~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Chapter Twenty Seven
The ride by Floo Powder was a quick one, which landed Indie and Tonks in the living room of Grimmauld Place. There was an eerie silence over the place, more so than when all the kids had been there at least. As they moved from the fireplace into the kitchen, incoherent chatter met Indie’s ears. She could tell who was speaking; Lupin, Arthur Weasley and Sirius, however she couldn’t figure out what they were saying.
“He’s not here…”
“Why would he be there?”
“Did he mention anything…”
“Tonks might know, she spoke to him last –“
“I asked; she knows nothing.”
The hand on Indie’s shoulder tensed momentarily, before it left her completely to knock gently on the open door. All talking stopped.
“Ah, Indie,” Lupin said, almost exasperated by her appearance, “I hoped you’d come at a time like this.”
“Of course,” replied the young girl, a subtle yet evident tone of disbelief in her voice, “why wouldn’t I, he’s family!”
Moving, Lupin motioned his companions and the two newcomers to sit, and took his place in Sirius’ usual seat at the table head.
“I understand that, Indie, but we believe there are greater reasons for you to be called upon,” despaired Lupin, crossing his arms, pursing his lips.
Her blue eyes became suddenly larger, as the sincerity of the situation washed over Indie. She felt her body become rigid, her mind alert; what was she into?
Granted, it would seem that the regime of Voldemort had only just begun, but Indie could see that his plans were clearly in place. And what made the situation worse was, she never saw it coming.
“Indie,” her gaze turned from an even shabbier of late Lupin, to a tired and exhausted looking Arthur, “earlier yesterday Scott headed off to the north of England, following a trail that Dumbledore himself had given.”
Dumbledore? What could be so important for him to find out that he would need to send Scott? There were plenty more experienced Aurors who could complete the task, surely!
“Scott said nothing of what it entailed, but Dumbledore assured us he would be back this morning. With Dumbledore currently off on his own errands, we have no way of knowing whether Scott’s absence is to do with the task or…misadventure.”
Talking stopped. Indie’s fear stricken look was met by all eyes in the room.
Where had her brother been going? There were only a handful of places in North England that he could possibly be headed to. Many of Voldemort’s followers were in the north, hiding in the mountains until it was safe. Azkaban’s location was virtually unknown, nor would any of the Order be sent there without company.
“We were hoping you could find him,” Sirius interjected, breaking the silence that had fallen on the room, “we’ve had no contact, no word, nothing. We’re not even sure if he’s alive –“
“Sirius!”
“Are you going to deny her the truth, Remus?!”
“Of course not, but it’s her brother that’s out there!”
“You don’t think she knows that?!” he cried, standing in outrage, “She’s not stupid! She’s not under any illusion that the world isn’t falling to pieces around her! Heck, we’re forcing her to see it with her own eyes!”
“We’re not forcing her to do anythi-“
“Don’t be such a hypocrite, Arthur! We all know exactly why she’s here, why she participates in meetings.”
“Sirius –“
“WHY SHE’S FORCED TO ENDURE NIGHTMARE AFTER NIGHTMARE, JUST SO WE CAN GET A GLIMPSE OF WHAT TERROR IS COMING FOR US, THAT WE HAVE NO WAY OF STOPPING!”
No one dared to one up Sirius’ argument, and the faces on both Lupin and Arthur showed that they agreed. Here they were, trying not to tell her that her oldest brother may be dead, yet they were sending her off each week to find plans in the minds of Death Eaters and conspirators. It was all a pile of hypocrisy, and Indie knew that, really, she shouldn’t be doing this, shouldn’t be submerged in the hate and anger of a world gone mad.
But she was.
Like in her dream, there was no escaping it. The voices were just going to keep calling and calling, haunting her, shadowing her every move.
In a world gone mad, you could trust no one.
“Sirius is right,” Indie said, standing as others in the room all remained seated, looking up at her.
