Its summer 2097 and your character has signed up to be part of a potentially lucrative curse-breaking opportunity. This particular location is unplottable for ultra security and secrecy while Gringotts Wizarding Bank unearths its secrets. The Gringotts Curse-Breakers are not the only experts on the scene however - this is a joint enterprise and there are contingents from the Cairo campus of the Wizarding University, as well as a freelance group who hire themselves out to lend a hand when a particularly lucrative 'treasure-and-curse' opportunity arises.
The meeting point is a series of tents right outside the dig site - all of the team have been provided with portkeys to get them here, and will have the night to settle in and get the lay of the land before the teams begin their work in the morning. Other than the tents there's a LOT of sand and not much else to be seen, thanks to the spells protecting the site from muggle notice.
Anyone is welcome to join this RP (as advertised within the SnitchSeeker RPG timeline, March 2097 in the Daily Prophet). You can RP as many characters as you feel able to play, providing it makes sense for them to be part of this expedition.
The following character opportunities are available:
SPOILER!!: charries wanted/bios
Gringotts Curse-Breakers & Trainees (your character can be added to this list, for any of the locations around the world). While the primary goal is to profit and bring back treasures, the Gringotts Curse-Breakers are respectful of the dig sites and the remnants of history within. There are mixed experience levels among the Gringotts contingent, including brand new green trainees who have put their names down for this mission and been approved by the goblins who don't particularly care about the risks that their human employees may face and consequently weren't as thorough as they could have been when it came to certifying the trainees were of age.
Cairo University Students & Staff Many of the Wiz-U students are more focused on the historical elements of digs like this one. They primarily want to discover new information, restore priceless artifacts, and preserve historical sites for posterity. A bit of profit is nice of course, but this contingent are more interested in the academia of it all.
Copernicus Kettleburn - Cairo WU Professor [Archaeology & Linguistic Anthropology] (Cassirin) Joseph Flamel - Cairo WU Professor [Rune Studies] (Zoe) Bella Drechsler -- Research Lead, Graduate Student (LilFox06) Thomas Watts - Madrid Grad school student (Archaeology) and Part time instructor (SarcasticStrawberry) Vivian Fairfield - University Student, WU Madrid (Kimothy)
Freelancers these guys are all about the profit, so they're not so inclined to be respectful of artifacts, relics, or of the dead, and are more likely to be careless, make mistakes and leave some destruction in their collective wakes. They're out for themselves and don't much care about the historical aspects of curse-breaking missions like this one. There may be a few troublemakers among this lot
Assorted (Wizarding) Archaeology experts, sponsors, and hangers-on If you want to play any other kind of character you absolutely can! Go ahead and post a bio, and you can PM Tegz if you want to figure out if a character concept is going to be fitting or not if you like.
Please note that '???' are not empty slots, just consider them npc's for now, they're in case anyone else joins us. And if we 'run out' of spots there's more tents on the other side of the arrival point Men's (and male-identifying team member) Tents

We will begin once we have a few bios up
Anyone can join any time - but please post a bio before you start RPing so that it can be linked into this first post for reference.

Zia wasn't entirely sure what to expect at an expedition like this. She had done her fair share of medical volunteering out in the field but she reckoned it was very different when there was cursebreaking involved. It didn't help that her stepbrother had been his usual brooding self, not even bothering to give her any pointers even though they will be sharing the same desert air for the next few days. No matter. She wasn't here for the cursebreaking, she was merely here to make sure that nobody loses a limb or Merlin forbid, die. Her stepbrother can fall off the face of the earth through a dig site for all she cared.
Upon arriving, the healer gave Marmie the house elf a small smile as it talked, most of her attention on the creature's ear or lack thereof. She had to wonder how that came to be. But soon enough the house elf was done talking and she was being directed to her tent which she was going to share with...the woman who was making her exit.
Zia only made a brief eye contact with the woman and thanked Marmie for the help before stepping inside. Quickly, she unpacked and took quick note of the card's contents. Given where the medical tent was situated, she would be getting a front row seat to the action without actually taking part. Lovely.
A quick glance at her watch told her she still had a few minutes (about 3 and 47 seconds) before they were expected in the mess tent and she was going to savor that by lounging on her bed for the time being.
______________
Gavin paid little to no heed at the house elf. He had been to enough of these things to know what to expect (the same could not be said for his stepsister). What he was looking forward to the most was of course what kind of treasure they would discover this time, and the challenge that came with it. There was also the fact that prominent names in the cursebreaking industry was part of this expedition and he would want to make an acquaintance of them.
Wordlessly following the house elf to his tent assignment, Gavin took note of the name of who he was going to share the space with. A fellow Gringotts cursebreaker, one he had met in passing sometime ago. Good call on their part not to pair him off with a nosy body, or worse, a babbling teenager.
Once the house elf disappeared, he immediately went to unpack the few things he always brought to these expeditions, familiarized himself with the information on his card and was soon on his way to the mess tent.

