It was all just absolutely positively delightful. NOT.
But still, maybe the positive thinking would help. For a little while. And why not practice now? "Rule-breaking?" Punzle replied to Vannah, her large, green eyes wide and innocent. "I do declare, I don't believe I've every broken a rule in my life. That would be incredibly rude." Rapunzel tsk-tsked like the Queen of England finding an undissolved lump of sugar in her tea. "Prefect Mae, I certainly hope you will report any rule-breaking to the appropriate authorities," she continued in a polite tone. "And I will help you with this most noble of tasks....if the need arises, of course."
She smiled daintily at Vannah, secretly wondering how long she could keep this act up. | Quote:

How absolutely loooovely to see you again," she said cheerfully, patting her sis on the back as she sat down. "Oh yes, I have a feeling this term shall be most interesting. And very educational, too." She took a sip of pumpkin juice to hide the crooked smile that was threatening to break out on her face at any moment.
As she sipped her juice, Rapunzel nearly did burst into giggles when another girl addressed her. Recovering quickly and swallowing her drink, Rapunzel turned politely to face the other Puff. "I beg your pardon, Miss.....?" she inquired with wide eyes. "What ever do you mean? You see," she patted the bench briefly, "I believe we are sitting on splintery old benches, not chairs....and I don't recall falling off of anything..." Punz trailed off again, the corner of her mouth definitely twitching now. This was going to be too much fun, if only she could tolerate herself for much longer..... | Quote:

"How cheeky..." she mumbled under breath as the girl finally responded. "You see..." she mocked, continuing the girl's little game. "It's called a figure of speech and I do believe I said practically," she added, trying very hard to see behind the girl's twisted answers.
"You can grin if you'd like," she added, with a confused expression on her face. This girl seemed to be playing a hidden game and was most definitely enjoying it. Did she know more than she was letting on? "That look isn't very appealing," she concluded, holding a finger up to the edge of her own lips as if to further explain. | Quote:

Must be that ESPN channel they shared in their heads....or whatever the Muggles called it these days. "Oh! A figure of speech! How delightful of you to vary your sentence structure!" Rapunzel grinned, feeling it appropriate to let out a smile now. "What look, dear? Shall I get our my compact and take a look?" Rapunzel reached down into her Chudley Cannons bag - realizing a bit too late that her dirty, patched bag probably broke 500 hundred rules on its own - and pulled out a little mirror. Glancing briefly at her reflection and smiling devilishly, she closed it quickly and turned back to the girl. "I'm afraid I just don't understand," Punz continued blondely. "I didn't notice anything in my teeth....and my face looks perfectly normal to me...." Oh this was just too grand. Perhaps she was overdoing it? A bit? | Quote:

Jasmine used to napkin to wipe the "food" off of her sister's nose and then she "coughed" into her napkin to keep from laughing. Oh this was just too much fun! | Quote:

Tracy leaned back in her chair slightly, letting out a low laugh. This girl was far too amusing. She was also a bit obnoxious but Tracy couldn't help but keep the conversation going. It seemed rather childish but something about the girl made it clearly evident that she was no fool. It was as if the girl was venting in her own special way. If only she could make sense of it. Tracy was in no manner used to such people-- such happy go lucky attitudes. However, perhaps this was the only way to go for the time being. Who knew? Maybe she'd find logic in the actions of such an inane girl.
As the girl took out her compact, Tracy shook her head and an smiled awkwardly. "My mistake then, perhaps it's the lack of light in this corner of the Great Hall," she replied, nodding accordingly. "Tracy Lindh," she added, holding out her hand for the girl to shake. "Will you teach me of your upbeat ways?" she asked teasingly, raising an eyebrow. Tracy wondered how much longer until the girl would finally quit the silly act and secretly hoped that the girl wouldn't. It was quite a refreshing change. | Quote:

