As Emily caught me...

Alicia was pacing round the kitchen, waiting for people to arrive.

“Just sit down already!” Emmett said and Alicia shot a withering look at her eldest brother.

“If my pacing is annoying you, you could always leave” She said as she turned at the fireplace. Rosalie, Emmett’s twin, glided into the room.

“Where is everyone then, little sister?” She said, sitting down at the table.

“It’s a bit early, Rose” Alicia said as she gave up and sat down. Emmett smirked and continued reading the paper. “Do you have to read that?” Alicia said, glancing at the front page.

“I want to know what’s going on” He said calmly, turning a page.

“You could always read The Times or something- not The Prophet” She said, glaring at the title. “You must have read what that Skeeter woman wrote about Harry and us?”

“Yeah- ‘A highly talented and smart girl, Alicia Daniels is yet another girl that has stolen our young hero’s heart’- how much did you pay her to write the talented part?” He said, grinning up at her. Alicia glared him as a popping sound came from outside.

“Ali?” Jamie’s voice shouted from the garden and she jumped to her feet.

“Coming!” She shot another look at Emmett before running from the room. “Hi!” She said, grinning as she ran into him.

“Pleased to see me?” He laughed, kissing the top of her scarlet curls. She nodded.

“It gets me away from Emmett…” She said as something ran past her knee and wrapped round Jamie’s leg.

“Jamie!” The little boy said happily. Jamie bent down to hug him.

“Alright, Jasper?” He said, tousling his hair. He laughed and turned to Alicia.

“Awicia, there’s more peopwe outside!” He said, pointing out the open door. She turned to see Fred, George, Ginny, Ron, Harry and Hermione walk into the house.

“Are we late?” Fred grinned as he hugged Alicia, who shook her head.

“No-” Her eyes flashed pink for a second. “But Emily and Draco will be” She said, frowning slightly.

“Draco?” Everyone turned to see Emmett and Rosalie walk into the living room. Alicia rolled her eyes. “Do you mean that Malfoy boy?”

“Yes, Rose- he’s a friend so don’t be nasty” Alicia said warningly. “That’s shot at you too, Emmett” She said, narrowing her eyes at the eighteen year old.

“Wouldn’t dream of it” He said innocently, making Jamie laugh at him.

“So, what are we doing then?” George said, clapping his hands.

“A barbeque out in the garden- unfortunately, we have to put up with the rest of my family” Alicia said as Emmett tried to tousle her hair. She ducked under his arm and jumped onto his back.

“It’s all good” George said, laughing at the two siblings.

“Let’s get outside then” Rosalie said, picking Jasper up and walking out behind Harry and Hermione.

The eleven people in the garden were laughing and joking when Alicia’s eyes turned pink again.

“Finally!” She said, running towards the house. She opened the door to see Emily, Remus and Draco appear at the end of the path. “You’re late” She said, her hands on her hips.

“That’s my fault, Alicia” Remus said, smiling at her.

“I know” She said, hugging Emily and then Draco. “Are you going to stay?” She said, looking round at the ex teacher.

“I can’t- I have to work” He said, turning to leave. He hugged Emily tightly.

“Everyone’s in the garden- go on through. Oh, Draco, just ignore Rosalie and Emmett” She said and they walked into the house.

“All right, Ems?” Jamie said, hugging the red head as they walked out into the garden.

“Not bad- how’re you?” She said, smiling at the look Emmett was giving Draco.

“I’m cool- what about you Draco?” Jamie said, nodding towards him. Rosalie frowned slightly at the exchange. Emmett was now staring at Emily and Draco’s hands.

“I warned you to be nice!” Alicia said suddenly, glaring at her brother and sister. They smiled innocently at her before turning to talk to Fred and George.

The small garden party lasted until it started to get dark. Jamie, Harry, Ron and Emmett were playing exploding snap while Fred and George watched on, trying to guess when the deck would go up. Ginny, Hermione and Rosalie were playing with Jasper while Alicia’s parents watched on, holding Alice and Edward- Alicia’s youngest brother and sister.

