~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Chapter Twenty - I'm The Psychic
Walking as fast as she could, up all the moving staircases and through the long corridors of Hogwarts, Indie was running over many thoughts in her head.
"Indie!" Harry called, having trouble keeping up with te tiny blonde, "What do you mean you know? Who was it?"
Pausing for a moment outside Dumbledore's gargoyle, she realised she didn't know the password yet...
Sighing, she turned to Harry.
Holding up the newspaper, she pointed to the mad woman.
"It was her," she said, a tremble in her voice, "I remembered the hair, the eyes....the scream...."
Taking the Daily Prophet from Indie, Harry read the caption aloud.
"Bellatrix Lestrange?" he murmured, confused, as he didn't actually know who this particular witch was.
A raised eyebrow from Indie met his confusion.
"You don't know who this is?" she asked, "Harry! You're friends with me AND Neville, yet you still don't know Bellatrix Lestrange?"
Although, you couldn't really blame the boy, he did live in MuggleVille when he wasn't at school.
"Don't you recognise her, though?" she asked, taking the paper back from him and holding it up again, "From Grimmauld Place?"
Indie saw the light in Harry's eyes as realization hit, but it left soon after as he realised just who Sirius had introduced her as.
"She was on the wall," he muttered, "Sirius' cousin..."
"Yes," she said, nodding, "and also Dora and Malfoy's aunt."
The gargoyle moving startled them both, as Indie made no haste in stepping onto the moving staircase that took her to Dumbledore.
"Harry, she has a reputation, and not a good one," she began, "my parents were at school around the same time, and that was when MouldyWart started his little 'gang'. She was absolutely in love with him, infatuated, and still now is his most loyal servant."
The staircase stopped, as did Indie's narrating, as she headed for the big, wooden door, behind which was Dumbledore's office.
"So you mean, that this mass breakout was Voldemort's doing?" he asked his eyes wide now.
"Don't say his name," Indie said, "and yes, of course it is, he needs an army, so he's breaking his Death Eaters out of Azkaban."
"Come in," came the quiet voice of Albus Dumbledore, as Indie made her way in to see him sat at his desk.
He looked pleasantly surprised to see Indie and Harry his eyes twinkling over his half-moon glasses.
"Ah, to what do I owe this pleasure today?" he asked, popping a licorice snap into his mouth, smiling.
"Good Afternoon, Professor," Indie began, "I was reading the paper today, and it would seem that last night's events are somewhat, reformed, in my mind."
Harry noticed the distinct difference between how she spoke to Dumbledore, and how she spoke to others.
"I see," Dumbledore murmured, after a moment of silence. Looking to Indie, a confused look once agian set on Harry's face, he noticed she held a blank expression, as if she weren't quite awake.
Dumbledore on the other hand looked as though he were watching an excellent movie, but looked straight back at Indie as the credits began to roll.
"So you have worked out who your attacker is?" he asked, taking the Daily Prophet from Indie's outstretched arm.
"Yes, Sir," she added, "Bellatrix Lestrange was the attacker, but as for her company, I cannot say."
"There was another, yes," Dumbledore said, contemplating thoughts in his brilliant mind, as Indie opened her mouth to speak again.
"His mind was familiar, like a book I'd read before," she said, "I can't put my wand on it..."
"His identity will come to you in time, Indie," he said, standing and walking toward the two fifth years, "Just, for now, concentrate on your classes. This is your O.W.L year, you can't afford to be taking unnecessary trips to the minds of others."
Laughing quietly, Indie nodded, Harry now beside her as they headed out.
"Yes, Professor," she added, smiling, "Enjoy your afternoon."
A light wave accompanied them out the door, as Harry looked quizzically at Indie on their way down the stairs.
Indie noticed of course, and knew exactly why.
"I hold a lot of respect for Dumbledore," she said, turning to Harry, "you should make priority to remember that."
Harry was puzzled. He'd ever seen the serious side of Indie before, and certainly had never been at the wrong end of her temper.
