A Lion and a Badger

Benadi...

Two best friends, first real close during school and now inseparable as they start the rest of their lives together.
Benjamin Atreyu and Aditya Rehman are now on their own outside the normalcy and safety of the walls of Hogwarts.
Wizarding University and the great wide world await the boyfriends as they explore what its like to really be adults in the wizarding and muggle worlds.

Locations
Benadi Apartment: Two bedroom apartment in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Their first very own home close to school.

Cassiopeia's Cafe: A friendly cafe owned by Benny's mother

Rehman House: The childhood home of Adi, home of Saieed and Indira Rehman

Wizarding University: Edinburgh Campus of the school, where Benny and Adi take classes towards their degrees.

Scene 1 : Cassiopeia's Cafe

Ben's mom's cafe was chosen as the location for the ritual meeting of the families. Aka the first full Atreyu-Rehman get-together. The one where the boys tell their loved ones the truth about their relationship and see just how they react.

Hey, there was a bit of sweat in his palms. How long had that been there? Adi had not noticed it until now. Ah well. He wiped his palms against his jeans. There! All better! If only his nerves would leave him alone. GOSH.

He sat down before the piano and at the same moment, noted that Benny was watching him. Adi grinned then shook his head. "I figured I'd serenade you a bit. I don't think I've played you anything for a while.'' He began to randomly test the keys, testing the piano. This didn't need to be done since he always kept the piano well tuned. It was more out of habit that he did this.

The compliment made the guy grin. "Thanks but you're the best boyfriend! And the best bestie.'' He continued to play, trying to decide which song he should start with first. "You deserve something else... another present.'' He wiggled his brows.

Benny caught Adi’s gaze when the other apparently noticed he was looking at him, blue eyes meeting brown across the living room. Serenade him? “Ah…an added bonus…” he mused having always enjoyed his other half’s voice. The hippogriff was the musical one in the relationship, even if Adi loved getting him to sing with spells. “It has been awhile,” the dragon agreed as random keys were pressed seemingly being warmed up in the process. But then university had a way of keeping them quite busy without the fact that Adi was working on a double major.

“You’re welcome…but I believe you are mistaken.” And if left to dwell on it, they would likely go back on forth all night on the matter. Which given the offer of another present, and what Benny would very much like for that present to be, he wouldn’t want to waste his time on such a petty matter. His eyebrow raised as Adi waggled his own making the former Gryffindor quite curious. “The serenade will do nicely then.” His head rested on his hand and he leaned his elbow on the arm of the couch.

Adi grinned again. Yeah, it had been a while since he had played for Benny. It was certainly a good time to do so. And then he was shaking his head. This little disagreement could go on forever, with both of them unwilling to back down. Then again... "Since it's your birthday, I'll let you have that win for today.'' Wasn't the dragon getting so spoilt?

He gazed down at the keys now. Since he was focusing even more on the notes, Adi could feel himself getting less nervous and then just like that... the nerves were gone! The usual confident Aditya Rehman was back! Closing his eyes briefly, he let the music take over him before opening them again and looking over at his boyfriend again.

''It's in the stars and you're my everything from here to Mars and every word I say I truly mean. Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear cause there's no one like you on Earth that can be my universe.''

He didn't intend on singing full songs but a medley of a few. Mhmm!

The perks of having a birthday it seemed. “Oh goodie…” he mused with a smirk as Adi gave in and let him have the win in his opinion. The former badger WAS the top boyfriend and friend no matter what anybody including said badger claimed. And if anyone asked for the information, he couldn't even list all the good things that had happened in his life since meeting his other half that fateful September 1st their second year of school.

His years at Hogwarts surely would have been a LOT different without him.

Benny broke with Adi’s gaze as the latter focused on his playing but he still watched what the other man was doing. The dragon absently using his wand to light a couple of candles as the dusk deepened. He sighed soft and contently as the music drifted into song and Adi’s voice was added into the mix. A smile graced his face once more as he let it all roll over him, his eyelids lowering slightly as he played the loving audience.

