2086 SUMMER FIELD TRIP
Sponsored by Hogwarts Board of Governors

The sponsored trip is a weeklong exploration and uncovering of the mysteries of our own backyard. Join us at a loch in the Scottish highlands for an exciting adventure/summer field trip. Do you have what it takes to uncover the potential secrets hidden beneath the surface of a loch, together with some of the school staff and your student peers? If you feel daring, excited to explore, or just eager to spend a week with your friends, you should sign up for what will hopefully be a fun, action-packed summer trip.

Hady stuck by Zeke's side as the tour guide person spoke and then the Professor's began talking as well. She was more then ready to move on but she wasn't all that excited about having to leave her wand behind...really that wasn't very fair.

With a small sigh she kept her grip on her bestie's hand gently tugging him along with her so they wouldn't be separated. Cause well buddies and all that good junk. Yup she had one...since like the moment she spotted him that morning. Dropping her bag and stuff off with Mr. Kitridge and waiting for Zeke to do the same she then made her way to the other Professor's with a sideways glance at her friend. He was still doing alright, yeah?

Aha, off to the loch with the man, then, he supposed. The mention of Scotty by a girl brought him memories of those movies his sister watches, and Flamsteed probably knew which kind. It spoke of BEAMING someone up, nice gesture.

While Oleander wasn't feeling dizzy after the portkey or anything, he did took a chocolate bar, simply because you never know. Someone might get hungry, not that he would share it with that person, but still. It was great knowing someone, somewhere, had what you were looking for.

For one, he was following Thompson and the Scottish fellow. No, sorry, following was the wrong word, but partly fitting.

He was obviously keeping his wand with him, senior student and whatnot. Thanks for that.

She still hadn’t quite gotten over the sight of Professor Flamsteed throwing up, but then, Brooklyn hadn’t felt like doing the same. It was an accomplishment, that was for sure. She didn’t like portkeys, but she hadn’t fallen or gotten sick. It just showed how much better she was than some people, and anyway, Professor Thompson had gone over to the bush to help the Astronomy professor. He probably shouldn’t have eaten that space ice cream earlier. Not her job to say so, nor was it her job to comment on how obvious it was that Maggie was staring at the tour guide person. He wasn’t that interesting.

Finally, they seemed to be getting somewhere. Accent guy had talked about heading to the loch, and then Mr. Kitridge had given them even more direction. Considering her opinions on the tour guide were yet to be determined, aside from that he had an accent, she was much more inclined to listen to the librarian. Him and Ethan, who she’d edged nearer to as everyone had been directed to drop their bags by the librarian and then follow the guide to the loch. She’d stick with him and the Claw girl, thank you very much, and she’d keep her wand with her too. She knew the older Slytherin knew she was capable of using it, too, so arguments to the contrary weren’t going to be heard. She did leave her Game of Thrones backpack with Mr. Kitridge though. At least she knew she’d be able to find it later on. Then she trailed after Ethan and Josie, keeping them in sight.

Leo had just put down his own belongings on the ground when one of his own eagles: Abby Valentine came over to him complaining about being nauseous after the portkey ride. Did either of you want some chocolate before we go to the loch?"

Leo distributed some more chocolate to a few students that looked a little green in the face. He saved one chocolate bar in case Airey needed one later. It was never advisable to eat shortly before taking a port key. It rarely ended well. With the use of his wand Leo moved everyone’s luggage to their pre-agreed upon camp site. Making sure that the luggage was safe and secure with a few handy spells Leo made his way down after the trail of students to the loch.

While the Professor gave instructions on luggage, Scott lead the way forward. It wasn't by any means a difficult place to get to....not REALLY. It was a plain afterall. One did not get lost on a plain, you walked and walked until you hit the large body of water that was at the end of it. His job was telling them about the body of water at the end of said plain.

Did the trip seem a little longer today? It must have been his apprehension. Forgive the man for thinking a Common Welsh Green would zoom in out of nowhere and haul him off. It was a side effect of dealing with the accursed.

"Loch Ness is th' second biggest loch 'n Sco'land bu' it's th' largest loch if ye want t'be considerin' the depth." The man trudged on as he spoke until at last they were at the edge of the loch. "Best known fer it's resident th' Loch Ness Monster. An ole Muggle's tale I believe ye already know abou'." Surely they'd heard about it, even in passing.