“I do have nightmares. Every night. Every night I see all the horrible things from the minds of others happening to the people I love. And it’s terrifying! It’s terrifying to see what could very likely become reality, before it’s even begun!
“But like everyone else on this side, I have a reason to be a part of this battle. It’s times like this, when family goes missing, or friends get hurt, or innocent people are lost, all because we couldn’t justify WHY!
“I do it because I know I can help; because my ‘responsibility’ is saving lives. Because without me, the people I love in this world won’t make it to the future that lies beyond all this horror. Sure, we might not have what it takes to stop what’s coming, but we at least have the satisfaction of saying what we did wasn’t for the glory, or the recognition.
“It was for love.”
Hey Kae. I loved this chapter. Great writing and expressing feelings. I love the way you present each chapter.
I sure hope Scott is ok. I wonder what Dumbledore could have sent him to do. Maybe Dumbledore needed a distraction so he could slip in somewhere and do something while the attention was on Scott. Whatever is going on, I hope he is fine.
I'll be watching for your next chapter. |
for your reading pleasure, a brand NEW 2'000 word chapter (: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Chapter Twenty Eight
Moments later, Indie was in Scott’s room. He’d been lucky enough to get a room of his own while they were at Grimmauld Place, which was a good thing, for both him and Indie. Surrounding herself with all things Scott, his clothes, his belongings; it made it easier to gain a connection, no matter how far away he may be.
Positioning herself comfortably on his bed, clutching a few of his small treasures, she closed her eyes, and wandered. She took turns holding each of the objects for no more than a few minutes each. The feather necklace he’d been given by a native tribe in North America felt soft and light in her hands, the cool beads of the chain draping over her wrists. She moved next to an extremely battered copy of a Muggle novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. She rarely ever saw her brother leave home without it tucked into his bag, and it showed; the corners were well-thumbed. Beside the book on the bed was a photo frame, given to him by their Great-Great Grandmother. She’d bewitched it show a pictures of the warm thoughts in his mind, whether it be people, things or places. At the moment, it was flashing between a dull black-gray color, and the vast green of their home. It didn’t prove to be very useful, since Indie was a hundred percent sure he wasn’t at home. She wouldn’t set it totally aside though; it may come in useful later.
By now, she’d gotten through most of the places she’d usually find Scott, but today, he wasn’t in any of them. She moved her fingers over each of the objects again; first the frame, the book, the necklace…she brushed over them all a dozen times. Still nothing.
“Aaaarrrgggghhhh!” To Kill a Mockingbird flew across the room, hitting the bedroom door with a clunk, before it fell to the floor with its pages all bent up. By the time Tonks and company arrived, Indie’s head was in her hands, with her fighting the urge not to throw something else.
“Indie, what’s going on?” Tonks cried, walking over to the young girl, crouching in front of her and resting her hands on Indie’s shoulders.
“I can’t find him,” she almost whispered, “I can’t find my brother. I have no idea where he could possibly be…” Her voice was growing louder with each word, raising from a whisper to an almost yell.
“He’s absolutely nowhere you’d think of, and his stupid frame isn’t telling us anything, why the jumping jellybeans would he just cavort off across the country on errands set by a mad old bloke who can’t even get his mind on the right way?!”
The only thing keeping the room from being silent was Indie’s quiet sobs. Remus bent down to pick up the tousled novel from the ground, straightening out its pages before placing it on the bookcase.
A noise downstairs made all the heads jerk up. Sirius held a finger to his lips, as Indie slipped away for a moment. Nothing ruined a surprise visit from an undesirable like a little foresight.
Indie’s loud gasp startled everyone. Eyes that were focused on the fast approaching footsteps were now on Indie, who was sprinting out the door and down the stairs.
“INDIE!”
But not even Tonks’ fearful cry could stop her from running headlong into the group hug of her siblings in the foyer. The remaining Stewarts somehow all turned up Grimmauld place, with equally worried and frightened looks on their faces. The faces of the Order looked a little more relieved to discover that the unexpected visit was not an unwanted one.