"What do you mean?" he asked, "I respect Dumbledore just as much as you do."
"No, you don't."
"Yes, Indie, I do."
"No, Harry, you don't."
"Yes, I -"
"Harry!"
Ron's voice amongst the spat caused both heads to turn.
"There you are!" he said, walking quickly toward the pair, but not looking to Indie at all, "We've got to get to Hagrid's, mate."
Harry didn't bother saying goodbye to Indie, but instead followed Ron without a look back.
Indie knew she'd offended Harry, but she was right. He didn't hold the same respect for their headmaster; he wanted to know how and why for everything he did. He thought he was close to him. But Indie knew that, Dumbledore, in all his brilliance, had his reasons. And often, would not endeavour to make close relations in fear of loss.
But, that's just what Indie could gather from her knowledge of his history.
She let her mind drift along after Harry, wanting to leave her footprint firmly on his conscious. There were other places she'd like to leave her footprint, but that would be for later, when he was actually in reach of her foot. "Just remember, Harry," she said, as she turned to make her way to the lower levels, "I'm the psychic."
Hello Kae! Happy New Year! I loved your post Kae. Very nicely written. Quote:
Harry noticed the distinct difference between how she spoke to Dumbledore, and how she spoke to others.
"I see," Dumbledore murmured, after a moment of silence. Looking to Indie, a confused look once agian set on Harry's face, he noticed she held a blank expression, as if she weren't quite awake.
Was she just making sure she didn't get in his mind? Or was she allowing him to get in hers, so they can communicate without Harry knowing what was being said? Quote:
"His mind was familiar, like a book I'd read before," she said, "I can't put my wand on it..."
Don't you just hate it when that happens?!?!?!? Quote:
"His identity will come to you in time, Indie," he said, standing and walking toward the two fifth years, "Just, for now, concentrate on your classes. This is your O.W.L year, you can't afford to be taking unnecessary trips to the minds of others."
OK, yes, well while this is true, I don't think it's right of him to brush her off like that. (He did the same thing with Harry in the OOTP when Harry told him about Malfoy.) I respect your light on this , saying that Dumbledore simply has his reasons, but, I still say he could have shown respect himself. Quote:
She let her mind drift along after Harry, wanting to leave her footprint firmly on his conscious. There were other places she'd like to leave her footprint, but that would be for later, when he was actually in reach of her foot.
"Just remember, Harry," she said, as she turned to make her way to the lower levels,
"I'm the psychic."
I loved the way you ended this post Kae. Wonderful!Great post. I'll be watching for your next. |
okay, gosh, stop nagging!! :p here's a new chapter for you my lovely (:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Chapter Twenty One - Lunchtime It Is...
Indie could actually bring herself to do any homework when she got back to the common room that night. Of course, there was the chirping Hermione in her ear;
"...you know, you really ought to keep on top of your work, I'm not always going to be here to help, you know..."
It almost gave her a headache, the way she would go on...and on....and ON!
But, what Hermione failed (that's right, FAILED!) to comprehend, was the fact that even if she didn't want to tell Indie, she still had her ways. Oh, how forgetful people could be!
"Hermione, I'd love to accompany you to discuss the history of Goblin Rights," she said, her sarcasm as believable as a ginger Ron, "but I'd much prefer my throbbing head on a pillow."
Plodding clumsily up the stairs, Indie could feel her eyes nearly at a close before she'd even reached the dormitory door.
"Indie!" Oh god, what now!?
"Oh, hey there, Harry!"
Suddenly, she sounded more awake than she'd been that whole day. Although, she wasn't too sure why; last time she checked she wanted to kick Harry in the...backside.
"Hi," he said, stopping on the same step as Indie, even though his dormitory was further around the spiral stairs.
"Look," he began, "I just wanted to say that, it kind of felt like...kind of if you might be...well, you know it sort of seemed like..."
Oh, for God's sake, this could go on forever!
"Harry," Indie interrupted, his stuttering and stammering pausing as he looked up from his hands to her, "spit it out mate!"