Was Benny enjoying the song? Had he- Adi- chosen the right one? No matter... he had one or two more to play. He could surely say one thing for sure and that was of his musical abilities. He had loved music from since he was a kid so he had had more than enough time to practice. Speaking of that... he wanted to move right onto that song he had practiced as much as he could whenever Benny was not at home.

Eyes still on the boyfriend, he didn't miss the reactions which told him that the music was being enjoyed. It was the perfect time to switch things up. Adi looked down at the keys as he started playing the notes for the next song then back up at Benny.

''Wherever you go, I'll follow. Don't worry about tomorrow, I will be in your shadow, walking right beside you everyday. I'll be the one to save ya. When I put my pen to paper, feels like it brings us closer even when you're so far away. Bullet trains and aeroplanes, I can choose the easy way so I'll send a signal just for you...''

Despite not being musical, he still noticed the change in the tune and the switch to the next song. Apparently the serenade was a full arrangement of songs. It was also during this downtime that Benny became aware of a sound other than piano playing coming from the area of the window. The tippity tap of Conrad when one had forgotten to leave a window open for the owl to return for the evening. Oops. He eased himself up to his feet, still attentively listening to Adi singing and playing as he quietly moved to open the window for his familiar hoping to not disturb his boyfriend.

And even as Conrad flew in and settled on his perch in the corner, Benny continued to stand by the open window. His body absently swaying on his feet with the flow of the musical notes floating from piano to air as his gaze starred out into the night sky enjoying the moments. His arms loosely crossed over his body, avoiding the urge to hum softly with the music.

Could it get any better than this?

Adi was very happy about the way things were going and he could feel the excitement creeping over him. He just wanted to propose already! Yeah, yeah, he knew he must be patient. He watched Benny move towards the window, barely noticing Conrad swoop in. Was it just him or did Benny look super handsome tonight. Nah, it just wasn't him for sure.

''You will never be lonely, just relax and listen to me. I breathe the air that you breathe. I am always with you in disguise. Bullet trains and aeroplanes, I can choose the easy way so I'll send a signal just for you.''

Adi continued playing, smiling to himself as he continued to watch Benny. Yep, his man was enjoying this. He was about to enjoy it some more.

''My love goes out of my heart and into the wind, out my guitar and under your skin, into your house and out of your headphones. My love goes out of your door and into the street, down through the floor and up through your feet, into your car and out of your radio. That's where my love goes.''

Adi ended his singing there. It was time! He moved towards Benny, pulling the ring from his pocket as he did so. Without hesitation, he sank to one knee. "Benny?'' Your attention was needed here, boyfriend!

Benny either wasn’t aware he was swaying or really didn’t care. He was leaning towards the latter. Too bad Adi was playing the music lest they could have tried dancing together. How had they never really danced together before? Well, besides it being more than a little awkward with two guys whose only experiences dancing were being the ones to lead. The Gryffindor just shook his head and continued listening to the lovely voice of his boyfriend in the background. The important thing.

The enjoyable thing.

He registered the song’s end a few seconds after it did on a slight delay, vaguely aware of Adi moving behind him. The dragon half-expecting to feel arms come around him from behind as his other half was known to do at times so he stayed in place. “Hmm…?” he questioned as he slowly moved to turn around to face Adi. However, what he saw before him was definitely not what he expected, his blue eyes widening and hands raising to cover his mouth in surprise.

Wha…what was happening here?

Well he knew what was happening…at least pretty sure. His mind was just not connecting all the dots.

Forgot about any kind of speech or noise coming out of him.

Down on his knee with ring held out.

It was the moment of truth.

Adi watched Benny turn around... and he got the exact react he had expected. "Benny, will you marry me?'' Nope, he didn't have any speech planned. The songs had said it all, didn't they? Besides, Benny knew exactly how Adi felt about him.

But then... the potential fiance wasn't responding at all. Was the proposal too much of a shock or had he chosen the wrong moment to do this? Was he going to be REJECTED? Uh oh. Say something, dragon!