“Indie, what’s going on here?” Melanie asked, looking down almost a whole head to be level with her sister.
“Yeah, we got called out of class by Dumbledore,” Anton added, “had Paul and Mel get us here right away.”
“We heard Scott might have –“
“Bell, don’t say it –“
“Shut up, Paul.”
“Guys, honestly, is now really the time?”
Indie was thankful for her oldest sister’s level headedness in a time like this. A small laugh managed to escape her before she was met with quizzical looks.
“Come on, I’ve got a plan.”
Leading her family upstairs to Scott’s room, taking To Kill a Mockingbird from the shelf on the way, she sat on his bed, the way she was before.
“Let’s just hope he doesn’t kick our butts for being in his room,” Bella said, laughing a little, sitting next Indie on the back of Scott’s bed.
Melanie simply shook her head.
“You’d think saving his life would be enough to get him to reconsider,” Anton added, “I mean come on, he’s not that possessive is he?”
The looks from the twins, Melanie and Paul, were enough to answer his question.
“Guess we’ll just have to take the praise while it lasts, then run screaming for the hills,” Bella laughed.
“Don’t think of praise just yet, kids,” Melanie put in, “we still have to find him.”
“Which is why all of you should stick a sock in your gob, and listen,” Indie began, “I tried to use his personal effects to get a better connection to him, but the thing is, he must be real far away, because I’m coming up empty.”
Concerned faces filled a moment’s silence, before Anton spoke.
“Where’s You-Know-Who when you get him?” he asked, “And how clear is it?”
Indie’s eyes lowered. She bit her lip, giving her a chance to think of the best way to phrase her next words.
“You-Know-Who is far away, when you consider it in a matter of flying,” she said, “but I can still read him, crystal clear. I’ve gotten to him enough times, there’s a ready-made path each time, a connection.”
“There should be one with Scott though, right?” Bella asked.
“Yeah, I mean, you get in all our heads annoyingly, why should he be an exception?” was Melanie’s confronting, but not rude reply.
“That’s what I’m trying to say!” Indie exclaimed, “There’s a connection there, a big one, but I can’t get it. It’s out of my grasp. I need…I need more power.”
“More power?!” Anton cried, “Ind, you’re more powerful than all of us put together, how in goblin’s name –“
“No, Anton, I’m not,” Indie said bluntly.
“And how do you figure that one out, bubble head?”
“Bella, just because I’m a Legillimens, doesn’t mean that I’m powerful,” she said, “why do you think I barely pass Charms? You guys are all much more powerful than me, luck of the last, I guess.”
“What are you trying to say?” Melanie asked, her anticipation riding her pitch.
Handing the necklace to Melanie, the frame to Bella and To Kill a Mockingbird to the boys, Indie spoke again.
“I’m saying, we need to find him,” she said, “as a collective. You know a…a five heads are better than one sort of deal.”
The siblings shared a moment of laughter, looking between themselves for a few moments, before the noise died down gradually.
“Well, place all the objects in the center –“
“Not objects, Mel, their treasures,” Bella interrupted.
“Whatever –“
“No, Mel, Bella’s right,” Anton said, “To find someone, you have to form an attachment. That doesn’t happen when you dismiss their most prized possessions as ‘whatever’.”
“Anton’s right,” Indie said, before snapping up, “wow, I can’t believe I just said that.”
“Get a life,” Anton spat, not looking from the circle of treasures in the middle of their circle. Indie giggled, before taking her wand from her pocket, and placing it on top of the objects.
“Put the tips in the middle, and make sure each treasure is touching a wand,” Indie said, Bella quickly following suit, before taking Indie’s hand.
“Right, Legillimens 101 –“
“In 30 seconds?” Paul challenged.
“It would have been if you hadn’t interrupted, now we’re limited to 25!” Indie snapped.
