. alone in front of Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. It was literally only a week ago that he had to hear all about being a wizard and how different of a life he'll have than his muggle family. Lucky him.. supposedly.
Pocketing his money, since he found the idea of holding it out in front of others to be stupid and just asking to be robbed. He was in no rush to go in just yet, instead taking in all the shops surrounding him. Javy was going to need to get use to the area eventually, after all. So standing around to loiter he did. |

Piers was zig-zagging in and out of crowds and clumps of people, uttering an apology only to those he smacked hard enough into. But he had something important to do. He was currently chasing a rather speedy toad down the alley and he had to catch it because he stole it and then ran away, but it had jumped out of his hands. He was a rather impulsive kid. Luckily, his dad had taken a walk, so he was left on his own for an hour or so to get some of his school stuff. So far, all he had was a stolen toad.
As he neared the robes shop, Piers was gaining ground on the leaping creature, but it was hopping towards a tight space between a group of people and a kid his age by the entrance.
Welp. He was going for it. "WATCH OUT!" he yelled as he lept across the gap and dive-bombed the frog, hitting the other kid with like, half of his body as he did so. After laying there for a moment, he felt something wiggling beneath him and he popped his head up to see what it was. HAH! He caught the darn thing!

After laying there for a moment, he felt something wiggling beneath him and he popped his head up to see what it was. HAH! He caught the darn thing! So after a few moments, Javy was getting bored. It didn't take long to make him bored standing around. Turning just about to go inside he heard some croaking. Frog croaking, to be exact.
" Where did you come from?" He bent down to pick it up and hold it. Javy thought about examining it to see if there were any distinct differences between the frogs from the muggle area and the ones in the wizard area. He only knew so little and was getting a little excited at the thought of learning more about this new world... Until the collision that was.
" Hey!" Javy yelled out as soon as he fell flat on his rump as some body was partially over his feet but the rest all over the ground. He supposed he could ask if the boy was okay, but honestly his first thoughts were on that frog he was holding before. The thought that it probably got squished from their collision vanished as soon as he heard the familiar croaks, in the other boy's hands now. " ...Is that yours?" What a shame, if it was, since he'll have to be nice enough to even look at it.

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia Apparently he had also caught the kid under his feet. Whoops? After making sure the frog wasn't, like, DYING, Piers stood up, making sure to hold onto it so it wouldn't escape. "Sorry," Piers said to the other boy, holding the frog to his chest and extending his free hand to help him up. He was nice when he wasn't chasing things. Plus, his dad was somewhere on this street, and he'd probably found out if he had hurt somebody.
Was the frog his? "Uhhh..." Just as he was thinking about how to answer he saw, up the street a ways, one of the Menagerie workers stalking down the street with a very furrowed unibrow. Most likely looking for him and that frog. His eyes widened. "No. I mean yes. But no. Here, you can have it. Now it's yours." Piers shoved the frog over to the other kids chest and hid behind him as the worker came closer. Before the man could find them, they needed to hide, now that he had included this random boy in his thievery. Oops?
So he grabbed the kid by the color and dragged him into the robes store with him. He was too young to get arrested. Especially over a toad.

So he grabbed the kid by the color and dragged him into the robes store with him. He was too young to get arrested. Especially over a toad. Javy merely looked up at the boy who seemed to be perfectly fine. Good, he didn't have to look weak by showing care. Sorry. He then blinked. That was weird to him, as not many were quick to apologise after knocking someone down to get what was supposedly theirs. " ..Thanks," Javy got up before brushing himself off. See, he had some strength in him.
Now Javy had a reason to be suspicious of him, with the delay on the answer. Uhhhh, yeah that's a no. What is up with him? He couldn't help but think while noticing the strange behavior.. and then he admitted it. " Oh.. I get it." Stolen frog, need to hide. Javy knew this game well, from hiding items back home. Accepting the frog before stuffing it in his shirt pocket.
The grabbing by the collar was overkill to Javy on the hurriedness though, making him swat his hand away. " I got it man, relax.." Casually looking behind to see if anyone was onto them. Last thing they needed was to get the shopping clerks inside suspicious. " So where'd you get him at?" That way he knew which shop to avoid today.