He laughed nervously.
"Oh, right, erm..."
Indie was growing impatient, and her mind wasn't always constrained when she was cranky, and she worked out - a lot quicker, might it be known - what he was trying to say.
"Harry, I was never mad at you," she said, "I just thought you'd be able to realise that there are things I know about people that others don't. Even though they don't even realise I know."
How could she explain this, to a fifteen year old boy no less!
However, Harry seemed to understand...marginly.
"Okay, well, that's good, I guess, erm..."
"Oh, for crying out loud Harry!" Indie exclaimed, "Just say what you want to say already! Because I'm sure you'd much rather tell me than me finding out myself."
Considering for a moment, Harry blinked at her a few times before nodding.
"Yeah, that's probably true," he said, laughing.
Laughing also, Indie shook her head lightly, her blonde hair falling over her shoulder.
"Well, erm...what I did want to say was..."
Indie's heart began to beat a little faster, not that she was expecting anything significant...much...
"Yes?"
She wanted badly to let her mind go, know EXACTLY what he was going to say, but she knew that would ruin it. Particularly if he never built up the courage.
"Erm..." he hesitated, before speaking his next words extremely fast, "YouknowhowIaskedyoutomeetmeatHagrid's?"
Scoffing a little, Indie wondered how on Earth she was meant to understand tha.
"I beg yours?" she said, laughing, "All I got from that was 'Hagrid's'!"
"Yes, erm..."
This time, he chose to speak at human speed, not gibberish speed.
"You know how I asked you to meet me at Hagrid's?"
Indie nodded slowly, that flutter in her stomach back again.
"Well, erm...perhaps you could meet me there tomorrow, instead. Say, lunchtime?"
Nodding again, this time a little faster, Indie couldn't help but smile. It wasn't a regular smile though, it was one of those gimpy show-every-tooth-including-your-wisdoms smiles. But, either way, Harry returned the favor in a similar, gimpy fashion.
Although, she wasn't sure whether her face matched her gut. She still had the butterflies, but they'd sunk a little. They weren't as graceful as before...
However, before Harry left to go to his dormitory, Indie managed to muster up a few words, no matter how stupid she thought they'd sound.
"Lunchtime it is..."

Hello Kae. I was so happy to see you posted another chapter. I've been having trouble with my computer, and while I could read new posts, I didn't trust it to comment hardly at all. But, I think I can now. I'll give it a try anyway. I love the way you set the scene of, Indie, being so tired she could barely drag herself along. Her little back and forth with Hermione added to the scene and made her mood very believable. And then true to what love does to a person, she perked up when Harry meets her on the starewell. I loved that so much! Very nice writing.
It was cute how you made Harry all shy and uncomfortable when he was trying to ask her to meet at Hagrids the following day, just like when in GOF he was trying to ask Cho to the Ball. So adorable. Again, very well written.
This was my favorite part: Quote:

I could so easily see this in my mind. Very pleasant reading Kae. Very well written, and I can't wait to read the next. I'll be watching. |

EDIT:: Chapter Twenty Two – Dumbledore. Now!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
The moonlight caught Indie’s hair as she walked slowly through the grounds. Wait, no, it was sunlight. Was it? The sky was dark, but the moon was so bright she couldn’t stand to look at it. It had to be the sun, there was no other theory that could be true.
“Harry?” she called, as a dark haired figure appeared just ahead of her. Her belly was rumbling, which meant…it was lunchtime! She’d been dreaming of this all night, for what reason, she didn’t know.
Wait, wasn’t it still night time?
“Harry!” she called again, as the person was walking away from her.
“Harry, wait for me! I’m coming!”
She ran, her robes tripping her and causing her to stumble. She realised she wasn’t wearing shoes.
Where did they go? She hadn’t noticed her feet were bare until then.
Now, it was light. The sky was blue, the sun making her eyes glint if you were to look at them.
But Harry was still walking away!
