A Lion and a Badger

Benadi...

Two best friends, first real close during school and now inseparable as they start the rest of their lives together.
Benjamin Atreyu and Aditya Rehman are now on their own outside the normalcy and safety of the walls of Hogwarts.
Wizarding University and the great wide world await the boyfriends as they explore what its like to really be adults in the wizarding and muggle worlds.

Locations
Benadi Apartment: Two bedroom apartment in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Their first very own home close to school.

Cassiopeia's Cafe: A friendly cafe owned by Benny's mother

Rehman House: The childhood home of Adi, home of Saieed and Indira Rehman

Wizarding University: Edinburgh Campus of the school, where Benny and Adi take classes towards their degrees.

Scene 1 : Cassiopeia's Cafe

Ben's mom's cafe was chosen as the location for the ritual meeting of the families. Aka the first full Atreyu-Rehman get-together. The one where the boys tell their loved ones the truth about their relationship and see just how they react.

"I try to make sure he doesn't." Benny's words rang through Indira's mind. It was only then that she realised that he was taking care of her son in her absence and had probably been doing so years before now. The thought made her both grateful and ashamed for the way she was being towards Benny.

She blew lightly onto her tea before taking another sip and as she listened to Benny. She could tell he was nervous. Indira lowered her cup, meeting his eyes. She did not tell him that over the last few days she had been growing towards acceptance. She didn't tell him that she could see Adi was much happier than he had been when he was with that girl. Again, her pride was too big.

"That is a good idea. Do you mean like a compromise of some sort?''

He wasn't aware of Indira's thinking on him helping Adi. Or that it was anything special given they had helped each other during their school years at Hogwarts together. That's what best friends and boyfriends were good for. So why would it be any different in university? Or the rest of their lives for that matter since he and Adi already were thinking ahead of it.

As he finished speaking, Benny waited for a reaction and answer from his companion. She drank her tea and eventually met his eyes, dark ones to blue much like he and Adi helping his nerves. That was what this visit was all about...their relationship was all that important.

"Not sure if compromise is the word....but yes."

Indira said nothing for a few seconds after Benny's words. She forced herself to think straight and speak as normal as possible. Benny was rather lucky that she was so fond of him. He had that working in his favour. "It was difficult for me to accept it,'' she said speaking slowly as she lowered her cup and wondered at the same time wondering if Benny had noticed she used past tense- was. "I still fully don't but I've seen how much you two care for each other. I've seen it over the previous years but that has intensified now and I can't deny that you've always made Adi happy.''

She sighed. Indira may be old fashioned and stubborn but when it came to her son... sons as Benny had been one to her all these years too... she couldn't hold out forever. "What do you have in mind, Benny, to help us get past this?'' Help her get past it, rather.

Benny absently sipped his tea, more to keep himself grounded than actually enjoying the warm cup. He listened to his pseudo-mother as she spoke, not registering the tense she was using until something seemed odd in her wording. The former Gryffindor couldn't help the mildly confused look on his face as he tried to piece it all together. Was she supporting them now? Or working on changing her own mind?

Or was he just imagining it in his hopes?

And now for his thoughts as requested, his gaze returning fully to Indira. "Well for one...let us both be open to the possibility that I will legally be your son one day." He and Adi had talked about the future, and their getting married was already planned in the mix. And maybe it would help if Indira didn't think of their relationship as a fling or temporary thing.

Benny was confused by her words and Indira could see it. In all fairness, even she was confused. Her mind seemed to be working in two opposite directions; she was unable to come to a decision. It was much like having that little devil and angel on either shoulder whispering into her ears.

She set her cup on the table at his next words. The woman had thought of this, actually. Adi and Benny seemed very serious but whether it was reluctance to admit this or whether she was searching for reassurance, she asked her next questions. "I take it you two have started planning a future together then?'' This would make a lot of sense. Adi always set his goals and worked towards them. "You don't intend to hurt him?"

Now that was a reaction.

The woman before him putting down her tea cup on the table at what he had said. Now he had wait to see what it meant and somewhat thankfully, it wasn't a long wait. "Uh huh..." Benny said with a nod. "We have. Though timing is still up in the air." Last talk was pertaining to right after graduation. And his future mother in law didn't need to know about their joking conversations about children.

