History of Magic Lesson One - The Battle of Hogwarts
Upon entering the History of Magic classroom, one might think that they are outside of Hogwarts. Through the use of spell-work, the room has been expanded and made to look like the outside of the castle. The floor has been replaced by grass, and the walls are dark with stars as what would happen when in the middle of the night. There is a large representation of Hogwarts along an entire wall.
Professor Marchand is sitting cross-legged on the grass, waiting for students to arrive. There are no desks for the lesson, though nearby there is a table laden with snacks and fruit punch. Today's treat is Halloween candy. It might be early November, but there is nothing wrong with chocolate bars.
OOC: Welcome to the first OOC lesson of the term! I will be starting the class in approximately 24 hours. In the meantime feel free to chat with each other, though please don't go overboard. CLASS HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED.
History of Magic was one of those subjects that could either be realllly boring or pretty interesting for Emmeline. It all depended on what the topic of the lesson was, really. Still, the girl Professor Marchand is one of Cami's best professor-friends ever, so Emmeline made it a point to always be on time for these lessons. Even the boring ones, mhm.
Today, though, as Emmeline entered what was supposed to be the History of Magic classroom, she froze. The floor was covered in grass and it looked like they were outside the castle and stuff. Memories of the LAST lesson she'd had where the floor had been covered in grass flashed through the second year's mind as her heart started racing. The flaming gnome; being TRAPPED in vines that took Professor Hirsch a while to get off; the crazy old man having the power to FIRE Professor Hirsch; everything was her fault, her fault, her fault...
Emmeline stayed super still, hovering just inside the room, as she tried to force herself to breathe. Her eyes roved around the room, looking for any possible threats that were lurking (a.k.a. other adults). Finding none, the Gryffindor took several deep breaths and made herself put one foot in front of the other until she was sitting in the grass a good distance away from the professor. She turned sideways so that she could see the door AND the whole room (hopefully) from where she was sitting, before finally calling out:"Hi, Professor Marchand!" See, she could do this. Her voice only broke a little bit and everything.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Well this was....interesting.
Jessa looked about the room, her curiosity moving ten steps ahead of her at all times. Surely it was a charm, she knew that much. The classroom didn't just become the outside and so much more expansive. After they were gone, the Professor would have everything back to normal. The setup on its own wasn't what sparked her interest. It was all the lessons you could teach when you had your classroom looking like this.
Merlin she'd gone through at least three chapters in her History of Magic textbook last night. You'd think that whatever this theme was, it'd immediately come to mind but nope.
"Hey Professor." The Ravenclaw greeted, her tone casual and her gaze roaming.
Still getting her eyeful, Jessa moved over to the snacks. It didn't matter to her that Halloween was already gone, she didn't typically refuse snacks. The Professors put thought into them, it would simply be rude.
"Hey, Emmeline."

Luckily for the professor, History of Magic was one of the subjects Stasya usually found interesting. Not as much as CoMC, of course, but she hadn’t found any reason to dislike History of Magic. It wasn’t like Potions, which this term had gotten awfully complicated because she liked Healer Reed almost as much as Professor Hirsch. She just didn’t like Potions. But History of Magic didn’t actively hurt creatures. And also, Professor used-to-be-Newton was married to Professor Marchand now, so there was like head of house loyalty.
Plus, there was that talk she’d had with her in the library. So Stasya was hopeful as she arrived at the classroom, blinking as she tried to adjust to the idea that they weren’t suddenly outside. ”Hi Professor Marchand,” she greeted the professor, giving her a grin before looking for somewhere to sit.
”Hi Jessa! Hi Emmeline!” Why was her bestie all the way over there? She’d noticed the way she’d been all quiet and stuff, but it just made her frown. Sad bestie was bad, and she wanted to find out who had caused it. Aside from the weirdness in DADA, which also reminded her of her mission to find out what kind of cookies Professor Hirsch liked so she could make him some. Maybe cookies would help Emmeline feel better too?