Not to brag or anything, but Rapunzel was becoming quite proud of her acting chops. Honestly, she was going to have to have a Muggle stage career if she kept this up.... "Oh thank you ever so much, Jasmine darling," Punz answered her sister, patting her nose delicately. They both knew darn well that Rapunzel was NOT a messy eater and had no food on her nose two seconds ago, but at least Jasmine had the proper idea. Aaaah, now that's the ticket! Rapunzel grinned inwardly, keeping her exterior cool, of course. "Pleasure to meet you, Tracy," she replied, shaking her hand. "I am Rapunzel Ariel Black, fourth year....but what's this about upbeat ways? Are you referring to my pristine manners?" She raised a blonde eyebrow and winked at the girl. "I find that following by example is an excellent way to learn, Miss Tracy. Just a bit of good advice my dear Grandmother instilled in me." Oh yes. She was now referring to the Black side of the family. Merlin. What could be next? | Quote:

She smiled as the girl once again found a way to answer her rather reasonable comment with such a bizarre reply. "Manners?! Oh, of course! My mistake," she replied, finding it very hard to keep from bursting out in a fit of giggles. Tracy was definitely a fan of "manners" but such a reference to the girl's behavior seemed downright ridiculous. This was all a scene but it wasn't as if she was complaining. On the contrary, she was enjoying every bit of it.
As the girl continued to speak of following "examples" Tracy found herself trying to come up with more and more reasons as to why the girl was acting in the manner she had chosen. "Your grandmother must be quite a lady," she complimented respectfully, growing curious by the second. "However, may I ask who's examples we are speaking so fond of?" she asked, extremely curious to know everything and anything more about the girl. | Quote:

Gentlewoman? Was that even a word, or was Punzle officially off her rocker now? Manners? Did this girl have some problem with manners? Punz thought, her Slytherpuff side nearly getting the best of her. "Well yes, I was referring to my favorite Grandmother on my father's side....you see, she sets such a very clear example," Punz affirmed, refraining from adding any negative words after that. Oh, but it was so difficult sometimes! "But but but, my, I do seem to be getting ahead of myself!" She tsked. At herself. Out loud. And then she shook her blonde head. "Excuse me, Miss Tracy," Punz continued. "Allow me to introduce my lovely younger sister, Miss Jasmine Aurora Black," Rapunzel beamed, hoping the two would shake hands. "Miss Jasmine here is nearly a perfect gentlewoman, having taken several long and proper vacations with our dear Grandmother." She nodded, allowing her sister to elaborate...if she chose. | Quote:

She found herself bobbing slightly side to side as the girl shook her head and could almost feel her eyes tearing up before she quickly blinked. Was she hyponotized? This had to be one of the most weirdest experiences Tracy had encountered. "Nice to uhm...meet you Miss Jasmine," she responded, holding out her hand but doing so with extreme caution. One crazy nutter she could handle but...two? Tracy tried to keep a clear expression on her face but could feel nervous tingles run up her spine.
"Vacations? What sorts of vacations?" she inquired, once again allowing her curiousity to make the best of her. You're going to find yourself in a deep dark pit one day because of all these darn questions, she thought to herself. It was only a matter of time before her questioning nature would get her in far more trouble than she could handle. Until then, she continued peering closely at the two sisters. | Quote:

Then again, the girl was staring at her with an odd expression on her face, not unlike that of her pygmy puff Nacho when he came out of her bag after a long, hot, dizzying trip. Speaking of Nacho.... "Oh! My my my," Punz bubbled, suddenly remembering the furry critter in her bag. Temporarily forgetting the rules, she slipped back into her old self and unclasped her Chudley Cannons bag, digging Nacho out from his special pouch on the inside. "Nacho, my furry little friend," she cooed to the pet, stroking his bright yellow round head. "Are you all right?"
The pygmy puff responded slowly, sticking his pink little tongue out as if tasting the air in the hall, then slowly licking Punzel's hand. "Oh am I glad you're alright," she sighed happily.
And then she remembered the no-pets rule. "Oops." Maybe the Tracy girl hadn't noticed...."Uh, Miss Tracy," Rapunzel slipped back into her Miss Priss state. "This is my pet pygmy puff, Nacho. And after tonight, you will probably never see him again since he will, of course, be staying in my dormitory." She nodded firmly, not believing a word of her own speech, and then gently sat the pygmy puff on the bench beside her. She would have put him away, but he desperately needed a breath of fresh air. | Quote:

