This is an RP about the Marauders' first year at Hogwarts. I'm not sure where this is going to go; it's up to the various interpretations of the characters by the RPers involved. Unfortunately, all characters have been assigned.

Severus served himself a modest serving of steak and kidney pie. As he took a small forkful and carefully placed it in his mouth, he looked across the table at Bellatrix. "Congratulations. I see you've managed to get rid of that awful cousin of yours," he sneered.

Bella picked primly at a roll. "I think he managed that all on his own. I certainly wouldn't want to be in his shoes when his mother finds out." Bella made a cringing face and laughed cruelly. "She always had such high hopes that Siri wouldn't disgrace the family, and here he is... a Gryffindor." She said the word as if it tasted foul. "My mother almost threw a fit when Andromeda, my sister, was sorted into Gryffindor, but she had always known Andi was a bit off."

Remus helped himself to a full plate of food. This was the time of the month when he was most hungry, the days leading up to his transformation. He wondered briefly if that was because his body knew it needed more energy for that time... a time when he wouldn't eat anything at all, because all his wolf craved was flesh.

Remus studied the quivering boy named Peter and wondered at his being sorted into Gryffindor. He seemed even less likely to belong there then Remus himself. "Nice to meet you too," Remus directed the response at Peter. "Are you Muggle-born or from a wizarding family?"

Snape turned his head and sneered over at the Gryffindor table before looking back at Bellatrix. "Yes, I'm sure the blacks will be quite disappointed that their family name has been corrupted once more," he smirked.

"Wizarding family," Peter said, smiling, happy that someone was speaking to him. "Not quite purebloods, though. Not too many of them left now, are there?" he laughed, nervously.

*Sirius became really interested in his food at the mention of purebloods. He was going to be in so much trouble when his parents found out that he, first off, been sorted into Gryffindor, like some common muggle-born,and then even worse that he had already befriended a couple of non-purebloods as well. He could just hear his mother screaching at him now. He glanced over at his family's pride and joy, Bella. If being like her is what got you into the family will, then Sirius would just write himself out. Sure Sirius was a little over-the-top, sure he was a trouble maker, sure he liked picking on people; but his heart was in the right place, whereas Sirius wasn't even sure if Bella had a heart. He managed to get Severus's eye. Sirius waved over at him as if they were old pals, knowing it would make old Greasy mad.*

Bella looked at Severus coldly. "There is nothing wrong with my family name, Severus. A weak branch in the family tree is pruned, not left to affect the rest of the tree. I'll thank you not to comment on my family, when nobody here even knows who yours is."

Remus shrugged. "I guess it depends on your definition of pureblood. There aren't a lot of old, old families left with no outside blood. I think the whole pureblood thing is a little silly," he confided to Peter. "Some commonly held Wizarding beliefs are a little old-fashioned." He wasn't really speaking about pureblooded bias anymore, but no one else had to know that.

Severus sneered at Bellatrix and then, looked away. So what if no one knew about his family? At least he could say that none in his family had ever needed to be "pruned." He caught Sirius' eye and the fool waved at him. Snape's sneer deepened as he turned back to the lesser of the two evil Blacks. "I don't see why you're so proud, even with that," he said pointing. "In your family; whether it is pruned or not. We my not be wealthy and famous, but no Snape has ever disgraced their pureblood status."

"Yeah, my mother always said that blood isn't everything, it's what you do that matters.' Or something like that," he mumbled and started to eat again as he noticed everyone looking at him.

Bella rolled her eyes. "How very boring for you. Let me give you a little advice, since you seem so intent on insulting me. Save your venom for those who deserve it," she gestured to the Gryffindor table, "and don't alienate those who could be your allies."

People began to move to the exits, and Bella stood to follow Lucius Malfoy, who was gathering the first years with impatience. He ruffled her hair, and she scowled at him.

*Sirius was saved by the end of dinner. He had remained remarkably quiet throughout the whole thing. He just wasn't sure yet of his views on the whole Pure-Blood thing. He knew what he had been taught...but..he just didn't know now.

He got up and motioned for Remus and James, and even the new kid, Peter to follow him. Andromeda was calling all the first years to her. Sirius looked at Andromeda as hope. She wasn't exactly the family favorite, but they hadn't completely shafted her. He caught her eye and she gave him a wink, then pulled him to the front of the line. She whispered in his ear for him to stand up front..then he can pick the best bed. Sirius smiled up at her then followed her up to the Gryffindor Tower. Sirius's new home.*

Severus scowled at Bellatrix's back as she made her way over to the prefect who was leading the first year Slytherins away. He recognized him as Lucius Malfoy and also made his way over to him as well. Keeping to the back of the crowd he followed the older boy with the rest of his class to the Slytherin Common Room, in the dungeons of the school. He walked into the boy's dormitory and found his things had already been placed beside a black-curtained bed in a dark corner, almost as if someone had known where he would have preferred to sleep.

Peter nearly squealed as Sirius ushered him into the group. He liked Sirius. He was one of the tallest boys in the class and had come close to winning a fight with one of the boys who had been sorted into Slytherin. Of course, Peter couldn't blame him for losing to the Slytherin boy, as everyone knew Slytherins didn't fight fair.

Remus climbed the stairs beside James, right behind Sirius. He watched in slight awe as the staircases moved, the pictures talked back, and a tall ghost with a wobbly sort-of head floated past. James looked every bit as amazed as he did, so Remus didn't feel nearly so bad.

Sirius's cousin, Andromeda, led the line to a portrait of a wide lady dressed in pink. "The password is Doxy Dung." She shrugged apologetically as the portrait swung out. "Our Head Boy is a bit mad sometimes," she said by way of explanation. Remus stifled a laugh, thinking that he would probably like Sirius's cousin quite a lot.