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy entered the classroom wearing a casual ensemble that reflected her house colours. The sight of the transformed classroom made Daisy smile in awe because it was truly beautiful. She wondered what the lesson would entail but all in good time. She waved and smiled at the History of Magic professor. "Hello, Professor Marchand. Hope you're well." she said as she sat down.

When Vi entered the classroom, she felt a little disoriented by the scenery that lay before her. Grassy field in the middle of the night paired with the outside of the Hogwarts' castle. She took a chocolate bar and took a seat. Wow! You could see so many stars. She stared up at the sky for a moment before remembering that she wasn't outside anymore. Nope. She was still in the classroom.
"Hey Professor Marchand! How are you?" she said with a smile before she gave a grin to the younger girls (both her fellow housemates and the ickle Puff) already seated.

Teddy's favourite lesson! He was excited as he descended the stairs from the Ravenclaw dormitories to the History of Magic classroom, but as he entered it was almost as if he had descended the whole way, right outside. But no, of course, Magic was an amazing thing.
He walked in and looked around at the artificial outside. "Hello Professor Marchand," he greeted his favourite Professor the History of Magic Professor, who was sitting on the grass. He didn't love grass, didn't like the feel of it on his skin. Fortunately he was wearing trousers, so he didn't have to sit on it, skin-to-grass. But he did make sure his robes were splayed underneath him enough that there was an extra layer of protection.

Whilst History of Magic wasn't her favourite subject, hattie was pretty excited when she entered the room. She was excited to see what they were going to learn. She'd also brought a lot of parchment with her so that she could write lots of notes. She wanted lots of notes for when she started her revision for her OWLS. She knew it was going to be hard, so she wanted to be really prepared. She couldn't fail these, even if she didn't intend on doing anything magical once she had left Hogwarts.
She smiled as she got into the classroom. "Hi Professor!" She murmured, greeting the professor as she passed by and then went to sit down. She got her parchment, and quill out, and then waited for the lesson to begin.

Etta raised an eyebrow in surprise as she stood near the entrance to the classroom for her next lesson. Well, this was rather interesting.. she was definitely curious to know what they would be learning today. Heh. Hopefully, something exciting. She slowly walked in and settled down on the grass comfortably, not really in the mood for snacks. She’d already eaten, anyway.
“Hello, professor. Hope you’re well.” She pulled out her parchement and quill, smiling and waving at a few of her classmates, ( Also, hey BESTIE! ) and waited for class to begin. Hopefully, it would start soon!

Did anyone else think it was super cute that two professors got married or was Charlotte just suffering from love overload lately?
"Hello professor!"
Charlotte found a nice spot on the grass and made herself comfortable. This was nice. Relaxing! She approved of this. At least until the lesson got boring.... hopefully it wouldn't though. This grass was comfy enough that if it got too tedious in the lesson it would feel too easy to have a nap, especially with the dark, starry, aesthetic going on. She looked at the depiction of Hogwarts along the wall, and assumed the lesson was going to be something to do with the castle. Or the grounds maybe.

Derf had a confession. Why couldn't they just have had class outside on the grounds?
Sure, the Hufflepuff was always impressed by what magic could accomplish - it was partly why he stared so longingly up at the ceiling in the Great Hall. You know, that unattainable magical ability - but outside would have been neat too and easier. And maybe he could have poked around in the grass for insects while the professor lectured since, well, he tended to tune out when long explanations came about.
"Good day, professooooooor..." he greeted as he moved to take a seat next to Etta with a GRIN. "I have something for you." Yup, he sure did! Well, something to return specifically.

Somehow she had managed to do alright in history of magic thus far, which half of which was probably because the subject required a knowledge of factual items (with the occasional myth). And Professor Newton Marchand - can she call her Mrs Marchand? - had proved to be not so bad herself, in keeping the lessons interesting and informative. And hopefully not getting too out of control.
But when Sky entered the classroom on the first floor she did a double take because GRASS? Again? Had she missed some sort of memo? With a polite nod at the professor, “Hello Professor,” she found a seat near Hattie.