“Harry, where are you going? And why on earth are you wearing a cloak?” she called, running after him, her robes suddenly gone.
It occurred to her suddenly, that this may not actually be reality. Like she’d fallen down the rabbit hole to a world where things happened for no reason and had no sense. A world gone mad.
Another epiphany came to her almost simultaneous with her doubts of reality; the person in front of her was not Harry. The person was starting to turn, revealing the pale, cold, almost snake-like skin that belonged to a villain she knew all to well.
A fearful, high-pitched gasp caught her, the figure not resembling Voldemort as she first assumed. Well, technically, you could say it was Voldemort, but rather his human state; Tom Riddle. The dark hair made sense now, but the skin and…eyes…not so much.
“Why are you here?” she asked, as she placed her hand on her hip. Not for comfort, but to ensure her hand was in close range of her wand, should she need it.
He was speaking, but not in English, or any human language for that matter.
“I don’t speak Parseltongue!” she exclaimed, frustrated and scared now, as Riddle began to walk toward her, still muttering in the snake language.
Her wand was in front of her, but it was whisked away by another person, one with a wicked laugh, wild hair and crazy eyes.
Bellatrix Lestrange was now standing opposite her, Tom Riddle gone. However, his voice was still surrounding her, booming of the trees and the canopy of the forest, as Bellatrix now began closing in on her. The madwoman’s manic laugh was also echoing about the enclosure, as she ran full speed at Indie. A shriek, followed by a sudden drop to a cowering position left the young girl waiting for a strike that never came. The laugh, and the voice was still there, but when she looked up, she was quite alone.
The noises here fading now, and it was an almost ear splitting silence. Not wanting to stay, she turned on her heel, to run into Harry. The endless encounters becoming to much, she fell to her knees, tears arriving, as fear took over her whole body.
“How can you be the one to save us all?” Harry accused, his eyes hard and menacing as he stared down on a trembling Indie.
“You can’t even handle a couple of hallucinations!”
“Me?” Indie cried, “I’m not the Chosen One, you are!”
“Stop fooling yourself!” he yelled, his voice echoing, as Bellatrix’s laugh and Riddle’s Parseltongue came flooding back.
“You know as well as anybody no one can fight without your help!” he bellowed, “What kind of Gryffindor are you? COWARD!”
“The noise, I can’t stand it!” Indie screamed, covering her ears and reeling in pain and fear.
“WHAT KIND OF GRYFFINDOR ARE YOU?”
“YOU CAN’T SAVE US!”
“COWARD!”
“WHAT KIND OF GRYFFINDOR ARE YOU?”
“YOU CAN’T SAVE US!”
“COWARD!”
“WHAT KIND OF GRYFFINDOR ARE YOU?”
“YOU CAN’T SAVE US!”
“COWARD!”
“Indie.”
“WHAT KIND OF GRYFFINDOR ARE YOU?”
“YOU CAN’T SAVE US!”
“COWARD!”
“Indie!”
“WHAT KIND OF GRYFFINDOR ARE YOU?”
“YOU CAN’T SAVE US!”
“COWARD!”
“INDIE!”
She sat up, screaming, sweating, and in tears.
She was staring at her roommates, Hermione among them, the most worried of them. The others simply looked annoyed that they’d been awoken.
“Indie, what’s wrong?” Hermione asked, sitting on the edge of the bed and looking the emotional girl straight in the eyes.
Her voice; that was the one she could only just hear among all the chaos in her nightmare.
Panting, Indie was unable to muster up any words, nothing short of a whimper at least. Was it really a nightmare? It felt almost real, but it was a mad world, one where Alice might feel quite content in.
“Indie?” Hermione said again, quieter this time. The other girls had gone back to their beds now, knowing that Indie was no longer keeping them up.
Muttering something incoherently under her breath, Indie pushed her covers aside and began to stand.
“Indie, stop,” Hermione began, standing up also, and racing to support a weak and exhausted Indie.
“Dumbledore. Now!”