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia Piers was kind of too busy keeping an eye on the unibrow shopkeeper that he wasn't really paying much attention to the other kid at the moment. He did notice that he hid the frog. Good. He caught on quick. Ignoring the hand swat, Piers peeked out the robes shop window to watch the angry unibrow walk past. Phew! Off the hook.
He grinned at the other kid who now held the frog. "That Menagger-whatever place with all the animals," he replied. Of course, now he'd have to have his mum or dad go in and buy him a real pet. He didn't actually want a toad. He just wanted to see if he could get away with stealing one (which he had).
Well, now that that was over, Piers looked around at the robes in the shop. He supposed he could get some while he was here, since his parents were trusting him to actually get school stuff while they were out. He liked to do stuff by himself, so they had actually gave him some time to do so today, but he had to prove that he could actually be counted on to do it. "Do you have robes yet? Do you go to Hogwarts? My name is Piers." Hi. His name was Piers. He had energy. |

His curiosity escaped him, wondering if they had wizard ducks mainly.. or dogs too. He had no clue what counted as a pet in this side of the world, besides toads and frogs.
Well, now that they were inside he might as well, pretend to look interested in the robes. They were very drab to him, with no distinctive patterns unless it was a scarf. Oh, more questions.. and blinking from Javy. " Piers.. that's French, isn't it?" Yea, that stood out to him since his was foreign as well. Walking towards some of the racks, to look for his size, " I don't have my robes yet, but I am starting Hogwarts this year. Are you going as well?" Oh, right the last thing that proved he had manners. " I'm Javy.. short for Javier." Holding his hand out, it seemed like the energy was contagious.

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia Had he never been there before? That's weird, but he didn't question it. "They have a lot. Kneazles, crups, lizards and stuff. They don't have owls, though. You have go to Eeylops for those, but they have everything else." But Eeylops had a ton of owls, so it was probably a good thing those two shops weren't connected. Too much animal poop to clean up.
Piers followed the boy to the racks of robes and looked for size. He held one up to himself, but it looked a little too big, so he kept looking through the options. "Yeah, I guess so." Piers shrugged in response to the other boy's question. Piers was the only Piers he knew, and he was half-French, so... yeah, his name was French. He hadn't really thought about it before.
Hey, he was starting at Hogwarts this year too! "Hey, me too! What house do you want to be in? I want to be in Slytherin. That's where all the cool kids go." He grinned as he picked up a robe that looked about his size and draped it over his shoulder to keep his hands free. "Hi," he replied to his new friend, Javy. "Where are you from?" Because Javy wasn't a normal name. |

Nodding about the owls, he definitely knew about those. Suddenly, he was wishing he had asked more questions during that sit down talk with his family when some of the Ministry came over to explain things. It sucked being the dumb one.
Speaking of.. how were the robes meant to look. Did they need to drape to his ankles? His toes? His knees? Picking one out the try on, he put it back after seeing the sleeves drape over his fingers. Yeah, not that one. Looking back at Piers, he couldn't help but blink again at the house. " ..House?" I thought we were living in a castle.. can it actually fit real houses? And what is a Slytherin-style? He ignored the 'cool kids' part, since he didn't know Piers that long enough to determine what he considers to be 'cool'.
" Hi.." Since it was good manners to reply to that. " I'm from Spain... the farms of Madrid." Since he didn't fully confirm on his name's origin. " What about you?"

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia Javy didn't seem to talk much, did he? Oh well. "Do you know what kind of pet you want? Besides a toad." Cuz he totally had one of those now, thanks to Piers. "I wouldn't blame you if you don't keep the toad. They're not very useful. I want my own owl so I don't have to borrow the school's. Plus, I hear you can train them to bring you stuff when you're too lazy." And if that wasn't the best reason to have an owl, he didn't know what was.
If Javy was confused about what "house" meant, Piers didn't catch onto it. He had picked out two more robes his size and now he was onto the next rack to find dress shirts. Maybe he just hadn't decided where he wanted to get sorted. "Better not get Hufflepuff. Susie Anders' older sister was a Hufflepuff and she got teased all the time." Susie Anders' sister did have rather funny hair, though.
Ooooh, Spain. "I went there once when I was little." But he was really little, so he couldn't remember it. "You live on a farm?" he asked, looking back at him. He wondered what kind of stuff he did on a farm. |

He wondered what kind of stuff he did on a farm. Javy looked down into his shirt pocket at that question. Luckily the toad was behaving and being calm. " .. I had one. It was a duck though." Saying that in a solemn tone. The mention on toads not being useful though.. " Well, actually.. the toads are great for testing on when they behave. Also, since some people are afraid of them they're good for pranks too." Not that Javy was an expert on pranks... or was he? Ahem.
From the little he's getting to know of Piers. Javy had to admit, he definitely knew more than what those Ministry people ever told him. You know what that now meant for him. " Sorry, but.. what's Hufflepuff? I wasn't told about any of the houses at Hogwarts." So, yeah. Spill your knowledge because he was hungry for it.
Another fact on this Piers. He was rich. Compared to Javy that is, who had never left the country in his almost-twelve years of living until this summer. " Yeah, my family works and lives on the farm. Growing and selling food to the markets." He considered for a moment before adding, " They're muggles.." In case he had no clue what he was talking about.

