Locations Benadi Apartment: Two bedroom apartment in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Their first very own home close to school. Cassiopeia's Cafe: A friendly cafe owned by Benny's mother Rehman House: The childhood home of Adi, home of Saieed and Indira Rehman Wizarding University: Edinburgh Campus of the school, where Benny and Adi take classes towards their degrees. Okay, Raj was definitely getting more and more used to Smokey and vice versa. This was one of the proudest moments of Adi’s life. Even if none of his kids turned out to have the love for creatures as he and Benny had, it was an accomplishment that they would have a vast amount of knowledge about creatures, particularly dragons and hippogriffs, even before they went off to Hogwarts. Adi backed away, heading for Benny and the twins.
“He can totally manage this,’’ Adi told Benny, his back against the enclosure so that he could still watch his son. He watched Smokey happily gobble up the ferret and raised its head towards Raj in anticipation of another. “You think suggesting Raj go for a bit of flying is too much, babe?’’ The hubby’s input was important, ya know. |

Rajesh was far too engrossed in his interaction with Smokey to notice his father moving further away from them. Instead, he was continuing to feed his furry and feathery new friend with the rest of the dead ferrets left there for the purpose once it was clear that the hippogriff was all for it. “Yummy huh…” the boy mused absently as he reached for the latest dead carcass. “Probably want this one too,” he added with just a touch of playful jest before tossing it for Smokey to catch next.
His gaze kept returning to Rajesh and Adi and Smokey, especially as the twins seemed distracted by what had been brought to occupy their attention. He watched as his other half approached, head tilting as he wondered at the topic at hand.
Raj…flying?
Benny looked between his husband, their son, and Smokey. Sure Raj and the hippogriff appeared to be best buds at the moment, but was the human side of this friendship ready for flying on the creature? Was HE ready for that to happen? Cue protective parent mode. “Hmmm perhaps.” It wasn’t like there wouldn’t be another time. He highly suspected that now with the connection made, Rajesh would be eager to continue strengthening it. “Maybe…leave something to look forward to for their next interaction.”

Smokey was one of the Hippogriffs at the Reserve who had an ENORMOUS appetite. Sort of like Adi only he wasn’t an actual Hippogriff. It was going to be in no time that Smokey finished off those ferrets. Raj certainly seemed to be enjoying himself. Smokey was liking this human, especially if he was going to keep feeding him. The hippogriff snorted and tossed its head: a clear indication that yes, he did want that ferret and all the others.
Adi was inclined to agree with Benny. Why spill all the fun now? “Raj can continue visiting Smokey whenever he likes. Eventually we can let him get acquainted with the other griffs. What do you think about that, babe?’’ The man made a mental note to let the help know about this decision once Benny agreed to it. And he also could not resist throwing in a tease. “You just want Raj to delay taking a ride on one because you refuse to believe he’s growing up so fast.’’ | |

Rajesh was laughing and having a grand old time, tossing the ferrets playfully as his companion eagerly scoffed them up. Until the boy turned to his empty pile and then back up. “Umm…that was the last one, Smokey,” he remarked, hoping the hippogriff was okay with that fact. He tentatively moved back closer to reach out and rub him again. “We’re still friends though...right?”
“Sure…” he agreed, thinking the idea was a good one. “All the more friends to have.” Of the animal variety anyway. Just as nice to have as the human ones. Did he wish the boys…all their kids for that matter…didn’t grow up so fast? Was he going to flat out tell his husband that even though Adi said it first? Maybe. Maybe not. “I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Benny finally decided on in response to the tease, the dragon acting all innocent and unaffected.
Hearing the interaction between boy and hippogriff, he couldn’t help but smile wistfully. “Wonder if you were that cute back then…” he mused to tease back.

Adi looked over back at Raj who had just fed Smokey the last of the ferrets. The son seemed to be having a good time, which was what Adi was hoping for in addition to Raj having first hand knowledge of hippogriffs. Smokey seemed very comfortable with Raj, Adi could see that from the way the griff leaned its head into Raj’s palm for the rubs.
Yes, sureee Adi didn’t know what Benny was talking about. Benny might have momentarily forgotten that Adi knew him best. He decided not to tease the other guy about their kids growing up, at least not for now. Truthfully, even Adi was a little sad that Raj had grown up so fast. Hadn’t it been just yesterday they’d adopted him as a toddler of three years old from the Stemp House?
So, Benny was going to tease HIM now? “You can always ask mom to show you the photos again,’’ the man replied brightly. | |