Hello Kae. Very suspenseful chapter, and very well written. I'm curious about this person. Quote:
It felt almost real, but it was a mad world, one where Alice might feel quite content in.
Do we know who Alice is? I'm so sorry if she was introduced earlier and I forgot her. I honestly don't remember her. Is she just someone who popped into Indie's head as if she knew who she was? Is she someone from the future, no scratch that, the past? I am most curious to read more about her. Will we read about her later?
It's good Hermione is such a good friend. Taking her to see Dumbledore is a good idea? But what if they get caught? I can't wait for your next post! Great chapter and I'll be watching for your next. |
Ah Ha! I had a feeling that's what it was. That's what I had in mind when I asked was she someone that popped into her head. I thought of Alice In Wonderland as I read it. But I didn't want to make that my only assumption. You did a wonderful job in your layout. Made it your own. Great writing. I'll be watching for your new chapter.
sorry for making it the night after, but my laptop hated me last night.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chapter Twenty Three - She Had To Do It Now
After being convinced endlessly by Hermione, Indie was once again asleep. However uneasy, she managed to wake up when the sun came in the window feeling a little more refreshed and relaxed than she had a few hours ago.
Sighing, she rilled over to look around the room. It was empty, aside from Hermione's cat, Crookshanks. Sitting up, she looked around, confused. The sun was brighter than it normally was when she got up for classes, meaning she had over slept. Reaching anxiously for the watch on her bedside table, she put her hands on a piece of parchment instead. Indie,
I've taken this opportunity to allow you the morning off classes. Should you feel you need to catch up on any missed homework, you will find your notes in the drawer of your bedside table.
Regards,
Dumbledore
Huh, well that explained why she was alone, and why the sun was so bright. And, why her stomach was rumbling. Luckily, it wasn't lunchtime yet.
Dressing slowly and clumsily, Indie was able to make her way to the Great Hall just in time for the lunch banquet. Sure, it wasn't exactly a breakfast menu, but she wasn't complaining.
"Hey, Indie!"
Harry's voice caught Indie by surprise, as he headed toward her.
"You weren't in class this morning," he said, looking worried, "is everything okay? Hermione said something -"
"Harry, it's fine," she said, shouldering past him to the table, where she found her siblings, Hermione and the Weasleys.
They were already having small, incoherent conversations with one another, but that stopped when Indie sat down. She felt as though every eye there was on her, and it was making her feel uncomfortable, and her appetite decided to disappear.
Looking awkwardly down at her plate, chewing the croissant she'd just taken, Indie felt a body beside her. Really close beside her. Glancing through her peripherals, she noticed it was Harry, but chose not to mention or do anything...
"So, Hermione, are you excited for midterms?" Bella asked, a glint in her eye and sarcasm in her voice.
A few giggles escaped, and few heads shook, but Hermione just rolled her eyes.
"Of course I am, aside from Defence Against the Dark Arts..."
A few murmurs of agreement followed. However, the lunch continued to be exceedingly...awkward...
Before long (actually, it felt like an eternity), they were headed to class.
"Indie."
Feeling herself being pulled aside, she found herself in a small hole in the wall squished up next to Harry.
"Yes, Harry?" she asked, her tone indifferent.
She wasn't sure why she was treating Harry like this; she knew he wasn't the one from her nightmare, but i was still kind of...haunting.
"I, sort of, feel like I may have done, something..."
Indie pulled away.
"Harry, listen, it's not you, really," she said quietly, feeling the tears welling and her throat closing, "I just - I just - need to - get over something. Something that - that - is kind of...haunting me, right now..."
She looked up at him, from her slightly lower vantage point, her eyes wet and red.
All he could do was nod, and began to walk away.
"But, listen," he stopped, "I still want you to meet me out by Hagrid's place, after last class."
Indie smiled, the tears still almost overflowing, but she held herself together. Nodding, she allowed him to go to his class, a smile on his face as he went.