The boys tromped up the staircase they were directed to and several of them made a beeline for beds near the windows. From the door, Remus could see a low waxing half-moon sitting in the clear sky. He took a bed as far from the windows as he could.

*Sirius, the first one in the dorm of course, had went and picked the prime bed out, closest to the window. He had James on one side and Peter on the other. He really wanted to be close to Remus, but for some reason, Remus had picked out the bed away from him. Maybe Sirius had frightened him on the train here. Sirius maybe had gone a little tiny bit too far. He'd make it up with him later. Sirius took a flying leap, and jumped down on his bed. He crossed his legs and put his hands behind his head, letting a big sigh. He knew he'd have to write home soon enough..and wasn't looking forward to it...*

James worked his way up the stairs with the others, they were in awe of a portrait of a Fat Lady guarding the entrance to the Gryffindor common room, once inside, they all ran up towards the boys dorm and picked out their beds, each was an old fashioned one with four tall posts holding up curtains they could draw to block out the daylight or moon light....

*Sirius decided to not prolong the inevitable any longer, and found some parchment and wrote home.

Dear Family,

I made it here fine. Having fun. I got sorted into Gryffindor with Andromeda. Talk to you soon.

He sealed it up, and called his large barn owl to him, Meria. He strapped it to her leg and let her out of the window. He knew he wasn't exactly going to get a happy reply back, or if he was even to get one back at all.

But, to lighten his own heart, he decided to have a bit of fun with his three new friends. *

"So guys...which one of us do you think will make into the Dark Forest first? I'm putting my money on myself..but anyone dare to bet against me? " He said with a very wide grin as he looked out onto the dark grounds and the all-too-curious forest.

James looked ove at Sirius at his challenge, then back at the forest outside their window, "I'm game, I mean, how bad could it be?" James tried to sound cocky but it didn't fit him at such a young age, he just didn't want to sound too weak in front of the boy who'd already started a fight, before even arriving to school

*Sirius laughed. James was alright. He was going to make a perfect partner in crime, and with a side of Remus's smarts they were going to be an unstoppable trio..and a few weeks, or maybe even years, Peter would be alright. He had definant potential. *

"Well guys...let's hit the sack. I've had a very adventuresome first day..and plan to top it tomorrow, so I need rest. See you in the morning he said poking his head out of his curtains. He gave them one last wink and closed the curtains.

Severus awoke early the next morning and headed down to the Great Hall for breakfast. He had slept well last night and felt quite at home in the dungeons where the Slytherins made their home. As he sat down and began to serve himself some eggs and toast for breakfast, he surveyed the nearly empty hall. Without the overwhelming presence of the other students, Severus actually found he liked the hall with its enchanted ceiling, four long house tables, and fine decorations

James was the first up the next morning, he slept well, but he thought he heard some stirring from Remus' bed during the night. He ran over to the other four-posters ad grabbed open the curtains, "come on sleepy heads, get up, let's go down and get breakfast"

"What the..?" Sirius moaned as light flooded in on him. He squinted up and realized where he was..he had slept so peacefully. He smiled sleepily up at James and rolled out of bed, hair sticking up everywhere. "Are you always up this early?" Sirius asked as he stood and stretched. He squinted over towards Remus...who was looking worse than Sirius was sure he looked himself, then over to Peter, who was still snoring. Sirius yawned again, then went and jerked the covers off of Peter. THen went and got dressed for Breakfast*

Peter grabbed for the covers as he felt them being pulled away, but he didn't make it in time. It was either he get up to get the blanket and fall back asleep or just get up. Seeing that the others were all up, he decided to get dressed and try and tag along with them to breakfast.

The full moon was approaching, and Remus had slept a restless night. He usually slept best when the moon was waning and lost more and more sleep as it waxed full. He blinked tiredly at Sirius and James, who were a little too perky, and then at Peter, who's snoring had not helped Remus's insomnia. Finally, he rolled out of bed and got dressed, not bothering to note the tired strain on his face in the mirror. It clucked at him a bit, but he ignored it.

The boys trooped quietly down the stairs, running into several first year girls at the bottom. The students all headed out together, hoping their sheer number would be enough to help them navigate back to the Great Hall.

*Sirius let out another huge yawn as they all entered the Great Hall for their very first breakfast at Hogwarts. James and Sirius sat across from Peter and Remus..and the girls were close by too. Sirius and the gang dove head first into the food.

Professor McGonnagal swept past handing out schedules for the first year Gryffindors. Sirius reached up and took his schedule from McGonnagal's hand then examined it. He didn't really care about the classes..he was looking for Flying Lessons..he skimmed it...and....yes, Friday with the Slytherins. *

Snape sneered when the group of Gryffndors, with Sirius leading the pack, came sauntering into the Great Hall. He was distracted, however, when hard-looking wizard handed him a course schedule. First up today was potions with the Gryffindors. He was glad when he started skimming down the list to see that they didn't have any other classes with them. Until he reached the bottom and saw that they would have having flying lessons with the Gryffindors. Snape groaned, inwardly and got up to fetch the books and supplies he'd need for his first class... potions.

Remus accepted the schedule from the young witch who had helped with the sorting last night. The schedule showed they had Potions first, and Remus smiled. He had been working with an amateur Potions set since he was small. His father had always joked that he was looking for the cure to lycanthropy, which was probably partly true. He would do alright in that class.

"We need to get our books," he suggested to the other boys. "We have Potions first thing. Its in the dungeon, and I"m not certain I could find my way back to the Tower in a hurry."

James heard Sirius exclaim something about Friday, he glanced down his schedule to see that Flying Lessons were then, "great, I was hoping they'd be soon, I wonder how quickly they'll let us fly around.." it was only after this statement, that James noticed the red-head come in to the Great Hall, he couldn't keep from watching her
