Sorry for the insanely long wait! Life has been really crazy for me lately. BUT. anyway... *goes back to writing*
Ahem. So, I decided on splitting this chapter into two parts, since the second part will probably be the most important part in the FanFic, and it might take me a while to write. But, for now, I give you the shortness of part one. Chapter 30 - Part One
The evil cackle that followed was way too dramatic for my taste. Maybe it was because I was drained, tired, unbelievably sad and so stressed that it surely wasn’t healthy for me, but I rolled my eyes. I also stepped out from behind Harry, and took a few steps toward Voldemort.
The man – if you could actually call him that – was, for once, standing alone. I don’t know what kind of order he gave his followers, but none of them were there. I looked up into the dark, star-free night sky, but couldn’t see anything. The Death Eaters were no where. Voldemort’s mouth twisted up into what I assumed was supposed to be a smile. To me, it looked more like a grimace. Harry grabbed my hand, trying to pull me behind him again. When I didn’t move, he stepped up next to me, instead.
“Hello again, Harry Potter.” Voldemort sneered. Harry stayed silent, but gripped my hand tighter. I just squeezed his with the same force; I don’t know who was holding who back, me or him.
“It’s very rude not to answer me, Harry. Should I teach you a lesson?” he paused, then turned to look at me, I felt a shudder go down my back, but I kept my gaze locked on him. “Or how about your girlfriend? She could use a lesson in etiquette, too.”
I knew what was going to happen before it happened, but I didn’t think to stop it. Harry stepped in front of me at Voldemort’s threat, and Voldemort screamed “Crucio!”
It took me a moment to realize I was screaming. I had dropped to my knees next to Harry, who for the second time today was being tortured. I was screaming his name, trying to help him in any way possible – but I could find none. Finally, he fell still and silent, but I didn’t. I brushed a hand through his hair worriedly and rubbed his hands in my other hand, praying for him to open his eyes.
I had completely forgotten about Voldemort until he spoke. His voice gave me chills; I pulled Harry closer to me, trying to protect him as he had always protected me.
“How touching.” Voldemort sneered, walking right up to Harry’s feet. “Not much of a hero now, is he, Weasley? What kind of man lets a woman do the fighting – be the strong one?” he shook his head as he stalked around Harry, who was feebly stirring in my arms.
“Give up, girl,” Voldemort suggested, “Harry Potter is going to die tonight, right here at Hogwarts where he was always safe.”
“Kill him now then.” I said – I was deadly calm and I hardly believed my own ears. Was I telling Voldemort to kill the man I love?
“No, I won’t right now. I want him to be alive when I kill him, not lying on the ground at a girl’s feet. I want to see him fall, and I want to see the light leave his eyes.” He snickered, finishing his circle around Harry and ending up at his feet again.
“Stand up, Potter.”
To my surprise, Harry stood up – although he was slow and shaky on his feet. I stood up with him, keeping a firm hold on his arm. His emerald eyes locked with my brown ones, and I understood the message: I need to do this.
“I love you.” I whispered.
“I love you, too. Forever.”
Then, I backed away from him, leaving him to fight for his life against Voldemort.

Okay, I'm sad to say that this is the second-to-the-last chapter of this Fanfic. I'll, um, say my proper goodbyes when it's completely finished, but I thought I should heads-up you guys. Enjoy and review! Chapter 30 - Part Two I backed into the crowd of students, family, and teachers that were gathered around the two legendary wizards. I felt two strong arms around my shoulder and a scruffy chin on my head. I leaned back into Charlie, keeping my eyes locked on Harry, but feeling grateful for the security my brother was giving me.
“He’ll be okay,” He whispered, his voice the only sound I could hear besides my own breathing. The crowd had gone silent – it seemed as if everyone was holding their breath. I felt like I was going to be sick.
Just as I was about to run back over to Harry, Voldemort’s voice rang out louder than usual. A cruel, high-pitched laugh echoed around the school grounds. I felt tears prick in my eyes as I saw the look on Harry’s face; he was very pale in the moonlight, and his jaw was set firmly in an effort to not look afraid. I could tell, though. I could tell that he was terrified – he thought he was looking at Death right in the eyes.
I didn’t want to think about whether he was right or not.
“Get it over with, Tom.” Harry’s voice, although it wasn’t magically magnified, could be heard by every single person that was watching him. “I know you want to make a show of this – you’ve already done so by attacking Hogwarts. You want to kill me, so do it already. Come on. I’m right here.”
“You dare call-“
“Yes, Tom Riddle; I know who you are, and you’re not who you say you are.” He looked around quickly, then back at Voldemort. “None of your puppets are here right now, are they? They aren’t here to witness as you defeat The Boy Who Lived. Why is that, Riddle?”
