A Lion and a Badger

Benadi...

Two best friends, first real close during school and now inseparable as they start the rest of their lives together.
Benjamin Atreyu and Aditya Rehman are now on their own outside the normalcy and safety of the walls of Hogwarts.
Wizarding University and the great wide world await the boyfriends as they explore what its like to really be adults in the wizarding and muggle worlds.

Locations
Benadi Apartment: Two bedroom apartment in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Their first very own home close to school.

Cassiopeia's Cafe: A friendly cafe owned by Benny's mother

Rehman House: The childhood home of Adi, home of Saieed and Indira Rehman

Wizarding University: Edinburgh Campus of the school, where Benny and Adi take classes towards their degrees.

Scene 1 : Cassiopeia's Cafe

Ben's mom's cafe was chosen as the location for the ritual meeting of the families. Aka the first full Atreyu-Rehman get-together. The one where the boys tell their loved ones the truth about their relationship and see just how they react.

He uncorked and downed his dose, bracing himself for the changes. One could never be sure the order they came upon you. Securing the vial once more, Benny tossed it to safety, not wanting to worry about dropping or losing it. It was then the familiar feeling of his skin changing occurred, the dragon looking down upon himself and noticing far more scales around his waist than he usually had. They quickly covered the entirety of his legs, changing their color from pale beige to a greenish tint.

Benny half-closed his eyes with a soft groan as his legs and feet were stretched into their new form, both limbs now stuck together. He leaned back slightly in the water, raising them up to reveal a full mermaid tail above the surface. Woah…it never got old. Opening his mouth to say something to Adi, instead he was greeted with a coughing fit. It was only as his other half dove beneath the surface did he realize the cause…oxygen from the air not the water. He rolled over on his stomach as he floated so his face was now under the water and inhaled, his breathing clearing even as he smiled at Adi as he spotted him.

Hi there, merman.

Oh man!

Adi hadn't realised just how proper he could see underwater. Admittedly, he had not expected it. At least he could breathe well which was the most important. He looked around, watching as Benny went through the similar and now familiar changes.

He grinned when the bestie-hubby descended into the water. "Hey!'' Oh, looky! They could actually speak! AWESOMEEE! "Catch me!'' he called before quickly swimming off. He had no idea where he was going but all he knew was that he wanted to swim. Moving the fish tail seemed to come naturally to him so it was easy for him.

He took his time simply floating there with his elongated creature form upon the water’s surface as he adjusted to this new type of breathing. The scales of his tale glistening in the sun and the tips of his tail flippers shifting with the soft waves of the coastal tides. His vision was clearer to, being able to keep them open wider and longer due to the changes the potion had allowed. This was certainly cool!

Benny had seen Adi say that word but he hadn’t expected to actually hear it. Judging by his husband’s reaction, it was clear that he hadn’t either. He supposed he hadn’t considered that being a beast that could speak would allow them to finally communicate while changed with something other than actions. As for the challenge placed before he, the dragon-merman smiled bemused and properly dove more fully under the water. “You’re on!” he called, his arms stretched out straight in front of him and his tail flipping up and down to propel him, getting faster as he got more used to the action of controlling it.

Of course Benny agreed to the race.

Adi was actually surprised that he was getting used to the whole tail thing so fast. Meaning, he was able to use the tail to almost properly swim. 'Almost' because for a while he wasn't swimming in a straight line. He had actually veered off to the right side for a moment but he eventually got back on track.

The guy barely had time to observe the watery surroundings because of the race but he did turn to look back at the bestie/ husband without stopping. "Not going to catch me, Benny!'' And with a laugh, he righted himself to continue swimming.

When would the race end?

Adi didn't know but who cared?

Adi’s off center swimming brought him across Benny’s intended path so he had to compensate. Which slowed the dragon merman down as he tried to adjust with a mix of tail and arms. Yet still he wasn’t giving up on his chances no matter how much Adi believed he himself was guaranteed the win. “So you say…” Benny remarked back as he worked on regaining his form and speed to catchup and hopefully overtake his husband.

Oooo…fish!

Benny did his best to avoid the school that darted out from a nearby shelter, the shiny school flittering away in reaction to his presence. He found he could almost touch one or a bunch in passing before resuming his part of the race. So cool. They hadn't been concerned until his movement spooked him, as if thinking him in his natural environment.

Getting…so…close.

Just how far back was Benny?

