It sure was welcoming with Darej returning to Hogwarts again. His previous time here wasn't for a positive matter for the alumni as he briefly remembered the tragedy surrounding the school's closing a decade ago as he was a part of the team investigating and taking care of the situation. But that felt like eons compared to what he was seeing now.

Darej surveyed the area as he represented the Ministry for potential future employees. He happened to be a part of the Environment and Regulations department, particularly with creatures. He turned to his nearest booth neighbor(s), "What a sight, eh?" It was all decorated oh so fancy. Until a student went up to them, he offered a friendly smile and greeting to those who looked his way.

It had been a while since Simon had been back to Hogwarts…at least related to his job. The occasional reunion with his old classmates was one thing. Which reminded him of back in his school days, when Ministry workers showed up at the school and it didn’t go at all too well. The last being when all trouble broke loose with the Third Wizarding War. The security man was hoping for a better presence with the group he was supposed to be working the booth with. An environment head, a level one caregiver who was a former professor, and his colleague from the auror division.

“Indeed it is,” he remarked in agreement to his current boothmate, drawing him from his own observations and returning the smile. “It will be interesting to see what kind of curiosity and interest will come up.” Of course Simon was well aware Ronan would most likely have at least one student leaning towards auror work. And that wasn’t just coming from someone who had solidly had his sights on the position when he had been young and in the place of the students gathered around them himself.

There were a few booths that Kayla had her eye on, and she planned to check all of them out before this fair ended. Considering how undecided she still was, she hoped talking with people in different fields might guide her towards an actual decision.

But first, she had to decide on which booth to go to first.

That decision, at least, wasn't too difficult. The Ministry table was one of the closer ones to where she stood, so it seemed logical enough to stop by that one first.

"Hi," she greeted the hosts with a smile. "I see you're with the Ministry. What departments are you a part of?" That seemed like a good place to start.

One of the two there, though if anything they showed two generations of the department given he had first worked with Ronan's mother when he began. His fellow ministry workers were surely welcome to answer for themselves.

“Was there anything in particular you were interested in?” he asked in return out of curiosity. And perhaps to better see what to share and perhaps help with.

"I concur, between you and me, I imagine there will be plenty entering your department after this," Darej said. He would be in similar boat, if he were to openly compare the divisions within each that most applicants leaned towards. But there would be a pause in the discussion as one joined in-

"Hello there," Darej greeted after Simon, "I'm within the Department of Ecological Regulation & Protection," Since she was already asked of her interests, he decided to add an extra bit of info, "While there a number of departments in the Ministry, there are just as many, if not more divisions within each department that can cover a particular interest or two," Drawing from his younger self, hearing there are options led to more curiosity to explore and discover something new.

I never thought I’d be back here, Gaston thought. So much had changed in the thirteen years since he stopped teaching at Hogwarts, yet walking into the Great Hall felt like he’d never left. He said a polite “hello” to the Head of Security and Environment Division Head upon his arrival, nodding in agreement but too lost in his own thoughts to add to their discussion. His bright blue eyes darted about the hall, taking in the surroundings. Was that… Derfael Ashbury-Hawthrone and Chloe Kettleburn at the Creatures booth? He recognized several of his former students here, one of whom was at this very booth. Merlin, where had the time gone?!

His thoughts turned to another job fair at Hogwarts sixteen years ago. He was a professor at the time and his daughter just an infant. Now she was one of the students attending this year’s fair, and some of the students at that fair sixteen years ago were the booth hosts at this one. Maybe in another sixteen years, Hogwarts would hold another job fair and Desiree would be one of the hosts. He could see her hosting the healer booth, or maybe one for ballet or fashion design. Spotting his daughter among the throng of students, he smiled and waved to her. Hi, Des!

