Ravenclaw Into Rory Chosen's Life

Into Rory Chosen's Life

ooc: hello all, this is a thread to help me flesh out Rory's character since I've never managed to play him onsite yet. I'm intending on having him go to school if I enjoy playing him next term! This is Rory's post color. There is no specific plot to this thread, just individual RPs with invited members.

Location: School.
Date: Current school timeline.

Location: Gryffindor Tower somewhere (FOR SAMIA)
Pressed up against the huge window, Rory's forehead pressed a little painfully against the glass as his eyes wandered off to the mist below the castle. He usually enjoyed spending the evening outside but since this was no option anymore, he went all the way up to where he could at least look out the window and have a wide vision of the outside. Albeit it was gloomy. He had a knee propped up on the wide windowsill where he spread out a couple of books. Papers and muggle paints were also spread here and there, the tips of his fingers were as usual stained with different colors but violet and blue were the dominant today.

He was not even tired to think about going to his side of the castle, in the Ravenclaw tower. His studies were alright considering he had OWLs this year, he wasn't going to O's everything, but he made sure he studied enough to have lots of E's and maybe a couple of A's. This was not on his mind right now, though. Right now, he was only staring outside with his signature solemn look.

Location: Ravenclaw Dormitory - 5th year (FOR KIM)
Having just taken his night shower, Rory walked into the dorm with the towel in his hand as he rubbed his hair. He rolled his eyes at some of the messy beds of his companions and took a seat at his spotless bed. His painting kit was carefully arranged in the nightstand by his bed, his trunk under the bed had his neatly folded clothes and then the rest were neatly folded and arranged over the bench by the window.

He was undoubtedly tidy and neat breaking all stereotypes about teenager painters that use the colors wildly on their canvas.

Location: Great Hall (FOR MJ)
With DADA's book open to the side, Rory was stuffing a spoonful of scrambled eggs into his mouth. He's been remarkably hungrier the closer OWL's have gotten. He didn't mind eating as long as it wasn't sweets. Ekh.

He looked at the book and flipped the page with his free hand but not before a piece of egg fell down to the neat pages. "Ugh!" He exclaimed and flailed before he used his fingers to throw it off the page. There was a stain. This was a disaster.

For the record, Drewett's corner of the room was definitely one of the cleaner parts of their dormitory. While he didn't think anybody in his group of fifth year Ravenclaw boys was a kleptomaniac, at least he would know that, if any of his belongings got lost, he would hold himself accountable. It was why he liked tidying his little corner, because only he knew where he had placed his things. He'd know where to look when he needed them.

And occasionally, he would try cleaning up his dorm mates' things too. With their permission, of course. Drewett also valued his personal space. But it was only some of their things, at least, because not all of the Ravenclaw fifth year boys were messy, thank you very much. He could live with that. He had, actually, for the past four terms too.

With his backpack slung over his shoulder, Drewett made his way up the Ravenclaw tower, answered the riddle in one try (he secretly loved that feeling of accomplishment), and pushed the door into his dormitory open. He had been to the library again to study for OWLs. The mist was making him twitchy, but he doubted it would be enough to cancel exams at the end of the term. "Hey, Rory," Drewett said with a quick smile of acknowledgment. His green eyes then noticed the messy bed of one of their dorm mates. Instant eye twitch.

Rory was throwing his towel to the bench by the window when Drew walked in. "Hey," he replied and followed Drew's eyes to that messy corner. "I know. I wouldn't mind the mist covering certain unpleasant views inside the castle, am I right?" He said with his trademark deadpan face expression.

"Were you down at the library?" He had his backpack so it must be.

It was hard to pretend the mess didn't bother him, but Drewett's face showed it all. He walked past it, pretending it was no big deal (except it was), and slumped his backpack on his bed. He needed some unpacking to do, both physically with his things and mentally with all the book information he'd absorbed. It had been a long day.

He was aware that Rory's statement wasn't one that meant harm, but there was just something about the mist—yes, the italicized mist—that made him tense a little. "Hope you meant a less t-terrifying one," he said. "In that case, I agree." Because he didn't want to be anywhere near that mist. And their dormitory could use a bit of cleaning too.

"Yeah. Starting t-to get crowded there," the boy replied. To him, that meant students were either just starting on their exam prep...or that they could no longer find a place to beat their boredom. Quite unfortunate for those who wanted to actually study. "How's your studying going so far?"

Uhm. He actually meant that scary mist. The one that almost broke his sister. The one that he hated and was ready to fight if push come to shove. But he wasn't a natural fighter or an aggressive person, so fighting something off was always his last resort. He preferred cunning plans and/or sarcasm. "Uhm, okay." He didn't press on it so Drew wouldn't freak out or call him out on his dark humor.

