This is an RP about the Marauders' first year at Hogwarts. I'm not sure where this is going to go; it's up to the various interpretations of the characters by the RPers involved. Unfortunately, all characters have been assigned.

Severus scowled. He was not going to take orders. "He's too heavy," he said, having had first-hand knowledge of just how heavy the boy was when he was pinned underneath him not too long ago. "I think it would be better for you to give me my wand back, I float him out of here, close the door, and you do whatever you want with him," he said, crossing his arms and smirking at him.

Remus shook his head. "Won't work. How do I know you won't hex me as soon as I hand over your wand? No, no... You, what's your name?" He turned his attention to the girl. "Belle? You do it. Take out your wand. SLOWLY. The spell is Wingardium Leviosa. Move Sirius into the hall."

Bella clenched her fist around the wand tucked safely in her robes. The boy was treating her as if she were stupid, PLUS he was giving her orders. This was totally unacceptable. She glanced at Severus to see what he said. One way or another, he'd let her know what course of action he was following. And then she'd follow as well.

Severus sighed. "If you're so smart, why don't you float him out of here then?" he smirked. "Here's how this will go. You levitate this monstrosity, keeping your eyes on us the whole time. As soon as he's in the hallway and you two are in the hall, you toss me my wand and shut the door. No one has to turn their backs on anyone else, and Bella won't have to hex you."

Remus gave Bella a long look, and she inwardly seethed. He didn't think she could do it! He didn't think she could hex him. Maybe she didn't have the sheer know-how that Severus had, but she could hex him into a seven-day stay at St. Mungo's. Her grip tightened around the wand again, and she glanced at Snape. But he shook his head slightly, and she was disappointed.

Remus considered his options and nodded briskly at Severus. He backed up until he stood out of the compartment and in the hallway, then gently levitated Sirius out the door. "Finite Incantatem!" Remus called, and Sirius began moving groggily. Remus flipped Severus's wand to him and grinned cheekily before slamming the door. "Let's go," he tugged on the still sitting Sirius, half dragging him down the hall and thrusting him back into the compartment they had been in earlier.

*Sirius was drug down the hall by Remus. Sirius knew there was a reason he liked him so much already and Remus was proving Sirius right. Sirius wasn't really all that upset about being hexed again by Snape, he knew he deserved it, and also knew that it would be just as fun getting ole Greasy back for it again. And not to mention Bells..she'd get what was coming to her one of these days. Sirius was still a bit disorientated upon arriving back to his car, but he did notice that everyone was already dressed in their robes, and the train was really starting to slow. Sirius, with some help from Remus, sat his seat again. He looked over to Remus and gave him a huge grin. *

"Thanks Remus....I'll have to owe you one. You know..we just have to end up in the same house together..you and I...forget about doing my homework..I need you around to bail me out when I go just a tad bit too far." Sirius laughed and gave Remus a good slap on the back.

Peter spent the entire ride to Hogsmeade Station looking out the wiindow. There were several other people in the compartment with him, but he didn't really bother to notice them and they didn't really bother to notice him, either. In the middle of the ride a fight had broken out and he had followed with everyone else to see what was going on. He hadn't managed to catch any of the action, but he did see two boys walking another one down the hallway afterward. As the station neared, Peter got up and slipped on his robes before following the sound of a voice bellowing, "First Years!!"

He slipped into a boat with three other first year students....

Maeve was just beginning to get into a conversation with the other girl, Lily, when drama erupted down the hall. Being the inquisitive person that she was, she rushed down, only to find that the fight had broken up. She always seemed to miss the good stuff. Lily had followed her, and the two of them took the opportunity to get some snacks and then returned to their compartment, gossiping about the fight as they went.

Maeve saw a group of boys talking as they returned. Two of them she recognized, as Remus and Sirius, and the other, with messy black hair, was unknown to her. As she settled in again with Lily, the train began to slow down. She wondered whether it would be time to get off the bus soon, or if they were just taking a break.