“I don’t know what you’re-“
“You’re a half-blood, Riddle. You aren’t the perfect Pure Blood that everyone thinks you are, and you told the Death Eaters not to be here because you didn’t want them to know. I know you’re an orphan, too. You never had a real family, and that’s why you don’t believe in-“
“Love!” Voldemort screeched. “Love! Love does not exist! Dumbledore used that excuse for everything! They say that’s why you lived, because of Lily’s love.”
“How else, Tom, could I have survived that night? I was just a year old. You were the most powerful dark wizard ever to live. How was it that I survived that night, when you were shattered?”
Another painfully long silence. I was digging my fingernails into Charlie’s forearm, but I couldn’t pay enough attention to my body to make myself stop.
“I don’t know how you survived that night, but I do know that you’re going to die tonight. Avada Kedavra!”
A green flash of light came from Voldemort’s wand. In a split second, Harry had hit the ground. In the second after that, Death Eaters had started apparating in the midst of the students and adults gathered around Voldemort and Harry. There were many screams, and the crowd started to disperse. People started shouting and spells started flying, but I only had one goal in mind as I pushed, shoved, kicked, and clawed my way out of the crowd.
“Harry!”
I could see him, lying right there on the grass next to the lake. He was completely still. All thought left my head as I ran for him, tripping over my own feet in my rush to get to him. I fell onto the ground a few feet away from him and crawled the rest of the way.
“Harry,” I whispered, leaning over him, one hand on each side of him. I stared into his face, which was so peaceful. No. No. No.
My body was acting on its own accord, now; it was like I had completely lost the ability to control it. My hands were brushing Harry’s face and hair. My body was shaking – from cold, fear, loss, and emotion. My face, had anyone been looking at it, would’ve looked unemotional, had it not been for the tears running down my cheeks and falling onto Harry’s face, hair, and neck.
The coherent part of my brain told me that I needed to get away from the battle and that I could die at any moment from any of the green lights that were coming from wands – but the bigger part of my brain, the part that wasn’t caring about anything except Harry, kept me on the grass.
“Harry,” I moaned, laying my head on his chest. “Harry, Harry, Harry…” I cried onto his shirt – his dirty, bloodstained shirt – for a long space of time. I couldn’t believe it had ended so quickly – that Harry was gone. It just couldn’t be true – I wouldn’t believe it! I lay on him for I-don’t-know-how long, sobbing soundlessly into his chest. When my sobs stopped, I started to calm down while listening to the slow, steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
…Heartbeat?
“Harry?” I whispered, pushing my ear into his chest. There was no change about him, but I marveled in the sound of his heart: proof that he was somehow, by some sort of miracle, alive.
Suddenly, a hand was covering one of my hands that had been in Harry’s hair.
“Gin?”
I was crying harder, harder than I had ever cried before. I lifted my head up to look into Harry’s beautiful green eyes – green eyes that sparkled despite the confusion in them. I didn’t care about the battle going around us; I didn’t care about the fact that any Death Eater could see us. I didn’t even care that I didn’t know where Voldemort was. All I cared about was that Harry was here. I kissed him.
I tasted my saltwater tears, dirt, and blood on Harry’s lips as we kissed, but I all I knew what that he was Harry. My hands tangled in his hair, his tangled in mine. We slowly sat up, kissing passionately, marveling in each other. As the kiss slowed, I felt Harry smile, but I was still crying.
“I love you,” we both said at the same time, hugging each other close.
“Ginny,” Harry murmured against my shoulder, “What’s going on?”
“You died.” I answered, choking on more sobs that threatened to overcome my body. “He killed you Harry, I saw it. But… you’re here! You’re here.” I buried my face in his shoulder, taking in the smell of him, the feel of him, and the sound of his deep breathing.
“Why is everyone fighting?” His voice sounded innocent, like a young child.
“I don’t know,” I breathed, “I… I don’t think the war is over just yet.”
“I need to finish it, don’t I?”
I wanted to tell him no. I wanted to keep him with me, away from harm, where I could hold his hand and prove to myself that he was okay, and that he would never, never leave me like I thought he had.
But he was Harry Potter. And things like that didn’t happen for him.
“I need to finish this.” he answered himself, nodding. He stood up, helping me up, too. He kissed me quickly, and then dropped my hand. “I love you,” he reminded me.
“I know.” I whispered.
I stared at him for a split second before he turned around. He kept a firm hold on my hand as he headed for the castle. Miraculously, we dodged the spells flying around us. Most of the remaining battle had moved into the building, where Voldemort was surely in charge.
We walked up to Hogwarts holding hands. Harry stopped us outside the big front doors.
“Whatever happens in there,” he said, catching a tear on his finger as it fell from my eye, “I love you.”
“Don’t talk like that, Harry,” I whispered, “You’ll come back to me. Because I love you too, and the world isn’t cruel enough to take you away from me again.”
