A Flaming Birthday

Whitney stood in the room of requirement waiting for Torin to take off her blind-fold. "Torin, it's my birthday and you won't even let me see where I am?" It felt like she had been standing in the same spot for over twenty minutes and now she could smell smoke.

"Uh...help?" He called out nervously. Now Whit was really curious. She took off the blind-fold to see a melting cake and a burning curtain. "I think I put too many candles," he replied, looking for anything to put out the fire.

Where was the fire extinguisher when you needed it?

The Great Chase
{27. Owl}

"Stop following me!" Whitney was running around her neighborhood trying to figure out why an owl was following her. What was it doing in the suburbs? They belonged in the woods somewhere.

She reached her house and stopped in front of the door, knocking as hard as possible. "Let me in!" The bird flew over to her and landed on the gate. Realizing it wasn't going to hurt her, she saw a letter tied to its leg.

Whit untied the letter and turned it over to see a very familiar symbol as the door opened. "It’s my letter from Hogwarts!"

Dye or Die
{86. Daring}

Whit held a mirror in front of Tyler, more excited than ever. "You'll love it, I promise!" After he had agreed to let her dye his hair she automatically knew the color she would use.

"If I don't like it I get to dye your hair, right?" Ty asked nervously. 'Why did I agree to this?'

Whit's eyes went wide as she remembered their deal. "Um...sure. On three. 1.....2.....3!"

"Whitney! What did you do to my hair?!? It’s…IT’S ORANGE!" He exclaimed.

She was shocked. "I was just trying to be a little daring!” Did that mean he didn't like it?

Are You Talking To Me?
{42. Portraits}

Whit walked down the stair case and slowly realized she could hear voices. “Hello?" She called out even though she knew no one was around. "Who's there???"

"Well who do ya think?" Whit whipped around to find no one there, just a wall of portraits. "What are ya lookin' at?" A man in a portrait asked.

"Are...are you talking to me?" Since when did portraits TALK?

The man in the portrait simply laughed and walked over to the portrait next to it, whispering something to the group of people. "She didn't know these were talking portraits?!?!" Whit was so naive.

Seeing the Invisible
{41. Thestrals}

'What are these people staring at?' Whitney looked around her and found about ten students staring gloomily at something ten feet away.

She looked at Lima and saw that she too had a questioning look upon her face and they both shrugged at each other.

Finally the professor answered their unanswered questions. "These are thestrals. The reason that many of you cannot see what I am pointing at is because you need to have seen someone pass away."

Now Whit understood why those people who could see them looked so depressed. What a way to see such an extraordinary creature.

An Icey Surprise
{95. Snowball}

"You all can have your snowball fight, but just don't be too rough!" Whitney yelled at her students from across the playground. It was the first snow of the season so she figured she'd let the children go out and play. What seven-year-old didn't like playing in snow?

She watched as the girls built snowmen and the boys had their snowball fight. Whit couldn’t even imagine what it would be like to be hit with a snowball that hard. And then...

WHAM!

Something very cold and wet slammed against her ear. "You're not supposed to throw the snowball at ME!"

BIG Decision For A Small Girl
{25. Sorting Hat}

"Whitney Ashford!" A professor yelled, and a very short (4'8) girl walked up to the stool in front of the entire school. "Sit down and wait to be sorted." Whit nervously did as she was told.

'Hmmm, very shy, but persevering.' She jumped as she heard a deep voice speak. Too nervous to talk, Whit waited to hear what else had to be said. 'Quite intelligent but rather lazy…You’re in...' "SLYTHERIN!"

That was it. One talking hat decided what house she would be in for the next seven years and it chose Slytherin. Who's to say what would happen next?

An Admirable Fall
{71. Untie}

Whitney began to tie Reese's shoe laces together while Torin distracted her. Whit wouldn't ever do something like this to Reese, one of her best friends, but she was at the point of boredom where she just wanted to do anything.

First, Whit got Torin; Reese was next.

Once the laces were tied, Whit stood up and moved near Torin, waiting to see the fall. "Hey! I'll see you guys later!" Reese took her first step, and fell face-forward on the floor. She looked at Whit and yelled, "Whitney Ashford! Untie my shoe laces!!!"

She was in big trouble now.

Dinner With A Side of Humiliation
{30. Feast}

Stuffing a spoon of mashed potatoes in her mouth, Whit looked to see if anyone was watching her. Normally, she wasn't so messy but she'd been studying for her NEWTS two days straight and she just wanted to EAT. Plus, it wasn’t called a feast for nothing.

”Are…you okay?" Whitney turned around to see a random Huffie staring at her.

