Default Ruby Broadmoor - Mediwitch
HeadGirlMC | Treddie & Trixiver <3 | Copy Girl | Katie's Ickle Minion | I love YOU more

It had been some seventeen years since Ruby had last step foot in the Great Hall of Hogwarts. Her experience of school had been positive, a former Ravenclaw with a love for learning albeit a bit of a shy child who was overshadowed by her much more confident older sister Tabby who Ruby followed around like a lost puppy sometimes. As she grew older she grew in confidence to forming her own circle of friends before whisking herself off to University to become a Healer just like her mum.

The woman had arrived that morning prompt and early to set up her stall within the booth ready to engage with the students who wanted to follow in her career choice. She spotted her mother Trixie in her own booth and gave her a little wave as she passed before settling into her own section with fellow St Mungo’s colleagues and others in their field. Her name tag read ‘Ruby Broadmoor - Mediwitch’, an obvious hint to what career she was representing. On the table in front of her was a practice dummy she had been loaned which could be charmed to display different illnesses, injuries and maladies for the students to have a little practice on as well as a simple little quiz she had set up to test the students knowledge if they wanted to have a little go.

Text Cut: Quiz
1. Who is the founder of St Mungos?
2. Which contagious disease is characterised by a green/purple rash, green tinted skin and sparks flying out of the nostrils upon sneezing?
3. What is the name of the potion used to control symptoms of Lycanthropy?
4. What is the suggested treatment for Mumblemumps?
5. What causes the highly contagious disease Spattergroit?
6. Which famous Quidditch player was eaten by a Chimaera and who which the serious bites department is named after?

She hoped the questions would be fairly easy to answer seeing as there would be a large age range of students around. A wad of parchment paper with a space for the students name, year and answers and several brightly coloured quills sat by the quiz ready for the students to use as well as a box for the parchments to be posted into which Ruby would anonymously pick from to receive a special prize at the end of the job fair. She was hoping that the students would see that education could be fun!

With every student that passed by, Ruby offered them each a friendly and welcoming smile hoping that they might approach. Even if they weren’t sure about a career at the hospital, the thirty-four year old could offer advice on becoming a Mediwitch or Mediwizard and working out in the field. She got to meet plenty of famous Quidditch players and attend many an event held in the Wizarding World. It was truly the best way to meet a whole plethora of people whilst being able to make a difference.

One thing Han had not thought to do prior to arriving for this event, was plan some type of activity for any of the kids coming up to his section of the booth to participate in. Which truly was a rookie move on his end, given the fact that his day to day consisted of preparing activities and games and competitions for his kids. The most he had prepared was using this as an excuse to fill one of his sessions, asking his group the previous week to engage in some art therapy and create pictures for him to take with him to shower upon their future peers. It was only a last minute decision too for him to grab his art supplies on his way out the door and plenty of extra paper in case any of the Hogwarts kids wanted to make something in turn for him to take back.

He wasn't sure if that's what this type of age range was into but... he'd find out. He could take this as just as much of a learning experience for himself, as much of a teaching experience to hopefully get some future minds excited about psychology and working with kids. If he could even find one kid who was as excited about this even half the amount he was - well, that would be a successful day in his book.

Scattering some crayons in front of where he seated himself, a small stack of colored papers for kids to draw on, he straightened his jacket over his shirt so that his name tag "Ian Han - Child Psychologist" was clearly visible and just... waited. Offering smiles to the different individuals who passed by, both other hosts and students alike, while also glancing over curiously at the other booths surrounding him.

Everyone looked so professional and ready to go. He hoped he only halfway looked as much as well. Thankfully he'd at least been able to convince his group for a normal hair color this week. The black was as close to his natural dark brown as he'd been in months.

William tugged at his tie that was sticking too close to his neck as he entered the great hall for the job fair. Why the headmaster had insisted on professional dress for this event was beyond him. He felt uncomfortable wearing a suit and it probably showed, but Will was going to stick it through. His buddies had promised him that they'd share a big bag of bertie beans when they got through the fair. Not sure where to start looking Will figured that the healing booth was as good as any. When he stopped in front of the man (Ian) and woman (Trixie) he quickly plastered on a smile as he greeted them both "Hey, uh healing, would anyone fit as a healing person or do you need a certain personality?"