At her next question, he shook his head strongly even before he thought on it. "No...never," he remarked, setting down his own mug. Not only because of his feelings but because hurting Adi would only hurt himself in the end. He had already experienced a part of that and he didn't want a repeat.

So, she was not getting a daughter-in-law for certain then. Indira was disappointed and was aware that it may be reflected on her face. She had hoped Adi would end up dating Divya, the daughter of one of their neighbours since she and him had been friends for practically all their lives. Indira was old fashioned like that; she had planned her son's future in her head. Benny's talk of the future with Adi did give her some reassurances though. It eased her mind. What was said next did it even more so.

"I know how miserable he was when you two had your falling outs,'' she told Benny. Adi had written home describing the fights during his third and sixth years at Hogwarts. "If you hurt him, Benjamin, I just know he will fall to pieces.'' And no mother wanted to have to watch her child suffer like that.

Her face faltered.

Ben noticed that change, however small it had been. He couldn't help but wonder if he had caused trouble with his words. They had seemed to be gaining ground with their pseudo-'compromise' but he didn't know what to make of this latest development in their conversation.

He lowered his gaze as she mentioned their struggles over the years. They had caused him just as much pain if not more, seeing as the third year troubles had been the result of actions Adi had taken against him. As Benny heard Indira continue, he shook his head again before tentatively reaching over the table to cover the woman's hand. "You need not be concerned of that happening."

Had Saieed been right? Now that Indira had said the words aloud about Benny's and Adi's few fights the previous years and how miserable had been, she wondered if she indeed should have prepared herself for something like this. But all she had ever thought about the boys' relationship was one of strong friendship.

Indira was mildly surprised at the hand covering hers but she did not pull away. Benny's words were very reassuring and she trusted him fully to know that he was speaking truthfully. She found herself smiling. Perhaps it was because of her husband's many sessions trying to make her see reason along with Benny's reassurances but Indira just knew from that moment that she couldn't stand against her sons for a moment longer. "I know I don't. Just keep him happy,'' she said then added, ''And see to it he doesn't over work himself.''

The moment his skin had touched hers, Benny had wondered if he had made the wrong move. She seemed to be at least somewhat taken back by it and he almost apologized and pulled back until he realized she hadn't moved her hand first. And then she was smiling at him. The former Gryffindor watched and waiting, trying to make sense of it all before she finally spoke and broke the silence.

I know I don't. Just keep him happy.

Did that mean? Was she okay with them?

"I will," he said with a smile and a nod of confirmation. "And try my best," Benny added to the last as he finally withdrew his hand from hers. Adi didn't make it easy, at least as easy as the task of keeping him happy.

It felt as though a great, big weight had been lifted from her shoulders because of two reasons. Firstly, because Indira had finally completely accepted her sons' relationships and secondly, Benny's promise of keeping Adi happy. She knew Adi would continue doing the same for him (this had become noticeable over the last few months- the happiness).

"Thank you,'' she added. Her smile was still in place. Maybe she should have listened to Saieed and Adi earlier. It would have saved everyone involved from any worries and sadness she had caused them. Though... it was better late than never.

Benny too felt as if there was a nice release in his life, no longer burdened by the concern over his pseudo-mother's feelings towards him and him and Adi. He bit back a sigh of relief, going with a bright smile towards the woman instead. "No..." he mused as she thanked him. "Thank you." He was happy for the change of events and a part of him couldn't wait for his boyfriend to hear the news.

Leaving the Rehman house after a bit, Benny had apparated back to Edinburgh and made his way to the apartment. A quick glance at his watch told him, he had cut it kind of close with Adi's schedule. Unlocking the door, he set his key on the table beside the door and looked around to see if the other man was home yet or not. "Adi....?"

It was one of those rare days when Aditya Rehman was SUPER tired. Part of this was because he always had a difficult time falling asleep every night but then woke up early every morning to work out and make breakfast for himself and Benny. The second part of the reason was that today had been especially hectic at University, with hardly any free time due to his double major studies.

So, he had thrown himself on the couch the moment he got home, only managing to drop his book bag on the floor and removing his socks and sneakers. Adi now lay on his back, taking a snooze since Benny hadn't been around when he came in. He did jerk out of his sleepy stupor at the call of his name though. "In here,'' he called back as he dragged a hand through his hair so that it got all tussled up.