In his younger years, Gaston might’ve been reduced to tears by the wave of nostalgia, but that man who wore his emotions on his sleeve was gone. Instead he stood leaning on his cane, lost in quiet reflection until the first student approached. He returned the girl’s (Kayla) smile with one of his own but allowed the others to speak before chipping in, “Hello there. I’m in the Minister’s Office Department.”

The Environment Division Head’s words got a nod of agreement. “That’s true, and some divisions include jobs one wouldn’t think to associate with the Ministry. For example, the Public Services division, in which I work, includes healers, daycare attendants, gift shop attendants, and other jobs that handle services for Ministry employees and guests.” There was more information he could give, but he’d leave it there until he heard what her interests were.

Truthfully, there wasn't much reason to go to the ministry booth at the job fair for her. After her conversation with Professor DeVries, and from perhaps her own misconceptions about Ministry work, a desk job wasn't for her. And in her mind, the only positions that were at the ministry were sitting behind a desk - except for perhaps the law enforcement division. That idea probably came from majority of the public offices in the mundane world seemed to be primarily behind a desk, but she'd also never really researched to confirm if that was the case. And while she did not necessarily think she was attempting to research now...well, no stone left unturned for her future, yes?

And maybe there was also a little bit of procrastination in making her way over to Arts and Entertainment. She knew there was someone in design over there and truthfully she was terrified to actually get her opinion on the look book currently in her bag.

So.. ministry was safer. And less crowded. And the closer she got, the more she realized that if memory served, Desiree's dad was supposed to be here as well.

Reaching the booth, she stepped up alongside another student (Kayla) already there and offered her a smile. She only caught tail end of answers, but the gentleman with DERP (Herbology was one she quite enjoyed) caught her attention, as well as the man who mentioned the Public Services division. She eyed him curiously for a moment, thinking that out of the current people at the booth he did seem most likely to look like Desiree (actually, there were quite a few similarities!) but also day care attendant was something that didn't sound half bad either. She did like smaller kids... and it was super amazing the ministry offered that as a resource for their employees. "Is there a lot of positions in the ministry that require travel? Or just field work, in general?" Healers sounded like maybe they'd be sent out into a field from the ministry... or maybe it was more like the school's nursing office.

Law Enforcement, Ecological Regulation and Protection, Minister's Office... Of those three, the Minister's Office seemed more likely to be the one she would be interested in. They did have a point, though, about each department having many divisions within it, so perhaps it would be unwise for her to dismiss the other two entirely, not to mention the other departments that might not have a representative here.

Kayla offered a smile to Minerva as well when she joined them, glad to have another student there to ask questions too. Even if they weren't as relevant to what she herself was looking for, at least the field work part. Traveling though? Kayla supposed she wasn't opposed to the idea - it would certainly be interesting! - but perhaps not something she'd want to be her sole focus.

"What about positions that are more...routine, like a desk job, I suppose?" she asked the hosts. "I think I'd like something that's less prone to danger." A future Auror or Hit Wizard, she was certainly not.

Finn, who still really didn't know what he wanted, wandered over to the booth about the Ministry of Magic. He thought it might be worthwhile to talk to an Auror, given he did like reading about solving mysteries. Even if he wasn't sure he wanted to solve any himself. And maybe there was some other job at the Ministry that he just needed to hear about to recognize how fun it sounded. That was what the job fair was for, wasn't it?

"Hello," he greeted everyone around the booth, a little unsure of who to speak to first. He tilted his head a bit toward the other students there, hoping to...not eavesdrop, but maybe learn something from their questions that he wouldn't know to ask.

"Hello, Gaston," Darej returned the greeting. He might have been hard on the man in the very beginning whilst in the Ministry, considering it wasn't easy to hand over his kids to someone outside his family to care for. But Darej's parental fears were quickly eased. Now? He would consider him a great guy, even a friend, which he translated in his smile to him before more students arrived. He was sure to greet each that arrived as politely.