Default Gideon Gert - St. Mungo's Healer
Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna

For the first time in at least two decades there were technically two Gerts under the Great Hall’s enchanted ceiling. The older curly haired professor around here somewhere after mother and son had separated from him visiting her beforehand. The last time had been his final end of term feast with his sister continuing on the next year without him. At that point, Gideon had never really seen himself returning to the school at any point, especially as his seventh year had had a pretty spectacular crash and burn before coming to an end. The closest he had given himself was visiting his mum at Hogsmeade.

So what had possessed him to consent to helping out at the job fair and representing Mungos?

Maybe it was the feeling of being all lost he had felt for many years after university trying to find his place. Maybe it would have helped to have an event like this around when he had been in school. Perhaps the curiosity of how he would feel back with these hallowed halls. Regardless the healer was here and Gideon had quietly slipped into the booth assigned to him and his ilk, the question aired for his two companions missing him as he took in their surroundings trying not to look too awkward.

Of course Ruby had taken the time out to introduce herself to her fellow booth holders, most of whom she was acquainted with anyway. Eun and Gideon, who was seemingly hiding in the back, both received a friendly smile. Perhaps she would suggest all going for a beverage at the Three Broomsticks after they were finished here to hopefully celebrate their successes in inspiring the future generations. She would run it by her mother too of course who would likely be familiar with the others too seeing as she had been a Healer for over thirty years.

It didn’t take long for a student (William) to arrive looking interested in the stall, or at least trying to look interested and not like he had been forced to attend. She offered the young man a soft and encouraging smile as he spoke. She too was that shy Ravenclaw who had taken years to come out of her shell and probably would’ve made her older sister ask all the questions if she was attending. But look at her now, confident and ready to talk all about the job she was so proud of. That was an excellent question and one that Ruby hadn’t entirely prepared an answer for. “Well I do think you have to be a certain kind of person,” she started. “Firstly you have to enjoy being around other people as you’ll be seeing plenty of them and you have to be empathetic too as sick people aren’t always the friendliest. I think most importantly you have to have the passion for wanting to help others.” It wasn’t much good not caring as the whole point of being a Healer was to make others feel better. “But I don’t think those personality traits are entirely too difficult to accomplish, are they?” She’d hope at least that the majority of the students were kind and empathetic individuals who would choose to help their peers. She turned to the others to see if they had anything further to add. There would be no competition here, joining any of their careers would be a success for wizardkind.

“Is becoming a Healer something you’ve always thought about? We have a whole range of specialised individuals here if there was something specific you were interested in?” She was a fully qualified Healer in her own right but specialised in emergency healing and therefore was usually the first port of call in an accident, then there was Gideon who worked in the hospital and would see the general nitty gritty of Healer life and then there was a Mind Healer and a Psychologist. All were absolutely worth while careers.

Ian was flipping through the drawn pictures he'd brought with him, chuckling every once in awhile, when he heard the question from a student who had approached. Popping back into attention, he smiled at the young man before shifting his attention to Ruby as she spoke. He nodded his head in agreement at the characteristics, though he didn't jump in with his own words until she had turned her eyes towards himself and the other hosts. "She's correct. Empathy is really important, for any field of medicine that might interest you. And having the strong desire to help people can really be used as the best motivation to maybe overcome not liking crowds or being around people, if that's the type of person you are." It was important to get used to being around a lot of people, but if one already wasn't big on that - it didn't mean they couldn't learn.

They shouldn't be that hard of accomplishments to meet but... Ian remembered himself as a student too before he grew up, and he certainly would not have risen to that challenge until later. But look at him now. "And if those aren't traits you think you possess now, it isn't too hard to learn - not if this is a field you're interested in." He didn't have anything else add, so instead went silently while waiting to see if the boy did have a special interest. If so, he could jump in again from there if needed.