Helo was already in the mess tent given he'd been on site a few days already. Actually he was keen to get into things, but he knew that they had to wait until the following morning before they could officially begin. Not before time, as one might say. Besides, given there were several different factions represented in this project, it was a nice idea to catch up with everyone and get to know faces and names.
His own tent was already well settled, though he didn't have a lot of personal touches in there. It wasn't his style. Still, there was signs of life in the form of practical things. Helo only ever took with him what he could fit in the one rucksack, albeit a magically expanded rucksack.
He was sitting on one of the long benches at one of the tables in the mess tent, writing in his field notes book - a pocketsized waterproof notebook. Useful thing. He carried it on himself always along with a decent belt knife and his wand. And the first of the new arrivals was coming in too. He looked up and offered a half wave in greeting.
"Grab a nametag, there's a bunch there." The Head Curse-Breaker pointed at the table, where blank tags waited, along with a couple of markers to write the names on with. His own said 'Helo Banner' without any bother for his job title. If they didn't know who he was from his name then they hadn't been paying any attention when they signed up for this thing.
_______________
"Thank you Marmie, dear!" What a sweet little elf! Talia Trent sailed into her tent, noticed that the other bed had already been claimed, and proceeded to put up photographs on her side. Her husband Malachi, the soon-to-be new Headmaster at Hogwarts, and their two children Mavis and Kale. All smiling and waving at her. She made the most of her five minutes, wanting to make her temporary home away from home as comfortable as possible. Her dig gear was comfy too, and well-worn. Whenever she slipped into her khakis, her long sleeved shirt (currently with the sleeves rolled up), and her hiking boots (with sand gaiters over, Tally never minded about how she looked, she just preferred keeping sand and anything else out of her socks and her boots thanks), it was like a second skin. She adjusted her hat and with a final satisfied look around, she headed out to the mess tent too (card studied and now slipped into her pocket), a little early but that was all to the good.
"Hi Helo!" She waved at her boss and went ahead and grabbed a name tag, writing on it 'Tally Trent' in happy loops, and stuck it on her chest before sitting down on one of the benches. Not long to wait now - actually, there was Marmie again heading out to ring that bell that she'd spotted just outside of the open flaps of the mess tent.
_____
Its been about five minutes since you arrived - time to head to the mess tent. Did you check where it was? If not, no matter, Marmie the house elf is now outside of it, ringing a bell. A sharp CLANG CLANGITY CLANG that is as good of a summons as any. She has an apron on, and a puffy chefs hat is now lopsidedly propped on her head, covering her torn ear. She's on cooking duty tonight.
Time to meet and greet your fellow adventurers, and hear a few words of welcome and an unofficial briefing from Helo Banner and Bella Dreschler, who are taking point on this particular mission.

Addison winced slightly as Marmie the house-elf decided to chose the moment he was just passing her to start ringing a bell obviously to summon the team for their supposed meeting. Alrighty then, he mused to himself as he absently rubbed the ear nearest the sound. Stepping into the tent, he spotted Helo and Talia already there, the former not a surprise since the head cursebreaker was the leader of this ragtag group.
“Hey guys….” He greeted the familiar faces of his collegues before moving to follow suit with the name tag. Addison Nairne was soon written on the one in his possession, adding Gringotts in smaller letter beneath it as an afterthought in case anyone wanted to know which group he was coming from without referring to the info card. The name tag added to his shirt before he took a seat on a bench to await the rest.