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia Distracted by other things, Piers didn't really catch onto the past use of 'had' and 'was'. "You have a pet duck? I wonder if they'll let you bring it." Because the list just said rat, toad, owl, or cat, didn't it? Hmm. A duck was kind of a strange pet to have, but that was cool. Piers looked at Javy when he mentioned pranking and started grinning. "Good thinking." Maybe he SHOULD keep the toad. He could put it in Susie Anders' hair!
What's a Hufflepuff? Piers gave him a quizzical look. "It's one of the houses at Hogwarts. There's four. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin." Maybe he didn't have older siblings or neighbors with older siblings to talk about Hogwarts stuff. But Piers didn't have any siblings either, and he had learned a lot of this stuff from his dad, since he had gone to Hogwarts. "My dad was in Gryffindor, but he doesn't mind what house I get." Shrug.
So, his family lived and worked on the farm. He would have thought his farm had people to do the work for them. If they sold all the food, couldn't they afford it? Piers' face changed a little bit when Javy mentioned that his parents were muggles. "Oh." He tossed another shirt onto his shoulder. "I've never met anyone whose mom and dad were muggles." He pondered that for a moment. That must be why Javy didn't know much about Hogwarts houses. "That's cool, though. You must be wicked good at magic." It made sense in his head. All that muggle blood and then - BAM! Outta nowhere, there was a wizard. He had to be pretty special, right? |

He seemed to have a tiny hearing issue, but it wouldn't be wise to bring up that he longer had a duck. Who would want to talk and remember about dead stuff? Blinking instead, " Thanks.. I think I'll settle with an owl too now that you mentioned it." As for the toad, well, Javy wasn't considering tossing it out right now.
" You seem to know alot.." Strange names.. but that Raven and Slither one sounds kind of interesting. " So how do they decide what house we get into. Is it just random or by our.. skills?" Which would be a little concerning to Javy. What if he got put into the house with the dumb people just because he didn't know what sort of questions to ask. Talk about ego bruising.
Well, Javy didn't know how Piers would take the news. He figured not too many wizards and witches had only muggle parents like him.. He didn't expect the compliment though. " ..You think so?" Not that he needed the validation, but still.. Pretty shocking to hear. Piers was a little strange to Javy.. but the good kind of strange.

He shrugged and moved onto the weird pointy hats they had to wear. "My dad went to Hogwarts. All the kids on my street do, too." He had grown up in the wizarding community in Upper Flagley, so he had learned all sorts of things about Hogwarts when the older kids would come home for the summer.
Of course, growing up in Upper Flagley meant he also heard what the other kids said about muggleborns. He thought it was kind of dumb, though, being mean to somebody just because their parents were muggles. Piers thought it was kind of cool that wizards just appear in a family tree of muggles. So Piers nodded at Javy. "Yeah." He was probably dead good at magic and he didn't even know. 'Cause right now he looked kind of clueless. "I'm from France, by the way," Piers said, responding to his earlier question. "Mum's French, dad's English, but I lived in France 'til I was 8. Then I moved here with my dad." And those few years between eight and eleven years old had quite a bit of moving. |

" So what does your dad do?" Since he already talked about what his family did for a living.
By now they both had their robes and accessories.. well, almost all. " Beanies.. these look way cooler." Reaching out for a grey one. It'd go with one of his scarfs. " So what else do you know about Hogwarts?" Since he still was hungry on the information side.

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia "You mean, you've always lived on a farm?" he asked curiously. Piers was 11 and he'd already lived in a few different places, in France and in England. Living in one place for so many years kind of seemed boring. Oh well. "My dad works in the Ministry of Magic," he responded proudly. "He works in the Department of International Cooperation and he speaks, like, five different languages." Yeah, his dad was COOL.
Oooh, beanies! Piers walked over to where Javy was looking and snagged a green one off the hanger. "I love beanies. Too bad we can't wear these at the opening feast." They had to wear the dumb pointy hats. Piers added the green one to his pile of clothes, as well as a blue and a grey one. "I know lots of stuff about Hogwarts. Everyone gets sorted into a house with this hat that they put on your head and it, like, reads your brain or something and picks a house for you. And you can win points for your house and win the house cup at the end of the year. And there's Quidditch! Each house has a Quidditch team! Oh, and Trevor Abbott says there's ghosts, too! They haunt the common rooms and all over the castle and stuff." Piers beamed as he rambled on about what he knew about Hogwarts from what his neighbors had told him. |