Toby stood by the booth, rocking lightly back and forth on his feet, absorbing the energy from the room even as he surveyed the hustle and bustle. Every time a student - or, for that matter, an adult - made eye contact, he'd send them a friendly smile by way of greeting, looking out mostly for those who seemed like they showed some interest in the areas the booth catered to. His profession was healing; of the mind, specifically, dual-wielding psychology and psychiatry, but as he'd qualified first as a healer before specialising, he was quite prepared to assist and advise in any way that he could.

Back when he'd been on the verge of leaving Hogwarts, he'd not made any kind of decision on what he wanted to do, other than enter professional Quidditch (which he had done, for a while). He'd considered healing before graduating, but it wasn't until later, after receiving his NEWT results, that he'd submitted a late application to study healing at university; almost 25 years on, and here he was. If there weren't students here in similar states of indecision, at similar points in their education, he'd be very surprised.

A few of his patients - past and present - were actually students at the school, and he hoped his presence wouldn't alarm them; it went without saying that he wouldn't show signs of recognition unless following their lead. Then there were his own boys - sixth and seventh years now - whom Toby hoped he'd see here, for his own peace of mind if not theirs.

As the first students started to trickle over, Toby decided to avoid overwhelming the kid with answers when it was already covered by his colleagues (that word used in the broad sense, as he'd not worked with them all before). He just smiled at the boy in welcome, but otherwise stood by, ready for either a question more relevant to his own specialism, or for other students who might approach.

Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll

The moment Desiree had been waiting for all year had finally arrived, and she was more than a little nervous! Taking a deep breath, she entered the Great Hall dressed in her best Disney-inspired interpretation of business casual: a simple purple short-sleeved dress with a collar and gold sun-shaped buttons. A matching purple bag, shoes, and a gold flower pin completed the outfit. She glanced around the room, wondering which one to visit first. As she did so, she saw a familiar person waving at her. Oh, hi, Dad! She waved back, beaming. The thought crossed her mind to visit the Ministry booth to say a proper hello, but she’d do that later. For now she beelined for the booth of her most likely profession, the Healer one.

She approached the booth, her hands held gracefully behind her back to hide any trembling that might give away her nerves. Her bright blue eyes scanned the tables. Oh, she didn’t know there was going to be a quiz! She hoped she’d do alright on it! And one of the gentlemen (Ian) had colored paper and crayons. Fun! Were they meant to use those? She had soooo many questions, but she’d keep things simple to start. “Hello,” she greeted the healers with a polite smile. “Thank you for coming to our school! I’m Desiree. I’m leaning toward the healer profession, but I haven’t decided which area of healing to specialize in. My question for all of you is, how did you choose your specialty?”

With Ian and Ruby speaking with the first young man and his nametag properly affixed in accepting the role at the booth, Gideon smiled as a young girl joined her fellow student at their table. “Hello,” he greeted, a touch of the Scottish brogue that was stronger in his mum still very much present. “Yer welcome.” Even if he had been more than a bit nervous at the prospect. The healer supposed he wasn’t the only one and it all had to do with how each had experienced their own schooling.

“Weel, for me, it had to do with where I started,” the former Gryffindor began, trying to think of how to explain it. “Since I had started out wi’ an affinity with potions and took a duel degree wi’ potions an astronomy before receiving my potions mastery thinking to go into that field…when I wound up going for my healer training, it only seemed fitting tae specializing in potions and plant poisonings as well as the alchemy used tae create cures.”

Sarah thinks I'm cute | Shan's safe space.

You can do this. You can do this. You can do this.

Repeating what had become something of a mantra to herself was doing little to help, but that didn't stop Betony from continuing. She'd hung around outside the double doors of the Great Hall for the best part of twelve minutes trying to pluck up the courage to go inside. Some Gryffindor she was, she mentally berated herself for the millionth time.