For some reason (read: Curse Breaking-related and adventure-related), Vivian Fairfield was very much excited and looking forward to this opportunity of a life time. Once she arrived, the former Slytherin took a moment to take in her surroundings. Mostly sand, of course given the geography, but with tents all around. Not surprising in this case. But she did give the house elf a finger wiggle as a greeting. She was quite a talker, but perhaps that was protocol too.
With Marmie done, she took a quick scan at the parchment with the tent assignments, made her way to her assigned tent, and immediately beamed at her tent mate the moment she unzipped it open. "Hi, Mrs. Drechsler!" Vivian greeted her former instructor before letting herself in to unpack her things. Normally, these circumstances would have been awkward. She had shared a dorm with her roomies back them at Hogwarts, for seven years at that. These living arrangements weren't foreign at all to the blond. Maybe just the thought of sharing with a professor was weird, but Vivian decided that Mrs. Bella Drechsler was cool. After all, she was the reason why Vivian was here in the first place. She owed for this opportunity.
Vivian began unpacking her things, but arranged her photographs first including one her and her sister and another of her family which was a rather old one taken before her parents passed over a year ago. She also had brought a couple of university textbooks that she might find useful for this adventure. You know, just in case. Vivian also took a while to scan through the other attendees and was pleased to see some familiar names. There was former year mate Levi whom she didn't know quite well, and her friend Juni who would be a seventh year in the incoming term. Even the name of her former runes professor, Sokolov, caught her attention. This should be interesting, indeed.
The loud clanging of the bell meant their five minutes of possible self-reflection was over, and Vivian looked over to her former professor. "I think we should go now, Mrs. Drechsler." Since she was one of the in-charge for this mission. Vivian didn't want to sound bossy towards a superior. After double knotting her boots and tying her hair up in a ponytail for good measure, the blond stood up, unzipped their tent and started heading towards the mess tent.
"Good day, everyone," Vivian greeted all the occupants of the mess tent with a little smile before taking a blank name tag and marker, and filling it in and taking a seat. Her name tag, now attached to her shirt, read 'Vivian Fairfield' and a small 'Curse Breaking student, WU Madrid' below her name.

Now that was annoying. Viktor looked at the map and didn't need a loud clanging bell telling him where they were supposed to meet. Oh, and if luck would have it his tent mate was here and well his hope that he would no-show was gone.
Shame.
Not in the mood for chatter he just gave him a nod back.
Well now was time to get to the mess tent and see what was going on right now. He made his way there ignoring the elf best he could which was hard with the bell. He heard what Banner said and looked for the name tags grabbing one and just writing down his first name Viktor onto it. Writing anything else was not important and the people that mattered already knew who he was.
As for saying hello. He was just going to stand there in silence looking at everyone and gauging experience levels while all the while waiting for Banner to say something.

Hawke made his way to the mess hall, holding the map in his hands as he did. He tucked it in his pocket as he entered. Turns out he didn't really need the map, the house elf had very obviously marked the path. He vaguely wondered if the house elf would be doing that for all mess hall gatherings -- like breakfast.
He wrote his name and slapped it on his chest. Hawke Zunther -- Gringotts Trainee. Hopefully that trainee thing meant he was fine getting away with being just a little bit hopeless. Sure, he had studied and prepared, but that's not the same as being out here doing the work with an ex girlfriend around who wouldn't make him nervous at all.
He took a seat at one of the tables and anxiously drummed his fingers against it.

Bella exited the tent shortly after Vivian, she just had to grab a few things first. She gathered a rolled up map that she'd grabbed from the university as well as her notebook. Bella Keller Drechsler was always one to keep detailed notes about any expedition, and that included the people.
She arrived at the mess hall tent, nodding a greeting to the house elf. She then dropped the roll on one of the tables and grabbed a name tag.
"Hello Helo." she greeted while writing her name on one of the name tags. She smiled faintly imagining how soon her tags would all read Dr Bella Drechsler. She was well on her way to her title and this was going to look spectacular on her resume.
After attaching her name tag, she leaned against a table with her hands on either side of her and her notebook just slightly off to the side, never out of reach. She then took mental inventory of everyone. It was a habit of hers -- always important to be able to identify anyone on your team.

"Just a moment," Copernicus needed a few more moments to settle his bunk and stow his pack, but he needed longer to check his portable office space in his trunk. Perhaps some people had the luxury to travel light, but as an academic, Copernicus liked to bring his texts and some lab equipment.
It wasn't the best time to take up a new project, but he believed his wife understood why he was a bit over eager to sign on to whatever came across next. It helped that it was a worthy venture, and that Cela took such an active interest in his work. And it helped that Chloe was busy with her horses and her new badge and Callum was off being his busy self. And Charlotte... he put that particular volume back on the mental shelf for now.
"Ready," Cope grabbed the half packed satchel (only FOUR texts) and headed for the door of the tent. It was good news he was bunking with Flamel, since he already knew the man, trusted him, and liked him. No hardship there.
The mess tent was already half full, and Cope scowled at the name badges when he spotted them. Not to put too fine a point on it, but he didn't care who everyone was. He'd figure it out if he needed to - Cope was the professor on dig sites who didn't bother to learn everyone's names because they changed so frequently. He wasn't heartless, just practical.
"Banner," he nodded at the man in charge and slapped his own badge onto the lapel of his cotton shirt. Professor C. Kettleburn
Marmie. Levi half wondered if that was short for Marmalade, but he didn't ask. In fact, he didn't say much of anything at all to the little elf aside from his thanks once he was shown to his tent. He still wasn't sure if he had made the right decision, having very little experience outside of what he knew from his classwork, and he wasn't sure how that would compare to anyone else here. But that wasn't something he was about to reveal.
Once he was inside his tent he took a look at the card on the unclaimed bed, turning it over once to glance at the back. He'd be rooming with someone called Hawke Zunther. The name wasn't familiar, though there were a couple vaguely familiar names in other tents. And it looked like he'd already been here and gone, by the appearance of the personal effects at one side of the tent.
Levi didn't have time to dwell on any of that though, because in the next moment a bell was clanging, prompting them towards the mess tent. The nineteen year old dropped his bag on the bed, pocketed his map, and headed out to the meeting place.
"Mr. Banner," he nodded a greeting to the man in charge, then grabbed a nametag as he was instructed. How long did they have to wear these? Hopefully not after today. But he quickly scribbled his name on it before adhering it to his chest. And then he took a seat next to the first familiar face he saw - Vivian Fairfield. "Hello."

