Climbing Zone - Grounds Practice your mountain climbing skills on this outdoor rock wall! Several themed climbing walls are located in a spot on the Ilvermorny grounds. Natural rocks line one wall to provide foot holds and reaching supports as you make your way up the wall. Another wall is made completely of knotted and joined ropes to give one the sense of climbing up a gigantic spider web. Or for a bigger challenge, try your skill at the magically changing wall as the grips slowly change size, color, and location. Have fun, but safety first! Everyone must use the helmets and safety harnesses included here, though the ground below is also charmed with a cushioning charm. | |

Third from the right? Diana counted and nodded to herself. She would avoid that handhold. It did mean she had to rethink her path, though. "Thanks for the tip," she called gratefully to Joana.
She glanced back at David as she overheard his challenge to beat a previous time, and had to rebalance herself as she missed a foothold. Yeeeesssirrree, that would be distracting. She refocused on where her hands and feet were, trying to hide her face as she felt her cheeks flush. Was she blushing because of the boy or because she had misstepped? One or the other, she supposed. Probably both. One momentary lack of concentration and she might never be able to show her face in the Thunderbird common room again. Don't mess up, Diana. |

She couldn't help but smirk a little and added a small laugh for good measure. "What do you want, Cauldron-Boot?" she teased not unkindly. She prided herself on figuring out which buttons to push on people and pushed them with affection. While there were those times that she could go a little too far, she felt confident that in this moment she was well far back from that threshold. Besides, appealing to David's competitive nature was fun. "Let's negotiate the terms."
Laying on her stomach with her chin propped up by her hand and heels kicking against her rear, she batted her long lashes at her classmate while also offering Diana the occasional glance and check of her progress. So far so good.

When she called him Cauldron-Boot, David couldn't resist rolling his eyes. "Clever," he muttered back. "Very original." Of course he knew that Joana was just teasing him, so he let it slide and looked up at her lightheartedly.
He took a moment to think about the negotiations. While he mulled through potential options, his eyes glanced over at Diana. The fact that she had misstepped had gone unnoticed, and from where he was standing at the bottom of the wall, he couldn't tell that she was blushing. If he did notice though, he wouldn't have said anything. He just had that effect on people, so he expected it to happen from time to time.
Full attention was then returned to Joana. "How about," he replied with a bit of a smirk playing on his lips, "if I beat my old time, you have to take notes for me in the classes we have together. Especially Divination. For a week." Going to class and just vibing sounded pretty rad. "What say you?"

Was there any better way to kick off her sixth year than by taking a turn on the climbing walls? Tins loved to be active, and while the game room was usually her first stop, this time she really just wanted to stretch her muscles. Slipping on her harness and fastening a helmet under her chin, the girl surveyed the couple of walls to decide between them. Her first instinct was the Spider's Lair, what she referred to the wall with the vines as, but the Magical Conundrum ... she hadn't conquered it yet.
Was today her day?
Stepping up to the wall, Tins rubbed some chalk on her hands before reaching for a couple of hand holds and pulled herself up. Her right leg came up and settled on a foot hold, and then her left right after and then...
The piece under her left hand vanished. And then the one under her right foot, and dooooooown went the girl as she hit the ground on her bum with the softest "oof!"
Er... maybe it wasn't today?

Er... maybe it wasn't today? The Climbing Walls were about the last place that Mato would hang out. In fact, he was hardly what one would call an outdoorsy person. Most things he enjoyed just happened to be indoors. But today he was outside trying to finish up his Herbalism project and once he was done, he was headed back inside past the climbing zone.
The seventh year had heard one of his dormmates talking about it being a great place for a date. Mato wasn't sure that he'd agree, but it remained a thought in his head as he neared the climbing walls and he curiously turned his head that way.... just in time to see someone crashing down.
"Whoa!" he blurted out before he could help himself, concerned and not expecting to see anyone fall, but also internally confirming to himself that this was not the place for him. "Are you okay?" He jogged over a little closer to the girl to make sure she hadn't hurt herself, but also extended a hand if she only needed help up. Otherwise, he'd get the healer.

One of the greatest things about magic and is existence, was the extra safety it provided. Even if Tins hadn't been high enough for her harness to do much help, the cushioning charm certainly ensured she'd have nothing but perhaps a small bruise on her bum to show for her fall. She glared up at the wall, poking her tongue out childishly at it. "Well, that was rude."
She was about to push herself up from the ground to try again, but she was distracted by someone calling out to her and she turned to see Mato. She didn't know him intimately, but having been at the school as long as they had she certainly recognized his face and his name. Smiling at him, she waved a hand at his question, signaling she was perfectly fine before gripping his offered hand to pull herself up. "I'm good, thanks! I wasn't that high up. Thanks for the assist though." She certainly hoped she hadn't left climbing chalk on his hand, however. "You here for a climb as well?"

Now that he was closer, Mato could recognize the girl who had fallen from the climbing wall as Tinsley. He thought it was fair that he didn't know before he offered her a hand up as they weren't all that acquainted with one another, but he was pretty impressed with himself that he made the connection when he got closer. And he was glad that she hadn't gotten too hurt.
Though he'd given her a concerned look, he returned the smile as she gripped his hand and he helped her to her feet. "No problem. Looked a little rough, so I'm glad you didn't break anything." She didn't break anything, right? The ground was probably charmed or at least Mato would guess so. He wasn't all that accustomed to the Climbing Zone.
"Uhh.. not really," he admitted when she asked about his own reason for being out here. "I'm not much of a climber to be honest.. though I heard it's a popular place.." In a manner of speaking. "Do you like it? When you're not falling, that is," he teased with a friendly grin.

Tins let go of Mato's hand once she was firmly back on her feet again, dusting off her own hands from the chalk residue and giving him a sheepish smile. "Sorry if your hands are all chalky now. Thanks for the help." The comment that it looked rough got a small chuckle from her as she looked up towards the wall before back towards him. "On the risk of taking away any toughness I might have seemed to have... there are charms all over this thing to make sure myself or anyone doesn't get REALLY hurt. Which is probably good, because this one is a doozy." One day she would conquer it though.
Or she'd graduate and forget all about it.
Not a climber? That seemed fair - Tins was well aware this was not everyone's cup of tea. Even if people DID like to be active, they might not have enjoyed THIS activity. "What does bring you out and about this way then?" The tease got a laugh before she shrugged her shoulders and beamed at him. "I love it! Even the falling. I'm apparently a glutton for punishment."