Five words…

Five words was all Adi said confirming that yes, this was in fact a proposal. An Adi on his knees with a ring box held out between them. Benny kept glancing quickly between it and his boyfriend. Or was it fiancé? Well no…technically he had to say something…anything positive…for him to be affianced to his other half.

Had it gotten hot in here? And when had his heartbeat gotten so loud?

“I…um…” Benny struggled to find his power of speech as he slowly lowered his hands from his face. Closing his eyes and taking a few deep breathes, he tried to calm himself down. He could do this. It wasn’t like they had never talked marriage before, and their future. Finally, he found himself slowly sinking to his own knees in front of Adi, eyes open once more as he settled his gaze on Adi’s face. Another deep breath, his hands moving to encircle both the hippogriff’s hands and the box before slowly nodding.

“Yes…” he answered softly before repeating more secure in his words, ‘Yes I will marry you, Adi.”

Could he cry now?

“I…um…”

Gosh. That sounded BAD. It sounded as though Benny's response was going to be a negative one. He watched his boyfriend closely AND HOPEFULLY. He observed all the reactions, sure that he was going to remember each of them despite whatever the outcome would be. His eyes followed Benny as Benny too got to his knees. He felt the hands on his then heard the word.

BENNY SAID YES!

Grinning happily (and feeling very much relieved), he gently slipped his hands from Benny to place the ring he and Lux had picked out onto the appropriate finger.

The tears were thankfully held at bay, lest his vision be distorted from the whole experience. That didn’t mean his eyes weren’t moist, Benny sure couldn’t hide he was emotional. Though one look at the grin plastered on Adi’s face told him the feeling was mutual, if not expressed the exact same way. He smiled back lovingly at his other half, his heart beat gradually lowering from its elevated state.

He looked back down at the box and his hand as he felt Adi take it and slip the metal around his ring finger. A blush creeping softly across the pale skin of his cheek at the experience. But the dragon couldn’t help chuckling as he finally took in the design which helped to relax him into the moment. “Only you could find so fitting a ring.”Really…a dragon-eyed ring that had metal ‘talons’ and ‘scales’?

Pretty much fit him to a T.

Even before one took in the fact that it literally fit his finger like a glove.

Did Benny want to cry? Adi thought so. He could see this much as kept his eyes on him as the ring was slipped on. But he himself couldn't stop grinning. Gosh, this was one of the best days of his life! As for the ring, it fit perfectly! Of course it did... didn't he know his now fiance well? "Lux helped me pick it out. I'm glad you like it.'' There had been other dragon themed rings but he had felt this one was the best.

Adi raised both hands to Benny's cheeks, cupping his face in the process. "I love you so much, dragon.'' The guy thought that he loved Benny a little more with each passing day. Mhmm! He pressed his lips to the other's. There couldn't be a proposal and an acceptance without a kiss.

Benny blinked back the tear or two that escaped as his hands were otherwise occupied but he wasn’t complaining. This day…this moment…was too good to feel like anything was bad in the grand scheme of things. Lux had helped him pick it out? Well he supposed she was the closest thing to a bet man as Adu’s female best friend. “Well you two did good work” he mused with smile. “I like it very much,” he added, giving the hand that momentarily held his a light squeeze.

But then Adi was moving his hands soon to rest them on his cheeks and as Adi cupped his face, he couldn’t help leaning lightly into his hold. “And I love you…so very much too, hippogriff,” he got out as another tear fell and his other half connected their lips. Benny kissed back without delay, his eyes closing as he enjoyed the feeling of warm and love that came with and his arms circling up behind Adi's head.

Now it really couldn’t get any better.

Four years...

It had been four years since he had managed to get up the nerve to express his then-uncertain feelings to Adi the Christmas of their seventh year. Four years since they had changed from best friends to boyfriends. And looking back on this their anniversary, Benny was oh so glad he had, especially as his fingers absently played with the ring on his left hand. Now they were fiances. Two fiances celebrating THEIR day as many people celebrated the winter holiday it just happened to coincide with. Not like a certain former Gryffindor had planned that day in particular when he first laid his heart on the line.