The crowds always increase at the end of the term, he figured. "Yeah, I decided to just move my studying station somewhere else." He wasn't a loner per se, but he always refrained from being in a crowd unless absolutely necessary. This probably developed early in his childhood when Kodee always stole the spotlight with his activity and loudness, and Jolie was obviously the cute one, even though they all knew she was not all that cute when she had something on her mind. Overall Rory was the quiet one, he didn't have it in him to fight for attention and hence he got lost in a crowd. It was easier being around a couple of people where he could interact comfortably.

So, yeah, he was not a loner but he did not enjoy crowds even if they included books.

Humour. In fact, one would even question if Drewett had a sense of humour. Rory's sense of humour was evidently darker than what the brown-haired Ravenclaw was accustomed to. It wasn't Drewett's type of humour, but he was definitely trying to not make it seem like it bothered him. He let out a forced chuckle. He still wasn't a fan of the mist.

"Oh? Where to?" Drewett asked. He'd understood the need for personal space and, if it weren't for the library's extensive book collection and references, he wouldn't be much of a visitor of the library. "B-But if it's private, I understand." He wasn't going to push for Rory to share if he didn't want to. A private space was a private space. This Ravenclaw genuinely respected that. It was one of things he liked about Rory, too. That he kept to himself. Sometimes Kodee overwhelmed Drewett with his obscenely direct questions, and on the other hand, Jolie was literally one of the few people who could read right through him. He'd had far too many deer-in-the-headlights moments because of her, not that it was a bad thing.

Gunnar had just arrived at the Great Hall for breakfast with a lot of heavy thoughts weighing on his mind. Of course the mist was at the forefront of his mind along with his missing friends, and then of course there were his OWLs that he was sure would not get cancelled no matter how dire the situation would get. But he was sure that they were safe inside the castle. As long as they stayed within the protective walls, Gunnar was sure they'd be fine.

He was so into his head that he hadn't noticed that he walked right past his own table until he was snapped out of his thoughts as he heard the exclamation when he walked by. Oh... was he at the Ravenclaw table? He looked over at the boy, seeing that it was Rory Chosen. Of course, his best friend was the boy's sister, Jolie, and he was thick as thieves with their other triplet, Kodee, but he didn't know Rory as well as the other two. Still, he was familiar with him and wondered what the short, sudden outburst was about.

"Hey... everything okay?" Gunnar looked at him with a hint of concern, though everything seemed to be okay. At least he didn't see anything immediately concerning.

Aaaand this was why Drew was one of his best friends. Best friends. Did he even have those? It was so hard for Rory to define relationships with people, he was such a closed book he barely shared anything significant with people other than his siblings. This probably was not healthy, but it wasn't something of his control. He was raised in a crowded home, he did not find the urgency to open up to people outside his family. He could see this was not the case with Kodee and Jolie, but hey, they were not introverts.

"One of the corners in the Ravenclaw towers. I'll show you tomorrow." He did not mind sharing his studying corner with Drew. "But please don't show anyone else, I'll have to change it then." And kids who are already half-prisoned in the castle had an overload of energy that they'd unleash on his sweet, tidy corner. No, thank you.

"So, where have you been?"

...oops. Rory cleared his throat and offered a very very small smile. "Yeah, yeah. I just dropped Uhm... never mind. It's nothing." He ruined his perfectly neat and clean book was what he was going to say!! But ah well.

Rory also knew Gunnar pretty well. Maybe they never sat down for a chat except in a few of their classes. They were NOT in the same house so he did not have a personal conversation with him before. His name definitely came up in conversations with Jolie from time to time. He knew that he was close with both his siblings (the ones at Hogwarts anyway). But that was the extent of his knowledge.

Rory did not know whether to ask him to join him for breakfast or not, he was curious about Gunnar for sure but asking people to join him to chat was not Rory's natural reflex during conversations.

Drewett didn't really consider a lot of people as his best friend. Save for Hudson, of course, because that had always been established since their first year and since they've been through so much with their owls grandkids. But he and Rory seemed to get each other when it came to things they want kept private to be kept, well, private. It had always been interesting to brown-haired Ravenclaw how the Chosen triplets were all so different. Not that he was surprised about it. No two people were alike. It was just, as he'd first thought, interesting.

Rory didn't have to show him, actually, but Drewett truly appreciated how the other Claw somehow trusted him with his private studying corner. "Perks of being a Ravenclaw, d-don't you think?" He shared. He'd never really gotten to explore all the nearby towers, but Drewett had figured they would one day become great places for peace and quiet. Rory just proved that. "And I-I won't." Drewett always kept his word and he would never want to break anyone's trust. Nobody liked studying where there was noise. He wouldn't want his room mate to suffer through that.