“Right, close your eyes,” she instructed, her siblings now taking the hands of the person beside them, forming a circle.
“Feel the connection between yourself and your wand, each other, the treasures in the middle. Form yourself the greatest possible connection in your mind with Scott. A memory, experience, a sense…anything.”
She could feel the minds in the room strengthening, breaking out from their normal barriers.
“Good, now let your mind wander,” she added, “feel yourself moving through the room, in and out of the wands, the book, the necklace…feel your mind leaving your body. Focus on the essence of Scott in the objects. Know the emotions, the sights, the sounds…everything that you can associate with Scott, get it into your senses.”
The power was building, Indie could feel it. The room was pulsing with energy, memories of their oldest brother flashing around their subconscious.
“We’re nearly there, guys,” she urged, “now, take that energy, that essence, and push it out of the room, send it running across all corners of the world. When you find a link, latch onto it. If it’s weak, take a closer look, if it’s strong, be wary and move on. The mind and the heart make their own connections, we just have to acknowledge them.”
The wind was whistling outside, as the five Stewarts sat in a circle on the bed, their minds reaching out into the abyss, searching for a spark that had gone out.
Then something changed. A great lurch threw all their minds hurtling in one direction. They were side by side, flying; Indie could feel the hope building in one of them.
And the fear.
Bella screamed, clinging tighter to Indie’s hand as her fearful shrieks broke out.
“Hold on, Bella!” Indie cried, pushing her mind to the very limit.
She could hear her sister whimpering beside her, but she didn’t back down.
Anton was clenching on her left, his small impulses of noise telling her something was wrong.
Mel was still pushing, full speed ahead, and Paul was right on her heels.
“Guys, slow it down, something’s wrong!” Indie cried, as Bella let another scream, followed by a cry from Melanie and a yell from Anton. Paul was tense, but pushing through.
The world was green, and dark. Cackling filled the air, of a pitch and tone Indie knew of all too well.
The gleeful shrieking of Bellatrix Lestrange illuminated the space, the piercing eyes of Lord Voldemort watching on the event they were all now bearing witness too.
They were staring straight at the Dark Lord, the laugh of his evil minion coming from behind them.
It was now, Indie realised, they had found Scott. In fact, they were Scott, at this moment in time.
He was surrounded by bleak, gray walls, rusty but fortified bars, that reminded Indie of a prison cell. “Prison!”
A zap of red shook the world, as all five let out shrieks of pain, Bellatrix performing her favored Cruciatus Curse on their oldest brother. “Talk you filthy half-blood, TALK!”
“Now now, Bella, we want him speak, not go mad like the Longbottoms.”
“Yes, My Lord!”
Again, the cackle exploded, followed by another shock of red.
They had seen enough. Indie pulled firmly out of Scott’s mind, taking her siblings reluctantly with her. There were shrieks, yells and screams from all of them, as the returning to their own bodies shocked them alive. Sitting in a panting, fearful circle on the bed, with banging at the door, Indie couldn’t bear to look up at her family. The banging at the door stopped, as Remus, Tonks, Sirius and Mrs Weasley all filed into the room, incoherently asking “Are you okay?” and “Oh my goodness, what happened?”
Indie recovered, and looked straight up at Sirius.
“Did you get him?” he asked quietly, staring straight into Indie’s blue eyes. She could see the pain and suffering in them, from his own experiences that were similar to Scott’s. Indie simply nodded, all eyes and ears waiting anxiously for an answer.
“He’s in Azkaban.”
Oh my! I did not see that coming!!
I love though how she didn't get the connection unless her siblings joined her.
I can't wait for more, and I'm glad this one was long. It was worth the wait.