“Well?” Alicia said as she said on the porch step with Emily and Draco. She had a slight smile on her face.

“Well what?” Emily said and Alicia raised an eyebrow. “What?”

“I know what happened with Remus this morning” She said, her tone teasing.

“Are you spying on me?” Emily said while Draco laughed.

“Don’t be funny- like I’d do that!” Alicia said, pulling a face. “I also know all about someone trying to skip coming here” She said, glaring at Draco.

“I was half asleep at the time!” He said defensively. She didn’t look impressed. “I’m sorry!” He said quickly, holding up his hands.

“Just leave him alone, Ali!” Jamie called from across the garden as the cards flew into the air.

Hello Abi. It was very nice to attend such a nice garden party. The headlines in the The Prophet was quite disturbing. Rita Skeeter needs to get her come-up-n's for all her nastiness. Of course we all know she does, but, still. Was they really guessing when it would explode? I'm sorry, I don't doubt your story. It's just like them to, I don't know, bring a deck that was charmed to explode everytime Ron touched them or something.They're always up to something.

Emily stared out the window of her dormitory. The snow had picked up, coming down quickly. The grounds were completely covered in the wet, white stuff. She opened the window and the wind hit her in a rush. She gasped at the chill, but then sighed. She loved the snow. She clutched her letter in her hand tightly, the creases in the folded parchment more and more pronounced from opening and closing it so many times. She opened it again and read the small script.

Ems,
Everything here is good, a little boring from time to time, but Remus keeps me company when he passes through, which is less often than not. I can’t wait for the holidays and to have you guys back here. How are Draco and Ali? I hope you’re doing okay.

Please tell me you haven’t gotten another detention. You need to stop making sarcastic comments, Emily. One day it will get you killed or sent to Azkaban. So, please try to stay out of trouble. Remus told me to send his love the next time I wrote… He’s fine, stop worrying. We’re adults, Emily, we can take care of ourselves. I mean it, stop worrying. Remus picked up your present for Draco. I have a feeling he’ll love it... Are you sure about him? I mean, he is a Malfoy. Don’t bother answering that question. I already know the answer. Anyways, I’ll see you soon. Love you.

Emily folded the piece of paper again and sighed. She missed him, though it seemed like yesterday that they had moved into Grimmauld Place. She had used most of her time in her father’s home either reading stuff from her school list or getting to know Sirius. She found that she had a lot of things in common with him and her mother. He told her loads of stories about how they met and fell in love. She loved the stories; they made her feel more connected to her family. Spending time with Sirius was something she had always dreamed about when she was younger, and now she got it. But it also meant less time with Remus, which is not something she wanted.

Emily’s hand glistened in the moonlight. She saw the almost disappeared scab of her latest detention with Umbridge. Umbridge was a right nightmare. Emily and Alicia weren’t completely able to keep their sarcastic comments to themselves, which meant they had many dates with Umbridge and her infamous quill. Dumbledore’s Army made things better, more durable. They practiced their jinxes, spells, and curses, taking out their frustration with practices.

School was going by rather quickly. Time flew even if they weren’t having fun. But there was one person who made things more “fun” for Emily. Draco. Sigh. She and Draco were stronger than ever. They ignored the glares from most people who were still disgusted by their relationship. As long as their friends were okay with it, then that’s all that mattered. Emily glanced behind her as Alicia walked into the room.

“Whatchya thinking about?” Alicia asked.

“Today… Today was a good day, which we need more of these days. And about the letter,” she said hesitantly.

“Again? Emily, I’m sure Remus is fine. Stop worrying about him. He’s an adult.” Alicia gave her a look and Emily stuck her tongue out.

“So… I still don’t like him going on missions. I wish Dumbledore would send someone else,” Emily complained as she closed the window and perched herself on the end of her bed.

“Right, well, you keep wishing on that,” Alicia murmured.

“You’re not going to tell Draco, are you? About the present I mean?” Emily asked seriously, referring to their earlier conversation by the lake.


Draco, Emily, Alicia, and Jamie sat outside, by the lake like usual.