Eloise Whittebrook stepped into the History of Magic classroom and paused for a moment in the doorway before gingerly stepping onto the grass. She hadn't been expecting an outdoorsy setting for her review today as one of the board members, though she supposed she still would have dressed just as professionally. It was sort of dreamy and a bit romantic in the History of Magic classroom, and it made the bottom drop out of Katy's stomach as she entered the room. R... someone she knew would really like all this, and she had trouble enjoying it with that in mind.
So she cuddled up next to cousin Charlotte and dropped a head on the older girl's shoulder. "Hullo, Professor. Hullo, Char. This is the closest to stargazing after curfew we may ever get, huh?"

Shay arrived for History of Magic class with plenty of time to spare. When she entered the classroom, she was a bit surprised. Inside looked like outside. Okaaay. One thing that she had learned at Hogwarts was to expect the unexpected. With that in mind, she just went with it.
"Hello Professor Marchand.". Shay still hadn't got used to the professor's new name. She stopped for a few snacks, then proceeded to find a clear spot and sit herself down. Almost ready, but not quite. Reaching into her book bag, Shay got out her textbook, parchment and quill. Now she was ready. Class should be starting any time now. She'd just enjoy her snacks while she waited.

The grass on the ground in the castle nearly threw Patrick for a second. He walked back out the door of the classroom, looked both ways, nodded his head, and walked into the room again and felt the squishy gras beneath him. This was a change. He really liked the way that the classroom looked for the day. "Hello Professor."
He noticed a few familiar faces, some he met around school and others he had gotten to know better through classes. He couldn't believe he was already halfway through the first few months. "I really like what you did with the classroom" he mentioned as he looked up at the ceiling.
Many an exciting (and sometimes scary) debate with her at the heart had taken place in this classroom. Though today it looked very different. She admired the sky and briefly graced the top of the grass with her fingertips as she entered the classroom.
"Hello Professor Newto-Marchand," she said, hastily correcting herself. Professor Marchand. Kitty was so happy for her professors, but she was going to have to get used to Newton being a Marchand.
Miranda made her way to History of Magic class.. A fascinating subject actually.. Not that many were into history, but it was useful to know what to avoid doing in the future from the mistakes made in the past, yes?...
" Good morning, Professor Marchand... Congratulations by the way..", She said with a smile as she passed by and took a seat on the grass and pulled her things from her bag and proceeded to get ready for the class to start... the snacks were awfully nice and whatnot, but Randa had already had a few of her own homemade chocolate badgers on the way the classroom.

Then again it always was and the students probably started getting used to it; SHE definitely had even though coffee and tea were still a requirement. "Morning, Miss Cambridge." It was nice to see that she had decided to help herself to some snacks. So what if it was after Halloween? The candy was still nice to have.

He noticed a few familiar faces, some he met around school and others he had gotten to know better through classes. He couldn't believe he was already halfway through the first few months. "I really like what you did with the classroom" he mentioned as he looked up at the ceiling.
In a moment or so she would be shutting the classroom door, but there was still enough time for a couple more stragglers to make their way inside. There was one doing just that. "Morning, Mr Dooley. Thank you." Another compliment, and it made her smile once again.

"Hello Professor Newto-Marchand," she said, hastily correcting herself. Professor Marchand. Kitty was so happy for her professors, but she was going to have to get used to Newton being a Marchand.
And there was Kitty who seemed to be rather enjoying the grass. That was always nice to see. "Hello, Miss Valentine." Rosalyn knew that it could take a little while for the students to get used to the name change, so of course she wouldn't have gotten mad even if she hadn't corrected herself in the end.