Hey Kae, that was wonderful! Oh my goodness! I was wondering if Indie was having trouble finding him because Azkaban is basically an unknown location, so she couldn't find him, or was it because he was being tormented by the Dementors, and Bella. At any rate, it was breath taking riding along while the brothers and sisters banded together and was on the journey to find him. I can't wait to read more! I'll be watching for your next chapter. |
damn time differences keeping me awake at ungodly hours.......anyways, here's the newest chapter!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Chapter Twenty Nine
“Tell me the plan again,” Sirius asked, pacing around the kitchen, before taking his regular seat at the head of the table. The residents of Grimmauld Place were painfully quiet, as Indie looked between the group.
“Sirius, we don’t really have a plan,” she said, “at this point, all we’ve got is ‘divide and conquer’.”
He groaned in frustration, standing up and pulling at his hair.
“Well, they haven’t exactly got a lot to go on,” Tonks said, shooting a look Indie’s way. The look given in return was one of disbelief.
“There’s only so much I can do, Dora,” she said angrily.
“Yeah, well, it’s not enough!”
“Where is this coming from?”
“He’s your brother; you should be trying harder to save his life!”
“Why are you pinning this on me?”
“Because you’re the one with the most power –you’re the only one who can!”
“THAT’S ENOUGH!” Bella screamed.
She’d somehow found her way up onto a chair, standing on it at the opposite end of the long table.
“I am so sick and tired of hearing all of you heap it onto Indie for not doing enough, when she’s doing everything she can!” she began, in a calmer tone.
“She spent her summer putting herself through hell, not because she wanted to, because it was her ‘duty’,” Bella continued, “when she slept at night, all you can hear is her tossing and turning and moaning, because she’s having nightmares about the things she’s seen. Some days, she was so weak she couldn’t even drag herself out of bed, but she still spent hours sifting through thoughts, memories and plans. So don’t you dare tell me she isn’t doing everything she can and that she is alone in what she’s doing to save everyone’s necks.”
All eyes in the room were rested on Bella, who climbed down from her chair and looked to her youngest sister.
“Thank you, Bella,” she said, walking forward and putting her fists on the table, looking around her company.
“Listen to me,” she began, “each and every person in this room has a credit to the Order. It doesn’t matter what it is or how you show it, but you all do. We all have a duty here, not just me, not just Harry, not just anyone. We’re all here for one reason; to fight for what we believe in, what we love, and save it before it’s too late. And that starts with working together, not arguing over who’s got a greater responsibility or who could be doing more. We’ve all got a responsibility here, and as far as I’m concerned, we’re all fulfilling it.”
Sirius’ face came out of the shadows, a smile on his face and a glint in his eye.
“Well, we better start with a plan,” he said, sitting at the table’s head, the group around him following suit.
“Now, Indie, what can you tell us about the room he was in?”
Indie scoffed.
“You want me to describe a single room in Azkaban?” she asked, “Isn’t that like describing a particular leaf on a tree?”
“She has a point,” Anton said, sighing.
“Were there any abnormalities, anything unusual?” Remus asked, looking right into Indie’s blue eyes.
Her brow furrowed, as she thought, reliving the moment in her mind. A sideways glance at her siblings told her they were doing the same.
“It seemed larger than it should have been,” Paul intervened, “it wasn’t a regular cell, maybe a warden’s room or something.”
“He’s right,” Mel agreed, “it wasn’t your garden-variety cell, I remember a window, on the southern end of the room.”
“Are you sure?” Sirius asked.
“Positive.”
Sirius pulled out his wand, using it to conjure up a virtual model of the Azkaban prison. Some parts were blank, but others were in great detail.
“Now, I don’t know the whole prison, but I do know where the important rooms are, including the one you’re talking about,” he said, “but, the problem will be figuring out where Voldemort’s guard is stationed.”
Indie looked to Bella, who was sitting beside her. She held out her hand to her, grasping her wand in the other. Her sister gave her a fearful look, her eyes darting from Indie’s hand to her face, as she gave a small head shake.
“Indie, I can’t –“
“Yes, you can.”