Not that it was a horrible thing for Javy. " It's not so bad, I get to hang out with all the animals and stay outside longer than anyone." Even if it was because of his chores, but hey, he wasn't the type to knock himself down in front of people. Especially with how interesting Piers' home life was. " That's pretty neat. Did you ever get to hang out with him at work much?"
" Well, at least it's only at the feast." Because Javy was not wearing that pointy hat all the time. " Do tell and don't skip out on anything." Drinking in all the information. A mind-reading hat.. Blinking at the image of his own thoughts being read. " ...Quidditch?" What an odd name for a sport. Least he expected it to be a sport at the mention of 'team'. " They let ghosts roam around? Isn't that dangerous?" Not that he was scared just that.. Sending kids to live where there was danger. Talk about odd.
Looking around seeing as they weren't being bothered at all. " So where's your dad at?" Javy asked. Perhaps Piers too was given the go ahead to roam around. " My parents let me get my stuff alone so we don't have to stay here for long."

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia Always lived on a farm? That seemed like a lot of work to Piers. Doing.... farm stuff all day, all year, all life long. Phew. "What kind of animals do you have?" Because he liked animals. Like dogs, and stuff. He had a dog. "No," Piers responded to Javy's question about his dad's work. "He doesn't really talk about work much 'cause some of it's secret." He shrugged. So, no take-your-kid-to-work-days for Piers. But Javy got that every day, he bet.
Piers grinned when Javy told him not to skip anything. Piers liked to chat and Javy was willing to listen, so he was in a good mood. He was usually in a good mood, though. "Merlin, you don't know what Quidditch is?!" he asked, visually astounded at how little his new friend knew. But, no worries because Piers would surely tell him all he needed to know. He nodded to Javy as he looked around the store more. He was pretty certain he had everything he needed. "Oh, yeah. The Slytherin ghost is really mean, I've heard. But I don't think they can hurt you, they just give you the creeps sometimes. My grandma used to have a ghost in her attic but he was real nice." He shrugged again. Just depended on the ghost.
Where was his dad? "Dunno. Walking around somewhere. He let me go off my own for a little bit." He looked at Javy because of the way he said that. "Do your parents like this kind of stuff?" he asked carefully. "Like, magic and stuff?" |

"Do your parents like this kind of stuff?" he asked carefully. "Like, magic and stuff?" " Quite a lot, actually. We have sheep, horses, cattle, pigs, dogs and ducks." The latter being his most favorite. Ahem, time to divert from the memory of his late duckling. " Was this toad your only pet?" Yes, the one still behaving all comfortable in his shirt pocket. " Oh, I see." It was too bad, he was getting interested in finding out what sort of work the magic side got into.
Yep, Javy was on the odd side of the spectrum. Was it like a muggle not knowing what Rugby was? Probably.. Yeah, he needed to fix that. " Nope.. that is a sport though, right?" If so, share. Maybe he'll end up liking it. Least he now knew the ghosts weren't that much trouble. As long as we get plenty of sleep.. He'll at least tolerate them.
" Cool.. maybe you can show me around the other shops. I've yet to get a wand either." Now blinking at the next question. Hmm. " My parents are fine with it.. It's just, well, it's only been a few weeks so they're still dealing with seeing it a lot more now."

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia Wow. They had a whole lot of animals. Peirs' eyebrows raised up. "That's a lot to take care of." He wondered if they had other people working on the farm with them or if they had to do it all by themselves. Piers nearly forgot about the toad that the other boy had in his pocket. "Oh no, I have a dog named Lucy. Had her since I was four." She was just a puppy when he got her. "Yeah, it's a wicked awesome sport. You fly on broomsticks and throw balls and score and stuff." And that was a very, very vague description. "It's hard to explain. You'll see for yourself at Hogwarts. I want to play on the Slytherin team." Piers beamed excitedly and shifted the weight of all his robes to his other arm. Phew, those were getting heavy.
He started meandering towards the front counter. "I don't have my wand yet either! You can come with if you'd like and I can show you around the other shops, too." His dad would find him eventually, wherever he was. When he got to the front counter of the shop, Piers tossed his giant lump of clothes onto the counter, pulled out his coin sack and pulled out a fair amount of money for all the stuff he got. Good thing his dad had given him extra. Heh. "So you've never seen magic before?" he asked as the shopkeeper bagged up his stuff. When he was all done, Piers grabbed his bags and stepped aside so he could wait for his new friend. And then they could go EXPLORE. |