“Where has all the time gone?” Draco murmured. Emily was cuddled up into his side, thick blankets around them both.

“I don’t know… Things really have been flying by though, haven’t they?” Emily said quietly. Draco just nodded. She twisted in his arms so she could read his face.

“What’s wrong?” she whispered, touching his lips with her fingertips.

“Nothing, but Christmas is approaching more quickly than before… I just wish I had more time,” Draco said, desperation clear in his voice.

“More time for what?” Emily asked curiously.

“To figure out what I’m getting you for Christmas! It’s hard, especially when you won’t give me a hint,” Draco said, worry coming through his tone.

Emily snorted while Alicia and Jamie chuckled. “Is that seriously what you’re worrying about? You don’t have to get me anything; we’ve already been over this. You’ve given me you, that’s plenty,” she said, smiling as she tapped his nose with her finger. Draco rolled his eyes.

“I’m not getting you nothing. Why can’t you tell me one thing you want? Please, I’m begging here, Ems,” Draco said exasperatedly.

“Nope,” she said, popping her lips. “Not a chance,” she grinned widely.

“You’re impossible,” he muttered.

“But you love me,” she said, smiling wider. He sighed, rolling his eyes again.

“I’ll just ask Alicia,” he threatened.

“You honestly think she’d tell you something if I asked her not to?” Emily asked with a hint of sarcasm.

“She might, you never know,” he said defensively.

“Right,” Emily laughed. “Good luck with that.”

“You are so frustrating,” he mumbled. Emily laughed again.

“And yet, you still love me,” she grinned. Draco finally cracked a smile and twirled them around on the snow.

“I do,” he sighed. “Though I’m not really sure why,” he joked with a smile.

Emily hit his arm. “Hey!”

“Kidding, kidding,” Draco chuckled, holding up his hands in surrender. Emily narrowed her eyes at him, but then smiled and kissed him lightly on the lips.

“Better be,” she mumbled.

“Okay, lovebirds, can we please go in? It’s freezing out here!” Jamie complained. Emily rolled her eyes at him.

“Fine,” Emily sighed.

“It’s lunch time anyway,” he said defensively, rubbing his stomach as Alicia folded their blanket. Emily pulled Draco up with her and helped him fold the blanket. They all made their way up to the castle, laughing and joking.


“Er, well, he is desperate to know, Ems,” Alicia said, breaking Emily from her reverie.

“You had better not tell him a thing, Alicia Daniels!” Emily said with a huff.

“Fine, fine, I won’t tell,” she muttered. “You,” she mumbled under her breath so that Emily couldn’t hear. Emily narrowed her eyes at the back of Alicia’s head.

“Whatever,” Emily muttered under her breath as she slipped into bed, drawing her curtains closed around it. She stayed awake for most of the night, her letter still in her hand. She read and reread about Remus being fine and sending his love. She wondered if he was really fine or if they were lying. Emily fell asleep around 1:30 in the morning.

Hello Emily. I'm so sleepy, I'm afraid I won't do justice to your post. It was all very well written, and very enjoyable to read. I feel bad for Draco wanting to get Emily the perfect gift, but she won't tell him what she wants. I am the same way with Steve still to this day. I would much rather he get me something, if we have money for gifts for us, and not just the kids, that is from him thinking I'll like, instead of him just getting me something I want. Hope I said that cohearantly. It's so sad Emily missing Sirius, and Remus so badly. And, I'm concearned about Emily and Alicia. Is it just me, or is there tension there?

Alicia fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. Her dreams were mostly full of beaches and sunshine before it changed. She was standing in a windowless, dark corridor. A single door stood opposite her while what looked like an elevator stood at the other end. As she stepped towards it, a hissing sound echoed from behind her and she turned in time to see a man appear out of nowhere. Before she could even blink, the snake lunged forwards. The man, who looked too familiar for comfort, fell to the floor. Screaming at full volume, she sat up in her bed.

“Alicia!" Emily said, falling out of bed. "What is wrong with you?” she got to her feet as Hermione climbed out of bed, muttering about nightmares to the other girls. “Alicia?”