He heard the response coming from the living room, the tone certainly not seeming entirely normal from Adi. Benny moved towards him, his smile faltering a little when he spotted his boyfriend laying down on the couch. “You okay?” he asked, his head tilted to the side curiously as he was concerned just a little. He had thought he had looked a little tired earlier but it hadn’t been this bad. And he wasn’t entirely aware that Adi had been having trouble sleeping since he usually drifted off first.

“Hard day?” Benny questioned as he moved closer, eventually to take a seat on the edge of the couch near his companion’s waist. All thoughts of his own day momentarily forgotten as he paid attention to Adi and his own.

Adi smiled when Benny came into view. There was nothing like setting your eyes on the person you loved the most after a looooong day. "Yep, I am! Just tired because of all the classes." He tried to reassure Benny. Just look at him being so concerned! "And because I always fall asleep long after you have and last night was no different.'' Yeah, Adi always took a while to sleep except when he was super duper tired or when Benny wore him out.

Adi tousled his hair again as Benny came closer. Great Hippogriffs! That nap had sure helped him. Sure, he still felt sleepy but not as much as before. He grinned again and sat up, leaning forward to rest his head on his boyfriend's shoulder closest to him. "Where were you?'' Some snuggles before he had fallen asleep would have been nice. Hehe.

Now there was the smile that Benny expected out of Adi, the happy-go-lucky hippogriff. Relief came over the dragon’s face, only added to by the words of assurance from his boyfriend’s lips. “I just hope it’s not running yourself too ragged,” he mused, reminded of the mutual concerns of him and Indira. And the woman’s request of him. No, he would just need to make sure his other half got to rest for the rest of the day if he could.

Benny watched as Adi played with his hair, likely attempting to not have it look all slept in. He personally didn’t mind either way, as his boyfriend was still fine. A smile gracing his face as Adi leans a head on his shoulder, the former Gryffindor raising a hand to lightly brush his face. And there was the awkward question that reminded him of the little errand he had took upon himself that afternoon.

“Kent…” he answered simply at first before slowly lowering his hand again. “I…um…went to see your mother.”

Adi could see how relieved Benny was. He really hated making him worry, you know. He shook his head. "Nope, I can handle it. Just need to eat all the sugar to get back the energy,'' he joked. "Besides, you're here... you'll help me through it.'' It made him feel SO MUCH better knowing that his boyfriend was always there for him. At least he could always look forward to help with finishing his Magizoology homework and even get some help when it came to potions.

Adi smiled at the comforting hand that touched his face. Yep, it was always great to have his dragon with him. His thoughts had drifted to food among other things when he heard Benny's reply and froze for a few seconds before pulling back from his shoulder, frowning slightly. "What? Why?'' Gosh, what if his mother had said something bad to him? Adi was always able to deal with whatever Indira had to say to him but his Benny was so sensitive and the Griff couldn't stand it if his mother had been rude again.

If he said so. Benny would still keep an eye on his boyfriend, even without said boyfriend really noticing or caring. He did chuckle and shake his head at the mention of sugaring himself up to compensate. “Yeah…I’ll help you through it…and make sure you don’t overdose of sugar while I’m at it,” he agreed and teased all in the same breath.

He felt the smile at his touch, the face contorting at the same time. However when he broke the news of his visit with Indira, Adi lifted his face from his shoulder in seemingly surprise. The words following and questioning confirming it. Benny bit the inside of his cheek as he thought on the best words to use to explain his actions. “I couldn’t…bear it any longer,” he finally answered with a sigh. “I felt we needed to talk…one on one.”

Mhmmm. See? Adi just knew that Benny would be looking out for him. He pretended to pout. "But sugar is the best! I can't keep away from it.'' He grinned at the tease then poked Benny on the arm. "You just want to spoil my fun.'' Nah, he knew differently. "Thanks for taking care of me, dragon.'' Yeah, for the previous years, now and the future. Adi couldn't have asked for a better significant other. He hugged Benny tightly now.

He remained silent for a while. Yeah, he did know how badly the situation had affected Benny. Even Adi's reassurances that they didn't need Indira's consent for anything hadn't convinced him. "How did it go?'' He really hoped that his mother hadn't gone over the edge and said stupid stuff. He was done trying to make her see reason but if things had gone badly today, he'd have to have a serious talk with her.