"Some luck we ran into..." Benny mused as they entered the fun park after paying their admission. When one was used to restrictions over certain holidays, it had been a surprise to find that the place where they certainly resided in existed. A place to enjoy the day having fun with each other on rides and such that wasn't closed for Christmas. In fact, Benny noted, given the random crowds of people interspersed around them, it seemed to thrive because of that fact.

Not that they cared about the others. Or at least he himself didn't. This day was for just them.

Life was beautiful.

Even if it was cold LOL Not that Adi cared. He loved the winter time. Plus he was all bundled up and so was Benny. He pushed his glasses further up the bridge of his nose, a habit he'd acquired since Hogwarts. The guy then reached for his fiance's hand. "Lucky is right! Seeing as I couldn't think of the perfect thing to get you for our anniversary, I figured you'd like to have some fun.'' He grinned.

"So, what do you think of my surprise, babe? And what would you want to do first?'' Ehem. Excuse Adi. He was just SUPER excited and happy.

Why happy?

Because he and Benny had made it to four years together as a couple

Benny let Adi take his gloved hand, briefly glancing at him as he surveyed their surroundings. "I love it..." he remarked with a smile. Something a little different from their usual norm yet not something entirely out of his comfort zone. "Certainly works..." he mused, though it wasn't as if he cared all that much about presents much less Adi getting him the PERFECT one. That wasn't to say Adi's wasn't still wrapped up safe and sound at home to be unwrapped after the first round of fun.

As for what he wanted to do first...

"Um..." the dragon let out, once more looking around to see what offerings were right before them. "How about...games first," he suggested. "Work our way up to the rides." No, he wasn't chickening out, he just didn't want to burn out quickly. Plenty of time for everything. "And of course food at some point," Benny added, knowing that was a given. Food, especially carnival food was happening.

Adi grinned. Yay! Benny had loved his idea! Mission complete. Sure, they’d been together for a while as a couple but that didn’t mean that he had to stop being romantic and cease giving Benny surprises. Nah, that just wasn’t him. His dragon always deserved the best of everything. He happily and lightly swung their joined hands as he waited patiently for the boyfriend to make up his mind.

“Sounds good!’’ Adi would be fine with whatever Benny chose anyway. “I want to win lots of prizes!’’ Okay, so maybe his childish side- which he had never let go of- was showing a whole lot. But who cared? “Let’s try that hit the cans game.’’ Or whatever it was called. He pointed to the game closest to them where kids and adults were trying to knock over a stack of pop cans with a ball. “Bet I can get them all in one go!’’ Cue the tug on Benny’s hand for them to get going.

Benny was mildly aware of the swinging, smiling in response as his limb easily moved with Adi's as if the hippogriff controlled the side of him that was connected to him. But then he was quite used to that...moving with his companion like two peas in a pod. He and his body didn't it without much thought in the matter. Adi was just lucky, he wasn't minding being so lovey dovey in public. That first year...and even their second year together he had been the most shy about their relationship.

He couldn't help chuckling at the tug and bet. "Suuurrre you can..." he mused with a touch of jest, taking the bet. They'd see who was the better aim at this. Benny got the man running the booth to set up for the both of them to try their luck at the game. There was a pile for each of them with 4 bottles stacked up in a pyramid a short distance away, three balls placed in front of them to use. He just hoped his aim from Quidditch wasn't too rusty.

"On the count of three," he said, picking up a ball and waiting for Adi to do the same. "One...two...three!" The dragon took aim and threw.

Adi laughed. Leave it to Benny to tease him. "I'll show you! And the prize that I win won't be for you.'' Hehe. That, of course, was just more teasing. As he waited for the dude in charge of the game to get things set up, he looked around at all the prizes. Stuffed toys, jewelry and a bunch of other stuff.

What would he win for Benny? Hmmm...

"Yep! Let's do this!'' Adi grabbed a ball. His aim was really good. That's part of what made him so good as a Gobstones player and a bowler in cricket. He pulled his hand back close to the side of his face, aimed and let the ball go in a throw.

CLANGCLANG!

The cans went tumbling down. ALL of them!

"Told you, babe!''