A single tear fell from Harry’s eyes as he kissed me. When I opened my eyes again, it was gone and replaced with a look of determination. I dropped my hand from his. With a look and a silent agreement, Harry walked into the Great Hall.
It only took a few seconds for everybody to realize who had just walked into the room. When I followed Harry in, every single person was staring at him. He was searching the room for a certain someone, and it was obvious when he found what he was looking for.
“Y- you’re dead.” Voldemort’s voice rang out again over everybody. Now, though, it was obviously confused.
Everybody but Voldemort ran for the walls, not wanting to be caught in the middle of the room. Harry slowly and deliberately took a step into No-Man’s-Land. He gripped his wand tightly, and I prepared myself for a heroic speech.
“Yeah? Well, I’m … not.”
It seemed that Voldemort had been expecting a speech too, because after staring at Harry in shock for a moment, he laughed.
“Not yet, it seems. But you-”
“Come kill me,” Harry challenged, “Come here and face me like a real man. I’m not afraid of you.” Voldemort, looking amused, walked closer to Harry.
“Expelliarmus!”
“Avada Kedavra!”
I closed my eyes at the flashes of red and green, but opened them again almost instantly. The two wizards were standing about twenty feet apart, arms outstretched, with colors shooting out of their wand tips. The spells had connected, forming a green-and-red barrier between the two. Voldemort was grinning. Harry was gritting his teeth, both hands on his wand as he fought to keep his spell going. There was complete silence in the room.
I watched the spells battle while keeping an eye on Harry. Every time the green would gain up on the red, Harry’s face would get angrier and the red would blast harder from his wand.
I was so busy watching his face that I didn’t look away from it until I heard a thud and a collective gasp from everyone watching the battle.
“Harry!” I screamed as soon as he lowered his wand. He was the only thing I cared about. I rushed at him, flinging myself into his arms, not even thinking about what the thud was.
“He’s gone.” Harry whispered, stunned. “Ginny, Voldemort’s gone. I … I won.”

I can't believe I'm saying this - but here's the last chapter of That's Me; Ginny Weasley. After almost four years, I have finally finished this. I just want to say a great big THANK YOU to anybody who ever read this. Whether you were one of the first to read it, just started, or stuck with me throughout this whole process. It means so much to me. Thanks for all the tips and criticism you've given me. But mostly, thanks for enjoying the story. Thank you so so so much.
~ Syd
Here it is; That's Me; Ginny Weasley Chapter 31
I don’t know how long we stood there in the middle of the Great Hall, holding each other tightly. I knew that we should do something but I didn’t want to let go of Harry. Were people still fighting, or had that ended with Voldemort’s life? I didn’t know.
Harry pulled away from me to hold me at arm’s length. I stared at him silently and he did the same thing to me. That was when we were swarmed by pretty much everyone in the castle. Order members gave Harry hugs, patting his head and shaking his hands. Teachers from the school congratulated him and thanked him. Actually, everyone thanked him. Everyone wanted to touch some part of him to get his attention; they wanted to look him in the eyes and say how grateful they were for him. Harry stood there patiently and listened to all of the thank you’s, holding tightly to my hand the whole time. Finally, we were joined by the two people I most wanted to see.
“Harry!” Hermione had pushed her way to the front of the crowd and engulfed Harry in a hug. I dropped his hand as Ron picked me up in a hug also. I hugged him back tightly.
“You did it, mate,” Ron said as he set me on the floor before stepping over to Harry and giving him a hug too. Hermione’s eyes glistened with tears as she watched her two best friends. I smiled at her and she smiled back.
“Yeah,” Harry replied to Ron. He reached his hand out to me. “I did, I guess. With help though.” He took my hand and pulled me closer to him, looking around the room. He took a deep, shaky breath before looking at the three of us around him.
“Do you guys mind if we went somewhere else to talk?”
No one followed us out of the room. I’m sure many people saw us leave but they must’ve realized that Harry needed some time alone. We ended up on the grounds. There were still people out there too, but they were busy. We sat on the grass a ways away from the castle, watching the people move the dead inside the castle. I held Harry’s hand tightly, and when I looked over at Ron and Hermione they were doing the same thing. None of us said a word for a very long time.
“It’s kind of weird,” Ron said finally. “I mean, that everything’s just over. Vol-Voldemort is gone, and we don’t have to worry about him anymore.”
“That’s good though,” Hermione said. Ron just looked at her for a second before continuing.
“I know it is. I’m just saying that it’s weird, because all of our lives we’ve known of Voldemort, worried about him and stuff. And now it’s all over. Of course it’s a good thing – great. But-“
“Yeah, I know what you mean.” Harry said. I looked over at him, and he smiled. “Let’s go see if they need some help inside.”