Annnnnd there was one last student! "Morning, Miss Blaze! Thank you very much." It was nice that the students were so kind and thoughtful. It always made Rosalyn smile. And it was also nice to see how prepared Miranda was to get started.
Anyway it was time for the lesson to begin.
Getting up, Rosalyn made her way to the door, peering outside to make sure that there weren't any last minute stragglers. There were none, and anyone who arrived after this time would lose points. It wasn't something that she enjoyed doing, but it was necessary; students needed to learn how important punctuality was, and fortunately most of them were well aware and managed to make it on time even if they were rather sleepy.
With the door closed, she made her way back over to the front of the class and sat down on the grass, crossing her legs. "Morning, everyone. I am sure that you are all wondering why we are inside for this lesson when we could be outside. Well, the fact of the matter is that I wanted this atmosphere, but it's quite impossible to be outside for a lesson after dark." Of course there was Astronomy, but that was different. "Plus this way, you get the feel of darkness but without any difficulty in seeing." Now one DID get accustomed to the dark, but it was much better to avoid that all together and have decent lighting.
And now was the time for her to ask the first question. "Anyone have as guess as to what we are going to be doing today?" Rosalyn was sure that she was going to be getting some good answers; the students never disappointed her.
OOC: Hello, everyone! I am so happy to see you all in class. I will be posting again in approximately 24 hours. Please keep in mind that any arrivals from this moment on WILL result in points loss, so it's better to just pretend that you have been here all along.

Yknow what Zoryn hated more than History? The fact that her History Professor now shared the name of her Head of House. There wasn't enough room at hogwarts for TWO Professor Marchands!!! This was AWFUL. Possibly the WORST thing that had ever happened to this school and two years ago they were literally attacked by some weird underworld. HOW COULD PROFESSOR NEWTON DO THIS TO HER?????? Zoryn felt SO BETRAYED!!!!!
Melodramatics aside, however, the classroom had a weird set up and it caught Zoryn's attention. Though... the stars sus made her feel very sleepy. A sentiment which inspired her answer to the question posed to the class. "I hope we're gonna take a group nap under the stars Professor Newton," And yes, Zor was more than aware that Newton wasn't her name anymore. But the Gryffindor was TAKING A STAND!
STANDING UP FOR INJUSTICE!!!
FOR THE GOOD PEOPLE OF HOGWARTS!
This hateful crime would stop here.

"Very well thanks!" she beamed. Oh and the snack. She should thank the Professor. "Thanks for the snack!" Seriously chocolate was the best and she'd never say no to that. Sitting on the grass, she looked up at the sky momentarily, wondering what the purpose was of everything being so dark in here. What would the lesson be about? she wondered.
Oh hey! There was the bestie! Etta got a big wave and a BIG smile when she came in... Ooh and the boyfriend! Merlin. That still felt weird to say. Butterflies and all... She cast a special smile at Ace as he sat down next to her but couldn't say too much as class began. Eh. They'd talk later.
Meanwhile Professor Marchand was asking them what they thought they would be doing today in class. Olivia stared up at the "sky" for a moment (almost forgetting that they were in the History of Magic classroom and not outside) and then paused as she thought. Perhaps..... "Are we perhaps studying or watching an event from history?" she asked, offering a thought. Perhaps there would be famous figures from history popping up around the backdrop of the castle.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy smiled back at Professor Marchand. "I am doing really well, thanks." She slightly scrunched her small nose in thought as to what today's lesson would be about. "My guess is the history of Hogwarts castle itself." Honestly, the Hufflepuff had no clue.

Honestly, Ronan was seriously distracted by the way the classroom was set up. It made him want to take off his shoes, lie back and watch the stars and fall asleep. But, he was in class, so that wasn't possible. Well, it was possible, but it wouldn't be a good idea. Also, whoever said it impossible to have a class outside after dark? They did have wands, didn't they?
He had no idea about what they could be studying today. So, he just stayed silent and munched on a chocolate bar, looking up at the fake sky.
Hey, was that a shooting star? Shhhh, making a wish here.