Reluctantly and shaking, Bella took her sister’s hand and pulled out her wand, directing it at Sirius’s Azkaban. The two closed their eyes, and breathed deeply. This journey to Azkaban was quicker, and less eventful. Now, Scott was sitting on the ground in the same room he was in previously, Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange nowhere to be seen. Good, Indie thought, knowing both that he was okay, and that he was left alone for some time.
She let herself and Bella wander quickly and purposefully through the halls of Azkaban, noting every Death Eater and his wand at every corner, room and entrance. Indie could feel the fear slowly leaving Bella, as they reached the northern end of the prison, completing their task.
Upon returning to Grimmauld Place, they opened their eyes, and saw the representative Azkaban now filled with tiny figures replicating Death Eaters. Voldemort was not there, and nor was Bellatrix, but Indie doubted they would be far behind.
“Right,” Sirius said, almost gleefully at the power of the young Stewarts, “now, we can make a plan!”
Hey Kae, great to have another post. Thanks for letting me know. it seems like the notification by e-mail is sooooo slow, anyway, I've read and love the post. Yea Bella; Quote:
“THAT’S ENOUGH!” Bella screamed.
“THAT’S ENOUGH!” Bella screamed.
I'm glad she and Indie got everyone on the same page. A group can't funtion effeciently when they're scattered in thoughts. Quote:
noting every Death Eater and his wand at every corner
I didn't know they had wands.
I hope Scott is ok, and I'm anxious to read about them breaking him out; that will be some really good reading.
I was wondering; Like when Indie and Bella was just there in mind, (at Azkaban) could Scott feel their presence? It seems like he should be able to, but then that might tip off the Dementors that he has a renewed hope and they'll be watching for the rescue party.
Great post Kae, I'll be watching for your next. |
hey yáll, how you doing??
so, i know this chapter s a little shorter than normal, but im on a deadline cos the stupid sister wants the computer. yes, its 3am, what of it! i write better when i can't sleep (:
so, here it is, my thirtieth chapter, that is surprisingly, dialogue free... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chapter Thirty
The plan was simple; storm subtly, grab Scott, get the heck out.
It was a good plan, Indie gave it that, but it was so volatile, it was making her hands sweat. She stood with her sisters amongst trees in the small square opposite 12 Grimmauld Place. She could see Lupin and Sirius accompanying her brothers over from them, equally hidden by foliage. Tonks took two steps toward them from behind, signalling the siege was beginning.
Bella and Melanie joined hands, while Tonks, Indie and the boys all stood alone. The square was empty, and at this time of night they’d agreed the likelihood of onlookers was slim. Indie raised her wand, closed her eyes and took a deep breath. An image of Azkaban illuminated in front of her, and, moments later, as did the small figures of Death Eaters and Voldemort. She’d spent the afternoon listening, tracking and formulating a break-in route, and it was about to pay off. Voldemort had retired to his hiding place somewhere in the north of England, Bellatrix following like a lovesick puppy.
That meant there were only Death Eaters to contend with, and not so many of them at that. They were scattered about the prison fairly haphazardly, leaving a direct path to Scott, where two Death Eaters were guarding the door.
Remus was to go first with Paul, the combined strength of their Patronuses enough to drive the Dementors away. Granted, there were nowhere near as many as there had been previously. They were presumably off appeasing Voldemort.
With that thought, there was a pop and Remus and Paul disappeared. Moments later, their silhouettes were visible clinging to the higher, outer walls of Azkaban, a bright light signalling their plan was well underway. With that, Sirius and Anton disappeared too, appearing at the agreed entry point, closely followed by Remus and Paul.
They moved swiftly yet cautiously through the narrow, gray corridors, and reached the T intersection that signalled it was time for Tonks to accompany Melanie to the prison. In an instant, Indie and Melanie were left alone in the Square, the image of their six colleagues crouching and moving through Azkaban appearing in the square.
