Bucket List Ventures

A hufflepuff boy, and a ravenclaw girl with a bucket list. There are arguments, and some 'agree to disagree' moments. Awkward, confused monologues and arrangements. And amongst it all is a friendship. These are the ventures of Noel Wallace and Maddison Cooper

Scene one:
Two students can be seen chatting in front of the student bulletin board on the ground floor, the taller boy busy toying with what looks like a poster. One which advertises the band he hopes to put together. Somehow he's convinced the shorter girl next to him to help with this mission, given it was on his bucket list and all. Hopefully they make it through the task without many arguments.

"So you should definitely write a song about me, y'know, providing this whole band things pans out." She had her back to the bulletin board and was watching the blonde boy intently, her tone light. "That way when I'm ruler of the world and they give me my own special or something on muggle televison, they can use your song as a theme song." Which benefited them both, really.

"Do you even know anyone else who plays an instrument here?" She didn't really see WHY he needed anyone else, actually. Going solo was probably a better mood given the way bands broke up but it was HIS addition to the bucket list so she had to go along with it. Didn't mean she couldn't add her two knuts about it.

"What makes you think I already haven't started to write one about you?" Noel Wallace countered as he fished out the flyers from his bag. He had plans to put them on the student boards, and hand them out. The whole idea was too precious for him to take lightly. "And no, I am not telling you anything else about it" he added with a grin. Or that it already might have a name: The Impossible Girl

Sticking the flyer on to the board, the fourth year took a step back to determine if it looked alright. It had to grab people's attention right away, you know? "Does this look alright?" he mused to her, before angling it to the right a little.

"I don't actually - hence the flyer" he said, refraining to add a 'duh' at the end of the sentence. "I am desperate for a drummer, you know." he told her - sticking two more flyers alongside. "And a keyboard player would be a bounce!"

Just thinking about it made him so excited.

Wait, WHAT? Maddie's mouth opened to complain about not having HEARD a THING about this song when the blonde boy seemed to read her thoughts. "Well I DEMAND to hear it when it's done. I mean, you HAVE to play it for me if it's ABOUT me." Honestly Wallace, what were you thinking mentioning such a thing? Maddie would never let it go now.

Stepping back to get a better look at the flyer, the brunette tilted her head and considered the colors and the size of the words and basically, whether she'd think of contacting Noel if SHE played an instrument. Her final thoughts? "You really should've put your face on the flyer."

"A bounce, huh?" What exactly did THAT mean? Maddie didn't know. Noel was a confusing human and how he just assumed you knew what he meant, WELL, it could be annoying at times. Lucky for HIM, the thirteen year old was used to his antics. "You should have a cello player. I actually know a guy." Boy, to be exact. Still, Thornton would add a lot of cute to this band.

"Demand?" he asked with a pulled up brow and that pesky grin. "Really?" It was funny, almost as if he had something on her. "Yes, it's about you but it's MY song. I can play it for whoever I deem worthy" He told her with a shrug like he honestly would never play for her. Teasing, yep.

Noel actually tore his eyes away from the flyer at her suggestion and gave her a look. "Really?" Honestly! He wasn't sure if he should be taking it as a compliment or insult. Because WHO wants to be known for their face? But then it also meant she thought his face was attractive, yeah? He tried not to think about that part much because then it would just trouble him more.

Bounce? Huh? He actually had to think for a moment before he shook his head. "Yeah, sorry - my sister, she is little and her words are stuck in my brain I guess" It was true. It was honestly surprising he wasn't talking completely like his four year old sister Sunny because most of the summer he had her stuck to him.

"Cello?" Noel made a face. "Dude, no. I don't think my band has the cello kind of sound" Oh yeah.

She didn't say a WORD but Maddie did give Noel a look. An If you know what's good for you, you will play me that song, Wallace kind of look. She'd inherited this particular skill from her mother who was known to quiet a table full of arguing men ~~and one small girl~~ with merely an eyebrow raise. A different kind of magic, that was.

"Yes, really. I don't talk just to hear myself. I mean what I say." She tilted her head, observing his face. Definitely flyer worthy though if he waited a few years, he might even have BETTER luck. "Don't you ever look in a mirror?"