Johanna pulled the camera from her face. It was difficult to see the screen with the sun beating down on the desert, but with a little hand cupping and effective use of her own shadow, she determined this shot was a winner. Excellent. Just in time to make her way to the mess tent, and get away from the loud noises that cute elf Marmie was making.
Johanna stepped into the tent with her camera hanging loosely around her neck, and her credentials hanging in front of it. She forwent the name the nametags offered by Mr. Banner and looked around the room, taking note of names already adhered to people's chests. Curse breakers, academics and interns. Johanna took a special interest in the curse breakers - their lives must be fascinating, especially the freelance ones - but made her way towards one in particular, recognising her name from the room assignments. But first, she nodded towards the head cursebreaker in greeting. It was his publication in the Daily Prophet that piqued her interest, and the reason she was here.
And now for her new acquaintance. "Hello, Mrs. Trent? Johanna von Brandt, we're tent partners."

Sylvie was the personification of nerves as she strode into the tent, immediately going to the nametags and scribbling her name and the word 'trainee' before carefully pressing it to her chest. Turning back around to the interior of the tent, she immediately spotted people she knew. And one person who SHOULD be here who isn't. Juni wasn't going to bail and leave her alone with Hawke right?? They hadn't been exceptionally close at school, but she was a year mate and Sylvie was fond of her and she was familiar and uncomplicated.
Speaking of complicated.
The blonde nodded to the various people milling around, swallowing thickly as she spotted former students who would know that she did not belong here (luckily, she hadn't known either of them well) before going to stand next to Hawke. And.. smiled. Awkwardly.
"Hey." Juniper where are you?

A simple nod was sent Copernicus' way when the man said he needed just a little more time to unpack. Joseph wasn't at all surprised. He was certain his tent mate had brought his portable office again. Not that anyone was complaining about that; it did come in handy.
The clanging of a bell then sounded, and the pair were both ready to depart the tent. The Rune Studies professor didn't have much to say on the walk over to the mess tent. He, as he was certain his colleague did too, was alright with the momentary silence. The mess hall was sure to be loud, but at least there would be food.
Name tags being sighted didn't cause much of a reaction from him. A bit unnecessary in his opinion since he doubted he'd remember half the names and faces there, but the man was willing to go along with it.
"Evening, Banner," Joseph greeted the Head Curse-Breaker, placing a tag labelled Professor Flamel on his shirt. He looked around for a moment and then sat down at one of the tables.
The nod from his tent mate went unnoticed. No chit chat was made between the two. Malik wasn't interested in getting to know who the man was. Quite frankly, he wasn't here to roast marshmallows or braid hair with anyone. Making friends wasn't necessary as all he wanted was to reap the rewards from the dig and make some bank.
After a meal in the mess tent, apparently. The bell caught his attention and he caught sight of the tent flap going into place. Whoever his tent mate was had already left. Good riddance.
His mind was already plotting. Instead of going to the mess tent, he could just sneak off to the dig site. He knew where it was now. But then his conscious, what little bit of a conscious he had, told him that he wouldn't get very far. Eventually someone would notice he'd be missing and go looking for him.
So, begrudgingly, he casually made his way over to the mess tent. Instantly he was not impressed. Did they have to eat together and socialise? He was a lone wolf kind of guy to be honest. Regardless, he scribbled Malik on a name tag, slapped it onto his chest, and took a seat.
Arriving to the mess tent, Juni folded the map and slipped it into her pocket. Then she slipped into the tent. Her eyes moving around for the two people that she was most glad were here too. They had to be here. Juni had to admit that this was when she was going to start getting nervous about things. What with former students that she knew and her best friends dad there as well.
Scanning the room and spotting both Sylvie and Hawke, standing together good so they were going to be able to get along. Or for now at least. Before going over to join them she grabbed a nametag and wrote her name and trainee on it. Sticking it to her shirt she headed over Sylvie and Hawke. [b]”Hey guys.”[‘/b] Relieved to them. As long as they stuck together they would be fine. She just needed to remind herself this. Hopefully feels would not get in the way of the trio, she did not want to be in the middle of that.
-----------------------
After finishing the apple, Thomas rolled off of the bed, quickly unpacked his bag. He mostly had books and clothes packed in his bag. Things to write his is family, something he always did when he was on dig sites at night before bed.
Taking a look at the map before heading over the mess tent for the briefing. He didn’t realize just how many people he didn’t recognize from here. He knew just a few Bella obviously and Vivian she was at the University too. Nodding to people as he passed and greeting them with hello.
The twenty six year old took a name tag and scribbled his name down on it, and snuck it to his shirt. Waving over to Bella, he headed over there to her. ”Hey.” Leaning on the table as well.