She started to walk away too, but paused, and turned to head back the other direction. It was the quickest way to Dumbledore's office. She may have been talked out of it last night, but after the confrontation with Harry, she knew one thing.
She had to do it now.

Hello Kae. My heart is just breaking for Indie! This is such a strain on her! Poor Indie. I love the scene you created when Harry pulled Indy into the small hole in the wall. Quote:

Just loved it.
So she is going to Dumbledore's office now. I hope she gets the help from him she needs. Like I hope he doesn't just say, It's best if you don't dwell on these things Indie. Or, I'm sure there's nothing for you to be worried about here. Just concentrate on your schoolwork. I can't wait to read your next chapter. |

im here!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Chapter Twenty Four - Time For A Change
She made no haste to get to Dumbledore's office, continuing along the corridors at her regular pace. It seemed to work just fine for her. Indie knew she had to tell Dumbledore what had happened. There were too many possibilities, and not enough solutions that Indie could manage to collect on her own.
But, even though she had more pressing matters on her mind, or rather, in it, she still couldn't help but let one niggling thought push everything else aside.
She was supposed to be meeting with Harry today, after classes ended. Her stubbornness had gotten her this far with believing there were no feelings in her heart for him. Too bad her heart was always going to be the one that won out in the end.
"Sherbert Lemon."
Before her emotions could get in the way of her better judgement, Indie had reached Dumbledore's office, and her privileges allowed her to climb the staircases to the huge doors that Dumbledore was most likely sitting behind.
"Come in."
To some, the Hogwarts Headmaster's mind tricks might have wowed some, but Indie was fairly used to them by now.
"Good afternoon, Professor," she said, smiling as she took a seat opposite, "difficult morning?"
He looked more tired than usual, more rundown. She didn't blame him, with all that was going on in the school, in the wizarding world and not to mention the Daily Prophet taking every opportunity it had to slander Dumbledore.
"Not difficult, simply productive," he said, smiling, "unfortunately porductivity can often end in weariness. Always be mindful of that."
Nodding, Indie let her smile drop into a more serious expression, as she began to recount the night terror in it's entirety. Well, no more tell than show.
Looking thoughtful, though not concerned, Dumbledore adjusted his posture before speaking.
"It is my belief, Indie, that this is not a deterrent from the other side," he began, his blue eyes meeting hers in the moment of relief.
"However," he continued, not allowing Indie to finish her internal sigh of relief, "you should not let this occurrence tamper with your judgement. Ï urge you strongly to not pursue this tangent further, for fear of you tripping without a hand to help you up again."
Indie was one of the few people who could fully understand Dumbledore's crypticism, but that didn't mean she was always in agreement with it.
"What if it happens again, Professor?" she began, "What will I do if the memory haunts me, and impedes on my...responsibility...to the Order?"
"Do not let it into your heart," Dumbledore firmly stated, "for that is the thing you will need to lead with from now on; in place of your head."
Indie nodded, choosing not to speak at the moment. Considering, before she'd entered this meeting, she'd scolded herself for letting her heart take control, even though it was the blatant truth.
"Enjoy your afternoon, Indie," he added, "I'm sure you will."
Thanking the headmaster, Indie took herself back into the hallways of Hogwarts, and wandered aimlessly in the direction of the staircases. There was only a few minutes until her next class, meaning she'd avoided the dread of Toad Face once again. Not that Herbology was much better...
But, by being out in the greenhouses, it meant that she was closer to the place she intended to go after lessons. The thought of this made her heart flutter. Maybe, she was a little more excited about this meeting with the Chosen One than she cared to admit. Until this summer, it hadn't really been an issue. She'd been so caught up in getting her head into everyone elses. For Voldemort, and everyone else on that side, that was all they had; their head. It got Indie thinking that, maybe, it would be harder for them to get to her, because they could only get to her head. They wouldn't have a clue what was going on in her heart. Perhaps it was time to take Dumbledore's cryptic conversations seriously.
It was time for a change.