A number of the students in particular seemed to take an interest in the Departments offered. The first question regarding traveling positions, Darej gave his bit of information, "Naturally, there are plenty of work assignments both inside and outside the office," With the location of their work assignments, "Within the office there are meetings over situations that occur. For example, within the Environment section at the diminishing floo powder supply, there was teams formed to investigate their previous source before coming together to resupply from the remaining amount." As for his side, "My section of the department is the Creature Enforcement Division which focuses more on maintaining and enforcing the laws in regards to magical creatures. Whether any illegal breeds are being created, dangerous creatures arriving in normally safe civilian zones, before planning a solution to take care of the situation. Often, working alongside the Law Enforcement in such cases." His own example, likely didn't need much mention since Hogwarts had experience with that.

To further add on the inside positions, "Typically, entry-level positions will remain in the office entirely in the Ecological department. If they're an assistant, will usually accompany their mentor off-site to gain more experience. The Botany Division will typically have their experiments inside the Ministry Greenhouse without needing to leave the office." Darej felt he covered most of his department, without taking too much out of explaining the other departments.

”Definitley,” Ronan agreed with his fellow booth hosts. Honestly, he wasn’t even sure what he was agreeing to; he had been distracted by some dirt on his shoe and the wiping of said dirt. He straightened up just in time for the first student to approach their booth.

”I’m also in the MLE, as an Auror,” he replied to the young woman’s (Kayla) question with an eyebrow wriggle. He did know that his tended to be one of the more popular occupations with students. Heck, it was what he had wanted when he had walked these very halls. Speaking of which, it was kind of weird being here with one of his former professors plus one of his current coworkers, but he wasn’t letting that show. One of those things you learn being an auror, hiding certain thoughts and feelings. Though if he was being honest, it was something Ronan had always been pretty good at, as long as his temper was in check.

”Auroring requires quite a bit of field work, from tracking people down to investigation…..and as Mr. Patterson mentioned, we and the MLE as a whole often work in tandem with other departments in the Ministry. ” Was he hoping to entice the young woman into the auror office? Quite possibly. Could always use more aurors, after all. But he also noticed that she seemed to be eyeing Pro-Mr. Marchand a bit. Did he have a daughter here that the student knew and said student was trying to connect the dots?

”Hello!” he greeted a uncertain-seeming young man (Finn). ”What would you like to hear more about?” Was it auror-related? Ronan was the guy to ask!

Simon had to agree with Darej there. MLE wasn’t one of the largest departments within the ministry for just no reason. And not just because it was where the cool cats were at. Pardon the department pride there. “Hello,” he returned just as quietly to his son’s colleague. Had to be an interesting feeling for the man given he was a former professor.

Ah there were two more young woman who had approached the booth. “There are a few…International Cooperation being the top where it might be considered travel and not just field work like those of aurors, hit wizards, obliviators, PART just to name a few others.” The Ministry, while a government entity, wasn’t all desk work at all. “As for more routine and desk jobs there are plenty as well. “As Mr. Marchand had mentioned earlier, the Public Services division certainly counts. All departments have support staff as well such as personal assistants to the department heads of which my son is one. Within MLE the Prosecutors and legal workers would fit that bill.”

At Ronan’s greeting, Simon noticed a young man who seemed just a touch unsure of approaching. “Hello,” he echoed his colleague’s greeting, offering a polite smile. They didn’t bite…well most of them anyway.

Gaston acknowledged Darej’s greeting with a polite nod. Whatever had happened between them in the past was water under the bridge. Even when the DERP division head had been hard on him, it was nothing compared to Julien Scrimgeour! Mr. Bennett’s greeting was likewise acknowledged, and another nod in greeting for his former student (Ronan) so as not to interrupt him while he talked to the students. Call him sappy but he couldn't help but feel proud of his former Lion, though he didn’t let any emotion show on his face. He wasn’t going to make things awkward; they were all here to do a job!