"Ou'side 'o that, ye've got regular fishes an' plant life down at th' bottom 'o the loch." He paused, waiting for the stragglers to catch up before turning to face the lake, a wide smile on his face. "Does anyone know wha' the great beast looks like? How's abou' wha' it is?"

Angel had put her luggage with the Librarian after leaving her best friend for a few minutes, though she had a feeling someone was staring at her best friend maybe she should find out if Leah wanted a boyfriend or not because if she did she would find her one., "Mr Kitridge Sir." Angel looked at the Librarian. "I didn't like traveling by Portkey." Angel sighed.

Angel then listened to what the tour guide said as she went back over to her best friend. "It's supposed to be purple and really long with a dinosaur neck right?" Angel had heard of the tale, when she was in primary school and her and her friends were studying one. "Mr Tour Guide." Angel raised her hand, "Do you think I can talk to the Loch Ness Monster if we see it?" Angel thought that would be cool.

Simon had been quietly following along with the rest of the group, making sure to keep a wary eye on the little She-Snake hovering around Josie and his Holmes. Hmm... Yes, Simon's got his eye on you, missy. He tore himself away from those three from a minute to listen to their tour guide.

He blinked. Hold on a minute, what had he said? That accent was terribly difficult to understand. Accents weren't really his forté. He stared at his feet for a bit, trying to decipher the accent. It took him a while to translate what the man had said but then he looked up and nodded. Alright, he had been speaking about the Lake and the muggle story of Nessie. What did Nessie look like? The sixteen year old blinked his eyes again. Well, he actually had never thought of what the monster looked like. He tried to picture it in his mind: long neck like a Brachiosaurus, a body like a dolphin, and a tale like a whale. It would almost be the same colour as the water in the Lake.

Hmm....
His image of Nessie was quickly replaced in his mind with the one Angel was speaking about. Purple? Why on earth was it supposed to be purple? And what shade of purple was it supposed to be too? These were the important questions that Simon had in his mind.

Nodding his head slightly, he continued to try to regain that image of Nessie in his mind, but he couldn't replicate his original image of the Loch Ness Monster. So then he offered a thought too. "I think Nessie would be a creature that's sort of a mix between a brachiosaurus, and a dolphin," he said.

Norah raised her eyebrows so high they threatened to disappear under her curly fringe. Wooooah there. Hold the phone. Loch meant LAKE? She'd spent fourteen years and three ENTIRE months of her life thinking it was just part of a monster dude's name. Like Mr or something. Mr. Ness, Loch Ness, same thing really. Who even knew how monsters named themselves, anyways. Did their parents name them like her parents had named her? Maybe they got to name themselves. That'd be COOL and unfair 'cause if she got to name herself she sure wouldn't have chosen Norah.

She stood on her tiptoes and leaned around the student in front of her to get a better look at the lake. Loch. Whatever. The dude said there were fishies but she didn't seeeee any fishies. Norah inched to the side and squinted some more, then turned her squints over to the tour guide dude again because he said regular fish and plant life, which was very not nice, Mr. Scott Man, because plants and fish were SPECIAL, okay. All of them. Special. She was willing to bet he wouldn't like it if a fish called HIM not special.

The almost-fourth-year put a hand in the air and then brought it down again 'cause this wasn't school anymore, before saying, "I bet it isn't even that much more special than all the other fish and plants in there." SPECIAL, not regular. Was he taking notes? This was important stuff. "Just 'cause it's a monster doesn't mean it's better than all the other stuff, y'know. Why don't we talk about THE Loch Ness Fishy? I'd be pretty excited to see one of those. They're special too." She stopped squinting and grinned at him, 'cause it wasn't really his fault that he didn't know that. People weren't made to know everything. Except for Sophie Brown, anyways. She probably knew everything.

He kept watching to make sure Brynny was alright, “Nah, but remember I did this every other month since I was eight to visit my dad. It’s really a pain in the butt, but you get used to it.” He hated portkey’s but they were there now, so it was all good. You going to hang with us?”[/b] He looked between his girl dominated group, Hmmm he was always around the girls, Aegis eat your heart out. Though he seemed to sense some weirdness between his girlfriend and best friend, not sure what that was all about he did what any guy would do, ignored it.