Hello Kae. Wonderful writing. There is only one thing I can say that I liked most. Everything else I loved equally cause you did such a great job with it. But this one thing says a lot. Quote:
"What if it happens again, Professor?" she began, "What will I do if the memory haunts me, and impedes on my...responsibility...to the Order?"
"Do not let it into your heart," Dumbledore firmly stated, "for that is the thing you will need to lead with from now on; in place of your head."
Indie nodded, choosing not to speak at the moment. Considering, before she'd entered this meeting, she'd scolded herself for letting her heart take control, even though it was the blatant truth.
Great job Kae. I'll be watching for your next. |
ohmigosh, how could i let Indie slip my mind!!! been watching too many Castle re-runs...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Chapter Twenty Five -
The silence of the grounds was broken, by spontaneous and incoherent chatter, as Indie walked slowly toward the greenhouses. There were many things on her mind, none of which made sense at all really. There was her recent talk with Dumbledore, the man who, more often than not, spoke as if he were creating a crossword – cryptic and ambiguous. Then there was the dream that led her to Dumbledore; what meaning could be found, Indie wasn’t entirely sure. And then there was the meeting with Harry after class.
With her head down, nobody would see the small smile that appeared, and the light shade of red that now colored her cheeks.
The sun warmed her as she got closer to Herbology, and the chinwag that was illegible moments before was getting nearer. She could recognize the voices of a few of her classmates; she had the unfortunate company of the Slytherin fifth years also.
“Indiana Stewart!”
The calling of her full name made her stop abruptly, causing a couple of the snide Slytherins to collide with her. However, the voice led her face to break into a smile and her heel spin all the more urgent.
“Dora!”
What on earth was bringing her to Hogwarts? Agreed, security was getting tighter, but that surely didn’t require Auror escorts around the grounds.
“What are you doing here?” she asked, as she made her way over to the pink-haired visitor. However, Tonks didn’t exactly look impressed with Indie’s first question.
Riddled with sarcasm, and an additional smile, giggle and hug, she replied, “Yes, I’m fine thanks, how about you?!”
Indie had definitely missed her friend, even though she’d only been back at school a few days. Throughout the summer, they’d gotten extremely close, something that she was now extremely grateful for.
“Glad to hear that!” Indie said, her sarcasm equaling that of Tonks, “But honestly, not that I’m bothered of course, what brings you to Hogwarts?”
Beginning to walk toward the greenhouses, Tonks motioned her to follow, but at a safe distance from the mainstream students headed for lessons. But, with hair like that, they were going to draw attention regardless.
“We don’t want you to be late for Herbology,” Tonks said as-a-matter-of-factly.
Indie nodded, “Oh yes, because it’s such a thrilling subject!”
The pair exchanged laughter, as they continued to walk slowly, arms linked, as Tonks’ face fell slightly. She dropped her head, searching for the answer on top of her black boots. When she found nothing, she looked back up at Indie.
The worrisome look on her normally bright face took the blush from Indie’s cheeks instantly.
“What’s happened?”
Alarmingly, all Tonks could do was shrug in reply.
“That’s just it,” she added, “We don’t know.”
Worried, confused and her mind whirring with scenarios, it was almost impossible for Indie to muster up any words.
“What do you mean, ‘we don’t know’?” she whispered, almost whimpered, as she considered the possibilities of what she was being told.
Sighing, Tonks stopped Indie in her tracks, stood in front of her with her hands on the younger girl’s shoulders.
“Yesterday morning,” she began, “Scott left Headquarters to run an errand of some sort; he was very secretive about it.”
Scott? Her brother?! The seriousness of Tonks’ visit was now arising, as she continued on, her eyes beginning to water.
“I don’t think anyone really knew what he was supposed to be doing. Heck, he probably didn’t even know. Look, the point is, he was meant to be back this morning…but he wasn’t. We can’t find him anywhere, least of all in London. We came to you…hoping that – erm, you could – I suppose…find him, somehow – I don’t kn- think that – he hasn’t been…I don’t know…”
It was a lot to take in, and for Tonks, even harder to experience. Tears had stubbornly made their way down her face, her eyes fearful. Yet, she gazed hopefully and forlornly at Indie, who was robbed by shock of words.