The girl’s (Kayla) next question got a slight smile. “There are many desk jobs in the Minister's Office department,” Gaston replied. “Payroll coordinators, human resource officers, education office supervisors, and ministry ombudsman, just to name a few. Even the Minister’s Office jobs that aren’t necessarily desk work aren’t dangerous. For example, healers, daycare attendants, and gift shop workers rarely leave their designated area.”

Another girl (Minerva) soon joined, and she likewise got a smile from Gaston. “Hello, Miss…” he greeted, his voice trailing off as he remembered he didn’t know her name, Blink, blink. Why was she looking at him that way? Did she know him? Maybe she knew Desiree. As for her question, he answered, “I don’t know if you’d count it as travel, but some field work opportunities in the Minister’s Office include education liaisons, exam proctors, and recruitment officers. Education liaisons visit schools - primary schools, Hogwarts, or wizarding universities, depending on their assignment. Exam proctors come to Hogwarts at the end of each term to administer OWLs and NEWTs. Recruitment officers go to places like Diagon Alley and wizarding universities to advertise jobs at the Ministry.” Did that make sense? He glanced at the girl for any signs of confusion.

Gaston noticed another student (Finn) and greeted the new arrival with a smile. “Hello! Do you have any questions?”

It was the slightest bit amusing to her when Kayla's question was posed as well that the girl's seemed to be seeking both information on both sides of the same coin, and her return smile at the girl probably showed just as much. It really just went to show how different interests could be! It was quite a nice little reminder. The next approaching student, Finn, also got a small smile of acknowledgement from her, as she likewise kept one ear open for his interests as well. Merely out of curiosity.

She listened intently as the Ecological Protection representative explained in depth what happened at least for their specific department. She liked creatures, but Mouse didn't much thing she had much of a career in dealing with them. She wasn't as gifted with making connections like others were in that regard. Botany was certainly more her speed, but working in greenhouses on the ministry grounds didn't sound much of interest to her either. Perhaps it was silly, but she saw herself in the plant's natural habitats, observing and taking notes instead of trying to recreate artificially in a greenhouse. And if she did work in a setting in which plants were not freely rooted into the ground, the idea of being her own business owner with a plant/book store combo was more of what appealed. Though... neither of these options still were close to her passion for fashion and a career in creation. But.. she did still have a follow up question for him, perhaps twinged with the slightest concern. "What is done with the illegal breeds or creatures that are too close to muggles?" She knew reserves existed but if they were considered dangerous... did they still get a second chance?

MLE was not something she thought she could do either. A thrill seeker she was not, and the idea of putting herself in consistently dangerous situations made her anxiety flare just the slightest bit. International Cooperation maybe would have had some interesting positions... but she was growing more certain that venturing to this booth had been the incorrect move for her. It had been worth a shot, hadn't it? "Thank you both for sharing your experiences. What is your favorite and least favorite parts of the work you do?" She asked both of the MLE employees. It was still nice to be inquisitive, this was what they had come to do today - selflessly giving up their free time.

Something that did also catch her attention from what the older gentleman in MLE had said, was that of referencing the gentleman she'd been trying to place as 'Mr. Marchand' which confirmed her suspicions. "You're Desiree's dad!" She blurted, a smile of excitement spreading across her face. "I'm friends with your daughter. She's lovely and I've certainly heard good things about you too, sir!" Desiree was probably one of the purest souls Mouse had had the pleasure of meeting here at school. She was perhaps one of the only people left for her to miss next term when she was graduated and also not returning to Hogwarts again. "Durand." She supplied, realizing she hadn't introduced herself to any of them. As for Minister's Office? So far, it did sound the most interesting to her. Mainly in terms of traveling to the different school's. She quite liked exploring both Hogwarts and Beauxbatons, though she supposed the only other school's she'd encounter with the British ministry was that of different levels of education. Traveling to uni's did sound nice, however... "Does working in the Minister's office require any specific level of higher wizarding education for positions? Or can you get anywhere by experience only?"
