Welcome! I’m Jamie (Birchwoodmom). This will be my first attempt at drabbles alongside the very patient and lovely Ali (FearlessLeader19), who has probably written about 1000. These are some of the many adventures of Kay and Emmalyn while on summer holiday from Hogwarts.

To them, her life was a joke. They didn’t want her and she no longer wanted them. Her new life as a witch felt more real than all of her days spent with her Muggle family. The only problem, she had nowhere to stay.
Then she met her. The professor that seemed to know exactly what to say. Professor Stewart cared more than she could imagine. Her life would change because of her and she was no longer homeless. Her summers would be filled with her new family and someone to look up to.
Professor Stewart was her new home.

57. Goblin
The goblin looked down at them and from Kay’s point of view, he seemed to be glaring. That was how all goblins looked though; they were rather stern. “Yes, I’d like to have a vault for Emmalyn Walsh, please,’’ Kay repeated. She smiled down at the girl beside her. Surely, she wasn’t freaked out by the sternness of the Gringotts goblin?
The procedures were completed and they were soon on their way in the speedy little cart to visit the vault. “Remember to always keep your key safely,’’ Kay reminded Lyn and sounding very much like a protective mother hen. | |

38. Patronus
She never told Kay about being attacked by the gnomes on Hogwarts grounds. She had to call for help casting green sparks in the air since she was unable to produce a patronus charm. No memory had been happy enough. That wasn’t true any longer. She ran to Kay, smile spread wide and happy tears streaming down her face. “I did it. I cast a patronus charm. You are my happy.”
Her heart had been healed in just a sort time of living with Kay. She finally knew what it felt like to be loved for who she was.

43. Headmaster
Mails were being checked but this was a simple one that Kay needed Emmalyn to receive. There hadn’t been time for goodbyes which was why this was the first letter she was penning to anyone who remained at Hogwarts. Quote:
Lyn, don’t worry about me. I hate to leave you at Hogwarts because of what is happening there but your education is important. Keep your head up. Stay away from Headmaster Scrimgeour if possible. If you need anyone to talk to then I recommend Professors Foster, Gaston, Kalen or Tristan.’’

82: Careful
It was the term of being careful, walking on eggshells, and him. The new Headmaster was not a person she cared to get to know. Early morning runs, perfect uniforms, and rules. Emmalyn’s heart broke every time she thought of Professor Stewart being fired.
She had a plan to get her back, but she knew she would have to be smart about it. Getting a message to Kay was going to be harder than she originally thought, but she knew it must be done. Then she thought of the perfect way. She would send a letter to Marshmallow, Kay's crup.

99. Trunk
Kay peered down into Emmalyn’s recently emptied trunk. There were bits of parchment, old ink bottles, quills with broken tips, sweet wrappers and an assortment of other debris. She was quite amused because this reminded her of herself and her own trunk when she attended Hogwarts as a student. “We can’t have you returning to Hogwarts with a messy trunk,’’ she said with a laugh. A wave of her wand, a mutter of an incantation and it was as completely clean.
“There, Lyn! I daresay you’ll have more space to neatly pack your books and everything else that you’ll need.’’ | |

"How could they?" she screamed at Kay in angry frustration over her parents once again not responding to her letters. "How do you stop caring about your own child?" She knew that it wasn't Professor Stewart's fault, but she felt safe with Kay, safe enough to let her anger flow freely. Emmalyn clenched her fists, stamped her foot,, and used every ounce of control she had to not grab her wand and do some real damage.
After a few minutes of counting and deep breaths, her anger started to subside. "I'm sorry, Professor Stewart." It was all she could say.

97. Dictionary
Kay was doing the annual clean out of her house. Today happened to be the day she was focusing on her collection of books. There were piles of them around her while she sat in the middle. “To be donated,’’ she muttered as she discarded a book of fairy tales into a selected pile. “Hmmm.’’ The next book brought back so many memories. It was an old dictionary given to her by her father during the time she attended Muggle Primary school.

2: Muggle Studies
Summer was quickly coming to an end and Emmalyn was packing for Hogwarts. The new year brought new books and new classes, and as she sat on her bed, packing her trunk, she realized that she had never asked Professor Stewart why she chose Muggle Studies. Kay was a very skilled witch and would have made an excellent charms or transfiguration professor, but she chose a different path. Emmalyn suddenly realized that if Kay hadn't been the Muggle Studies professor, she would have never gone to her for help that day after class and her future would look very different.

93. Chicken
“Hmm... how about a chicken dish?’’ Kay suggested. She looked up from the table in the kitchen at which she sat. “I have a craving for chicken alfredo.’’ She grinned and marked her spot in the book she was reading with a finger. “Of course I will help but I know enough by now that you’ll want to do as much of it on your own.’’
Emmalyn had arrived at Kay’s house a wonderful little chef and was now blossoming into a master chef. Kay got to experience and literally taste the improvement with each dish. It was indeed exciting. | |

25. Sorting Hat
Kaysha watched from her seat at the Staff Dais as the new students waited to be Sorted. Most seemed nervous, some excited, some blank as though they were unsure of what to expect. Most of all, the first years all looked tiny.
She remembered one young lady as she sat on the stool, the Hat over her head in particular. Little did she knew that the girl would one day play a big part in her life. At the moment, Emmalyn Walsh looked like any other student on their way to commence their journey at Hogwarts.
Fate had other plans.

The day started like any other. Her summer vacation had been going wonderfully, better than she had imagined. Emmalyn hopped out of bed and quick-stepped to the kitchen to put a pot of water on for tea. The early morning sun was already creeping over the horizon and beckoned her outside.
After a hasty breakfast, Emmalyn grabbed a quill and parchment to jot down a note for Kay.
Dear Kay,
I'm taking Marshmallow for a walk. We will be back by lunchtime, no need to worry.
Love, Emmalyn
She placed the note on the counter and dashed out the door.

Kay blew the dust off of the box from under her bed.
It contained a few copies of books most precious to her that were given to her by her father. Now, she wanted to give them to Emmalyn. She combed through the pages reminiscently. These had been in her possession since she was a little girl. It was like a blast from the past.
A Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Wind in the Willows, Around the World in Eighty Days... these were just a few.
Kaysha was one hundred percent sure that Emmalyn would enjoy them.

It was Christmas time at Hogwarts. Her favorite time of year and her heart was set on making Professor Stewart a gift. Not only to say thank you for giving her a place to stay but to also let her know how much she felt like family. Emmalyn spent hours each evening knitting on her gift, working her fingers until they cramped. When she was finally finished, she wrapped them in some tissue, put a bow on, and skipped off to Kay's office.
"Happy Christmas! I made you something." She held out the gift with a giant smile. "Ravenclaw socks!"

51. Act
As much as Kay enjoyed baking with Emmalyn, for the girl’s nineteenth birthday, she refused to do so with Emmalyn in her presence. It might be a small act or gesture but Kaysha knew it would be appreciated all the same.
Instead of a single cake, there were red velvet cupcakes cooling on the table. Each would be posted with a letter or punctuation that would spell out “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, EMMALYN!”
Kaysha could hardly wait to surprise Lyn with them. The three of them- Foster, Lyn and Kay were sure to the baked treats.
Emmalyn had grown up so fast!