“Harry?” Alicia whispered, glancing at the door. “Harry?” She launched herself out of her bed and out the door.

Emily and Hermione looked at each other. Without a word, Emily ran after Alicia while Hermione tried to calm down the other occupants of the dorm.

"Alicia!" She said furiously as she took the stairs up to the boys' dorm two at a time, so that she caught up with the girl as she kicked the door open.

"Alicia- what- Emily- huh- Harry!" Jamie said, panic in his voice as Harry threw up over the side of his bed. Jamie hurried to his bedside.

"He's really ill... Should we get someone?" Neville said, stepping towards the door as Alicia moved dreamlike after Jamie.

"Your dad..." Harry gasped, looking up at Ron, who was as white as a sheet. "Your dad's been attacked... He's been bitten by a giant snake... It's serious... There was blood everywhere..."

"I'm going to get help" Neville said and he left the room.

"Harry..." Ron said, his voice shaking.

"Ron, Harry's telling the truth... Your dad's been attacked by a snake and is really badly hurt..." Alicia said quietly. Emily fell onto a nearby bed with a hand over her mouth. Jamie looked horrified. Alicia pulled them back as Harry was sick again.

Things seemed to be a blur as they followed Professor McGonagall through the school to Dumbledore's office. Alicia saw the colors and heard the voices without knowing who was speaking. She heard her name mixed in with Emily's and Draco's but didn't understand what was going on.

It wasn't until Jamie shook her shoulder slightly that she realized Dumbledore was looking at her.

"Miss Daniels, what did you see?" he said, his blue eyes fixed on her face.

"The same as Harry... Why does that happen?" she asked suddenly and Dumbledore frowned.

"Why does what happen?" he asked her as Jamie stared at the side of her head.
"Last june- I saw what happened to Harry... All year, I've been seeing a dark corridor with a door at the end... Now I see what happened to Mr. Weasley... Why? Why am I so attuned to Harry?" she said at once and she felt more eyes on her. She realized that Fred, George, Ginny, and Draco were now in the room.

"I cannot be sure of that, Alicia..." the headmaster said and Alicia tuned herself out of the conversation again.

Jamie took her hand and put it on the Portkey Dumbledore had made. She felt the pull behind her navel and welcomed the rushing colors.

Hello Abi. Great post. It is scary why Abi is connected to Harry like that. Dumbledore needs to start having protection for Abi I think. What will happen if Voldemort finds out about her? I'll be watcing for the next.

As the blackened kettle fell to the floor, Emily held tightly to Draco’s hand. Kreacher went on about the “blood traitor brats” until Sirius made him leave. She scrunched up her nose as she took in the stale drink smell of her father.

“What’s going on?” Sirius asked as he helped Ginny off the floor.

Draco held Emily in a comforting hug as Harry retold his story about Arthur and Nagini. She listened to his heart beat as she tried to slow her breathing. Arthur almost died. That could have been Remus or Sirius. Her silent tears went down her cheeks as she imagined losing her fathers. Draco rubbed soothing circles into her back, looking a little out of place.

He had lived here for most of the summer and hung out with the rest of them daily, yet he still felt he didn’t belong. These were people he was taught to hate, to never be friends with, but Emily changed it all.

Emily came out of her reverie as the twins started shouting.

“It’s our dad dying we’re talking about!” George shouted at Sirius. Emily couldn’t help but be a little ticked off with him for speaking to her father that way.

“This is how it is—this is why you’re not in the Order—you don’t understand—there are things worth dying for!” Sirius yelled back.

“Easy for you to say, stuck here! I don’t see you risking your neck!” Fred bellowed. As Sirius’s face lost his color, Emily’s face gained a bit.

“Hey! You have no right talking to him like that!” Emily shouted at Fred and George. Emily was about to continue, but Sirius held up his hand and Draco squeezed her shoulder. She glared at the twins instead as they glared between her and Sirius.