Her quest to gain confidence was failing so far, it seemed. But at least her minutes by the door had allowed her to gain an overview of the ground, so to speak, and she knew exactly where she was headed. Only a third year, Betony had little concept of a back up, or a Plan B - she wanted to be a Healer, and therefore there were no other options. Having wanted to do it before she'd even started school, the desire had only been cemented when her Grandma got sick and she'd ended up in Stemp House. If she could prevent someone from going through what her Grandma went through, or help them, ease both their pain and that of their loved ones.... Well, maybe then it would all be worth it.

With a deep breath, she'd tugged on the end of her braids one last time and then headed straight to the Healing booth, where she proceeded to hang nervously behind her more confident fellow students. Did these people bring leaflets? She could just grab one and... run.

It probably helped that Ruby was exactly like some of these students as a child. She was shy and reserved and she lived in the shadow of her much more confident sister which was exactly where she wanted to be. It was that exact sister who pulled her out of her self-protective bubble and encouraged her to pursue her dreams. If she could be that influence on at least one child at this job fair then she could leave proud of what she had accomplished. Her parents had always been proud of her but it took her a long time to ever accept herself in her abilities.

But look at her now!

Whilst Gideon answered the more confident girls question, the brunette turned to the younger girl(Betony) hiding behind her fellow students. She offered her a friendly smile in the hopes that she would look far less intimidating to approach should the girl want to. There wasn’t anything intimidating at all about the Mediwitch, she was thoughtful and considerate and she was just about to become an aunt so she needed to practice being around children more anyway. “You can take one if you’d like?” she nodded her head towards the leaflets that the girl was looking at. She understood if she didn’t want to talk, that’s why she had brought the leaflets in the first place. Truth be told she likely would’ve done exactly the same at her age. “If you have any questions though, my fellow colleagues and I are more than happy to answer them. My names Ruby.” Sometimes being more informal with names helped. That and she didn’t fancy being called Miss Broadmoor.

Back to the other girls (Desiree) question. “I don’t know about my fellow Healers here but I didn’t have a particular idea of where I wanted to specialise before I did my rotations around St Mungos.” It was likely that opinions changed and some wards turned out better than expected and others might not have lived up to it. “I enjoyed the ever changing variety of emergency care. I also liked the idea of being out in the field. No two days are ever the same as a Mediwitch.” One day she could be first response in the hospital and the next she could be working a major Quidditch game.

She’d quite like to know how the others got into their fields though, especially the Mind Healers as that was a different niche entirely.

As more students began to approach, Han was happy to take the backseat so as not to overwhelm any of the kids - instead just giving the first boy time to consider their answers and see if he had any further questions, allowing others to also focus more fully on the newer students that had made their way to their booth. But hearing the question directed towards all of them, about how to choose a specialty, he did think giving any insight on that was particularly important for the spot that these students were currently in. Especially those in the upper years, as this girl appeared to be, who might be feeling more panic to settle into a field. He didn't feel his own experience was needed to be offered because there were specific ways to choose, but rather to show the differences to try to offer comfort that her specialization would come to her in her own time.

So after Ruby had finished speaking, he replied as well. "For me, when I first started Hogwarts I never would have dreamed of going into the field I'm in. I was... well, a rather selfish and bratty kid." He didn't love young Han, even if he knew he'd had his reasons. "But in order for me to grow as a person, my parents signed me up for volunteering at the non-profit I'm currently partnered with. They had me there a couple days a week, just hanging out and playing with the kids who'd finished their group therapy sessions but might have been waiting on their parents to receive other services offered. I made a lot of friends in my time there, and I grew to care about a lot of people who had it rough because of situations they were going through and I could relate to them on it. So after a couple years, my own experiences made me certain that I wanted to help kids like those I cared about before. And like I'd been helped too." Maybe it was his way of having given back, or perhaps it was just atonement for his rotten childhood years. Either way, he was pleased to be where he was now. "If there are multiple specialties you're interested in, volunteering and first hand experience really can give you a great taste of what the day to day might be like if that was the route you choose."

