Professor Fergersnout hadn’t given much away on the invitation she had posted on each of the houses noticeboards other than that the students were about to go on a quest that tested their riddle solving abilities and their knowledge of famous witches and wizards.
She had instructed the group, an open invitation to all students at Hogwarts and not just those who enjoyed collecting Wizard Cards, to meet her under an archway in the courtyard where she could presently be found in her usual eccentric attire. The purple pointed hat, a familiar favourite which perfectly matched the wrapper of the chocolate frog she was currently munching away on, sat on top her head and acted as a beacon to arriving students. Her matching robe, made of a thick wool to keep out the February afternoon chill, was wrapped around her body. She had a stack of parchment in her arms that she was clutching closely to her body so as to not spoil the activity to any nosey children who might want to get a hard start.
“Come gather here, we’ll start when there’s enough of you to get going.”
OOC: Welcome to the History of Magic group activity for the term, this time in association with the Wizard Card Collectors Club. Your character doesn’t need to be a member of the club to get involved, in fact we encourage everyone to partake in a bit of fun. This is NOT a lesson so students can join at any time, uniform is not required and points won’t be awarded for participation.

Aryan very much was a part of the Wizard Card Collection Club. He loved collecting the cards, even if he didn’t enjoy eating too much chocolate. His collection was somewhat a medium one, partially thanks to his dad who had given him about a dozen. It consisted of about forty cards but he was proud of it.
Curious about the activity today, he arrived at the Courtyard in extremely high spirits. Professor Fergersnout was easy to locate as always due to her bright and eye-catching clothing. The woman in the pretty purple hat and robe {one could think of her as a human Chocolate Frog wrapper}received a bubbly finger wiggle-wave in greeting as he moved to ‘gather’ as she had instructed.

Emma was very much NOT in the Wizard Card Collection Club. It wasn't that she didn't collect the cards, because she was pretty sure everyone she knew collected them. But she never felt she was an avid enough fan to join the club. She was more the type to casually collect cards, rather than try to get 'em all. It seemed far too exhausting for hyperactive brain to sort out which ones she needed or didn't need.
And yet the announcement was intriguing enough to get her attention. Heading out to the courtyard, the third year smiled warmly at her head of house, along with Aryan too. Were they meant to bring their card collection to this gathering? Now that she was thinking about it, she didn't recall anything on the notice so perhaps not.

This third year wasn't exactly a chocolate frog card collector, however, she was a chocolate frog eater. This always meant that whenever she ate one, her cards were always up for dibs. Usually to Aryan first if she happened to come across one he didn't already have in his collection. Sharing was caring, after all.
One did have to be a member of the Wizard Card Collection Club to attend this thing, the invites she had told her so. Which was why she at the given time, Bry slipped her way across the grounds towards the brightly dressed Professor. "Hello Professor!" She chirped happily, wiggling her fingers in greeting.
"Hiya, Ary! Hi, Emma!" A smile was given to each of them as she stopped to stand beside Ary, bouncing on her toes.

There was a brief moment of concern that Professor Fergersnout had written the wrong date, or the wrong time, or mixed up her meeting points in her notice but all those thoughts were quickly washed away as a small group of students joined her. She was pleased that the young ones were all interested enough in the subject to donate their attention, although she hoped that the fun aspect would be persuasive enough anyway.
“Good afternoon Mr Atreyu-Rehman, Miss Montmorency, Miss Paton. I hope you all have your thinking hats on.” Or was it caps? These muggle sayings sometimes got a little confuddled in her head.
“I have here a little puzzle for you all, or rather a set of riddles to complete. Your mission is to figure out the answers to these riddles, of which the first letter of each will spell out the next location to meet me at. The answers are all historical figures that you may find on a chocolate frog card.” She handed the students their parchments and a fun little chocolate frog themed pen to write their answers down.
“Some of these may be a little harder than others so please feel free to work in a group or ask me for a clue if you need it. You have around 30 minutes before I’ll head to the next location.”
OOC: Thank you for joining our fun activity. You have around 60 hours to complete this first set of riddles. Although the next location will be elsewhere in the grounds, we’ll keep all activity to this thread.