"Besides the library, I assume?" He had just told Rory he came from the library, after all. "Well...uhm...around." He offered a tiny smile. Rory would know of Drewett's usual places nowadays since the mist had taken away the grounds and the kitchens from them. It wasn't a long list between the library, classes, a random quiet classroom, the trophy room, and wherever one Evan Eastwood—his girlfriend—was.

Rory still considered Drew a best friend if one asked, he was basically the closest one to him and the one who knew more about him than anyone else except Kodee and Jolie. He didn't mind if Drew didn't share the same level of friendship, Rory was not a fussy guy when it came to relationships and emotions.

"Oh yeah. There's a lot of perks to being a Ravenclaw. Most prominent one I could think of is not being a Gryffindor." A sarcastic small smile is etched on his mouth as he said that. It was not a secret that Rory clashed with Gryffindors the most out of the three other houses. He got on well with Slytherins and Hufflepuffs in general, but Gryffindors exceptionally pushed his buttons faster.

Anyway. Moving on from the subject to something saucier. Drew's whereabouts before the library - If Rory was a gossip-y kind of guy, he'd push further and perhaps offer some dancing eyebrows but he didn't. He just smiles back at Drew and threw himself back onto the bed. He assumed he was with his girlfriend since he was being generic. "Ah. I see. Nice." He wondered sometimes if having someone you cared about in that way was motivational to study or a distraction? Both maybe even? He would not know. He did not have any adventures in that regard - unlike both his siblings. He was aware of how little experience he has right now compared to most, but he was not bothered by it. It is never one of his aspirations - not like painting and scoring that internship for the summer.

Location: Ravenclaw tower corridor (FOR JULIANNA)

Rory had his canvases sprawled on one of the nooks of the corridors, his paints were also scattered around as well. The canvases were not clean, they all were apparently drafts of something he was working on right now bent over the last one of them. He had paint on his clothes, fingers, and cheek. He also fashioned a pretty focused frown as his brushstroke moved fast.

The people in the portraits above him had all gathered in one portrait having a lively conversation trying to guess what he was painting. He didn't seem to hear them, and he continued on painting.

Anna had just finished her - GASP - homework. A rarity, indeed, but it happened every once in a while, even if her brother wasn't at school anymore to make her do it. Kudos to herself.

Never mind it was very likely to be because she couldn't do much nowadays. No outdoors to fly, no Great Hall to hang out in, no lower floors to look around. Her only option was to stay with other Gryffindors - and now Slytherins - in their Common Room or... stroll around other towers.

Ravenclaw didn't sound too boring right about now. It was different enough to get Anna's interest, and so she was there. Hey, hi, hello. Oh, a kid was out too, and he looked busy. Goodie, goodie! "Hey!" She greeted him, her voice perhaps sounding a bit louder than she intended or had it been intentional? Heh. "Whatchu painting?" She asked straight away, mimicking those above their heads and stretching up over him to try and have a better look at whatever it was eagle boy over there was doing.

Ravenclaw didn't sound too boring right about now. It was different enough to get Anna's interest, and so she was there. Hey, hi, hello. Oh, a kid was out too, and he looked busy. Goodie, goodie! A boy??? Excuse you but Rory was a tall sixteen years old. Ahem. If he heard someone call him boy, that would not sit well with his ego. He wouldn't utter a word, but he was good at delivering his contempt without words or violence. His dry humor was the way he did it.

Anyway, he did not hear that. What he heard was just another voice asking him what he was painting, it melted with the other voices at first but after a few seconds, Rory recognized that the voice was for a girl - unlike the crowd in the portrait. He paused and raised his head to find an actual girl standing over his head. He sat upright, trying to remember if he knew her from somewhere. "Uhm. Hello." He wiped a hand across his forehead looking back down at his painting. It was unintelligible still, just color swirls.

"I don't know yet..." He was basically unloading his frustration on canvas. Which was what one of the portrait men said aloud, but not in a flattering way. Rory shot a look at the portrait.

"What are you doing in this random part of the castle?"

"I don't know yet..." He was basically unloading his frustration on canvas. Which was what one of the portrait men said aloud, but not in a flattering way. Rory shot a look at the portrait.

"What are you doing in this random part of the castle?"

Anna stood there, looking down at him and his canvas covered in paint. She smiled when he looked up and said hello. Good, she liked it when she stumbled across people who weren't rude enough to not greet her back - and that had happened many a-times, so it was nice when it didn't. It was even better when the person speaking to you was covered in paint and didn't seem to care.