Gavin kept his irritation in check at the loud, shrill clanging of the bell care of Marmie, the house elf. It was annoying, but necessary, since there might be some who didn't know how to read a map or tell the time. The cursebreaker stepped inside the mess tent and offered Helo Banner a respectable nod, before moving to grab a name tag in which he only scrawled his last name, 'Thorndike' on then plastered to the front of his chest.
Contrary to how he was in his early years, Gavin was not one for pleasantries anymore although he managed to give his other fellow Gringotts cursebreakers a small nod of acknowledgment. The two Cairo Professors got a verbal greeting and yet another nod. "Professor Flamel." ... "Professor Kettleburn." And finally, to Bella, if only because she was this expedition's research lead. "Mrs. Dreschler."
Afterwards, he took a seat and waited.
___________
Was she late?
The awful sounding bell announced her arrival to the mess tent. Looking around, she saw that she wasn't late, not really. They still haven't started. But neither was she early and because she wasn't going to actively participate in any digging whatsoever, she left the name tags to those who will and just stayed inconspicuously in one corner. She was their designated healer on site. That's it. It wasn't like she would know anyone else here anyway, besides her stepbrother, Gavin.

Brief eye contact indeed.
Swiftly making her way to the mess hall with cat-like precision and was already inside by the time the house elf began ringing that blasted bell summoning people to it. If they couldn't be reliable to know when five minute were up, then why were they here? Rolling her eyes a bit as she smoothed her name tag out over her corset, her name written in Daphne's elaborate calligraphy and made a brief lingering look towards Banner. Her 'boss', as it were. He knew how she felt about these types of pleasantries and she was even less enthusiastic at the prospect of being given direction by a child. A Gryffindor one at that. Add another strike against her that she had been one of her brother's pupils and it was going to be near impossible for her to take that blonde serious. Though, let it be known that the woman could have a change of opinion once someone had proven their worth in action - she was not one for a list of credentials. Did not make her brother any less insufferable with his lengthy list.
May the odds be in that one's favor.
As for greetings, no thank you. And she was quick to note which among those present were the chatty sort and which were not. Though she could not help the smirk that tugged at her lips when Twinkle Toes made his appearance and she made sure to sashay right on by him. "Viktor," she greeted coolly, her deceptively dainty in appearance fingers reaching to flick his nose before heading over to one of the tables.
Sliding in beside one Joseph Flamel, her minty eyes remained focused forward and the rest of her body in a haughty relaxed state - hands holding on to the back of her seat and one leg crossed over the other.