She stared at him for over two minutes than looked down at her food. "I'm just really HUNGRY!" She yelled, as the entire Great Hall got very quiet and everyone, meaning everyone, was looking at her.

"Well…I am?" How. Embarrassing.

Coo-coo for...Socks!
{96. Socks}

"What are you doing?" Amanda asked.

Whitney was throwing everything out of her chest, loudly. "I'm looking for something!"

Both girls were very frustrated; Amanda because it was 8 am and she was rudely woken up, and Whit because she couldn’t find her socks.

"I put them in here and now they’re gone!" She looked around for them again. “Do you know where they are?”

"Whaaaat?" It was obvious that Amanda was annoyed.

Whitney shook her head, then looked down. "I found them!"

Amanda’s jaw dropped. "You woke me up for a pair of socks?!?" Whitney Ashford was officially nuts.

A Little Witchy
{32. Common Room}

Whitney walked into the common room, wearing what seemed to be a witch costume, feeling everyone’s eyes automatically turn to her.

"Whit, do you realize what you’re wearing?" Raven asked, raising both eyebrows.

’What is she talking about?’. "Huh?" Raven simply stared at her with a blank expression. "I’m a witch! Don’t you get it?" And then she began to sing. "I’ve put a spell on you, and nooooow you're miiiine!"

Raven stared at her, as if to ask if she were really serious, and then walked away.

"Happy Halloween?" Someone had to know when to have a little fun, right?

Funny Mr. Fanta
{64. Nap}

"Oh, Torin, you're so funny!"

... "Whit?"

Whit made no movements whatsoever. "Whitney?....WHITNEY!" Lucy yelled into her ear after trying to wake her up for more than ten minutes.

Awaking from her nap, she sat up in shock and looked around her. "What am I doing here?"

Lucy started laughing. Whit had no idea that she'd been mumbling. "I don't know but I do know that you think Torin’s very funny."

Whitney's cheeks turned a dark shade of red as she realized what happened. "Remind me to get more sleep." 'Or at least to keep my mouth shut when I'm asleep.'

Float Like A...Bunny Mask?
{50. Boggart}

Whit shook her head fearfully. "I don't wanna do it."

The professor sighed and tried think of a different way to convince her. "Whit, either you do it or you don't pass."

’Not fair!' "But...what if I forget the spell? What if it attacks me?!?" She did not want that thing coming near her.

Her professor walked toward the drawer and slowly began to open it. "I'll be right here if you freeze."

Now, the drawer open, her biggest fear floated out. "I can't do it!" She yelled and ran away.

What was so scary about a floating bunny mask?

Birthday Surprise
{94. Allergic}

"WHITNEY!"

Whit whipped around to see Chase walking towards her, hiding something.

"Chase! What are you hiding from me?" She asked more curious than excited. It was her birthday and she had been trying to figure out what Chase got her for weeks.

He laughed and only said, "Close your eyes."

She closed her eyes and waited. 'Please don't let it be socks!' As time went by Whit began to itch; a LOT. "Open your eyes!"

"You got me Daisies! Wait....you got me Daisies?!?!" She now knew why she was so itchy. "I'm allergic to Daisies!"

'Happy Birthday to me.'

Silly Sadness
81. Depression

Letting out a big sigh, Whitney slumped into one of the seats next to Reese.

"Whit! What's wrong?" She asked, a little more worried than was necessary.

She looked up at her best friend and could feel tears welling up in her eyes. "I'm...I'm depressed."

Now this had to be serious. Whitney Ashford was one of the happiest girls around...most of the time. "OHMYGOSH! What happened?!?"

"....I lost my sock...again..."

Reese tried very hard to keep from laughing. "I'm so sorry. I'll help you look for it.” She then turned around and started laughing so hard she began to cry.

51. Act

"How could you!?!" Whitney yelled across the lawn to a stuffed animal on the floor. "I thought we were friends!"

Livvy ran over to where she was and looked around. "Umm...Whit? What are you doing?"

With tears rolling down her face, Whit turned around in surprise. "Oh hi! I'm, um, practicing."

"For what?"

"I want to be an actress! How was I?" she asked, tears now gone.

Livvy began to laugh. ”Yeah, you were great, really.” She then wrapped her arm around her friend and began walking to the school with her. ”You are definitely one crazy girl, Whitney Ashford.”

Like Mother, Like Daughter
98. Pajamas

"It's time to get to bed, Tori," Whitney announced, opening the door to her daughter's bedroom.

Tori rolled her eyes as she looked around the room for a reason to stay up a little later. "But, I-" As she looked up at her mother her jaw dropped. "What are you wearing?!?"