Adi took another chance and peeked over his shoulder once more. Since he had not been exactly been swimming in a straight line, he had thought this would have slowed him down from covering much distance. What he saw when he looked back was Benny and a school of fish.

He nearly laughed. Was the dragon being distracted by the fishes? "Hey, Benny! You need to catch up!'' What exactly was Adi doing now? Swimming backwards. Or at least trying to

He propelled the fins but he wasn't that good at it and it slowed him down considerably.

And he didn't even notice Benny catching up.

Apparently Adi had gotten curious as to where he himself was in the progress of the race. Or perhaps TOO curious seeing as it was the second time the badger had chanced to look back at him, this time in among the fishes just as he got clear of them. His tail fins flicking in between the last few creatures that had chosen to hang around until the bitter end. Benny chose not to answer his husband, his attention back fully on swimming and racing.

While Adi appeared to be trying to swim backwards

“Surprise!” he called out with a chuckle as he came up beside Adi having caught up. “Maybe you should give up the tricks,” Benny teased as he pulled ahead a little. Otherwise he’d be taking and keeping the lead and it wouldn’t be much of a challenge. Not that the dragon was letting up on his swimming though he did wonder just where they were actually racing to.

Annnd he was getting used to swimming backwards. It was actually more fun that regular swimming. Adi laughed when Benny caught up and yelled 'Surprise!' "I see you've finally caught up with me. Took you long enough.'' Cue the sticking out of tongue! "As if I ever would!'' Tricks and pranks were a part of his life.

But Adi righted himself to swim after the hubby. "Lots of space,'' he said. "And fishes which apparently like you. Wonder what the dragons would think of that.'' He still loved teasing Benny so much. Then suddenly, an idea happened. "Hey! Reckon we'd find an underwater cave? An underwater BATCAVE!''

How exciting that would be!

Took him long enough?!

Benny pushed the water in front of him towards Adi as if trying to splash his other half but it hadn’t the effect underwater as it would have had they been at the water’s surface. He settled for smacking him with his tail and playfully wrinkling his nose as the griff stuck out his tongue. “Right…it would be like telling you not to breathe,” he teased with a laugh. This not worrying about swallowing water underwater was really great!

He nodded in agreement as he continued to swim. There was a lot of space underwater, more than they could have been fully aware of from their view on the shore. It looked like the edge didn’t just go down and out but sometimes dipped beneath the coastline. “All creatures love me…” the dragon pointed out, sticking out his own tongue. So why wouldn’t the fishes love him like every other one of them? As for the mention of caves, his attention was brought back to his side where they passed along the coast. “Maybe…” he said, shifting his swimming to get a little closer.

Adi laughed. Benny was being funny. Didn't he realise that splashing him wouldn't work? It was definitely adorable though. Even the tail smack and the nose wrinkle which made him laugh even more. "You know me so well, babe. And I see you're mastering that tail of yours. I'd better be on the look out for more tail slaps.''

"Uh huh. I always got to share you with the creatures.'' Adi pretended to be grumpy about it. The underwater view was certainly something though. Who knew it was so vast? It just made him fall in love with the property that he and Benny had chosen even more. "Is that disapproval I hear in your voice?'' he teased. The hubby did know just how much of a fan he was of Batman...

He did know his hubby so well. Just as he knew that Adi always had a fascination with his tail whenever he had one. It was just one of those peculiarities and why the dragon made a point to play around with it and his other half. That and it was eliciting just laughter. “So it seems I have…” Benny agreed, “And so you should,” he teased with a smirk as he flicked his tail in the griff’s direction once more. Take that my dear Adi!

Benny couldn’t help a raised eyebrow at Adi’s disappointed tone, the merman chancing a glance back as he slowed his swimming. “And I you...” He wasn’t the only creature lover, not to mention the fact that his husband was one of the most popular if not the MOST popular person he had ever met. “So don’t make me tickle you,” he playfully threatened to keep it light. “No…of course not. Batman must have his cave.”

Benny was obviously enjoying this a lot which was fine with Adi. Tails were cool or whenever the other half had one, that was. "Showoff,'' he teased and stuck his tongue out. But in actuality, he wasn't even jealous. Why should he be? Instead he found himself laughing again when he was flicked with the tail. "Maybe the fish-dragon needs to teach me.''