The other young girl who approached was likewise noticed, but she seemed to be on the shy end so Han simply gave her a friendly smile and pushed his own pamphlets closer to the edge, before stepping back to give her space. Ruby seemed to have it well in hand and he certainly did not want to overwhelm if she was already feeling anxious.

Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?

Brandon knew just where he wanted to go at the job fair, of course. He had been one-thousand percent certain that he wanted to be a healer for about seven years. No, he didn't want to explain why.

He stepped up to the booth, looking at the different healers there. His immediate instinct was to pepper them with questions. His second instinct was to keep quiet and listen and watch. His eye immediately went to the injury dummy- where could he get one of those?- and then the quiz.

SPOILER!!: Brandon's Answers

Brandon, year 2
1. Mungo Bonham
2. dragon pox
3. wolfsbane
4. rest
5. I don't know
6. I don't know

He awkwardly put his answer in the box, then stepped over to the mind healer, 'Tobias Fuller-Thompson'. "Excuse me sir," he said very politely. Then he froze and panicked because he was talking to a healer and he didn't even know what to ask. He took a very deep breath. "What does a mind healer do every day? And how does it feel? Does it ever scare you?"

Pause.

"Can I still be a healer if I'm scared of blood? I'm sorry I have too many questions. I'm just really interested in healing." His face turned a bright shade of pink, and he got all quiet. Please don't yell at me.

"Hello there!" Toby returned the greeting of the young lady (Desiree) who had approached the booth, beaming back at her. He waited until the others had given their responses, taking the time as he did so to smile encouragingly towards another newcomer (Betony), who seemed either shy or anxious, possibly both.

Once the others had shared their own experiences with choosing their specialties, Toby add his own voice to the chorus. "For me it was personal experience. I'd seen a Mind Healer since I was fourteen or so." Actually, he still saw one. Given the nature of the career, the things they sometimes saw and discussed, and the necessity that those in the profession were handling things okay and able to practice, it was sort of a given regardless of his history. "So, I suppose it was partly that I developed an interest in the area through my own experiences, partly that I felt I had valuable insight, and partly a desire to give back and to be like the healer I saw and came to admire. I worked alongside my old healer for a while, actually, when I was training." But Toby didn't go into much more detail than that. He didn't mind sharing, even when it drifted towards being slightly personal, but professional habit always stopped him from divulging too much. Still, he felt sure that a good portion of prospective healers were likely to be interested in the career because of some kind of first- or secondhand connection to it.

As another student approached, this one a young boy, Toby turned automatically towards him. "Yes, young man?" he said kindly, smiling encouragingly as the boy's next word's seem to catch in his throat. Toby attempted neither to cajole or to hurry the boy along, but waited patiently for him to find his voice again. And when the questions came, he listened and made a mental note of each so that he could come back to them.

"No need to apologise at all. I don't believe there's such a thing as too many questions. As to what a Mind Healer does... I suppose that depends," he replied when the time came to answer. "Essentially, it's dealing primarily with mental health. Personally, I decided to qualify in both the medical and the therapy aspects, though it took a while. That means I diagnose and prescribe potions as well as provide talking therapy, sometimes it's all routine appointments, and sometimes in a crisis situation. Before specialising, I did all the regular healer training as any other healer would."

He stroked his chin, looking thoughtful at the next question, mulling it over for a while. "When it's going well, it's very uplifting, and gratifying, but I can't deny that it can become stressful, or at times sad. That's the drawback of this area of healing, as a lot of it is in the hands of the patient. So..." Toby was not... good at admitting to emotions that were anything but what he considered positive, even now. But he was better at it than he was. "Yes, sometimes it does scare me, in a way." And, actually, that was true for more reasons than he chose to divulge in that moment. Didn't want to make things too heavy, y'know.

Toby smiled again, trying his best to impart some kind of warmth, or patient vibes, let him know he really didn't mind the questions. "I think that you can, if you're able to deal with it, compartmentalise it in some way. Does that make sense?" He paused, thinking, then added, "When I wanted to become a Mind Healer, I was worried it wouldn't be possible, because of my time on the other side of it, as a patient. But it's possible, as long as you look after yourself, know your limits, and work at what you need to. An obstacle... doesn't need to be a permanent barrier. Think of it as a hurdle, rather than a brick wall."