James was frustrated, he hadn't been able to find the little red headed girl, he thought he saw her briefly with another girl around the time of the brawl but he lost them in the frey, and now the train had come to a stop and he followed the crowd, a huge man was yelling for the first years to get into boats, four to a boat, so James quickly looked for Sirius and Remus but after not seeing them, got in with some other students who had already changed in to their robes as well, none of them drew Jame's attention, not even a small portly boy sitting near the center of the boat, looking as if a wave might topple them all overboard....

As the trian stopped Lily noticed that all the students were putting on their robes, so as the boys stepped out Lily and Mauve changed into their school robes. Looking at Mauve, "I think we should all get going." She said excitedly as they walked out the train seeing a big man Lily gaped at his height and just followed the others in a boat. Lily got into a boat with Mauve, Sirus and Remus. All along the way Lily stood amazed as the gigantic castle came into view from the horizon."Look!" Lily said as she pointed to the others.

Remus had been determined to maintain a low profile, but things just weren't turning out that way. In fact, it seemed that the only friend he had made so far, Sirius, was the type to cause constant attention. Plus, he'd just basically had a duel with another student. He wasn't even to Hogwarts yet!

Remus was lost in his own thoughts when he heard Lily's shout. He looked up and was astonished at the sight of the large castle. Whatever his parents had told him had NOT prepared him for this. His mouth hung open. "That's a bloody castle!" he exclaimed.

*Sirius walked cooly out to the boats with Remus and the girls. He spotted Snape and Bella nearby and wanted to go and jump in their boat with them, possibly throw Snape overboard and feed Bella to the Giant Squid Andromeda had told him about. But with another look at Remus..he decided to stick with him. There would be plenty of time to torture Greasy and Bells later.*

Severus and Bellatrix got into a boat with two other boys. Avery and Rosier weren't too bad. They aspired to be in Slytherin, which bumped them up a notch in Snape's estimation, even if they were a bit louder than he liked. Snape's eyes widened as he beheld the castle before him. But, he quickly adjusted his expression to hide his emotions, just like his father taught him.

They arrived at the other side of the lake and walked up the stones steps to enter the enormous, enchanted, castle which would be their home for the next seven years. Severus stood amongst the anxious students waiting to be sorted and smirked at their disquietude.

James again moved to the front of the crowd as he was accustomed to doing, he watch with the other first year students in anticipation as Professor MacGonagal brought out a tri-legged stool and placed upon it an old torn witche's hat that just sat there for a moment. Then...to Jame's surprise and the other students the brim of the hat began to stirr and the entire hat seem to animate, he gasped with the other as the the spoke to them

"Oh, you may not think I’m pretty,
But don’t judge on what you see,
I’ll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.

I’m filthy and I’m old as dirt,
But looks should not be judged,
If brim is torn and edges worn
And surface has been smudged.

My purpose though has reason,
And no other qualified,
To sort you in your proper house,
Sure other hats have tried.

But none knows what I see in you,
Or where everyone here goes,
Even if you think you have a thought
I’m the only one who knows.

In Hufflepuff, the loyal lot,
Will make their beds each night,
In Ravenclaw, it’s brains and wit,
For this they’ll set their sight.

In Slytherin, the cunning go,
To learn the Arts so dark,
And Gryffindors are brave and true,
Their legends’ve left their mark.

James and the other students let out a roar of approval at hearing the Hat's song

Bella listened in absolute boredom as the hat sang its song. She was nervous, and she felt a bit light-headed. It wasn't that she was afraid she'd end up in one of the lesser houses, but more that every eye in the place was on her... or so it felt. She was heady with that feeling.

The young Professor who had greeted them at the door, McGonagal, called out, "Bellatrix Black!" Bella walked to the stool with her head held high and her chin out. The hat barely touched her dark head before it sang out, "Slytherin." The cheers came from a table decked in green, and Bella was pleased to see her sister Narcissa, draped on that Malfoy git, smiling broadly. She stole a glance at Andromeda, but Andy had her carefully bored look in place. Bella strolled to an empty seat and watched the proceedings.