Looking to Mr. Hair field trip dude, he was glad to hear that it was time to go. They needed a buddy? Were they five? Grabbing the girlfriend’s hand he had his buddy, sorry Emmy. He pulled out his wand, though he really didn’t think they’d need it and was ready. He could use to it cut out some potion ingredients along the way. Yes, this was the important stuff in life.

He couldn’t help but put his hand up, though it wasn’t to tell what the beast looked like, he really didn’t care about that. “What type of plant life can we find at the bottom and can we take any pieces of the plants while we’re down there?” Maybe he’d even take extra for Cossy. His potion supplies were going to be great when he got back.

Really? They were going to be learning about the Loch Ness Monster? Caleb had JUST taken an OWL on this! SCORE! He could totally participate in this...but the real question, of course, was were they actually going to SEE it? That was the important bit?

"It's a kelpie, isn't it? Muggles think it's some dirty great dinosaur or something...but really, it's just a big kelpie," he explained. Everyone knew that...didn't they??

With a gentle yet still firm grip Hady remained holding onto Zeke's hand, it just felt right okay? Nothing was really said between the two as she made the long walk towards the water following their Professors and the tour guide guy person. The silence didn't bother her one bit, though every so often she'd give a side-ways glance to the young boy at her side followed by a soft smile or a grin.

Reaching the water the young brunette stopped close enough to it to peer down into it. All she saw was water from where she was stood...obviously though there was more she couldn't see. At least that's what the tour guide was telling them. When it came to the Loch Ness Monster thing she didn't really know..yeah she heard all the stories growing up and most claimed them to be fiction but who was really to say it wasn't real? In the magical world Hady didn't write off anything being made up anymore unless proof was given to her and even then she might just still question it.

Following the group, Airey hung towards the back and just stood their listening for now. But he TOTALLY knew the answer to this now - unlike his school days. He was tempted to raise his hand, actually, but refrained.

Annnnd they were off! Leaving Mr Kitridge with all the bags and what not, Adi followed the tour guide, listening to him enlighten them about the Loch Ness. Fascinating stuff, really but then the man asked the question about what the monster looked like.

"Like Caleb said, it's a Kelpie. The world's largest one, I think.'' It liked to take the form of a Sea Serpent if he remembered correctly but someone else could volunteer that bit of information. Shape shifters... those were so cool!

So, after leaving her stuff with Mr. Kitridge, Heather followed the group towards.....the lake she guessed....? Yeah, she really couldn't understand the guy's accent still. But he must have asked some kind of question, lesson style, because others were throwing out answers. Seriously, how were people understanding this guy? Yes, they were in Scotland and yes, she spent a good portion of the year here at Hogwarts, but none of the professors there had accents that bad. Where had they found this guy? Also, did he realize how hard to understand his accent was?

Needless to say, she didn't have an answer.

Chloe hadn't felt dizzy or anything after the portkey; probably due to her quidditch blood that she could handle intense motion spinning. Though nonetheless, she may have taken a cue from Oleander and taken a chocolate bar anyway just because. And if she devoured hers too early on then she'd steal some of Ollie's too when he got around to eating his.

Wand at the ready, because their chaperones had suggested it and because she could being one of the "senior students", the ginger adjusted her backpack as she followed towards the meeting place where they met up with their tour guide. Cute. But hard to understand.

Giant beast. Hellooooooooooooo ... did it LOOK like she knew water creatures? She barely scraped that acceptable on her magical creatures exam. Well thank merlin some of her peers paid attention.

Kelpie.

"How do they remember this stuff when not in school?" Chloe whispered, shaking her head. Geniuses they were, CLEARLY.

Like Chloe, Hayley wasn't bothered much by the portkey travel. A little dizzy at first and caught off balance, the fifteen-year-old was quick to regain gather herself before trailing after her redheaded best friend. Grey-blue eyes wandered their surroundings, as she absently dropped off her backpack and accepted a chocolate bar as her own Head of House instructed.

Making sure her wand was still on her, since she was allowed to carry it - being a 'senior student' now and all, Hayley tucked it away and quickened her pace to walk beside Chloe and Oleander instead of behind them, quiet as ever the whole time.

She was gazing around, taking in the scenery, head in the clouds even while she tried to focus on her professors and the tour guide talking. Still. It was hard to focus, with so much on her mind.