He was just... just on the brink of recommending some kind of therapy for haemophobia, but felt he'd said plenty already. The boy had not overwhelmed Toby with questions, but that didn't mean Toby wasn't likely to overwhelm him with answers. Anyway, if he was determined to go into healing, he'd likely make the discovery for himself soon enough, without Toby falling into the Mind Healer stereotype in the here and now to guide him there.

Desiree listened with rapt attention as each healer spoke. The first one (Gideon) seemed vaguely familiar to her somehow, but she couldn’t quite place it. Something about that accent… Then it occurred to her. It reminded her of Professor Gert! A glance at his name tag confirmed what she already suspected. Although she was a bit curious how he was related to the professor, she thought it might be rude to ask. Instead she kept it professional. Finding cures… that sounded like something she’d like to do, but she wasn’t sure how good she’d be at alchemy. “Thank you,” she replied. “And would you recommend alchemy as an extracurricular for aspiring healers?”

Hearing the second healer’s (Ruby) response made Desiree feel a bit better about not having her specialty decided yet. For now, she was torn between spell damage and mental health, but who knows? Maybe she’d find something else she loved in her training. “Thank you,” she said. “What’s the most challenging thing about being a mediwitch?”

Desiree could sort of relate to the third healer’s (Ian) story. Not so much being a selfish bratty kid, but she too never dreamed she’d go into this field. She always thought she’d pursue dance or fashion until Peeves turned her into a wombat a couple of terms ago. She never wanted anyone else to feel as bad as she did when that happened! Volunteering was a good suggestion, but it raised another question. “Thank you for the advice,” she replied, “though I’m curious. I’m interested in spell damage, but I don’t turn seventeen until December. Is there a way to volunteer in that field without using magic?”

The final healer’s (Tobias) reasoning for going into mind healing sounded a bit similar to Desiree’s own reasons for leaning toward spell damage. The more she heard, the more intrigued she became. Mental health was the other area she was leaning toward, so she was very curious what being a mind healer entailed. Before she could ask, Brandon beat her to the question. As she listened, something stuck out to her. “Thank you,” she said. “Also, I couldn’t help overhearing, You said the job can be stressful and sad. IFfyou don’t mind me asking, what strategies do you use to handle that?”

She greeted Brandon with a smile and a wave and offered an encouraging smile to the younger girl who’d showed up (Betony). Giving the others a chance to speak, she pulled a quill and notebook out of ehr bag and turned her attention to the mediwitch’s quiz.

SPOILER!!: Desiree’s answers

1.Mungo Bonham
2. Dragon pox
3. Wolfsbane potion
4. Bed rest
5. An infectious fungus
6. Dai Llewellyn

Ian couldn't help the smile at the excellent follow up question from the girl, giving a small nod of his head. "Absolutely. In pretty much any given field, there's a lot of tasks and assignments that need to be done, or can be, without the use of magic. Take for example checking patients in. Sure you can have a sign up sheet for them to just... write down their time and arrival themselves, but that can be really impersonal. It's best to have someone in a front office who can answer questions, offer a friendly greeting, conversation... small things like that go a really long way in helping a patient feel more comfortable." Which in his opinion, was one of the most important things for them to do in their work. If someone came in already hurt and feeling vulnerable because of spell damage, how much more anxious would it make them to not have answers or know the next steps in their healing?

Even if all a younger volunteer might be able to offer is when a Healer will see them. It was still an answer! And if necessary, maybe they could even sit and chat with someone who needed to be even further calmed. "Most everyone in our fields also wants to see others show in an interest in our field too, so if you volunteer somewhere and there isn't something to do - you can shadow and learn."

