A Lion and a Badger

Benadi...

Two best friends, first real close during school and now inseparable as they start the rest of their lives together.
Benjamin Atreyu and Aditya Rehman are now on their own outside the normalcy and safety of the walls of Hogwarts.
Wizarding University and the great wide world await the boyfriends as they explore what its like to really be adults in the wizarding and muggle worlds.

Locations
Benadi Apartment: Two bedroom apartment in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Their first very own home close to school.

Cassiopeia's Cafe: A friendly cafe owned by Benny's mother

Rehman House: The childhood home of Adi, home of Saieed and Indira Rehman

Wizarding University: Edinburgh Campus of the school, where Benny and Adi take classes towards their degrees.

Scene 1 : Cassiopeia's Cafe

Ben's mom's cafe was chosen as the location for the ritual meeting of the families. Aka the first full Atreyu-Rehman get-together. The one where the boys tell their loved ones the truth about their relationship and see just how they react.

It was no surprise that a good deal of the books they owned, both together and apart, were tomes of various thicknesses and sizes on a diverse array of magical and mundane creatures. It was their mutual area of great interest, and so the biggest filler of the bookshelves, claiming a good portion of one side of first bookcase. The other side he left clear for any new books they might accumulate, which reminded him they needed to be on the look-out for a materials list for their first semester. The sections of the second bookcase were divided amongst potions which was the second largest group, transfiguration and other random subjects including pleasure reading.

His back to the direction of the dining area, Benny didn’t notice Adi’s return to where he was until he spoke. “Oh really?” he questioned as he turned towards his boyfriend, his eyebrow slightly raised in curiosity. What was his other half up to? The other half currently being casual and smirky in that behavior of his? “Then I suppose that will be your bedroom,” he commented innocently enough. Two could play at the teasing came and he had learned from the best he knew.

WOAH!

They had a lot of books. Adi hadn't realised this. Not until he saw them together now that Benny had set them up. Those would definitely come in handy. His bespectacled gaze returned to his boyfriend as he still leaned against the wall.

LOL!

The dining room could be his bedroom? Really, Benny? "Sounds like a plan. It's not too far from the kitchen. Surrounded by food and my favourite colour? I wouldn't miss it!'' The only thing he would be missing is his dragon but Benny knew he was teasing. "You just want to have that bedroom for yourself.''

Benny noticed the look Adi was giving after taking in his work with the books. "Yeah...even more than I had thought myself," he admitted as he vanished the empty boxes since he was done. "Good thing I had weeded out most of our duplicates before we packed," He had kept most of the Magical Creatures ones seeing as it was both their majors and could both possibly need them at the same time.

He chuckled and shook his head at Adi's comment."You'd miss me too much," he mused, knowing how much it was true...for both of them. "Just offering a use of the room now that we can't use it." Or host friends and family in it since they had options for meals on their own.

"We could open a library,'' Adi mused. Yeah, Benny had sorted the books out which was a good thing. "Books and dragons are my competition,'' he teased. He trusted that his boyfriend had packed the potion books too. Adi had quite a few of those and they would be just as useful later on especially when he planned to invent a potion or two

"Says who?'' He grinned, finally coming off the wall. "Why don't go come see it for yourself? Would you like to borrow my sunglasses to protect your eyes?'' Ehehehe. Adi reached over to grab Benny's hand and to lead him into the dining area.

“Har dee har har.” Benny wrinkled and wiggled his nose at him as he moved closer to where Adi was leaning. “And you don’t compete with any books,” he assured him before adding teasingly, “…just dragons.” It was a running joke between them that he had a warm-blooded girlfriend with wings and scales after all.

His boyfriend’s comment earned him a poke. “Says you.” In his own words…plenty of times. As for seeing the other room, the former Gryffindor figured he had to see it at some point. “Nah…I’ll brave it,” Benny mused as Adi grabbed his hand to pull him to see his work and he braced himself. “It’s…"

“…nice,” he said honestly, swatting Adi’s arms for misleading him.

Adi laughed, seeing that Benny had picked up on his tease and he in turn had found it funny. Then it was his own turn to laugh. "Those dragons better watch out. They'll soon learn that they're no match for me.'' Mhmm.

Adi sniggered at the poke. "I have no idea what you're talking about.'' Lies! He hated staying away from Benny so... yeah. Once in the kitchen, he stood there grinning and watching him. "Surprise! So blinding, huh?'' He laughed and tried to dodge the swat. What fun it was to tease him!