It was an interesting sight, if you asked her. The canvases covered in paint scattered all over the floor and even the stone floor itself didn't seem able to stay paint-free. Anna chuckled but chose not to say anything for now. He was probably very aware of what he was doing and how much paint was getting everywhere, especially as his robes and hands weren't exactly that clean either.

The Gryffindor Prefect nodded her head when he said he didn't know what the crazy paint strokes meant yet. As soon as one of the portraits voiced their opinion, she looked up to see who was talking. Unloading his frustration on canvas? Sounded like something one of her cousins would do.

Anna didn't blame the Ravenclaw, though. Frustration had been a common feeling amongst all of the student body trapped in the Castle for so many months now. It was surprising no one had lost it completely yet - not that she knew of, at least. "That's okay." She told the man made of paint on the portrait. "It's better than hexing people." She added looking down to give the Ravenclaw boy a reassuring nod. It made her life easier than having to deal with hooligans that couldn't control their frustrations within the upper floors of the Castle. Doing some crazy paint masterpiece was much better than many, many things she had to deal with before.

What was she doing in that random part of the Castle? "I suppose... trying not to hex anyone." She chuckled. So basically the same as him, in a way, minus the paint.

Hold on. Was that... "Are you Kodee's brother?" She asked. His age, his house, the paint. She was sure she had seen them together before. Or... had she? What was his name again? Anna wasn't the best with names, but she was sure she had seen his face before.

Or was she just making that up? Sigh, who knew anymore. Maybe she was losing it after all.

The Gryffindor Prefect. That was who she was and where he knew her from. She just looked a little different from this angel... in this lighting. Seein someone you're not familiar with in a dimmer light was always a whole new experience - their features appeared more prominent changing the overall image you have of them. This was Rory's observation right now.

Hexing? He smiled a little and gestured at the windowsill by the corner where he huddled with his paints. "You're welcome to join if that distracts you from hexing." He continued on with her joke. Or was it really a joke? Who knew about those Gryffindors. He knew for a fact that Kodee had enough energy and ludicrousy in his head to go about hexing people who bother him, and maybe their Prefect wasn't so saint either.

Aaaaaand here was the name. "Yes. I'm Rory." He almost added 'the mature one' but he wouldn't call his brother out to someone he had just stumbled upon - or stumbled upon him. "You know Kodee." He stated expecting her to go on.

Drewett, honestly, would be really flattered and honoured. Those levels of friendship were unspoken things, though, he liked to believe. He wasn't the fussy type either, but it was for certain that he appreciated the casualness he could have around Rory at times.

The brown-haired boy wasn't the humourous type, but Drewett definitely understood what Rory meant by that. He personally had nothing against Gryffindors—half a lie because he still did not like the idea of that Gryffindor kid, whom Dia was apparently crushing on, treating his unbiological sister with little respect—but Rory was different. Drewett could tolerate the Gryffindor type of loudness, or their recklessness, or their 'Gryffindor-ness' in general. His friend, here, just...well, couldn't. Not as much as Drewett could, at least. "Lucky you, we d-didn't get bunked with them," he said, letting out a chuckle. You know what that would have been? A disaster.

On second thought, having Alessandro and Hudson in one tower was a bit of a disaster too. But that wasn't the point.

Nice. Drewett tried to act oh so casually there as he replaced his other books back into his trunk, but the tinge of red on the tips of his ears were likely giving him away. "Your studying corner will be off-limits, d-don't worry," he replied. Just to assure Rory of Drewett's respect for his privacy. If anything, it was quite the motivation for him to study OWLs. Drewett wasn't the easily distracted kind, but sometimes nice distractions were good to keep his head from exploding from information overload. Even a Ravenclaw could tell when they've had enough. "And you?" He threw the question back at Rory.

Anna was utterly oblivious to the Ravenclaw's observations especially as she 1- was still finding it a bit amusing how the portraits above them were so opinionated on the kid's work of art and 2- she was just not observant anyway.

She did look over at the windowsill when he gestured towards it. "That's exactly what I need." The girl smiled back and moved to have a better look at what he had there. She wasn't as into visual arts as she was into other things such as music and more importantly, Quidditch, but she wasn't against them either. If someone was good at it, they could create some of the most beautiful things and Anna appreciated that. "Do you do this often?" She asked curiously as she looked around at all of his paint. He seemed like he knew what he was doing, but she couldn't remember if she had ever seen him out there like he was now. Then again, she never really had many reasons to walk through that corridor.