Ary didn’t think that they had to bring along their card collection. In any case, he hadn’t so Emma was not the only one cardless. “Hi, Emma,’’ he greeted her warmly. Just at that moment, Bry got there. When she stepped beside him, he nudged her, smiling brightly as he did so. Hi, Bry! He was glad you made it on time.
“My thinking cap’s on, Professor,” the third year reassured the woman. It was always on, actually, even if it obviously could not be seen. How else was he to survive all these lessons? It was clear that he’d be needing that proverbial cap more than ever today because while the activity sounded exciting, it was also clear that he’d be using a lot of brain cells today.
After collecting a riddle sheet, Ary asked the two girls, “Shall we work together?” While waiting for the answers, he happened to glance at the first clue, the one with the mention of a sword. “The first answer’s Gryffindor, obviously.” How’s that for using his cap?

Thinking hats? Emma stared bewildered at Fergersnout, as she reached up to pat her head, "I'm not wearing a hat..." she said quietly, perhaps more to Ary and Bry than anyone else.
Oh riddles? Well that was fun. Was the prize going to be chocolate frogs? Taking one of the riddle sheets, she glanced at it a brief second before hearing Ary asking them about working together, "That probably makes a lot of sense," She had recalled him the previous year in the quiz bowl and how well he dominated the trivia. Although thankfully she and Hope didn't do too terribly, probably more thanks to Hope. Ary still had a knack for random facts that made her grateful to partner together. "Gryffindor, yes.... the sixth one is Hufflepuff." Were they supposed to go in order since one answer fed into another? Oops. She couldn't resist though answering that clue about the penchant for food and cheerful smile to lighten your mood, so clearly her house founder.

That nudge, Ary earned a light one in return along with an even brighter smile. Her fingers lightly brushed against his but that was all for the moment. It was time to pay attention to the task at hand, whatever it was that they were going to need to be doing.
The comment from Fergersnout about them wearing their 'thinking hats' made her giggle. "Neither are we.. it's just a figure of speech. It means that she hopes were ready to do some thinking is all." Bry grinned at Emma, patting her on the shoulder. "Right, Ary?" That is what it meant, yes? She hadn't mixed these sayings up again, had she?
Riddles?! Oh, dear Merlin. This would either go very well or incredibly badly for her. Accepting a riddle sheet and one of the really cute chocolate frog pens, Bry let her gaze drift over the riddles. "Of course." Aryan didn't think she wanted to work all alone when she had the choice to be at his side now, did he? And having Emma in their group would be even more fun. "Hmm, okay awesome. So we've got Gryffindor and Hufflepuff..." That was already two answers down! Once more her blue eyes drifted over the riddles on the parchment. She knew the one about being a school founder and having a large snake was Salazar Slytherin but that wouldn't help them just yet. The next one though.. unrequited love and family betrayal, that she thought she knew. Is this one Helena Ravenclaw?" Bry tapped her finger against the riddle on the page. "It sounds like it could be." What did the two of them think?

Ary couldn’t help it with his performance in the quiz bowl last year, though he still hated that some of the easier answers had eluded him at the time. He just got competitive at times but today, he felt like being laid back and moving along at a relatively steady pace with this activity. At Emma’s answer, he chuckled heartily. “You would know best, of course.” Ary so did love Hufflepuffs! Some of his good friends belonged to the House, as did his dad and one of his sisters.
The Slytherin had felt Bry’s brush against his and he had sent her a smile. But that was all as he wasn’t looking to get told off by the professor. “That’s exactly what she means,’’ he replied, nodding at the same time. His eyes scanned the riddle Bry was having trouble with. “Ravenclaw for sure. Okay, so we’ve got the four Founders since the ninth riddle is Slytherin.” Ary paused. "So we have G, H, R, S. Hang on.’’ From his bag, Ary retrieved a pencil so that it could be used to write the first letter to each answer at the top of the parchment. “This way we have something to keep track of regarding the letters.”
He studied the parchment again. “The one regarding the elder wand is Emeric. That’s G R E _ _ H _ _ S _, if I have that right…” There was silence again as he pondered. “Great Hall was my first thought but the ‘S’ doesn’t make sen- GREENHOUSE! That’s got to be it, right?” Cue Ary being super excited by this deduction.

If Bry had anything to say about that Quiz Bowl, she would chime in that Ary had done AH-MAH-ZING! Just like always, this blonde was his biggest fan. Ary was one of the most brilliant people she knew. On a very regular basis she was known to go to him for assistance on many things.
Don't worry, she knew. The blonde wasn't looking to get them into any trouble, all she aimed for was to get his attention and that smile from him. Her own smile growing brighter as he confirmed the answer to the riddle was in fact, Ravenclaw. Annnnnnnnd, leave it to Ary to jot down the letters they've figured out for their clue as he rattled off a few more answers! See? He was the smartest!
Nod nod. "Good thinking." Bry glanced over at his parchment taking note of the letters they had the placement of them for their answer. Great Hall was a good guess, and hers at well until she remembered there was an 'S' in there. This was okay, Aryan had figured it out! "Yessss! That makes the most sense, do we tell Professor Fergersnout that we figured it out or do we go straight to the Greenhouse?"