Abby couldn't believe that she was away from home and she didnt know that many other people on the trip but she hoped that she would get to know them soon

Cue the raised eyebrow as his bestie was pointing at Ben while Adi spoke to the other boy. What did he have to do wi---oh. The hufflepuff was playing on the mascot of his house in reference to lions around. "Hi," he said as Adi offhandly introduced him to the other...Henric as he caught the boy's name. But he still had obviously missed something as Adi leaned off his shoulder laughing for a bit.

That was his best friend for you.

But then Henric was introducing himself properly."Nice to met you," Benny returned with a nod of his own. "Its Ben....or Benny," he corrected politely, trying not to laugh at the thought of someone considering his name Bestie. However the mention of dragons caught his attention more and he perked up. Loch Ness creature was one thing...but the Gryffindor wouldn't mind a dragon to be seen in the mix.

Oh...a younger Ravenclaw was joining them. Their little group spreading out. Benny left Henric do the inviting but that didn't mean he was going to ignore the other boy when he actually walked closer to them to tag along. "Hey," he greeted simply as was his normal way. The sixth year was opting for quiet self for now.

And they were off.

Benny did as the librarian instructed, leaving his bag with Mr. Kitridge so he could move on unencombered. Made the 'step lively' instructions of their Scottish guide far more doable even though it hadn't really been a burden. Just one less thing to be concerned about as he moved along the path with the others. His wand secure in his pocket if needed since he counted as one of the senior students.

Yeah...he was a sixth year.

As for the question directed their way, the Gryffindor simply listened and paid attention to what was being said around him by Adi and the others. It was sometimes more fun that way when he could look around so he could listen and observe.

Yeah, so Kate was starting to feel so cool about this whole field trip thing UNTIL she realized everybody had somebody else to talk to but her. Yeah. Not so cool. She really should go find somebody she knew and strike up a conversation.

Hady! There was Hady...and Zeke, too!

Kate picked up her step until she was walking by Hady's side. That was when she noticed Hady and Zeke were holding hands! So cool that somebody near her age had their very own boyfriend, but...now Kate felt like a third wheel. You know, that term you use to refer to yourself when two's company and three seems like a crowd?

Ugh.

Kate just followed Hady's gaze into the water in front of them. They were supposed to be thinking about what the great beast in the water might look like, but really...Kate just wanted to do something fun like swim or build a gigantic sand castle.

Henric had mistaken Benny's name,thanks to Adi."Oh...I'm sorry,"he apologised,"I thought your name was-" he should probably stopped embarrassing himself further now."Right...nice to meet you,Benny."

He nodded a liitle too enthusiastically towards Adi,"Yeah,dragons...I hope to meet one someday, wouldn't it be cool if we get to see one right here!" he continued,"Treasures? Narh...it couldn't be there still right,Adi? They're probably been looted off already by the muggles themselves...so I don't think there are anymore treasures left unless the dragons took them and hid them someplace else?" Henric was struck by the idea, he loved all the dragon talk. Maybe someday, he would become a dragonologist too but he doubt he could make it that far.

Henric grinned,sniggering evilly inside his head when he offered to give his last of his ton-tongue toffees to Adi.But he decided to save it for later, who knows he might need it."Narh sorry...I don't have that flavour, maybe later when we reached our destination,alright?"he implied.
Henric chuckled with Adi," Ah, right...I forgotten you're going to be in sixth year soon...unfair, why can't we use our wands too..."he pretended to be annoyed. Henric couldn't wait until he got older, he would made sure of taking full advantage of it when the time comes.

When the guide asked them a question, he didnt know how to answer him.He never seen a lochness monster nor he believed it even existed at all. All that changed now after he became a wizard, wizarding world was certainly wickedly cool place to live in.

"Hey guys." He gave a small wave to the group. It was strange that so many people were talking to him. He made sure to remember everyone's name. Adi, Benny, Henric. Got it. Thankfully Henric gave him a recap of everyone so he wouldn't forget.

And away they went on an adventure to hopefully see some monster. That would be a cool sight to see. Maybe it would even lift Austin's spirits a little more. He was kind of having a rough day, but he was glad he had new friends to help. The tour guide was talking about some stuff, but to be honest his accent was way to thick, and he wasn't in any mood to try to decipher what he was saying. Something about plants?