Benny couldn’t help but laugh at Adi’s pout, knowing it was in jest. “That I know very well,” he remarked, sticking his tongue out when he was poked. “That’s why it’s the level of sugar high I try and control.” As for spoiling his fun, pfft. Like he could really manage to do that with Adi. If anything the badger’s fun was just stopped from overflowing into his own life. “You’re quite welcome, Hippogriff.” Said dragon smiling at the hug.

“Better…better than I might have thought,” Benny answered, leaning his head back against Adi still smiling. “All she asked was I never hurt you…and that I look out for you…and I assured her of both.” And thus they had come to their understanding. Even more than the compromise that had started the conversation.

He was her son for real once more.

Adi laughed. Look at them as though they were a pair of younger teens still... Benny with his tongue being stuck out and Adi with his poking. The older young man was feeling wide awake by then and was itching to sink his teeth into something chocolatey. Were there any Froggies around? Or ice cream? YUM! "I'll just have to bribe you with all the sour stuff so I can have as many sweets as I like.'' LOL! He ~~clung~~ hugged Benny a bit more then let him go. It was comforting hanging onto him.

Adi was so surprised at this turn of events that he momentarily lots his voice. He just sat there staring at Benny's handsome face, trying to process it all. Benny hurt him? Uhh, as if! Well, Adi had only been hurt twice by him and the first time around had been his own fault with his jealousy though the second time around had been Benny's jealousy. But other than that, their friendship had remained super strong as was their romantic one. As for looking out for him, Benny always did that.

And still Adi had not found his voice.

"You can try..." Benny mused with a chuckle. He wasn't so easily bought with his sour treats as Adi was with his chocolately, sugarery ones. The arms tightened around him briefly before finally letting go around him though he kinda wished they hadn't. The closeness made up for the stress he had gone through to meet with his future mother-in-law. That and his boyfriend went silent once his arms had been removed from around him.

Had he said something wrong?

Had he killed Adi in the shock?

The younger man, turned to get a better look at his companion. "Adi?" he questioned, watching him. "Say something..." Benny mused, before adding in hopes to spur him on. "Don't make me tickle you."

"Mmm?" Was Adi's only response for a while. His mind was still in a whirl. No way... his mother had FINALLY given in. He had certainly tried his best to convince her mainly for Benny's peace of mind and he knew his dad had tried as well. And now it seemed to have paid off, just when Adi had been about to give up on her. Yeah, he wasn't the type to give up but Indira Rehman was one stubborn woman.

He jerked out of his thoughts to really focus on his boyfriend. Tickle? That actually didn't sound like a bad idea at all. "Sounds good. At least I'll work like pinching... to make sure I'm not in a dream,'' Adi said half jokingly. It was too good to be true but the news was actually starting to sink in. And he was quite ECSTATIC about it. "Gosh, Benny! This is one of the best news ever! I think it's you that made her finally give in when you reassured her.'' What else explanation could there be?

He continued to watch his boyfriend. The sound was a response of sorts, it certainly meant he wasn’t dead in shock, but he would prefer something more. The former Gryffindor raised his hands and moved them around Adi as if to follow through with his threat, however it was then that his companion beside him on the couch finally decided to speak up.

Benny laughed as Adi finally seemed to grasp what had happened and what was the outcome, pronouncing it as almost unreal. “I know…it surprised me too,” he agreed, briefly recalling his own reaction earlier in the day. “But it’s real,” the dragon assured, “she loves you…and me… and is okay with us together.” And in the end, to him it really didn't matter what or who had done it. All that mattered was that it was finished.

"Maybe."

Adi smiled as Benny laughed. The visit and outcome with his mother seemed to have made his boyfriend extra happy and Adi could say he in turn was happy about this. Merlin knew how badly it had bothered the other young man. "Well, I thought she was going to stay stubborn forever but you worked your magic, Benny.'' And then there was the whole angle about Indira loving them so she there was no way she would stay huffy.

"Thanks, mom!'' he thought to himself and making up his mind to send call her later on. Right now, Adi grinned and hugged Benny again. "I'm glad that's over.'' Yeah, the whole situation had bothered him but he had put on that 'don't care' attitude mostly to help Benny deal with it. And now it was gone... WOOT!

Adi released him after a while, that signature grin still in place. "I suddenly have this huge appetite now. I'll go make us something... anything in particular?"