Tally greeted most people at the least with a smile, but then one girl was speaking directly to her and the smile grew wider.
"Johanna, nice to meet you! I--" But Helo was speaking up, so Tally crossed her eyes and mouthed that they'd talk later, and then she turned her attention to her boss, and then smiled over at the young people who were the trainees. She hadn't had a chance to look over any of their files yet - they must have been very newly graduated! Well, she'd do her best to keep her eye on them.
____________________
All the familiar faces got friendly greetings from Helo, so did the not so familiar ones when they greeted him anyway. Viktor wasn't gonna sit? Well that was up to him of course, and Helo wouldn't insist, even if there was plenty of space for everyone. Some of the new trainees looked.... pretty young. But then again all of them under twenty-fives looked young to Helo at this point in his life. When had he got that old, honestly?
He waited for the stragglers and then figured it was about time to address everyone. Aaaand... he didn't bother standing up. Wasn't about to get that formal right yet.
"Welcome everyone, you all know who I am I expect, but for anyone not paying attention, I'm Helo Banner, head Curse-Breaker over with Gringotts." He said. "We're lucky to be able to work closely with the University at this site - once we've explored the tombs," Because perhaps unsurprisingly, that was what they were facing, "and Gringotts has acquired a return on our investment here, the University will be taking over this site permanently to hopefully uncover a bit of its magical history. Because no mistake: it IS a magical site, and a dangerous one at that. We are about to explore the final resting place of some particularly ancient shaman-type figures. We've secured the first chamber, and from that central chamber there are several sealed doors leading in different directions that as of yet have not been breached. The tent covering the entry point has been disillusioned as a precaution in case any muggles in the area get past the camp perimeter." And because it was a requirement as far as all the red tape bureaucracy went with these things. Good ol' statute.
"You'll get a full debrief in the morning about what to expect. We're looking for a few things in particular, based on the writings uncovered at another site. There's some kind of ancient spell tome or book- it isn't clear if it is supposed to physically be a book or if its written in or on something else- which the university will be gifted if we find it," He nodded in Bella's direction at that, her being the research lead, "And there are supposed to be some kind of crystal wands - absolutely priceless as you can all imagine I'm sure, which is part of why Gringotts has invested so much into this dig. Any other treasure, once cataloged and cleared, will be fair game, but nothing should be removed without it being logged first. Oh and you'll all be able to take what you need from the stores tent, as long as you sign out anything you take." The usual sort of thing.
"As for you trainees..." They really looked VERY young, didn't they? But then didn't everyone these days? "Tally here will be looking after you. Stick with her, ask her any questions that you have and try not to get yourselves killed." They had signed those release forms after all.... it WAS the nature and reality of the job.
"Umm.... that's about it from me for now. We'll eat in just a moment, and then you can all settle in and get some rest ready to get started in the morning. Bella?" He looked at the young Mrs Dreschler, the proverbial floor was hers if she wanted to say anything.

Mess Hall -- Bella would like very much for you not to ruin history

Bella nodded a greeting as each person entered the tent, automatically sizing them up. There was a few that she was already worried about – they had that look that made the history lover anxious for the fate of the tomb.
But this sort of thing couldn't be avoided when you hired outside help – especially freelancers. (Although, some of those Gringotts lot didn't look very historically responsible either.) At least Thomas was here with her. If she had to be with people, she'd choose him to work with every time.
She waited as Helo gave his introductions, brushing her thumb against the sea turtle tattoo on her wrist while he spoke, her mind curious as to whether he'd go into detail about the other site, but it didn't appear he was. That was fine by her. When it was her turn, she tucked some of her blonde hair behind her ear and headed to the front.
”Just a reminder – this is an academic site.” she stressed once again. She looked at a grouping of some of the younger looking ones. ”There's extra pronunciation guides and dictionaries in the storage tent should you need them. You are required to use native language so as not to damage anything.” So, in this case, say hello to learning in Ancient Egyptian.
”There are also cameras in the storage room, if you plan on wandering off, you're required to take one and document exactly how a room looks when it's opened for the first time.” There is often significance to where items are placed in a room and she wasn't going to let someone's impatience ruin that. There was a whole process to the documentation and cataloging, which, hopefully, everyone was somewhat familiar with. She wouldn't get into it now though.
”If you come across anything made of meteorite, just come grab me. You'll know it when you see it." She paused, making sure that statement was heard on it's own before continuing, "If you've never dealt with things like cursed divination bowls, now isn't the time to start. A perimeter of at least twice a large as the object should be sufficient.” They all did read their release forms, right? She didn't want anyone messing with residual magical energy unless they knew what they were doing. Those things in a tomb like this were particularly dangerous. Anyone not trained in the interesting stuff could just go treasure hunt or something.
”Oh. One more thing. If anyone runs into a scarab, I've got a collection from every Egyptian expedition” and *ahem* non-expedition ”I've been on. I haven't found a commemorative one for an obelisk being built yet. So keep an eye out.”
Yes. She did just tell everyone to keep a look out for her souvenir of choice.
"I think we're good to eat now. if you've got any questions, come see me whenever." She glanced around for the house elf, they were ready to eat now. Then it was time to rest up, they had a job to do.

Figures she would be here and was actually impressed they made it this long without greeting each other. Eh, it didn't matter. She had Viktor's attention that he even forgot to sit down for the briefing. His eyes went to Helo as he started talking.
Book for the university and crystal wands for them.
They could be fun
Supposed to be logged. Wonder how strict they were going to watch over them for that. Oh that was it from him. Now the young one who looked like they could still be in boarding school was talking. She was good at giving orders he would give her that. We will see how many actually follow them once it begins. Him and his tent mate especially. Daphne, who really knew. Divinations bowels. It has been a long time since he had to deal with one of those. Should be fun Well he was planning on wandering but no plans on taking a camera and we will see about the damage since you never know what will happen once this begins.
Random Things tend to happen.
Could they eat now???