When he was all done, Piers grabbed his bags and stepped aside so he could wait for his new friend. And then they could go EXPLORE. " I suppose," Javy shrugged, " It's not as bad when the neighbors help my family with it." It was curious to Javy life without having as much animals around. It seemed unheard of for him to even consider it. " That's cool, my Uncle has a German Shepard named Lila around the same age who helps with the sheep."
Scoring balls on broomstick. " Sort of like Rugby and Football, well just in the air.." He was interested in seeing a game of Quidditch now. " It sounds like fun." Javy did notice Piers struggling with some of those robes. " Here, hand me a few so they don't get dirty falling on the floor." Merlin knew the sort of feet and shoes that walked around here before being cleaned.
" Sure, that sounds like a plan. My parents said I can go see them whenever I'm ready." Luckily they didn't say when, exactly. Javy then added his pile of clothes as well on the counter. He glanced at the amount of coins Piers had before quickly looking away. He had a handful, hopefully he would have enough for the wand too. So about that magic seeing.. " A little.. some folks from the Ministry came by to explain it to my folks. We temporarily got to sit on a giant lizard instead of a couch." Javy liked that, even though his mother had a fit over it. Adding on just as his robes were bundled and bagged for him. " But that's about it... You must of got to see lots of it growing up." Now that that was done, they could go explore and maybe explode stuff once they got their wands.

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia Hearing about Javy's farm life was super interesting. Piers would probably keep asking him questions about it for the rest of the day, but for now it was time to get the rest of their school supplies. And Piers would also continue teaching his new friend about Quidditch and ghosts, and other cool things. After they paid for their things, Piers was nearly bouncing on his way out of the shop. "Come on!" he shouted excitedly, dragging Javy out the door. And off they went. * * * * *
Weeks after getting all his school supplies in Diagon Alley, Piers was still in awe with the castle he called school. It was so much more than he ever imagine and WAY cooler than his neighbors had described, even though their descriptions sounded pretty awesome. They had all been there for a couple weeks now and Piers was getting better at not getting lost. But Merlin, there were a lot of staircases and hidden corridors!
Speaking of staircases, Piers was coming down the stairs with some housemates after Transfiguration class and decided to hit the Great Hall for lunch. He split off from his friends and nearly skipped his way into the great hall, veering off to the side to sit at his house table. He shoved half a dinner roll into his mouth and poured himself some pumpkin juice. Chewing the large lump of roll in his mouth, Piers looked around for a minute at the other kids in the room. Hogwarts was AWESOME. |

Hogwarts was AWESOME. This castle was evil at times. In Javy's opinion, that was. Twice he was late to one of his classes, for reasons beyond his control. With Peeves chasing him out of one of the hallways and then for Astronomy when the staircases insisted he go back downstairs. The only good thing was he got to see more of the castle. It was huuuuuge.
After collecting some newspapers from the library, Javy headed straight to the Great Hall to get a head start on his History of Magic homework while eating. He was about to head toward his House table.. but decided otherwise. Some of his classmates weren't ready to forgive his losing house points just yet. Instead, he went to the Slytherin table because hey, he saw his only friend Piers there.
" Hey.." Javy eyed him for a moment with all the food crammed into his mouth. Taking note on how much he could fit in there before sitting down, waiting for him to fully swallow before asking, " How was class?"

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia Piers was rather distracted by the food he was shoving into his face, but he noticed his old friend Javy coming up to him eventually. Yeah, three months totally counted as "old friend". Duh. "Hey Javy," he greeted with a mouth full of potatoes. Once his mouth was empty he grinned at his friend. "Class was boring," he said as he slumped his shoulders. "All we learned how to do was change the color of our ink. Everybody knows how to do that." Just because they were first years didn't mean they didn't know anything. SIGH.
He took a slurp of his pumpkin juice and wiped off his hands on his pants. "How was your class?" Maybe he was learning more than Piers because Javy didn't know as much as the rest of them? |

Javy continued watching as Piers ate, as if he had been denied food for ages. Least he had the decency to smile after swallowing. Though the few strains of potatoes around his teeth in that grin made it difficult for him not to laugh at the sight. " ...Ink? Really?" Javy blinked, mainly on how trivial it seemed. " I wonder when we'll start doing objects and clothes next.." Since he was thinking about experimenting with his own.
His class? Well, to partially answer, he smoothed out the newspaper articles that were crumpled up. " A little interesting.. talked about the life of some famous wizards. Some didn't have magic parents either." So that was definitely cool. Javy broke off though at the sight of Piers wiping his hands on his pants. " ... you know there's a napkin for that." Seriously. Even the former farm boy knew the importance on hygene. Maybe he could also ask a Professor later on the spell for teeth cleaning for Piers' sake.