Now, it was their turn. Joining hands, they drove their minds from their bodies, weaving them in and out of thunderstorms, city scapes, and finally an open expanse of churning ocean. They arrived mentally in Azkaban’s halls, following the same route their partners had done moments ago. However, instead of pausing, they continued, forcing themselves into the workings of the Death Eaters guarding Scott’s door.
Indie was glad Bella had been receptive to her Legillimency teachings, moreso than her other siblings. It was for this reason, that Indie had opted for her to join her in this arm of the siege.
Their minds became the Death Eaters’ minds; walking forward toward the corner around which members of the Order were hidden. In the moment before they were met with ‘Stupefy!’, Indie and Bella withdrew, returning alarmingly back to their own surroundings. They watched the constructed scene of the Death Eater’s crumpling in front of them, before Bella quickly took Indie’s hand and they popped out of the square, the transparent Azkaban dissolving too.
They arrived beside the group, who were standing around the Death Eaters, their wands at the ready. Upon their appearance, the group turned toward the door of the Warden’s Office, where Scott was being held.
This part had to be quick, set-up properly or more than one wouldn’t make it out alive. Indie put her left shoulder to the door, as Bella took her spot just beside the frame, ready to follow her sister in. Tonks stacked behind Indie, followed by Remus. Paul took his place behind Bella, while Anton and Sirius took up the rear.
Indie took the time to mouth out a count. On three, a silent spell blasted the door wide open, as Indie led the team into the room, her stride heading straight for Scott. Bella’s shoulder was flush against Indie’s, while Tonks and Paul made a ‘V’ formation on their outsides. Melanie, Remus, Anton and Sirius scanned the room, their wands raised for defence as Indie and Bella took Scott by his arms and Disapparated instantly. Tonks and Paul took a quick look around where he’d been seated, noticed nothing, and followed Indie and Bella almost instantaneously. Anton and Melanie finished their side of the room, and left as soon as possible.
Remus and Sirius lingered, taking in anything and everything. There was nothing telling about the room, not to why he’d been taken or any of the events that had taken place. There was no indication that he’d even been there, aside from the smallest of blood smears on the wall. They turned to face each other, nodded, and in moment, were gone.
Indie and Bella pulled Scott up the hall, slumping him over an armchair in the living room. Tonks fell instantly to her knees by his side, as Melanie, Paul and Anton joined the small group in the room. Melanie had had the sense to bring a glass of water, some bandages and a small blanket. Not that it would cover Scott’s gigantic body, but it was the thought that counted.
Remus and Sirius walked in conversing moments later. They glanced momentarily at the congregation in the room, before beelining straight for the kitchen. Indie could hear Molly Weasley’s despair through the walls, and her sigh of relief when told that Scott was indeed safe.
Indie laid a hand on Bella’s shoulder, indicating with her head that she was headed to the kitchen. Bella gave a nod, and small, defeated, toothless smile, and turned back to Scott.
The youngest, blonde Stewart took even and slow strides into the kitchen, where Sirius and Remus were muttering under their breath incoherently. Upon feeling Indie’s presence, they stopped and looked to her. Their confused, pained expressions told Indie everything she needed to know, and quite knowingly suspected about the situation.
They were absolutely not safe.
Hey Key, I really liked this chapter. I love how you set the setting for this chapter; Quote:
It was a good plan, Indie gave it that, but it was so volatile, it was making her hands sweat.
I found out right from the start that this was going to be a very suspenseful chapter. I read it clear through with bated breath and kept expecting the the other shoe to drop; and then it did; Quote:
Their confused, pained expressions told Indie everything she needed to know, and quite knowingly suspected about the situation.
They were absolutely not safe.
Heart pounding in my chest and taking a deep breath, I ask you .... Is it right that you leave us hanging so long with only our imaginations; running wild and stirring up problems they might not have?
Great job Kae, it really was a great chapter and I'm so anxious for you to post the next one. Will we find out what Sirius and Remus were so discreetly discussing soon? What is the danger now? And is Scott really ok? I'll be watching for your next. |