"So, should we move on to the other rooms? I think we're making good progress.''

“I’m sure they are fairly quick learners,” Benny mused with a chuckle. They were, after all, to be led by he, himself, and this dragon was very knowledgeable about the hippogriff that he now shared an apartment with. “Uh huh…” Like Adi really did have no clue as to what he was talking about. They both had separation issues when it came to sleeping, a fact made evident by the number of times they had broken school rules to stay overnight in the Room of Requirement together.

“So blinding…Flamsteed could use it to teach,” the former Gryffindor teased back. He had fallen for Adi’s tricks once more. As for moving on…”We are indeed,” Benny agreed, “I think the only place we really have to work on that we would use regularly, is our bedroom.”

Our.

That was nice to think on.

Adi laughed. Benny had jokes. Mhmmm... the dragon had surely picked up on his habits. "Professor Suit and his entire class would definitely need sunglasses.'' Astronomy classes... Adi would miss those as he would The Suit a.k.a Professor Flamsteed. The man had made him appreciate the subject a whole lot.

Oh, yeah!

Their bedroom! Adi grinned. "Lots and lots of orange there!'' he declared as he lead the way to the room. "Orange on the walls over there and there and there.'' He pointed, kidding around with Benny. "No blue for you, dragon.'' He now tilted his head, trying to figure out which parts of the room needed to have their colours changed.

Sunglasses…sun shades…the whole enchilada. If the room had really looked the way the hippogriff had described, it would certainly be a decent classroom for a lesson on the sun or other stars for that matter. But alas, Flamsteed was staying at Hogwarts and astronomy was a memory that they weren’t continuing on with in university. Unless it came as a random requirement they through in there for a semester.

“Nuh uh…not lots and lots of orange,” he protested as he followed Adi to the room in question. Nothing said not relaxing and calmly pleasant as a room completely done over in the bright color. He drew the line at his boyfriend’s supposed and he had the feeling that that was the point…to completely tease and play with him. “So mean you are to your other half.”

Adi fake pouted as he sontinued surveying the room. "Why not?'' He was distracted by a thought. Could he just forget about this whole adjusting the colours for now and cuddle Benny? Ehehe. But they were on such a roll with getting the apartment ready that he didn't want break this roll.

"Can't help it. It's one of the ways I show my love for you.'' Adi turned to face his boyfriend, a grin on his face. "Plus it's SUPER fun.'' Mhmm, it was! "Alright, Benny. Where do you want your blue to go? I'll let you choose because I'm just that nice.'' Nah, it just wasn't only that. He would always do whatever it takes to keep his Benny happy.

Even pouting Adi looked cute, and Benny almost moved to kiss him. But he knew where that would lead…their entire apartment to his boyfriend’s specifications. “Because I won’t be sleeping in a brightly colored room. Seven years of deep red was bright enough.” And his other half needn’t have any worry, he wasn’t going to design their bedroom like the Gryffindor dorms.

That earned Adi a tongue stuck out at him. But a tease meant in love was far better than one done in hate and Benny should know. He had experienced both from the former Hufflepuff when they were at odds with each other. “Nice, eh?” he questioned in half jest, moving to give the room a better look. “How about a dark blue linens and curtains…with a lighter color on the walls?” he offered as an option. Orange could always been in accents.

Too bad Adi couldn't do Occlumency to see what Benny was thinking. He would have approved been kissed right there and then and all work on their apartment stop for now. Oh well. "Yeah, I guess it would have been. Need soft blue for your eyes now.'' Adi was teasing him again, of course.

He eyed the tongue. Just another one of his habits had rubbed off on the boyfriend. "You bet I am.'' LOL! Well, he had quite a few persons tell him he was nice... the kids he interacted with at Hogwarts and at his cricket club. They all couldn't be lying. He considered the suggestion now. "Is being an interior designer your back up plan for a career?'' he teased. "Yep, this sounds good enough to me. You want to do the honours?" It was Benny's idea, after all.

Soft blue...or blue in general...or maybe some of the green family. They all would be nice in their room. "Mhmm..." was all he said as Adi confirmed that he was nice. His boyfriend has his moments but he wasn't going to continue to that line of teasing, they would be at it all day. Instead Ben watched and waited as his companion seemed to be thinking over his ideas, rolling his eyes at the job comment. "Ha ha...very funny." Like he would go for anything of the sort. He was just trying to be sure they were both comfortable in their joint living space.