Tracy swiftly pulled away from her chair as soon as she heard Rapunzel speaking to her purse and barely held unto the table to keep her balance. "You are insane!" she blurted out, trying to make sense of the girl's comment and the furry reference. There was only so much that Tracy could take. Enough was enough! Scratching her head and trying to make sense of the odd situation she was in, Tracy could feel her cheeks burn as she continued staring at the girl. Before long however, she boldly leaned in across the table and noticed a Pygmy Puff. That would explain that, she thought and took a deep breath happy to know that Rapunzel wasn't completely insane. She was growing rather fond of the girl. Glancing around to those around her, she felt her cheeks flush a deeper shade of red and smiled nervously. "I thought..." she began to explain, but fell short. "To bloody hell what you guys think...I'm not the only one insane around here," she blurted out and then turned over to Rapunzel once again, not giving them any attention.
"I'm sorry..." she answered meekly, not quite sure what had come over her. Then again, it was probably Rapunzel's intention all along. It certainly seemed more likely. "Nacho? As in...yellow cheese?" she asked sarcastically, rolling her eyes at the name. "What in Merlin's Beard convinced you to name that blasted thing, Nacho?!" she asked, honestly curious about everything and anything that involved the older student. Sitting back in her seat finally, Tracy took a deep breath and pouted slightly at Rapunzel's reference to the rules. "Why o'course. We wouldn't want to cross the ministry," she responded, trying very hard to disguise the sarcastic tone in her voice. | Quote:

Oh. But this was too funny. She could keep the convo going. And, she felt quite proud for not sniggering once during the first year's melodramatic reaction. "Nacho? Of course he has a pefectly sane reason behind his name!" Rapunzel replied calmly. She now had a new goal on top of her goody-goody routine: prove to the school - and especially Willow - that she was a relatively normal girl. "Well, my friend, I have this nickname - which is seldom heard - of Pretzel." She paused, holding her palm straight up in the air, as if signaling 'no photos' to the paparazzi. "Don't ask how or why or who gave me the name, just know that it is a nickname." She nodded, and continued. "Anyways, I was shopping in Weasley's Wizard Wheezes one day - not that perfectly respectable girls like myself need prank items anyways - and I happened along the cutest little thing: Nacho! A bright yellow pygmy puff!" She beamed at the memory. "I named him Nacho because I was thinking of those silly Muggles, Merlin bless their little souls, and their fondness for soft pretzels, nachos, and cheese."
She smiled again, looking oddly like a blonde Mary Poppins, and tilted her head towards Tracy. "Satisfied?"
Ah, but now Jasmine was starting to test Punzel's patience. "Jasmine dear," she said through gritted teeth. "We have private lives for a reason. PLEASE don't reveal too much, DARLING." She smiled at her sister...her smiled looking more like a wolf baring its teeth. Honestly, the way that girl talked, they sounded like millionaires! Not true! Rapunzel had just been lucky the past two terms and had gotten to visit some friends, that was all!
Geez this term was going to be hard. | Quote:

Tracy was just about ready to poke herself hard in hopes to wake up from whatever daze she was in. This couldn't be real. It just couldn't. The whole thing was just some big ol' dream and tomorrow she'd wake up and come to the real Hogwarts. The legendary Hogwarts she had heard so much about it. It wouldn't hurt to keep this going. There was nothing else left for Tracy to do but give in to Rapunzel's funky habits. It's only a dream after all, Tracy thought confidently.
"Pretzel? You should know by now that I can't help but ask the first thing that comes to mind," she added, honestly interested in the explanation of such a silly nickname.
"Perfectly respectable?" Tracy asked, scoffing at the very comment. Something about those two words didn't fit in with the rest of her story. "I, for one, found that shop to be my favorite in Diagon Alley. She leaned in closer, feeling as if the comment needed to be discussed even further and whispered, "It's okay if you secretly love that shop. I won't tell a soul." With that, she moved away once again and raised her eyebrows at Rapunzel's question. "Satisfied? Me? Well, I will be if you let me call you Pretzel," she responded cheekily, with a wide grin. | Quote:

And the squeeze under the table didn't go unnoticed either. Discreetly rubbing her arm, Punz's left eyeball twitched in the direction of her sister as she clenched her teeth to retain a cool demeanor. "Jasmine, dearest, aren't you just the sweetest thing," she shook her head like a fond grandmother cooing a secretly ugly baby in its pram. "Thank you dear. I do know how fond you are of Muggle snacks," she tsked briefly, "but you've just got to watch your figure. Tsk tsk!"
Ohh ohhh how she loved teasing her sister. But if that girl pinched her one more time, she was going to lose it.
Rapunzel's mouth started twitching again. Hold it, girl, HOLD IT! she chanted to herself, not unlike when she would hold back a helluva sneeze. "I can't tell you how my name came about," she managed to respond after a sufficiently awkward pause. Ah, but then the girl seemed to have her figured out.
Already. Geez, maybe Rapunzel wasn't as Oscar-worthy as she thought. Raising an eyebrow at Tracy's whispered response, Rapunzel nodded abruptly. You could barely see the chin movement unless you looked close enough. "Fine. Pretzel it is," she replied, trying to sound annoyed, but failing miserably. She did love nicknames. | Quote:

Jasmine tsk tsked and smiled "sweetly" at her sister. "You came to me crying and blubbering like a baby whale. It was not your brightest moment I daresay. But you do look fabulous now." Jasmine pinched Punzle's side for good measure. "But don't get your hopes up, you can only dream to be as tiny as me!" How dare she reveal Punzel's deepest, darkest secrets? To their FRIENDS, nevertheless?!! Merlin Merlin Merlin that girl is going to get a STRICT talking-to the instant we get to the common room, Punzle thought with a sigh.
That is....if Rapunzel didn't kill her first. Oh where are the knives when you need one?! she thought angrily, clenching her fist and holding it shut under the table. She had to keep it cool, keep it cool. Hufflepuff couldn't afford to lose any House Points, especially not with two schools competing for one Cup! UGH!
Now how would a lady handle this? Oh yes. Calmly, cooly, collected, and perhaps with a light giggle. Now to put that into action.
Rapunzel slowly tilted her head and rolled her shoulders, cooling off before replying. "Dear, dear, dear Jasmine," Punz sighed, plastering a HUGE fake smile on her face. "That silly little instant, ah, happened soooo long ago," she blinked like she couldn't even remember the exact date (June 22, 2061) and continued with a little speech. "And I was NOT a baby, darling. I was only ten years old. And it was before I'd ever been invited to Hogwarts...and it was certainly before I knew about Quidditch. Which, by the way," she added, her smile looking more and more acidic, "you should try sometime. Since I know you have no muscle, dear." She patted her sister lightly on the shoulder, resisting the tempation to dig her nails in, and turned towards the NICER HuffieMcPuffs at the table. | Quote:

Rapunzel Ariel Black was outraged. "How dare you insult my Quidditch team," Punz growled, her mouth opening just enough to let the words out. Her voice was low and dark and scary, compared to the usual high-pitched-raging Pretzel. "You know THAT TEAM is more important to me than...than....than almost anything!" She gasped dramatically, wondering how her sister could possibly even THINK that sort of insult was funny. Teasing her about the Chudley Cannons, she could understand, but a real, live, blood family member? Saying she had no skills? Unacceptable. "I'm done with you. Nope, don't even try to say anything, being stuck here, in this pathetic school, with you for a WHOLE TERM is going to kill me. So I'm leaving."
And with that speech, intended only for Jasmine's ears, Rapunzel slung her Cannons bag over her shoulder, scooped up Nacho, and headed out into the entrance hall. | |