Whitney began to laugh. "Oh look at that, our pj's match! Isn't that cute?"

"Noooo! Now I have to go buy new ones! I can't believe you mom!" Tori stomped out of her room with a new pair of pajamas to change into.

"Well I thought it was cute."

Swish and Flick
3. Transfiguration

"Practice the "swish-and-flick" technique again, class." The classroom groaned once again.

Whitney slowly raised her hand. "Professor, can’t we learn a spell? Something simple?

The professor looked down at her and thought for a second, a smirk growing on her face. "Fine. I'll show you how it works first." She flicked her wand and mumbled a word under her breath; suddenly the tea cup on her desk formed into...

"A MOUSE!!!" The whole class yelled and headed for the door.

"Class, tomorrow we will practice the "swish-and-flick" one more time!" The professor yelled after them, trying hard not to laugh.

Oblivious
56. Fight

"I'm sorry!" Whitney yelled to one of her best friends.

Amanda stopped walking, turned around, and looked at her. "I cannot believe you, Whitney Ashford," she said and walked away towards the school.

Though Whit wasn't sure what she had done wrong it was obvious that she and Amanda were in the middle of their first fight. She really hated fights and always tried to prevent them.

Whit looked up at Chase, still shocked, with tears in her eyes. "What exactly just happened?"

"I have no idea," he replied, still looking at the spot Amanda had just been standing in.

85. Snappish

Why was it that Torin always splashed Whit? "Torin, I know we're at the beach, but you're getting water in my eye!"

"You're such a party pooper Whitney Ashford." He stopped and began walking back to the sand.

Suddenly, something pinched Whit’s leg, first softly, then harder. "Torin! Help me!!!" Looking down she saw it was crab! "Get it oooooff!"

Torin was laughing so hard his eyes were tearing up. 'It's a baby!" He smoothly took it off and hung it in the air. "Good boy. You see? This is what you get for being so mean to me."

Dragons and Things
1. Herbology

“We're using what?!?!” Whitney exclaimed. This was impossible, there was no WAY she was about to stick her hands in that, wearing gloves or not.

The professor sighed as she normally did, and looked over to where she was sitting. "Since Miss Whitney Ashford didn't quite hear what I just said…Dragon dung is what we are going to use to fertilize, no if's, and's, or but's about it. Moving on..."

Whit glared at the pot of dung in front of her. "How. Disgusting." Never in her life did she see herself doing this.

"Excuse me, Ashford?"

Blushing, she replied, "Nothing!"

Goodbye
89. Past

The rain had started early in the morning, and now, around noon, it was still going strong. Rain was always so good at choosing the perfect times to fall. Whitney stood with her head held low, her mother’s hand in her right, and an umbrella in the left.

If Whit looked up she would be able to see the tear stained faces looking at the shiny, black casket that her father was now locked in, never to be opened. The friends and family of Richard Ashford placed one red rose each on top of the grave. ’Goodbye,’ Whitney whispered quietly.

Regrets
28. Time Turner

After managing to get a hold of another Slytherin's time turner, Whit spent all of her Saturday locked up in the room trying to decide whether or not to use it. She just wanted to go back in time and keep herself from telling Keith about her crush on Torin. Why didn’t she think about it?!?!

Whit held up one of the flowers she had picked up from the field and started pulling off the petals. "Do it...don't do it...do it..." Didn't Keith understand that she didn't really mean any of it?! ”Don’t do it.” Life would never be fair.

Stolen Identity
92. Chocolate

"I'll have 3 scoops of chocolate iceream, 2 chocolate frogs, and a glass of chocolate milk, please!"

"I've never seen someone order so much chocolate in my life!" Whit was just about to give Torin the biggest hug she could give when she heard everything he had ordered. "Don't you realize how bad that is for you?!"

Slowly, Torin turned around, leaving Whit to realize that the man ordering all of the chocolate was not even close to being Torin. ’Oops.’ "My wife's pregnant," he replied in a droning tone.

"...oh..." Whit looked down at the ground shyly. ”I’m sorry.”

Next to Normal
68. Roar

"ROOOOOOOOAAAAAAR! RAAAWR?!?!" Whitney couldn't get the thing to move, it just kept staring at her. GO AWAY?!?!

Whit was on top of her dining table, looking down at a little white mouse that somehow found its way in the house. She was scared to death but she couldn’t do anything! There was no way she would the thing either.

...um...Whit?...Why are you on the table?" Andrew had just gotten home from work and, somehow, he was not surprised. And then he saw the mouse. "AWWWW!"

Whitney could do nothing more but glare at him and hope he took it outside.