"Cello playing is lovely. I HAPPEN to have someone who plays for me in the common room." And she was happy to be an audience to that, JUST saying. "What sound ARE you going for, then?" She wanted to know.

It was really hard to look away when Maddie gave him the look. It was scary, Noel was not going to lie. He didn't say anything else but he got the message, yeah, but then he looked away because if he kept looking he might have started to sing.

Maddie meant what she said, that Noel Wallace truly believed that alright. It was slightly embarrassing hearing her say that about his face though. "I do, but I never - " he shrugged, before bending to pick up his bag, " - focused on that" Did she notice he was doing that 'avoiding her eye' thing again?

"Lets walk?" he suggested before moving forward.

Someone played for her? "Who?" he straight up asked. It was crucial information. "I am not sure yet, but it's not that, " he quickly said before getting back to the bigger topic: "but anyway, who plays for you again?"

She won, did he know? There was a smile the boy would have seen if he hadn't looked away. Maddie was pleased.

She noticed everything, Noel Wallace. Like how he NEVER seemed to look her in the eye for too long, as if she'd suddenly go all Medusa on him and turn him to stone. It'd be a cool party trick and everything but it'd DEFINITELY hurt the whole snogging buddies arrangement. "I see." She did.

Falling into step with him, Maddie shoved her hands into her pockets and smiled to herself. Was he bothered that someone else was serenading her? Should've jumped at the chance first then, HUH?

"Thornton Baines. He's a friend. Quite good, too." As for Noel not knowing the type of music he wanted to make, she added, "Not heavy metal, right?" She wasn't a fan.

Leading the way down another corridor, the brunette kept her focus on the spaces around, looking for the best spots to advertise her indecisive friend here.

Pulling the strap of the bag on his shoulder, Noel contemplated if he knew anyone by the name of Thornton Baines. A couple of faces came to mind, but only because he might have seen her talking to some of them but none had the name of Thornton Baines.

Oh. A friend. That was nice.

"So what year is he?" he asked, stopping by another wall and pulling out a flyer to paste.

"No. Definitely not heavy metal. I don't think anyone would be able to appreciate the words of the song if it's done the heavy metal way" he said, pasting the flyer corner to corner on the wall. "Besides I enjoy writing, it'd be a waste if no one could understandthe lyrics" And besides, heavy metal was not his thing. Period.

Maddie paused and leaned against the wall, her gaze sweeping the corridor for any sign of life. She could hear people talking somewhere not too far off but no sign of students just yet. And to think she'd hoped to see people react to these flyers.

"He's a second year. In my house so we hang out sometimes." Brown eyes landed on the Hufflepuff and watched him again. "Why do you ask?"

So he was a writer. She didn't know that before so this little mission they were on was proving beneficial to her after all. "And WHERE do you write all these songs of yours?" She asked casually but there was an obvious motive behind the question.

Second year? Noel just grinned to that without meaning to. No further questions were needed. "Oh, just curiosity" he shrugged.

Her next question was a little silly. "On paper" he replied, with a stupid smile and backing off to look at the flyer. Picking up the bag again, and resuming the walk - Noel continued: "It's here and there, I have a notebook but it's a lot of scribbling" he said.

It was weird to be talking so much about him. His face. His band. His writing.

"Uh. Tell me something that you like to do," he said, looking at her. "I write cause of my dad, he is a writer. Like a proper writer. I think I got it from him. Do you have something like that?"

It was nice to be talking to her about this stuff, though. Their usual banter had so much tension, it was actually nice to be talking without that.

"Don't look so pleased." Observant, remember? Maddie raised her eyebrows at him, the smirk following shortly after. She was getting eerily good at it, the smirking. This skill being one she'd gotten from her father, though she'd never in a MILLION years admit it.

Just for THAT answer, Maddie waited until Noel had resumed walking to adjust the flyer, hanging it upside down. There, MUCH better. She then hurried to catch up with him, eyes focused on something off in the distance. "Notebook, got it." Was that notebook maybe in his backpack or?