Copernicus was frustrated. He was often frustrated, honestly, because he had clear ideas on how the world should work, but at the moment, he was frustrated with Banner and Bella and essentially anyone who had organized this particular outing. He had questions, and they hadn't provided any time for questions.
What kind of world was it where there wasn't a decent Q&A offered?
PHILOMATH ❅ not one atom, but two ♪ ♪ made of starstuff ❅ def main():
Sylvie was in awe. So much, in fact, that she almost forgot that Hawke was right there and she could be singled out at any second and asked to go home, and that there's a very real possibility that she'd over-estimated her ability to be able to actually do this without dying.
Mr. Banner's words were so grown up. Words like perimeter and debrief and "return on investment" whatever that meant. And all the other curse breakers were so tough looking, like real life video game characters.. Real life tomb raiders! Especially that woman, with the corset, and that other woman who had sand protectors, and those men too who were sort of scary looking. It dawned on the young seventeen year old, perhaps for the first time, that this was actually going to happen. She's actually going to step into an ancient Egyptian tomb that were, uh, the final resting place of "shaman-type figures", and she's actually going to go into never before explored chambers........... Wow. Just.. WOW.
Sylvie couldn't help it. Fear melted away as quickly as it had arrived, and was replaced by an unbelievable sense of excitement. Sure, it would be dangerous, SURE, she was probably (definitely) in over her head, but she'd never been so genuinely passionate about anything in her life. She wanted to see those chambers so badly, she wanted to learn everything Mrs. Tally had to teach her, she wanted to learn what to do and how to do it and how to protect herself and how to BREAK CURSES. She wanted to be just like all these capable, cool, curse breaking adults in the room. And BY MERLIN (and THRALL), she'd do it.
..... Wait, come again? Ancient Egyptian??

Helo Banner began talking and Johanna von Brandt began repeating his words, silently, as the miniscule sand coloured quill spurred into action. She wrote down everything he had to say, and everything the - Johanna squinted at the letters on the woman's chest - Bella Drechsler said too. She did seem oddly familiar, Johanna noted after a few moments. Had they met before during her travels? The twenty three year old made a mental reminder to speak with her once the group got settled.
Johanna was here for some sort of story. Looking around the tent, she noted with no small amount of interest that there was a certain palpable tension in the air. Between the curse breakers? Between the curse breakers and the academics? Perhaps the trainees were going to stir up trouble? Johanna would record it all. At this exact moment her eyes were focused on a certain duo of curse breakers, but they dragged to the Professor present - a Kettleburn, if she remembered from her reading - when he raised his hand. Good, questions. They meant more information. Johanna loved more information.

Addison was doing his best to keep track as he watched each and every person that came into the tent after him. Except at one point it was becoming too much and he simply acknowledged them with a nod and waited for the little get-together to begin. There was a reason he tended to prefer numbers and not letters. Or maybe he was just drawn to people watching in case he needed to pay attention to any of them in the future because of trouble
At last Helo’s was bringing them back to him to begin, the cursebreaker silently obeying and listening to the other man. Most of it was self-explanatory, that this was a joint effort between Gringotts and the University. What had been already set up, what they were already aware of on the site and what possible dangers and discoveries might exist. Addison mentally jotted down, sure he’d add more useful information to his more physical notes from the morning briefing.
Now onto Bella, the lead from Cairo.
Nothing too out of the ordinary. This wasn’t his first rodeo after all. Addison didn’t plan on wandering off as he had a job to do, nor getting himself cursed for his wife would kill him, but a camera could still prove useful as he worked. And he’d have to keep an eye out for an scarabs for the young woman’s collection. But no questions at the moment for him.

And here came the speeches. Joy. Though in case there was anything interesting and useful to be pooled by the collective words of Banner and the blonde child, Daphne provided them with her undivided attention. Attention that turned quickly to disappointment at the mention of having to wait until morning before being given a proper debriefing. Well, she would see about that.
Crystal wands and explanations of diligent record keeping later and then it was this Bella Dreschler's turn. She had one chance to give the brunette a good first impression, so she better not waste it. And she had Daphne's approval...until the implied personal shopping list mention. No thank you. Though the rest of it, respecting the site and retaining its essence and all that was well processed and accepted. Daphne may be a lot of things, but a thoughtless destroyer of history was not among these. Not unless it became necessary for self preservation which, well, no promises could be made there.
As for all the logs and record keeping both were so insistent upon, she could play along and do as instructed for appearances sake. It would only raise suspicions and make her look incompetent if she returned from the site with absolutely nothing to show for it.
Green eyes shifted to the hand being raised in her peripheral vision to Kettleburn, who she had read a thing or two about as well, with his hand raised. How cute.

