It must have taken at least an hour, but Malfoy and I were out of the castle by now. It surprised me that no one stopped us in the halls or even at the door. It made me think that no one was really looking for me. That no one even noticed that I was gone. I couldn’t believe this. I actually think a few tears started to form in my eyes.
Malfoy was still pulling my down the road, through the gates, and into Hogsmeade. And if I thought the halls were deserted, than Hogsmeade was worse. It looked as if the whole town was closed up. It was quite sad, really.
“Where are you taking me?” I asked softly, knowing that I was pushing my luck with Malfoy. But I didn’t care. I wanted to know.
“The Shrieking Shack,” he said simply. “You’ll be safe there.”
I raised my eyebrow at him, but I knew he couldn’t see it. “What do you mean? I can’t possibly be safe when I’m being kidnapped,” I said smartly.
In response, he jabbed on my wrist a bit, causing me slight pain and continued to walk. “I’ll explain when we get there,” he whispered. And somehow, I knew that he would.
The walk was silent for the rest of the way, and soon enough, we were outside the Shrieking Shack. I didn’t quite know what would be awaiting me inside, but I had a nervous feeling inside of me.
We walked in, and he set me down on a filthy, moth-eaten sofa. He took the Disillusionment Charm off of me, and then he disappeared for a few minutes. I didn’t know what he was doing, but I knew he was still watching me. Otherwise, I would have taken the chance to run away. But actually, I think he might be locking up the shack. Probably making sure I wouldn’t run away. Pft.
He came back and sat down on a table in front of me, his hands folded together on his knees. “Listen, and listen carefully, alright?” he began quickly. “As much as you don’t believe it yet, you’re safe here. Well, for a while anyway. The whole point of you being here is so that we can trap Potter.”
My eyes went wide at this point. They were trying to capture Harry! Wait… they?
“We?” I asked softly, my voice suddenly gone.
“The Dark Lord and I,” he said simply. “That’s why there’s no point in killing you yet.”
I stared at him for a moment. He didn’t look to be exciting about anything.
“It’s a destiny for Potter to fight the Dark Lord. It has to happen. And this is one of the only ways. The Dark Lord only has enough power in him to kill Potter; therefore, he won’t have time to kill you. He left that to me.”
Now, I felt sick to my stomach.
“But I can’t do it.”
I looked up at him with bewilderment clear on my face.
“The only reason I’m on their side is because of my pathetic father. But I’m not an evil person like they are. I can’t kill someone. That would live with me forever. So, I have a plan. But I can’t tell it to you yet. Therefore, you have to play along. If you don’t cooperate with the plan, Weasley, then I will find some way to get rid of you,” he said menacingly.
All I could do was nod my head.
“Good.” He got up to leave, but I knew I had to say something.
“You know,” I began, my voice still weak. “It won’t work.”
He turned around on the spot and looked at me. “What won’t work?”
“Capturing Harry.”
He moved towards me again, and glared at me. “And why won’t it work?”
“Because there is no reason for Harry to come and find me.”
“He’s in love with you. That’s reason enough.”
I laughed mockingly. “No he’s not. He’s too wrapped up in himself and Dumbledore.”
Malfoy just stared at me for a moment before he spoke again. “If I know Potter, he’ll be here shortly.” Then, he walked up the steps and into another room.
Hermione
I couldn’t sleep at all. None of us could. I stared at Ron most of the time, for he seemed to be miserable. Finally, at around five in the morning, I stood up and walked towards him. He looked up at me in return, and I gave him a weak smile.
Carefully, I positioned myself in his lap and rested my head against his shoulder. His arms wrapped around me tightly and I knew that I was helping somehow. He needed someone to comfort him, and with Ginny gone, I felt that I was the only one who could do it.
Harry had looked over at us for a moment, I saw, but he didn’t linger. And as much as I was helping Ron, I think I made it worse for Harry. I knew that he couldn’t do the same with Ginny, and I felt bad about that.
It was Sunday by now, so we didn’t have classes to go to, but we were still anxious to get out of the Common Room. By about eight o’clock in the morning, my eyes began to droop as I relaxed against Ron’s body. The two boys obviously couldn’t sleep at all.
It took a while for Professor McGonagall to finally unlock us from the Common Room, but now, we were practically locked within in the school. Harry had this hunch that Ginny was in the Shrieking Shack, no matter how many times Professor McGonagall said they checked it already. And he was desperate to go find out. However, we weren’t allowed to leave school grounds. They had the gates locked especially for us.
Harry sighed and took out his Marauder’s Map. Then, he began to walk to a certain corridor where there was a weird statue of a witch.
“Harry, what are you doing?” I asked him.
“I’m going to find Ginny,” he said simply, tapping the witch on the back. The witch moved out of the way and cleared a tunnel for them to go through.
“Harry, you can’t. We aren’t allowed to leave the grounds.”
He quickly turned to me, an angry expression on his face. “I don’t care what McGonagall says. There’s nothing that she could possibly do to me if I was caught that is worse than losing Ginny. I have to find her, Hermione. And for once in your life, you can stop following the rules, and just help me,” he said, almost begging for me to hush up.
I looked up at Ron, and he had the same expression on his face. I sighed and climbed into the tunnel after Harry did, with Ron behind me. And silently, we made our way through.
We turned up underneath Honeydukes, but it was weird. Instead of being loud and noisy and full of people, it was silent and cold and empty. Honeydukes was closed. But Honeydukes was never closed. Harry led the way through Honeydukes, he draped the Invisibility Cloak over us, and we left the shop and walked through the deserted street of Hogsmeade.
I do hope that Ginny is in the Shrieking Shack. And for Harry and Ron’s sake… I hope she’s alone… | |