By the time we entered the Great Hall again, it was cleaned. The tables were arranged, but no one was sitting according to houses. The dead were moved to the front of the hall, but the Death Eaters had been moved out of the room. The injured were leaving for the Hospital Wing to get treated. I scanned the room and quickly found the group of red heads. Harry dropped my hand as if he knew what I was doing, and I ran for my family.
I knew what they were doing, but I still wasn’t ready for it. I slowed to a walk as I neared my family. I could hear Ron walking behind me, and then I felt his hand on my shoulder.
My family was gathered around Bill’s body. I swayed on my feet and Ron steadied me. I caught my dad’s eye and he rushed to give me a hug. I held him close, crying silent tears. I heard Fleur crying, and my mum.
We were there for a very long time. Finally, I ran out of tears. I looked up at my dad and he nodded to me. I got the message; Bill died to help us live, and we should be grateful. He’d be missed, of course. Of course. But we had to go on. There was still a lot to do here.
I looked around as I remembered that there were still people around me. Life was still going on. Most of the people I saw had tears in their eyes. Some were smiling, some were expressionless, and some were just crying. I wiped my eyes as Harry put his arm around me.
“Can we go somewhere?” I asked him in a whisper. “Just the two of us?”
A few minutes later we were standing outside of the Gryffindor common room. The Fat Lady had tears in her eyes as she thanked Harry and swung her portrait away from the portrait hole. Harry reached for my hand and we walked into the room together. It was empty except for the fireplace. The room looked like it always has – I guess it was saved from the war.
“Come on,” Harry said, smiling at me as he pulled me up the stairs to the boy’s dormitory. Part of the tower roof had been blasted away, but that was the only thing in the room that reminded us of what had just happened. We sat down on his bed and he held me tightly in silence. I closed my eyes and leaned against him.
“Harry,” I said a few minutes later. I sat up and turned around to look at him, “I just realized that I didn’t thank you.” He shook his head, about to tell me that I didn’t need to thank him. I kept talking though. “Thanks for finding me at the Malfoy’s, thanks for defeating Voldemort. Just… thanks.” In response, he kissed me.
“Good morning,” Harry said a week later as he walked into my bedroom at the Burrow. I sat up in my bed, blinking in the bright light shining through my window. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and Harry laughed.
“What time is it?” I asked groggily.
“Noon,” Harry answered. His voice was energetic and lively – more so than it’d been in a long while. I smiled, wondering why he was so happy. I wasn’t going to question it though; I just wanted him to stay like that for as long as possible.
I stood up and Harry reached for my hand. I didn’t bother to put on shoes so I walked downstairs in my pajamas and bare feet. I could tell as soon as I walked into the kitchen that my family also had a bit of Harry’s cheerfulness. Of course there was still sadness, but there were small smiles on every face in the room when they saw me and Harry walk in together. I smiled too, looking down. We sat at the table and Harry poured us both some tea. When I looked up, Hermione was grinning at me. I glanced at Harry, wondering if he knew what was going on with everyone. He seemed very interested in his tea. He was also bouncing his leg, though, and looking worried. His bubbly attitude seemed to have disappeared.
A few minutes later he set his cup down on the table loudly and everyone went silent. Some smiles got even bigger. Ron looked like he was trying not to smile. Hermione was beaming, as was my mom and Fleur.
“Do you want to walk with me?” Harry asked, turning to me suddenly. I nodded and we stood up and left the kitchen, going outside. Harry was silent as we walked. I was trying to pay attention to the feel of grass under my feet and not the fact that Harry was so quiet and distracted. He’d been in such a great mood just a little while ago. What could change so quickly?
Suddenly he stopped and looked at me. I stared at him, a smile creeping at my lips. “Are you okay?” I asked as he grabbed both of my hands in his.
“Nervous,” he muttered, looking at the ground between us. I didn’t get a chance to ask why before he was looking at me – straight in the eyes – and I forgot what I was going to ask.
“Gin,” he said very slowly and deliberately. “I have a question.”
“Go ahead,” I told him anxiously. What was all the build-up for? “Just ask.”
He stared at me for a second more before speaking. And once he started, he didn’t stop long enough for me to say anything.
“I talked to your dad a few days ago, after the funerals. And he said it was okay. And I’ve talked to Ron and everyone and all of your brothers and they were fine with it too. But I would’ve done this anyway, without their permission. I would’ve waited of course, but I figure since I asked and it was okay with your dad, why not do it now? I mean, I don’t want to wait. Even though you have another year of school left and all but…”
“Spit it out, Harry,” I whispered, finally catching a pause in his words as he breathed.
“Will you marry me, Ginny?”
Sometimes, it’s desperately hard not to cry. Sometimes, the future just looks so bright and wonderful that you just have to let the tears flow. And that’s just what I did.
“Yes, of course I will Harry!”
