Lizzie wandered around her room, humming as she went. She straightened the bed sheets, made sure the drapes on the beds were hanging perfectly, folded clothes, and dusted all the surfaces.

She sang loudly as she continued tidying, arranging all her books in alphabetical order by subject matter. This was what she did for enjoyment during the holidays. There was nothing else, after all.

'Are you a house elf?' piped up a small voice from the doorway, causing Lizzie to topple off the chair she was standing on, dropping her Arithmancy books everywhere.

'Honestly, Cath. I just like to clean!'

38;; Patronus

The two girls looked at each other in anticipation.

'Ready?' 13-year-old Lizzie asked her friend, with a look of eager determination on her face.

'Ready,' Bex replied, holding her wand out in front of her. They had been looking forward to this for ages, and now they were going to cast their Patronuses.

'EXPECTO PATRONUM!' they bellowed together, looking on delightedly as two silvery shapes shot out of their wands.

‘What is it? What animal?’ they cried, each staring intently at their Patronus intently. Bex looked happy, but Lizzie looked distinctly unpleased.

‘It’s a platypus. My Patronus… is a platypus.’

100;; Homework

Lizzie sat at the table, checking over her Charms homework - a three page essay on the Bubble-Head Charm and its uses - for the fourth time. There wasn't going to be a single mistake when she was through.

'Put some more newspaper on the fire, will you?' Bex asked, sprawling across her favourite armchair. Lizzie rolled her eyes and grabbed the newspaper from the table, tossing it on the fire.

She sat back down and pulled her essay towards her, about to correct a misspelled word, when she came to a horrible realisation.

‘My homework! It’s in the fire!’

'You are such a freak!' Hannah yelled at Lizzie, glaring at her younger sister angrily. Hannah evidently was not keen on her new, tidy room. Lizzie had only been trying to help – their mother had been asking Hannah to clean her bedroom for ages.

'I did you a favour!' she yelled back, giving her sister evil looks. Honestly, some people never appreciated anything. There was no pleasing them. Hannah continued to glare and yell, so Lizzie did the only thing she could think of to shut her up.

She chucked the entire Oxford English Dictionary right at her sister’s face.

21;; Veela

Lizzie smiled across the Common Room at Adam, the guy she had been crushing on for her entire fourth year. He didn’t seem to notice, though. Should she go over? Would that be weird? This was so confusing! She never knew what to do around boys.

‘Should I go over?’ she whispered to Bex, seeking her friend’s expert advice.

‘Erm… I wouldn’t,’ Bex replied, nodding in Adam’s direction. He was no longer alone – he was holding hands with a tall, pretty, blonde girl. Oh, great. ‘I hear she’s, like, part Veela,’ Bex added, and Lizzie turned to glare at her.

25;; Sorting Hat

The Sorting Hat. Lizzie's worst nightmare. Not because she was nervous about her house - Ravenclaw seemed a pretty safe bet - but because it was so... dirty.

It was absolutely filthy. And it was going to be touching her hair! This was cause for a major OCD breakdown. What if germs from the hat got onto her head? Or... what if someone who went before her had head lice?

'Hathaway, Lizzie,' called the professor, and she climbed the steps. Before she sat down she looked pleadingly at the woman.

'Do I have to actually put it on my head?'

59;; Ignore

'Liiiiiiiz,' Hannah whined, poking her sister in the side. Lizzie sat stoically ignoring her, and continued reading her book. 'Come oooooon!' Hannah wheedled, and grabbed the book from her hands. 'Tell me, and I'll give it back' she said, grinning.

Calmly, Lizzie took the book back from her sister's hands and flipped back to her page. 'Not telling you,' she said, turning to the next page.

'Pleeeease?' asked Hannah, giving Lizzie her most charming smile. She wanted to know what had happened to make her sister all happy earlier! It was definitely something involving a boy.

'Lalalala, I'm ignooring youuu!'

Oh, hell no. Not in a million years. Lizzie eyed her broomstick with distaste. She was not getting on that thing... flying was for those who possessed that wonderful thing called hand-eye coordination - something in which Lizzie was sorely lacking.

She watched, jealous as her friends got on and zoom off around the pitch. Giving the broom another look, she swung one leg over the side and tentatively pushed off. Baaaaaad idea. She tried to direct herself back to the ground straight away, but leaning forward apparently made the thing go faster. She knew Quidditch was a bad thing.

69;; Slap

‘House Elf, House Elf!’ Lucy Miller chanted, taunting Lizzie as she gathered up the books that she’d dropped when her bag had split – or, appeared to split. Lucy had obviously been behind it. Lizzie glanced at Bex for support, but she got a shrug and a smile. How helpful.

‘House Elf!’ Lucy continued, a few other students stopping to stare. Lizzie stood up, hugging her books to her chest, and gave Lucy her best evil glare. ‘I am not House Elf!’ she cried angrily. And with that, she reached out and slapped the other girl as hard as she could.