Oh. It was just a figure of speech. Cue lightbulb moment for this blond who clearly was oblivious when it came to certain idioms. Her cheeks flushed when Ary confirmed that, "Right, of course. Just a saying."
Third one down was Ravenclaw, yes that made a lot of sense since she did recall something about family betrayal. Good thing they didn't need a Ravenclaw to figure these out, because Hope was basically the only Ravenclaw she knew. When Ary starting writing the first letter of each word, she squinted in confusion mostly because she'd been thinking somehow that they needed the last letter of each word to contribute to the first letter of the next word but apparently not the case at all. Because when he suggested Emeric for the one about the elder wand, she was really confused since she thought with the riddles it should have started with W, but she was thinking of it all wrong. Good thing she hadn't said anything.
"OOh ..." Emma stared at the remaining five clues, drawing a blank. "I think .. I'm up for for just heading to the greenhouse, unless you want to try to go for one more for good measure?" she stared down at the missing clues again, "Is that Uric or something?" she pointed gingerly at the jellyfish clue.

Emmeline wasn't exactly an expert clue solver, and as thus she had chosen to listen and observe first to her friends as they dug into the clues, and screamed out excited suggestions. Aryan of course figured out that they had to take the first letter from each solved clue to form a word. The greenhouses seemed like a good bet considering the letters they had gotten so far.
Turning her attention to Emma as she pointed to the jellyfish clue Emmeline nodded with a smile pursing her lips to her friend. "I think it's Uric too since he was known for wearing a jellyfish for a hat. Also I think the seventh hogwarts express clue refers to Ottaline Gambol from the ministry who came up with the idea of students being transported to Hogwarts via a train rather than via brooms, apparition or carriages."

“Not quite Miss Vance” she commented upon hearing her answer to clue number seven. “Think of the actual station and not the Hogwarts Express.” It was a very good guess however her clue referred to Kings Cross specifically.
“If you haven’t figured it out already, the number of dashes indicates the number of letters in the name you are looking for. It might help with solving some of the more difficult ones.” They were all famous figures they might have learned about in History of Magic so they were welcome to consult their textbooks if they wanted to or she could give a further clue to make it a little easier.
“If you have solved the name of the location, come whisper it to me and I’ll hand you your next sheet of clues. This new set will give you the exact location of the stack of chocolate frog cards I have concealed behind this specific item.” She waved the stack of papers in her hand and waited for each of the students to approach. “Once you have found this stack, feel free to search through to find a card you want and then hand your sheets back to me. There will be extra prizes for those that manage to solve the most clues. I shall meet you there shortly once the last few stragglers have finished.”
OOC: Thank you for bearing with me whilst I have been dealing with some personal issues. Your students are welcome to ‘move on’ to the next location now if they have figured out the first sheet. Once they have figured out the second sheet, your characters are free to pick their own card out from the stack, you don’t have to wait for me. I’ll keep this open for another 48 hours or so.

Ary might be sure of his answer but he wanted to get the rest of his friends’ opinions too. Bry was on board {he had a feeling she would agree with his answer even if he were horribly off with it}. “Maybe?” He eyed the professor, about to ask her but she definitely heard the question. The group had the answer to Bry’s question a second later.
He didn’t mind that Emma wanted to work out at least one more clue. He read the one she was referring to a few times since the answer did not immediately dawn upon him. “Um… it could be Uric? There are four dashes beneath the clue so yeah.” When Emmeline chimed in with her belief that it was Uric, Ary nodded. “Uric starts with a U and that U would line up perfectly with the word 'greenhouse'.” He for sure did not know the answer to the King’s Cross riddle but he was ready to whisper the answer to Fergersnout.
“Shall we then, guys?” If they didn’t agree that ‘greenhouse’ was the answer, they were free to deduce their own answer. The Slytherin moved over to the woman and softly said, “Greenhouse.” Once he received the new sheet, he waited patiently for his friends to rejoin him. Ary rather liked working with them.
In the meanwhile, he would just study this new set of clues.