"Can anyone understand this guy?" He whispered to the people he was walking with.

He chuckled to himself, but in the end didn't bother paying much attention to the tour guide. Instead he decided to look around at the scenery. Henric was right, this view was amazing. It almost made him forget about the fact that his father had forgot about him twice. But that was a thing of the past. Now was a time for adventuring.

FYI, he was not sharing the chocolate with anyone, regardless of how much they needed it, and he was definitely not letting anyone steal it from him. Eyes on you, Chloe.

The Slytherin might've looked as if he was forming an incredibly elaborate response that would give a lot more information about this marine dinosaur, says the muggles, when in fact he was merely wondering where the Black Lake ranked amongst Scottish lakes. Only, did it count? It had direct access to the sea, correct? So he wasn't altogether sure about that.

As far as the creature in that lake goes... yes, a Kelpie, like Caleb had said.

Perhaps he had valuable insight to add, yet he was thinking about geography at the moment.

A smile came to his face as Chloe whispered something that he wouldn't have been able to catch if he hadn't been paying attention to his surroundings, "Some study for tests, others simply gain knowledge," he replied, also whispering.

The older girl had never travelled by portrkey before. Penelope had only travelled by portkey twice before, and that was both ways on the astronomy field trip to the national space centre. "I travelled by portkey for the first time on an astronomy field trip when I was a second year." That trip could have been better for her. After the field trip, she had woken up to find that she had fallen asleep in the astronomy class when they returned from the field trip and Flamsteed had levitated her out of the classroom and dropped her by the door to the Ravenclaw common room. There were worse things that had happened to her in astronomy class, though.

Brynn. Penelope would have to remember that. "We can be buddy up. I'm Penelope, by the way." Penelope let Brynn help her up. They were going to go somewhere. Penelope made sure that she had everything that she would need for now with her. She was taking her wand with her, as well as her water bottle, a small notebook, and a pen. Penelope sipped water from her water bottle. That might make her less nauseous. Hopefully nothing bad would happen on this trip. Penelope really didn't want to die on this field trip. So far, she had survived three years at Hogwarts, and she was planning on continuing to live.

It looked like the group was getting ready to go to the loch. "You ready to go to the loch, Brynn?" Who's idea was it to start the tour immediately after they arrived? Penelope hated these kinds of tours where you started walking somewhere immediately after arriving.

Mr Kitridge was here! ...Offering her chocolate. She didn’t really feel like eating anything right now. "Does chocolate help with portkey sickness?" Chocolate didn't seem like the kind of thing that would help with nausea. It might even make her feel more nauseous. Penelope didn't like to eat chocolate very often, but it was alright once in a while. If chocolate really helped with portkey sickness she would have some, but she really didn’t feel like eating anything right now.

They were going to the loch now? Right after portkeying? That sounded like a bad idea. Penelope was not really feeling up to going anywhere just yet. She was still feeling nauseous. For now she would just have to join the group with Brynn.

Penelope had read about Loch Ness before the trip. "The Loch Ness Monster is the world's largest Kelpie." That's what the book said. Penelope jotted down a few notes in her notebook on what the tour guide had said.

EXCITED. He was, excited. So much so that he wasn't bothered much with guessing as to what their first activities would be, all he knew was that it was going to be grand.

Happily letting Hady drag him around, he squeezed her hand gently every so often simply to convey that he was indeed excited and present, so very present right now. The only moment in which he dropped her hand was when he dropped his backpack aka LUGGAGE off for Mr. Kitridge. Weeeeeeeee, and then he continued to follow, his hand back in Hady's grip - or else he mightn't have moved off so quickly.

All discussions of the Lock Ness fascinated him, but really, there wasn't much more he could say on the matter. It was a kelpie, he was certain of it, that's what he'd been told, it's what he read... and if books and smarter people didn't know the right answers then how was he EVER going to learn? But no, it was clear as day. So... were they going to see it? Or, see ONE? A kelpie? Could they?

"How great would it be to domesticate one?" he mused to Hady, wondering whether or not such a thing was possible. People rode dragons, so... it WAS possible, surely. It was then that he noticed Kate on Hady's other side, he offered her a smile and a nod hello.