Remus watched with heightening curiosity as the hat sang its song. FINALLY, he had some information about the houses everyone talked about, and he tried to piece that information together with what Sirius and Lily had told him on the train. He supposed he'd be in Ravenclaw, although he wanted to be in the same house as Sirius if at all possible.

*Sirius was totally impressed with Hogwarts. It was massive and huge, and there was no way the people in charge could keep an eye on him at all times. This was going to be more fun than he could of imagined. The Sorting Hat sang it's brilliant song and Sirius couldn't help but grin, but his stomach seemed to be doing somersaults with the sorting ceremony approaching. This was it. This one decision that the Hat would make, basically would mold his future. He wanted so badly to be with Remus and James, but he knew that he would probably go in Slytherin like most of his other family members. He watched Bells get sorted, and to no one's surprise she went straight to Slytherin. "Sirius Black" McGonnagal called out next. Sirius was wishing his last name was further on down the alaphabet, but at least he wouldn't have to put the Sorting Hat on after ole Greasy. Sirius stepped up, looking confident, but not feeling that way at all. She placed it on his head, and the Sorting began chattering away in his ear...something about not being like the rest of them...and not afraid...very brave....GRYFFINDOR! The hat screamed out. Sirius, a little bit shocked, yet very relieved, he made his way over to his new family and took a seat at the end of the table. He caught Remus's eye and gave him wink. *

Since entering the castle Lily couldn't keep her eyes closed nor her mouth for that matter. When she heard the hat sing its song she felt a sort of glee in her as she clapped along with everyone else. Seeing other students be sorted and then that friendly Sirus boy go into Gryffindor Lily heard her name being called, "Lily Evans!" She slowly walked up to the stool and as soon as she sat down she felt the hat go on her. "Hmm..." The hat said as he stood on top of her head, "New to the world and everything in it...I see a smart one but yet....GRYFFINDOR!" The hat yelled as she got up with a smile on her face and made her way beside Sirus who seemed to be smiling more. The Gryffindor table applauded for her and began greeting her as soon as she arrived. Lily looked over at Maeve and could only hope she would be in Gryffindor to, they did hit it off as friends afterall.

Maeve was just as impressed as the others in her group when they walked through the doors of Hogwarts. The place was amazing, and much larger than anywhere else she had been. Before she had had much time to drink in their surroundings, she was pushed in a line with the other first-years down the Great Hall. A large hat was produced and began to sing a spectacular song. Maeve knew she was in for an extraordinary year; she was singing things she had never seen before. After all, she didn't know too much about magic yet.

Maeve waited patiently through the other sortings and suddenly heard her name being called out by the young female teacher beside the hat. Cautiously, she took a seat on the small stool and waited with shut eyes for the hat to be placed on her head. When it was, there was a moment's pause.

"You are smart, very smart indeed," it said in a low voice. "But Ravenclaw is not for you. You're not a hard enough worker." Maeve grimaced slightly, as the hat paused and thought. "Gryffindor!" the hat shouted, and whispered then to her, "You'll fit in there."

Maeve leapt to her feet and joined Lily again, completely beside herself with excitement.

Remus had watched the proceedings with interest, but he was still surprised when his name was called. He mounted the stairs with some fear, but he didn't know enough about the houses to worry that he'd end up in the wrong one. All he knew was that he WANTED to be in Sirius's house and NOT in the house with those two vicious students from the train. One of them, Sirius's cousin, had already been sorted into Slytherin, so he didn't want to go there.

The hat slid over his eyes, and Remus blinked at the dark interior. "Hmmm..." he was surprised at the voice in his head. "Clever, hard-working... even a desire to prove yourself as more than your.... yes, yes. I see. Hmmm... I know where you'll go. You haven't seen all you can be, but you'll blossom best in... GRYFFINDOR."

