Chapter 7 - Music to His Ears Part 2
The snow fell outside Cassie’s window as she walked into her room and set her beloved violin on the table next to her bed. Laying on her bed she curled up snuggling with her many pillows that cascaded at the top of her canopy bed. Her great albino snake twisted her way to Cassie’s elbow and rested beside her master. Cassie began to absentmindedly pet the snake while thinking of how she both longed to be home in her old home and at the same time she was beginning to feel more at ease here especially since she now felt she could talk to Draco. The only source of light came from the fireplace that burned constantly and the warm glow from its embers caused the tears that now fell from her eyes to appear as though they glowed from within. She stared at the fire dancing in the marble hearth for what seemed like and hour before she herd a knocking on her door.
Wiping the tears from her eyes she got off the bed unwinding the snake as she went and opened the door. Draco stood with a solemn look of dread as he spoke “Your father would like a word with you before he leaves this evening.” He paused “He knows about this morning. I could not keep it from him. I am sorry”
“Was he angry” She asked fussing with the necklace that hung on her neck.
Before he responded he thought though his words carefully. “He will no longer allow you to be in the room alone without a chaperone.” slowing down he worded his thoughts “my mother will be in the room with you whenever a man comes to call.”
A pang in her heart caused her to speak before thinking “So there will be other men not just you then?”
“Your father waits downstairs it is best not to keep him waiting for too long he is not known for his patience.” He retorted coldly
“So I guess that you no longer fine me a good prize?” She asked getting angrier
“Madam I serve your father and his request of me is to ensure that you go downstairs to see him before he leaves, please go.” Draco said indifferently then walked away from the door to allow her to come out.
With a curt smirk her roughly closed the door behind her refusing to look at Draco who walked ahead of her down the stairs and to the doorway of the sitting room.
“My Lord, your Daughter.” He said stepping out of Cassie’s way so she could be seen “ May I have your leave I must prepare for my trip to London.”
Sternly looking over Cassie he waved Draco away. “Come here Cassandra” he stood up from the chair as she walked over to him. When she was within arms reach he struck her across the face leaving a scratch were his nails hit her. “Never disobey me again. You are promised to whomever I see fit and I will not allow you to spoil yourself. Your body mind and soul belong to me not to you. Never again give any property that belongs to me away again or else I will ensure that your punishment is more lasting that that scratch.”
With that he walked away leaving Cassie lying on the floor in tears. Narcissa arrived shortly after her father had departed.
“Episkey” Cried Narcissa with her wand pointed at Cassie’s face. “You will not have a scar from this “ She added as the wound knitted itself back.
“Thank you Madam” Cassie said through sobs without looking at Narcissa. She got to her feet and turned to a now standing Narcissa and asked “May I got to bed please?”
“Of coarse you may. Rest well and do not think on this day much longer. My father was hard on me too. We women must stand up on our feet and take this trouble with grace and poise” Narcissa said with her head held high trying to put on a brave face.
Cassie nodded at what Narcissa said thinking that maybe this women was braver that she first had given her credit for. “Thank you Madam, and goodnight.” She tried to hold her head high and put on the bravest face she could muster.
A few minutes after she had closed her door she herd Narcissa outside her door speaking quietly to Draco. She could not make out what they were saying so she cracked her door to see what was going on. Draco placed his hand on his mother’s shoulder and kissed her forehead then took his bag and left the house.
The great albino snake wound itself around the bow of Cassie’s violin. Cassie stared at her violin while wondering weather or not she would ever see Draco again and if she truly wanted to see him after how he treated her. Dreams took her before she could answer the question she most needed answered.