With a nod, he raised his wand slightly to do just that. "Very well, " Benny said before getting to work on transfiguring the curtains and walls so that the colors of a peaceful sky and ocean surrounded them along the perimeter of the bedroom.

Adi couldn't stop grinning. Perhaps it was because of the fact that he and Benny were finally living together but he was happier than ever. It was very possible to be high on happiness, you know. "It sure is! I'm hilarious.'' Hehehe. Adi had his funny moments. And since Benny was getting to work on the room, he lazily jumped onto the bed on his belly, feet dangling over one of the edges.

He watched Benny change the colours of this and that to their favourite colours instead. The room sure looked even better than before. "It looks awesome!'' he commented about the parts that Benny had taken care of. "Just a few more rooms left to do now.'' Including the KITCHEN. Lots of food were going to be stashed there. Mhmm.

"As shown by the singing reindeer routine..." Ben remarked in return, the antlers still very much present atop his head. He had to admit with the number of times Adi had graced him with them, plus his time as a full reindeer thanks to Culloden's potion, he had gotten used to them enough that he could work with them. Glancing in his boyfriend's direction between spells, he spotted said boyfriend lounging around and playfully threw a pillow at him before returning innocently to his work.

Eventually he seemed done and stepped back to look around at it all. "It actually does," Benny admitted and agreed with Adi. He plopped himself down on the edge of the bed and laid back himself, careful of his headgear, pouting slightly at the mention of work to be done. "I call break."

The singing reindeer routine... excuse Adi as he laughed his head off. You see, that image always made him crack up. It was THAT hilarious. He buried his face in a pillow to muffle his laughter and was rewarded by another one being thrown at him by Benny. Adi grabbed it and tossed it back. At his head to be exact. Cue his playfulness showing itself yet again!

"My interior designer boyfriend,'' Adi teased. Indeed the room looked great! The colours matched perfectly just like a certain dragon and hippogriff did. He watched Benny lay down, a pout on his face which sent Adi laughing again. "Such a cute pout. Alrightey! A mini break and then back to work it is.''

He just rolled his eyes as Adi went crazy with laughter. Yeah...laugh it up there, hippogriff boy. Can't hide your laughter. Even with two pillows now, his throw having met his target perfectly. He then had to duck to avoid getting hit by the return throw which bounced off his antlers. Interior designer boyfriend making sure that the pillow hadn't gotten punctured by said antler.

"If you say so..." he mused, relaxing his pout into a smile as Adi agreed to a break. Now for some time with his other half.

Scene 3: Rehman House

Ben was trying his best not to be nervous, but it was nearly impossible. He was going to Adi's home, well his childhood home, to speak with his mother. On his own. Without his boyfriend's knowledge. The only one he had spoke to about it was Saieed, in hopes on being sure Indira would be home. And maybe on some level to make sure there was someone there as back-up if it went totally wrong.

He apparated to the house and made his way to the door, knocking politely before stepping back to await an answer. The former Gryffindor braved himself as he wasn't sure just who would actually answer the door. A silent wish for his future father-in-law so that he actually could get past the front door.

Indira was home alone today. Actually, most of the times she was, what with Adi being at Hogwarts but now living with Benny and Saieed and Amir being at work. There hadn't been much to do today now that she had submitted her articles for the Prophet so she had decided to settle down to read a book with a cup of tea.

She had just put the kettle on when she caught the sound of someone knocking on the front door. She hastened to answer it, wondering whom it could be. Indira pulled the door open, the smile on her face faltering slightly when she saw Benny. A quick look around told her Adi had not come with him. "Hello, Benjamin,'' she said, disappointed her son was not there.

Indira opened the door wider to invite him in. After all, she held nothing against him even if she was still not accepting of the relationship he shared with Adi.

Benny offered a small polite smile at Indira as the door to the house was opened to the woman in question. He tried not to seem tense but he couldn't help it and it was clear his companion was disappointed by his presence, especially alone. "Hello Mrs. Rehman," he greeted back, fighting the urge to flinch at his full name. Granted it was what his and Adi's parents preferred to call him but at this moment, it seemed like a reprimand.