They were crossing into dangerous territory with this conversation and at the mention of his father, the brunette became visibly uncomfortable. She didn't want to talk about family. Not when it meant talking about her own father who she, in all honesty, knew next to nothing about. You can imagine how horrible that was for a girl who wanted to know EVERYTHING.

"Not really." She didn't have something like that. "But ...I like origami. I like when my hands are busy."

Noel couldn't help but match the smirk Maddie gave. And it was really surprising, given that he was not really the 'smirking' kind of guy.

Something really quickly changed. Noel could sense it. It was weird how good he as getting at sensing these things when he was around her. It was really very weird. Before he could question it or see her face, she was speaking again. "Really?" he said, surprised. "you have to show me sometime" he added.

A small pause followed but soon not being able to help himself, he asked in a small voice: "What happened?"

"Sure. I've been charming them too so they can move." The book Dora had sent had been read cover to cover over the summer several times and Maddie knew things by heart now. Being at Hogwarts meant she could put all she'd learned into practice.

..."What do you mean?" What happened to make her want to do origami or keep her hands busy or? She had a feeling she KNEW what he was getting at but if she was right, stalling could only benefit her.

"You should put one there." A flyer. She pointed to a spot and motioned for one. She could help. That was why she was here, after all.

She charmed them to move? Noel was actually impressed and for a tinsy second he imagined singing HER song on stage with her moving origami birds flying around. Wow. He was turning into a girl. But it was still a pretty sight in his head. He kept the little daydream to himself though, and just saying: "you have to show me sometime"

If he could get a knut for every time he could TELL there was something off and she ignored his inquiry, he would be able to go on that tour he was saving up for after his seventh year. Also, the last thing on his bucket list. So he sorta give her a look: "you KNOW what I mean"

Don't play dumb with me, ravenclaw. I know you .... sorta.

Looking at the place she was pointing at, Noel stopped and took another flyer out and started pasting it and WAITING for her to explain.

He had that look in his eyes, Noel did. The one that meant he was here but his mind was somewhere far away. Maddie could tell and she watched him intently, wondering where his mind had gone. "That can be arranged." The showing him the charmed origami thing. Only AFTER she heard her song, obviously.

Nope, sorry. Maddie wasn't going to do this. "I really don't. Maybe you should be specific." She pulled her sleeves over her hands, the small gesture making her feel a little less exposed at the moment. Then she started walking again, he'd catch up when he'd finished hanging the flyer.

Noel frowned ever so lightly because really Maddie, really? Not really paying attention to the flyer anymore, the fourth year turned to look at her but she was already gone. What the- ?

Giving the flyer a quick look, the boy left it be and jogged his way to her. This is what he was talking about. Her walking away and avoiding and pretending she didn't get what he was asking. "Okay, let's try this - do you not want to talk about it?" he asked, because if she didn't wanted to tell him then he couldn't really force her, could he?

"I don't want to talk about it." There. Maddie glanced at the Hufflepuff briefly and then her gaze shifted, focused somewhere down the hall.

"C'mon, let's finish with the flyers and then go get something to eat. I don't really want to talk anymore."

Noel sighed MORE in frustration than defeat. Because even though he had given her an option, he had HOPED she would actually talk to him.

Mumbling something like 'should've known', Noel nodded and followed the brunette and decided to bring his concentration back to the flyers.

Scene Two: Noel Wallace finds himself outside of the Ravenclaw common room with a milkshake and two straws just a bit before curfew. Hoping to continue his last conversation with Maddie? Probably. Couldn't hurt to bribe her with a sweet treat. Being so close to the kitchen really did have its privileges .

"You're making this whole late night corridor visit a habit, y'know."

Maddie had been summoned by a first year who'd informed her there was a VERY blonde Hufflepuff in the corridor waiting for her. As she didn't make it a habit of growing too close to Hufflepuffs-short life expectancy and all- the brunette knew EXACTLY who would be waiting for her even BEFORE she stepped foot outside of her common room.

"So what brings you here THIS time, Wallace? Lose Lamb again?" The soon-to-be fourteen year old took a seat, leaning against the wall. They had some time before Coral-Bay and/or Gabe ushered her back inside so she s'posed she could hang for a little while.