Looking away, the young girl couldn’t fathom the idea that her oldest brother was in trouble. The thought was almost too ridiculous to apprehend, but here she was, served with the notion.
“Dora, have you any idea, whatsoever, of his intentions or plans?” Indie’s small voice broke into the silence. Tonks shook her head, sniffing back more tears.
“That’s your trick,” she added, a small laugh following.
Biting her lip, Indie took a small step back, her own emotions beginning to surface.
“Don’t go far, okay?” she cautioned Tonks, “I won’t be long…I should be out of Herbology soon; I’m sure I have some Nosebleed Nougat in my bag…”
A small wink left Tonks heading slowly back to the castle and Indie toward her class. It looked like she’d have to postpone her meeting with Harry.
Again!

Hey Kae. I keep coming back to see if you've written your next chapter, and just noticed that I hadn't commented on this one yet. It seems like it's been forever since the meeting with Harry was set up, and we keep getting closer, but not get there. Don't mind me, I'm just anxious. Now, however we need to find out what's going on with her brother. I look forward to reading your next post. I enjoy your writing so much. Keep up the excellent work. |

ohmigosh, i've taken too long again, im soo terribly sorry!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Chapter Twenty Six
In her extensive training as a skiver, Indie was able to escape Herbology with little fuss from Professor Sprout, and no blood on her robes from her, ahem, nosebleed. She made her way swiftly toward the castle, her eye out for Tonks as she made her way through the great oak doors into the Entrance Hall. The room was surprisingly empty, but Indie didn't take much time to analyse, climbing the stairs two at a time to get to her dormitory.
It took her only a few moments to realise there were footsteps following her. They were faint, but matched her pace almost exactly. Whoever it was, they were making a point to not be noticed by Indie. A sudden left turn placed her in the girls bathroom. Taking the first cubicle, she shut the door and locked it behind her. Lowering the seat cover, she sat, crossed her legs and shut her eyes.
Her mind began to reach out into the bathroom, followed by the corridor, where her follower was standing outside the bathroom door, waiting anxiously. Draco Malfoy.
She'd been fortunate enough to avoid the Slytherin boy for the beginning of her year, but it was inevitable that they should meet at some point. However, it was apparent to her that the fact she was being followed by Malfoy when her brother had gone to 'run errands' was no coincidence.
Still, she wasn't concerned of his intentions right about now; all she wanted was for him to be gone. "What am I doing here?" she planted, as if he were thinking these thoughts himself. "I should get back to class..."
That was enough to send him back the direction he came, scratching his head as he went. A quiet gasp accompanied her mind as it came back to her, but she left her eyes closed for a moment.
"Silly blonde girl sleeping in the cubicle..."
The high voice caused Indie to scream, startled, as she lost her balance and fell into the wall of the cubicle. Her antics were obviously comical, as a high pitched cackle followed the voice.
"Myrtle, what are you doing here?" Indie asked, heading out of the cubicle, "Didn't anyone ever tell you not to bother the living?"
"Didn't anyone ever tell you not to be so nasty?" she hit back, floating away, moaning, into a nearby cubicle.
Shaking her head, she walked carefully out of the bathroom, and was soon in her dormitory. Changing out of her school robes, putting her belongings into a smaller bag and placing her wand in a pocket on the inside of her jacket.
"You ready?"
"Dora!" she cried, turning to see the pink-hairedd Auror sitting on her window sill, "You scared the life out of me!"
"I doubt that," Tonks said, walking over to the 15 year old, "cos you don't look dead, so the life must still be in you."
Even in times like these, Tonks still was able to make Indie smile, and shake her head.
Smiling, the older female took Indie by the arm, and led her to the dormitory door.
"Come on," she said, the two making their way toward the fireplace in the Gryffindor common room.
"Time to go find your brother."