Adi waved a dismissive hand. "At least you didn't struggle with jealousy that much.'' That was a thing of the past now and he was relieved about it. The guy gasped. "You wouldn't!'' Tickles were always SUCH a distraction! "And a Batmobile,'' was the next answer, accompanied with a nod. "I reckon we could keep swimming for miles and this wouldn't end.''

Swimming had ceased, his movements simple to keep himself from drifting aimlessly as they teased each other. Ohhhh… he was so tempted to swim in closer and pay Adi back for the stuck out tongue. “He just might have to. Just so you can continue to keep up, oh Griff-Merman.” It was Benny’s turn to laugh at the gasp from the other merman, the dragon biting his cheek to keep from letting his amusement from getting too out of control. “I sooooo would.” Let’s see how Adi’s scales reacted to his playful fingers.

“And Batmobile,” he echoed in acceptance. As long as Adi didn’t expect any super crazy joyrides. His attention returning to their surroundings for a moment, he considered the notion. “I suppose. It does seem to be quite lengthy.” Benny actually wasn’t really sure at what point they actually were in relationship to their home and property. “I do think the potion will eventually wear off before then though.”

Did either of them have any clue how long they had been down here?

For a moment, Adi had actually forgotten they were supposed to be exploring; he was that caught up int he playful banter. "Yeah? Why don't you swim on ahead and I'll show you just how much I've already learnt by watching you.'' He swatted at Benny's hand with a playful huff. "I'll show you.'' Hehe.

Thoughts of a Batcave and Batmobile were put out of his mind for a little while he surveyed the place again. "Yeah. Great place for more underwater adventures.'' For sure she would want to come exploring further another day because the hubby was right. The potion could wear off at anytime. "Let's go back. Now's my time to show you just how good I've gotten in such a short time! Go on, babe, I'll catch up.''

It seemed like for all their stopping their race with no declared winner, there was still more than a touch of competitiveness in the air…eh…water. “Someone’s getting full of himself and his abilities,” Benny remarked, continuing the playfulness between them. The swat at his hand not going unnoticed. But he’d keep the tickling for a better moment, maybe when Adi was less likely to be expecting it. “Well if the student feels up to it,” he added, giving into the challenge leaving out the comment of Adi having to eat his dust given he could just wind up beating him again.

They did need to start getting back into me.

The dragon, for one, had no desire to start changing back and wind up being too far from home. Though they would certainly need to revisit their current local. Perhaps this was one version of the potion Benny was willing to repeat time and again. Shuu…don’t tell his husband! Speaking of which, he had some leading to do. “As you wish…” the dragon-merman said, flipping head over tail as he righted himself in the right direction and took off back the way they had come. His fins flicking as he moved to and fro.

Adi eyed Benny. He always adored the hubby for putting up with the playfulness and not getting annoyed by it. "Might need to air down my head before I float out of the water,'' he stated with a bat of his lashes. Snort. Benny knew he was always up for anything especially if it happened to be competitive.

It was certainly a good thing they decided to head back when they did for it was almost when Adi hit shore that the fin started to go. Which was cool by him because they could always do this again. He plopped himself down on the shore and waited for Benny to join him.

Benny eyed Adi right back. Yes, dear Griff of mine? “I’ll be sure to do that if I notice it getting too bad,” he said with a laugh. Gotta keep the hubby in check there, especially when floating away was a danger. People get suspicious when spouses disappeared all of a sudden.

He had lost speed as he headed back, his adrenaline from the exploring and racing starting to wane and his muscles feeling it. It didn’t help that the potion did in fact seem to be ready to wear if it hadn’t already begun. So it wasn’t too much of a surprise as Adi pulled ahead but the dragon did his best keep from getting too far behind, finally pulling himself back up on the beach.

“Might need to mark this place underwater…” he mused once his human voice returned. His tail and scales very much halfway gone. Benny had almost lost track of where they had jumped on so it was certainly a good safety measure for their continued exploration.

And Adi was back to normal completely just as Benny returned. "Yep. We could always come exploring again another time. That might take days, actually.'' Their property was bigger than he had initially thought but that was a good thing. That meant that he and Benny had more to do when they wanted to take a break from the griffs and dragons.

"That was fun!'' he told Benny enthusiastically. "And I think my head is back to normal.'' He laughed and shook his head to get water out of his dark hair. In the process some of the said water may have sprinkled on the bestie-hubby. "Ready to eat when you are, babe.'' Because who could forget about food?