He was Rory. Anna nodded. So there were... Kodee, Faith... what was the other girl's name again? And Rory. Alright, she could work with that. The Gryffindor nodded again as she picked up one of his paints to have a better look at. "I do, and Faith. She was in my team." As in, the team she chose when she used to be the Captain. Good days. Except for the whole Zoryn thing. Those were more of a pain than anything, but still. Good days! "Kodee's a good egg." She continued, putting the paint down and turning to smile at... Rory. See, she remembered the name, boom! Anna got along pretty well with Kodee even though the kid's best friend was Anna's self proclaimed enemy - pffffhaha, Merlin. She was about to add to her comment saying Kodee and herself had spent a good amount of time wasting time in their Common Room instead of doing homework, when she thought a bit better about it. This boy was a Ravenclaw, and if he was anything like her own brother - who wasn't even a Ravenclaw but was a big fat nerd - he would bother Kodee for Merlin knows how long regarding homework. "We hang out in the Common Room sometimes." There, that was better. Maybe she can go into more details once she figures out if Rory is the type of Ravenclaw that would be bothered by these things or not. Chuckle.

Imagine bunking with Gryffindors - no, imagine bunking with Kodee again. Uh, no thank you. He had his share of rough wake-up calls, messiness, and untimely wrestling. Now, he convinced his parents to give him the attic so he can have his small haven, especially when he needed to paint or listen to music. So, he could not go back to bunking with gryffies. "Oh yeah. Kodee has kind of given me allergies against bunking with Gryffindors." His reply was with a small chuckle. His eyes were fixed upwards on the ceiling, he grabbed his stress ball and started throwing it.

Look at Drew blushing his answer away. Rory couldn't help but feel a little proud over getting to his friend with just one word. He was getting better at it! "Nice red ears, Drew." he teased. "For me? I dunno." He kept throwing his ball, one leg propped up while the other stretched out on the bed. His mind was racing unlike his casual demeanor. He really did not know.

Rory had taken a small break from the painting when Anna joined him officially. His concentration always faltered upon people joining him, but it wasn't always a bad thing. sometimes he was stuck and more interaction with the environment around him prompted him to unstuck - in better words, more interaction meant more inspiration. "The painting? Yeah. Sitting in a corridor and making a mess? Not really." The portraits over his head were still chattering - analyzing his work, no, no, analyzing his drafts which annoyed him a little. "Do you do this often?" He smiled, meaning the wandering.

Faith and Kodee, sure. He nodded, he missed having Faith in school with them. She was a true character around here. "Yeah." He replied absently at her answers, looking back down at his painting and starting with some strokes again. He started mixing colors, trying to get to the shade he had in his head. "Everyone must know Kodee. He's hard to miss." he joked, finally making a few lines on the canvas.

Anna listened to Rory's explanation as she looked through his paints. She chuckled when he mentioned the mess in the corridor and how he didn't normally do that. "I thought I had never seen you out here like that." She smiled. "Do you do mainly abstract or...?" And if she did that often? "No. Well, yeah. Not the painting, but I do walk around here often, if that's what you mean. I have to go on patrols and all that..." boring prefect duty "...stuff. So I do walk around here... more often than not, I guess." That corridor being close to where several students used to be and all that.

The Gryffindor looked over at where he started painting again to see what he was doing. To be honest, she probably liked watching people paint more than she enjoyed painting herself. So that was why she simply stood there for now, holding one or two of his paints and moving a bit closer to have a better look at his work in progress. Laughing at his last comment about Kodee, she couldn't help but nod. "Yep, that's true. He's never given me that much trouble, though." Anna added thoughtfully. Little did she know about Kodee and Beau's little plots back in the day that just never came into fruition - some of them having her as the target. Kodee was a good one in her books and until proven otherwise, he was likely to stay there.

Drewett could honestly only imagine. He had never been to the Gryffindor common room before, only ever been outside to perhaps wait for any of his lion friends. Obviously, they didn't have access to it without a password, but he figured there were probably people there sliding down the bannisters or maybe even participating in mattress slides. Things he would never take part in. "Well, d-don't let him hear you say that," Drewett smiled a little, his green eyes following Rory's stress ball up in the air. If there was anything he learned about Kodee, it was that his fists worked almost involuntarily in certain situations. He doubted the Gryffindor would hurt his brother, though.

.....Well, Drewett had quietly hoped Rory wouldn't have noticed. He pretended to ruffle his hair to hide how pink his ears were slowly turning. "Thanks, I guess." Welp. Nothing going on here, Rory. Ahem. "Well, aside from studying, y'know?" He asked, while arranging the parchments of notes on runecasting he took earlier. He didn't doubt that Rory enjoyed studying, but he was sure his roomie didn't spend all the time studying. Right?