“I know it’s hard,” Sirius started saying. Emily didn’t wait for the rest. She turned toward the closest chairs and towed Draco over to the small couch. As they sat down, Emily crossed her arms over abdomen in irritation. Jamie and Alicia sat beside her while Ginny collapsed in the nearest chair.

After they started sipping their summoned Butterbeers, Emily noticed Alicia glancing at Harry with a skeptical look on her face. Must be reading his thoughts, Emily decided. Alicia turned to her and winked, a small smile playing on her lips. Emily stifled a laugh, because it wasn’t exactly appropriate at the moment.

What’s he thinking? Emily thought curiously.

That the attack was his fault and he was somehow the snake. He’s fighting with himself about it, Alicia thought, rolling her eyes so only Emily could see.

After Mrs. Weasley’s letter said that Arthur was all right, Alicia, Emily, Jamie, and Draco went upstairs to “go to sleep”. The others all stayed downstairs, not moving and waiting for further word.

The boys lingered in Emily’s and Alicia’s room to talk, not really planning on going to sleep.

“Did you seriously have to snap at Fred? He’s just upset about Uncle Arthur,” Jamie said as they all sat down, Emily and Draco on one bed and Alicia and Jamie on the other.

“He was attacking my dad, if you didn’t notice, Jamie,” Emily said coldly.

“Guys,” Alicia said in irritation as she rubbed her temples.

“Ali, how bad was it?” Emily whispered as she grabbed Draco’s hand.

“You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to,” Jamie said as he stroked Alicia’s hair. He gave Emily a look and she narrowed her eyes.

“Seriously, you two act like Ginny and Ron! Are you sure you’re not siblings?” Alicia muttered. Draco chuckled quietly, but stopped when he saw Emily’s expression.

“Sorry, love,” he whispered, stifling another laugh.

“It was…worse than bad,” Alicia whispered after a little while. “So much worse.” Everyone in the room turned quiet, waiting for her to continue. “My dreams were happy and then they turned into this corridor… I heard the hissing before I saw Mr. Weasley and then the snake lunged at him and he just—he just fell to the floor,” Alicia whispered.

Emily let out a huge gust of air that she didn’t even realize she had been holding in. Jamie took Alicia’s hand in his and squeezed it tightly. Emily couldn’t even look at Draco, but she felt his gaze on her. A tear trickled down her cheek before she buried her head in her hands. She wished she hadn’t asked.

“I just don’t understand why I’m so attuned to Harry… Why did I have to see this? Why do I always have to see these things?” Alicia whispered in a strangled sob.

“Ali, it’s part of being a seer… You don’t really have control of it,” Jamie said.

“And it’s not necessarily you being attuned to Harry… Seers see what’s going to happen. What’s happening these days always deals with Voldemort,” Emily began, mentally rolling her eyes as Draco gave a little gasp at his name. “And dealing with Voldemort automatically links it to Harry,” she finished into her hands.

“Well, then I don’t want to be a seer!” Alicia said suddenly. Emily looked up and their eyes met. “I don’t want to see these things!”

“It’s not something you can switch on and off, Ali,” Emily said quietly.

“It doesn’t change what I want.” Emily shrugged her shoulders as Jamie dragged Alicia into his side and hugged her. He sent one more look Emily’s way and she rolled her eyes at him. Nobody really talked much after that and after a few more minutes, Emily fell asleep in Draco’s warm embrace.

Hello Emily. Great writing. I really feel for the kids now that things are getting darker and more confusing for them. Don't fall off of your chair by me saying this, but, as much as I feel bad for Emmily and Alicia, I feel so bad for Draco. It has to be extremely hard for him dealing with his new loyalties and being so disgusted with the way he himself was up until just recently. It has to be confusing for him. I mean being raised a certain way, all his life behaving what would be normal for him to and just change so quickly. Habbits are hard to break when you've had them all your life. A very good explanation.

Anyway, this was really good. I hated this part of the book because all I did was cry but this is brilliant. I didn't cry It feels weird reading Emily shouting at the twins but in MYUTM they are so close to her. And it was strange reading the bit about Remus or Sirius dying

Emily's life really makes you think doesn't it?