As the door was widened, he took the silent gesture as the invitation it was to come in despite no words being said to him. Perhaps it had been a mistake to catch her unwarned but it was too late now. Now if only he could think of the right words to say to start this all out and get it over with. "How are you...and Mr. Rehman?" he asked for lack of anything else to break the ice.

Indira was going through an internal struggle. Something which she had been doing ever since Adi and Benny made their relationship be known. She wanted to be as warm and loving as she had been towards him as she had always been. She had considered him her as another son for so many years, after all. But her voice and attitude would not cooperate.

"We're fine,'' she said a little sharply than she intended. Indira closed the door behind Benny with a faint snap! "Why hasn't Adi come with you? Does he know you're here?'' She missed her son and was greatly relieved that things hadn't changed between them since this revelation. Even if she wanted to sulk and distance herself from him, he stubbornly wouldn't let her, a trait he inherited from him.

Indira bit her tongue. She needed to control herself. Her sharp and cold tone would make things bad. "I'm about to make some tea. Do you want to join me for a cup?'' There... a less sharp tone though still a bit cold.

Benny couldn’t help the winch at the rough tone her voice took as she answered his question. “That’s good,” he said with a nod as she closed the door behind him. Now he clearly wasn’t able to back down exactly. Not that he really wanted to, but this was tough. “Actually no…he doesn’t,” the future dragonolist admitted to the woman. “And he’s at class.” One of those they didn’t take together because of his boyfriend’s double major track.

Perfectly suitable answer…right?

He walked a little further inside, not quite looking at Indira until she spoke up again. “Yes…thank you. I would.” Tea could relax. Tea gave him something to do with his hands that he was trying not to idly fiddle with. and something to fill the awkward silences with too.

Indira led the way to the kitchen, trusting that Benny was following her. She set about retrieving cups and ingredients for the tea in a tray which she set on the table. "You can sit,'' she said curtly, indicating to a chair at the table. So, her son didn't know Benny was here. This led Indira to think that Benny wanted to talk to her about something and she had an idea what that was. "How is he?'' She turned to retrieve the now heated water and after a moment's hesitation... ''How are you?'' She still cared about the young man before her.

Indira herself took a seat then went about preparing their tea. "Is there something in particular I can help you with?'' She wanted to hear from him directly what was the reason for his visit without Adi.

Benny followed along silently behind Indira to the kitchen, though technically he knew the way given this wasn't the first visit to the house. He absently watched her retrieve the tea things before taking an offered seat at the kitchen table, swallowing slightly at the curt tone that was used. His hands were folded in front of him to keep from clenching them in response. "He's quite well," the lion answered, "settling nicely into classes."

As for him...

"I've been okay." Benny was having the same luck in classes and settling in, but he couldn't deny a nagging feeling that was bothering him. Adi had always said he didn't need her approval, but he couldn't get past not having it. As Indira prepared their tea and searched for his purpose for being their, the former Gryffindor was facing his fears trying to find the right words to answer with. "Perhaps..." he answered first and foremost.

"At least I hope you can...at some point in time."

Indira smiled slightly when she heard about Adi's well being and him settling into his classes. It didn't came as a surprise to her. Her son was always determined to be the best when it came to academics, Gobstones or cricket. "I hope he doesn't over work himself.'' She was worried about this with him pulling a double major and giving potion lessons at the same time. Not to mention he was training for that Gobstones team. She nodded now. Benny did look alright though it was clear something was bothering him. Again, she knew what that was. She wanted to hug him, hug his worries away but her pride held her back.

Indira remained silent until she had made them both a cup. She placed Benny's before him then picked up her own. "I will try,'' she replied in her still coldish voice though she meant this honestly. She took a sip, all ears and waiting on her other son to continue.

Benny was glad to see even a small smile from the woman across from him in response to his news on her son. It mean there was some good in these moments between them...the shared love for a certain aspiring potioner. "I try to make sure he doesn't," the dragon mused truthfully, his boyfriend being the perfectionist that had earned him top points all the years in school.

"Thank you," he said, accepting the offered cup and staring into its warm depths as he gathered himself. "I know...you have issue with our relationship...and I can't hold that against you," Benny mused, his hands wrapping around the outside of the mug. "And I know, um...it might take take some time to accept...if at all." That was the hardest part, and his eyes raised slightly towards her as he brought the tea to his lips to absently sip.

"I...I..just thought...perhaps we should talk. One on one...open and honestly. Maybe we can come to some sort of...understanding."