Noel was a ball of random things. He had inherited that from his mother's side. Knowing the insomniac he was, the hufflepuff had gotten out of bed and slipped out the common room before the curfew. He couldn't sleep before three anyway, so why waste time in bed?

He had easily gotten into the kitchens and had the generous and kind elves make him a milkshake. He was just sorta craving. While he was having a ball, sitting in the kitchens, watching the elves work and have his milkshake, he just really couldn't get his head off things. And he wanted to talk. While Hayley had already heard his rant in the afternoon, the fourteen year old decided not to disturb his cousin and instead bullied a kid to get the other ravenclaw he knew.

And she had kindly accepted his invitation of having milkshake before bed.

He grinned hearing her when she finally came out, "It's kind of nice, don't you think?" he asked. It was kind of their thing? Talking before bed, even though he was the one who always walked all the way up the stairs.

Leaning back on the wall too, Noel offered the milkshake he had gotten as a reply to her question. Placing her straw in, he said: "I was kind of bored and thought we could talk and drink at the same time"

"SURE it is." Maddie noted the grin and gave one in return. "WHY would I want to be in my cozy common room when I could be out here in the drafty corridor with you?" Her tone was light. Just kidding here, Wallace. He could tell that much, yes?

Wait, he brought her something? Maddie eyed the straw and THEN the other and THEN eyed Noel. "You mean drink and THEN chat and THEN drink some more? I think drinking AND talking at the same time would lead to dribbled milkshake and hard to understand conversation." JUST saying.

Also, there was only one cup. "We're meant to share, then?" The brunette motioned to the shake and raised her eyebrows. Germs, y'know? She was always wary of them. Then again, they HAD kissed TWICE by now so maybe it didn't matter if she shared with HIM. Maybe.

Noel got the joke, alright. His grin stayed and he replied: "Exactly" Because cozy common room, and dorm beds were always there. "Nights and milkshakes with friends are rare" he added, completing his thought out loud.

Noel Wallace ROLLED his eyes. "You and your ravenclaw-y need to correct everything I say," he said with a tease-sigh because apparently they were both in a friendly and good mood, yes? Or was his hufflepuff-ness showing? "But yes, that was the gist. Good conversation and milkshake sharing"

He gave her a look. "Yes" They had kissed, and she was willing to kiss him more - surely she had no trouble sharing a drink. He had had the courtesy to bring her her own straw. Was that not enough? "Is there a problem?" He asked, while taking a slurping sip. Please say no?

Maddie honestly wouldn't know. She'd never had friends before Hogwarts so her knowledge on how prevelant milkshake meet-ups were was minimal. She'd take his word for it, this time.

"It's just so much FUN to correct you," She replied with a smirk. It was ANOTHER one of their things. The thing where Noel came up with these ideas and got exciteable explaining them and Maddie did her best to make sense of it all. It amused her very much, this aspect of their friendship. She was going to keep doing it, just so he knew.

"Is there a problem? Well-" She was SO tempted to say yes JUST to see what Noel Wallace would do. Sometimes it was fun to watch him squirm. He DID seem awfully happy right now, though. And when Maddie refused to participate he USUALLY got all huffy and quiet and weird and she COULD eat. He'd probably take the milkshake away if she gave him a hard time. THIS was a hard decision. ..."No, no problem. Just asking." Hunger won out. THAT and Maddie had never shared a milkshake-or any other drink-before. This was a first.

After taking a drawn-out sip, the third year glanced up at the Hufflepuff and asked, "So what are we supposed to be talking about?"

Fine. Noel would give her that. She could keep correcting him, as long as she would agree to hear him rant, and be a partner in crime and that other thing too, yes - which he could not say out loud in his head much.

Noel was watching her, and was so ready to hear her problem and even more ready to not have a reply for her problem because yeah. But thank fully she retreated, and Noel was grateful. Because why could they not enjoy having this drink and talking?

He smiled watching her take a sip, he felt triumphant. He even gave her that smile and look which said 'SEE, I told you this was fun'

"Well, anything really. Tell me about your day"