Hawke was very grateful that the introductions started before he could get more than a greeting in to Juni and Sylvie. Even then, he couldn't help but side glance in Sylvie's direction. A million things were running through his head trying to tell if she was doing alright and then trying not to think about her too much.
It was a rollercoaster.
But then he caught something that was said. Erm... he hadn't prepped any Ancient Egyptian phrases. He didn't know that was a thing, although, he now knew it was foolish to think that.
She glanced at the two girls. They were also thinking they needed to grab those dictionaries immediately after dinner, right?

Bella was about to take a seat when she noticed a hand up. She said those with questions were welcome to come talk to her, but she didn't expect there to be any questions until tomorrow after the full briefing meeting.
"Yes, Professor? You have a question?"

The crowd was starting to disperse in favor of eating, and Copernicus was concerned that his hand wouldn't be noticed. Not that he would put his hand down until his question was answered, and he had the stamina to sit with his hand up for hours if necessary.
But it wasn't necessary, because there was Bella. Copernicus made a point to speak loudly enough so that she could hear him over the rumble of the crowd, although his tone was still polite and formal. "Flamel and I will need access to the text, if that's possible. I'm sure you've had it translated by experts, but it would help immensely if we could examine it as well. Also topographical maps? Geological surveys? And we'd like to adopt one of the trainees as an assistant to help in documenting. We can rotate through them if preferred, but if the university won't have claim to every finding, we can at least have documentation of it."
Sardine VIP || Shark Attack! || D A R T E R || Captain Oblivious
Bella nodded. Yes, very good questions, which partially would have been covered tomorrow.
"In the debrief tent is where we'll keep all that stuff. Right now we've got texts from the other tombs, as well as those layouts. We also have translations for the entry area." The only one currently excavated. "The plan is to keep everything" (everything that isn't sensitive anyway) "in that tent, organized by discovery area. You're welcome to add your notes or comments to the collective as we go or wait until we discover more."
She didn't really care because either way there would be a huge indexing and compiling project after their initial work is done.
As for the second part -- "That's fine by me. Either volunteers or rotate them out." She glanced in the direction of the woman with the Tally Trent nametag. Helo left her in charge of the trainees, she was sure something could be worked out there.

It had been quite a while since Vivian saw people from Hogwarts. After heading off to Madrid for uni, she'd only ever kept contact with her constants, good friends, and roomies. Seeing some of the people she used to see a lot in her old school brought a new wave of nostalgia. It was like, for a moment, she missed Hogwarts. That was a big lie, though, because she really didn't miss that castle anymore. Not when she almost died nearly every term she spent in there. The people, sure, but not the experiences.
There were other Hogwarts students, probably those who were in their seventh year. She only personally knew Juniper though because they were friends, but Vivian offered a tiny smile at the ones around her age. She was more comfortable that way. The presence of former Professor Sokolov was quite awkward. Vivian never really knew how to approach her former professors after they left school or after she graduated. Smiling at the adult-er ones (she considered herself an adulting person now) was still weird, except for Mrs. Drechsler and Thomas, whom Vivian knew since they studied in Madrid with her. No offense to the others, though. She, however, felt a sense of relief knowing that she wasn't the only person in her year in this adventure. "Hi, Levi," the blond greeted him with a tiny smile, giving him way to sit beside her. She didn't mind.
Vivian directed all her attention up front to Mr. Banner and Mrs. Drechsler once they began their introductions. She looked down on the map side of her laminated card, nodding as she followed along. The former Slytherin was most intrigued with the fact that they had to speak in Ancient Egyptian. Vivian Fairfield, of all people, would not mind learning new languages. She made a mental note to visit the storage tent for a copy of the Ancient Egyptian dictionary.
"Let's go grab something?" The blond said to Levi as she began rising from her seat. She hoped the food was good. House elves never seemed to disappoint, at least.

Before he could engage in much conversation with Vivian, Mr. Banner began to speak and Levi turned his attention toward the man as he was eager for the information he'd need for this excursion. Crystal wands? Huh. That was interesting. He wasn't sure he'd ever heard of such a thing. But he was most interested in the ancient spell book. And the treasure they could keep, of course.
He shifted his eyes to Tally at her mention.... and uh, yeah. He did not want to get himself killed. He'd keep that in mind. And then he looked towards Bella as she was introduced, who gave them even more information. They'd need to know Ancient Egyptian? Levi knew none, but he was bilingual and actually looked forward to the prospect of learning another language.
It all sounded so dangerous, but really exciting at the same time. Levi hoped he made the right choice in signing up. But no time to dwell on that now; he was rather hungry. The twenty year old turned to Vivian and nodded. "Sure, I could eat." He got up from his seat as well, following her lead. "I wonder what the local cuisine is like."