Remus was blinded as the hat was removed and he was pushed in the general direction of the table. Somehow, he was in a seat by Sirius, being clapped on the back by several large boys. Maeve grinned and waved from across the table.

Peter huddled at the back of the line, his nervous eyes darting around. He really didn't want to walk up and sit on that stool in front of everyone. But, it was inevitable and he soon heard the witch call his name. He slowly weaved his way up and sat on the stool. The hat was placed on his head and it seemed like ages before anything happened. The hat muttered in his ear for a while, like it was arguing with itself. Maybe they made a mistake? I'm not supposed to be here? But, just as he had given up and figured he'd be sent back home, the hat called out, in a relatively unexcited voice, "Gryffindor."

"Potter, James," was the name called next and James walked up to the seat vacated by the portly boy he'd seen on the train, he sat facing the four long tables that each of the Houses' students were sitting at, "no questions here, bravery, intelligence, and an apptitude for learning......GRYFFINDOR!" shouted the hat and as the Professor raised it off his head, he caught sight of the red-head he had been looking for. He started in her direction since she was also in he same house as he but before he could get there he felt a tug on his robes and he looked over to see the kid who was fighting the greasey boy....."oh hey Sirius"

Severus stood amongst the other students, waiting for his name to be called. The crowd had thinned considerably as the first years were sorted and made their ways to their new house tables. Severus wasn't nervous at all, he knew where he'd be sorted. There was no conceivable way he'd be sorted into any other house with the knowledge he already possessed of the Dark Arts. So, it was with a self-assured step that he walked up to the stool as his name was called, "Snape, Severus."

He sat upon the stool and the sorting hat was placed on his head. It covered his eyes and the hat spoke to him. "A sharp mind, quick wit, and a thirst for knowledge," it muttered. "Yet, I also see.... Hmmmm.. interesting..."

Severus shifted in the chair. He hadn't htouhg it would take this long for the hat to sort him into Slytherin. Oh dear! It wasn't thinking of putting him in Gryffindor, was it? But, no sooner had the thought crossed Severus' mind then the hat shouted out, "SLYTHERIN!"

He breathed a sigh of relief as the hat was pulled from his head. The table bedecked with green and silver cheered and Severus slowly and calmly made his way over to the table and sat down with a smirk upon his pale face.

*Sirius had taken a seat by himself, but was soon surrounded by the two girls he met from the train, some porky looking kid, and to his much excitement, Remus and James. This was going to be great...partners in mischief. He watched Severus get sorted off into the Slytherin lot, no big surprise there. Sirius couldn't help but grin, his lip was still a little swollen, and his face actually had some color in it, thanks to Sirius.

The headmaster stood for attention, as the Sorting Ceremony came to an end. He gave them the low down about the school rules..no forest, no magic in the halls, yada yada to Sirius. That forest looked way too interesting to pass up. Then the Headmaster raised his hands, and the tables filled with food. This brought a huge smile to Sirius's face. He looked around to all his new friends.*

"Not too shabby? Huh guys?" And Sirius began digging in.

James was just taking it all in, he hadn't even noticed that the greasey kid was put into Slytherin, he did notice however, the Headmaster, James was very impressed with how easily he controlled the room, and with one wave of his hand the tables were filled with enugh food to feed an army....James looked briefly down towards the red-head who was busy chatting with some girl near her, and then followed Sirius's lead in digging in to the meal.

*Sirius, noticing the chubbier kid again, turned to him. He had a chicken leg in his hand and he used it as pointer.*

"Hey..you. What's your name? I'm Sirius..this is Remus and James..and Lily and Maeve. " Sirius stared at him. He looked a bit thrown back that someone actually had spoken to him.

Peter was surprised that someone had addressed him. So surprised, in fact, that he found he didn't really know what to say. "Pe...Pe..Peter," he squeaked. "Peter Pettigrew. Nice to meet you."