Yeah, he was certainly up for more exploring, curiosity tended to be a Gryffindor trait he held onto. "Oh I would say so." More than days even. It appeared they might have gotten more adventure then they had thought when choosing their home. Benny could almost imagine what it might be like when it wasn't just him and Adi. His mind wandering a little as he stretched out his legs now that they were back and to separate entities.

"Hmm...?" The dragon mused at first before being brought back to the present by the splashing of water on him. He blinked in surprise before nodding as he registered what was said as . "Yeah, it was," Benny agreed, shifting further up the sand. "And good for your head...lest you have trouble eating because of it," he added with jest, moving to retrieve stuff from their lunch stash.

Now they could get to the food, now that his head was back to normal

"So, what did you pack? Lots of chicken?'' Because was life! He waited patiently for the hubby to unpack the food but was quite at the ready to help. Okay, he was still fixing his hair so he was distracted at the moment. The warm weather would be enough to dry it naturally.

"Going to feed me too?'' he asked flirtily. You know... just because they were married didn't mean that Adi would stop flirting with Benny. It kept their relationship interesting as ever. And if Benny was going to feed him, he'd needed to be fed A LOT. He was super hungry!

Benny proceeded to empty out the basket, putting it all on the blanket which had been the first thing out. Thank Merlin for shrinking charms. “Oh darn,” he exclaimed looking upset, nearly stumbling as he finally noticed Adi fiddling with his damp hair. Focus there, Dragon. “I knew there was something I forgot.” He shook his head in sad despair for a few moments trying not to laugh. Of course he hadn’t really forgotten, he was well-trained to make sure chicken was a staple in their household, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t have a little fun.

A little fun the hubby was trying to share with his flirting.

He raised an eyebrow at the question on feeding Adi, his face turning thoughtful instead of sad as if debating the idea. “I suppose I can…” Benny mused, purposefully opening up a container and reaching to pull something from inside. “If I’m forgiven for my chicken oversight.” Cue raising of the piece of fried chicken he now held.

Still fidgeting with his hair, Adi failed to observe the effect he had on Benny. His attention was only on one fact right about then: NO CHICKEN

No way! Benny did not forget about that! He started pouting like a spoilt child. Of course he really wasn't mad or anything at the bestie-hubby.

"You'd better feed me as making up for forgetting the-''

... oh.

Benny was just joking with him!

The guy broke into a grin. "You fooled me there. Sure, I might be able to forgive you.'' He stuck his tongue out then leaned in to grab a bite.

There was a pout, Adi clearly disappointed in his forgetfulness. The horror of no chicken for the meal! Baaaaad…very bad Dragon. Benny couldn’t help the bemusement that crossed his face, especially as it seemed his other half actually believed that he had forgotten the prized poultry in their picnic lunch, having the bite back a laugh of his own in response. But look…the breaking off, the frown turned upside down…the husband had figured it out, catching sight of what he currently held in his hand.

“It seems I did…” he replied in agreement with a nod. Finally giving in to a chuckle as he was greeted with a stuck-out tongue before Adi went to bite the offered food. “Oh you wouldn’t NOT forgive your dear darling husband and food provider…would you?” Benny asked, keeping hold of the chicken to obey in feeding him but moving it closer so his other half didn’t have to struggle in his bites.

Mhmm!

It was delicious as always. Because chicken was yummy but most of all, Benny made great food. Adi happily chewed and swallowed, marvelling that the other man had managed to trick him. Almost. "Hmmm.'' He pretended to consider. "I just might be able to forgive you after all.''

And without hesitation, he took another bite. "You need to eat too,'' Adi reminded Benny. "Got to get back to your babies.'' By 'babies', he meant dragons. And him, he could go for a nap afterwards actually but the griffs beckon.

Benny watched Adi as he ate as if anxiously awaiting a response from the other man about his forgiveness or lack thereof. Not that he had any reason to be concerned. Besides it was relatively tame for a trick to play on his other half, specially given some of the doozeys the badger had managed to pull over on him over the many years.

“Oh I will eat…” he assured him, setting down the container and taking his own piece of chicken. “I do have two hands after all.” And with that he proceeded to start on his own lunch. “And then we’ll both get back to our babies.” Back settled above the waves they could certainly be heard coming from their respective paddocks, hippogriffs and dragons alike. Ah, the lovely sound of the creatures! It just meant home.