Benny stuck out his tongue at the mention of the toy not being his. He could win his own thank you. Though at least this first time he couldn't, his aim coming off a little high and hitting the top one off which wobbled the rest but only enough to get one more down. So Adi had gotten it just as he had said. "Guess this us why you're the pro..." he mused, his head tilted as if to analyse what had happened to make it go south. Or at least ways to improve his throw the next time around.

Maybe he was a little rusty. But it was all in good fun anyway so the dragon had no hard feelings about it.

Plus they had three shots per game."Can you do two for two?" he asked, picking up the second ball of the lot as the bottles were reset. The former Gryffindor straightening up from his observing, casually tossing the ball in his grasp up in the air and catching it. Would the hippogriff's luck or skill hold out? Would he himself have better luck the second time around? Only time would tell at this game.

"I am,'' Adi stated happily and trying to keep any modesty out of his voice just for the fun of it. "See, now you've gone and swollen my head.'' Laughing, he urged Benny on. "Awh, too bad. Maybe next time? And can you tell me which prize you want?'' The plan for tonight? To win a ton of games and collect a ton of prizes for the fiance.

Even if Adi had told him that none of the prizes would be his.

Ooh! A challenge! He loved those especially when Benny challenged him. "Sure I can,'' he stated with great confidence. He snagged another ball. "Watch how it's done, babe.'' The guy prepped himself just as he had before. The ball flew towards the cans but somehow only managed to hit the top one. "Erm... There was a slight wind?''

When all fails, blame it on something else

Benny raised a slight eyebrow as Adi responded to his musing, trying to decipher the tone before looking bemused as the talk turned to swelled heads. "I'll just have to pop it later," he remarked with a chuckle and a casual shake of his head. As for his own efforts, he meerly shrugged. But he wasn't going to just give up either. "Surprise me," the dragon mused at the mention of prizes, the various options all hung up and displayed and he didn't know where to start.

Onto his challenge, he held back from going to do as Adi asked...watch him to see how it was done. "Okay...I'm watching." Arms casually crossed over his chest. However when the fiance had the same luck he had had on his first throw, Benny had to hide his laughter behind a raised hand at the amusing turn of events. "Sure..sure..." he remarked as he took his own stance once more "...let's see if the wind effects me."

One...two...three...throw!

The ball sailed lower than it had the previous throw but still not central enough in the stack. One side tipped over causing the top to follow suit but the other two remained standing once more after wobbling a bit. "At least I'm consistant...I guess," he mused. Two out of four both times.

"Sounds like loads of fun,'' he said, his lips forming a smirk. His facial expression changed into a mischievous one. Adi could think of other things they could do too but why distract Benny with that right now? "Alrightey! I'll take a stuffed... kangaroo!'' He was just ever so casually expanding the group of stuffed animals he was always gifting Benny. Only this time he was moving away from the dragons.

Adi hugged the kangaroo he had just collected from the guy in charge of the game. "A certain dragon had better behave himself because I won't be giving him this prize. I can see him laughing at me behind his hand.'' Mhmm! Because Benny's face was half covered by said hand but Adi figured he was trying to cover a laugh. It didn't quite work, fiance.

And so Adi watched. "Awh! Too bad. That Beater arm needs more practice.'' Oh yeah... "Do you need a good luck kiss?" Ehehe.

Now that smirk that grew on Adi's face spoke of mischievousness in the works. Or at least later on when he popped the hippogriff's head. Benny did his best not to react and encourage his fiance more than he might have already done. He did absently take note of his choice of prize and the hug it received. Interesting...the dragon vaguely reminded of an instance between them involving a Kangaroo...of sorts.

He was back to eyeing his other half as Adi loosely threatened him, or rather the certain dragon that represented him in this case. "You would tease and be mean to the certain dragon?" Benny mused after dropping his hand from his face. His laughter just barely contained on his face in his attempt to at least pretend he was behaving in response to him. "He's totally innocent."

Totally innocent and an out-of-practice quidditch player. Though he still had an adoring fan. "Maybe just one..." Benny answered sweetly, turning his face and presenting his cheek to Adi.