While he was the first, he wasn’t the only one who answered Desiree’s question given it was for all of them. He did absently listen to the other’s answers with mild curiosity. “Yer welcome.” The potions master turned healers at least a little pleased to feel that his presence at the job fair hadn’t been a mistake. “Aye…I would,” he answered after a few moments pause to briefly think on the matter. “Even if it turns out to be just because its an interesting subject.” It wasn’t for everyone that was for sure, but it could attract the curious and not just because of the talk of philosopher’s stones and turning metals into gold.

Gideon had noticed the quieter, tentative girl while speaking with Desiree, but he knew what it was it was like to be the one hanging in the shadows. Ruby had taken the chance to reach out so the former Gryffindor wasn’t quick to bombard her with another adult calling her out. Instead a soft polite smile was present should she look in his direction, his attempt to not look so scary to anyone bothered. And then the youngest seemed to be attracted to Ian and his field, so he left that be… the most part.

“Plenty of specialties that don’t necessarily deal with blood on a regular basis,” he assured the boy. He just didn’t promise that it would never come up with all of said specialties because one truly never knew what to expect sometimes.

It was a relief that the mini activities that Ruby had prepared for the students in the form of quizzes had come in handy and that they were being taken advantage of. It was just something she hoped would engage their interest mostly as she understood how intimidating it might be talking to a group of adults let alone a group of professionals in careers they were particularly interested in. She smiled sweetly at the young boy (Brandon). “It wasn’t too hard, was it?” Not that it mattered if any of the answers were incorrect it was simply to test their knowledge. She considered asking his questions but the other Healers seemed to have it under control.

It probably wasn’t a good idea to be a Mediwizard with a fear of blood.

The young lady (Desiree) also entered her answers and received the same warm smile from the former Ravenclaw. Her question was followed up by a brief pause and she pondered over the answer in order to not particularly scare the child away from the profession. “I suppose it’s the variety that I see on a daily basis.” she started, pushing a strand of her hair out of her eyes and behind her ears. “With a lot of the wards Healers are able to prepare for the type of illness or injury they are about to see. It means that they are experts in their field. We however are called out for such a range of illnesses and injuries that no two are ever the same. One day we could be at a Quidditch match dealing with broken bones whereas the next we could be at St Mungos. It’s what makes being a Mediwitch both interesting and exciting and yet incredibly hard work.” That hard work was worth the effort in her opinion. She wasn’t going to embellish the truth and make Healer training sound like it was a walk in the park for every student but scaring off prospective Healers was also not in her agenda. If a student was passionate and truly wanted to make a difference then it was something they’d be able to push themselves through.

Desiree listened as the healers answered her next round of questions. The first one to speak (Ian) got a smile in return as she considered his advice. Checking people in and writing down names sounded a bit boring, but the rest of what he said… friendly greetings, answering questions, conversation, comforting people. All of that sounded more like her speed. She was her father’s daughter, after all! She prided herself on being kind to everyone, like any Disney princess should, and she was pretty outgoing. “That sounds like something I could do,” she replied. “I’ll look into that. Thank you!”

She was hardly surprised to hear that the second healer (Gideon) did recommend alchemy. She knew that subject required an O in transfiguration and potions and passing grades in charms and history of magic. Three of those subjects should be no problem for her, especially given the fact that her parents once taught two of them, but she’d have to bring up her potions marks so she could take part! “Thank you,” she said, nodding. “I’ll keep that in mind when signing up for extracurriculars next term.”

Desiree returned the third healer’s (Ruby) smile. She noticed the healer’s pause before answering the question, but she didn’t think much of it. For the record, she wouldn’t be easily scared away from the healer profession! She understood that it might be difficult, but she was reasonably confident that she could handle it with the right amount of hard work and knowledge. Having a clearer idea of what to expect helped too! Although she wasn’t sure she’d pursue that area of healing herself, the mediwitch profession sounded interesting! “Thank you for your time,” she said, still smiling. “That sounds like a rewarding career.”

As she waited for the other healer (Tobias) to answer her question, she quietly pondered whether she had anything else to add before bidding the group adieu.
