| | Herbology Lesson 2 : aloe, aloe, hair-loe
March March March! Gus was grateful for the third month of the year and also for being close to the fourth. He loved this time of year, the turns of the weather, the in-between of everything possible and also the middle of the school year. He'd almost lasted a year teaching at Hogwarts and nothing had drastically gone wrong yet. Few hiccups, but the kids grades were good, his teaching was the best it had ever been and his plants were THRIVING. As always, the water station is set up outside Greenhouse Five for students to grab a quick drink before class starts, but they are not permitted to enter the greenhouse with those drinks. So drink up, and get inside! If we're being totally honest, it's still probably warmer in the greenhouse than it is outside.
The greenhouse has rows of workstations complete with cubbies underneath for students belongings. Professor Rainwater is leaning against his own desk at the front of the greenhouse, his fingers strumming on top of a pile of brightly coloured notebooks. What is in them? You'll find out that they're empty as soon as Professor Rainwater hands you one when you walk in. Behind him, on the whiteboard that features in all of his classes, is a set of opening instructions like usual. Quote:

Naya arrived for Herbology class ready to work. As always, she wondered what the professor had in store for the students today. She entered the greenhouse and was handed a notebook. Looking up curiously, she said, ”Hello Professor and thank you”. Naya took the notebook and immediately saw the instructions on the board.
Finding a seat, Naya sat down and proceeded to put her things into her cubby. Then, as instructed, she looked at the plant that was on her workstation. It was very familiar. Her mother always had one of these plants around the house. She opened her notebook and began to write.

Bunbury-Foster Slytherin Fifth Year | Professor Pink | Mrs. Bruce Wayne | I'm on a Goat | Glitterpuff | Dumbledore's Defense Squad | BHB Oh, Bernie LIKED Herbology. She was terrible at it, much to the dismay of her mother, but it was a FUN CLASS and the professor was FABULOUS and nice and it always smelled good in here. It was so good to go outside her dorm for a change.
The second year paused outside the greenhouses before class started and took a long, deep drink from the water station. Then she wiped her mouth on the back of her hand, and came inside, about to stow away her belongings as usual before she noticed Rainwater handing out notebooks. "Thanks, Professor!" she beamed at him and selected a cheery yellow one. THEN Bernie put her stuff away and selected a workstation on one of the aisles. As she settled in, she stared lovingly at her plant and its adorable, happy pot.
Alright, this was an easy one. Her mum had a few of these at home AND amazingly, Bernie had managed to NOT EVER kill an aloe vera plant. Plants like this were easy, y'know? Low maintenance, like her. The perfect potted plants, really.
She hurried to jot down her thoughts about the aloe vera.

Isla hadn't expected to be a huge fan of Herbology class, but yet that was exactly what had happened anyway. She still wasn't sure if it was her favorite class or not, because she was doing pretty good in all of them. She actually kind of enjoyed Herbology class, though. She passed on getting a cup of water and headed right into the greenhouse. "Hello, Professor," she said, as she accepted a bright pink notebook from him. She took a peak inside, found out it was empty, and just moved on to claiming a workstation. She stashed her belongings in the little cubby then stared at the plant before her. Aloe Vera. Easy enough. Taking out a piece of parchment and a quill, the first year began to take some notes. Plant: Aloe Vera Facts:
1. You can tear open the plant and use the insides to ease a sunburn
2. TBD
Isla had no idea what else to say about the plant. Since the lesson hadn't started yet, she cracked open her textbook to see if she could find anything else.

Aahahahaha, not.
She was here though and that's what counted, right? "Alright, Gus?" She greeted cheekily as she entered the greenhouse and accepted one of the notebooks. Shame she wouldn't be able to write anything in it though, she hadn't brought along any other supplies. No rucksack, nothing.

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes. Herbology with Rainwater had quickly become one of Claudine’s favourite subjects. Because of this, she was quite excited about the lesson today. “Hi, Professor.’’ See? He even got a small smile from her; those were usually rare so feel flattered, Professor. She took the neon green book handed to her, muttered her gratitude then quickly but her belongings away. As always, she made sure that everything was away.
Now came the task of selecting a workstation. Her gaze lingered on Bernie for a bit then she was off and moving to take a station beside her friend. She put on her best Joe Goldberg voice. “Hello, you.’’ They could chat later but first… aloe vera. Of course it was stuck in such a happy-go-lucky pot. That was so Rainwater. Two facts… hmmm. - Soothes burns
- Are covered in spikes

| Sarah thinks I'm cute | Shan's safe space. "YO, Professor Rainwater!"
Jó was in an exceptional mood today, and a little thing like Herbology wasn't going to stop him. He even offered the teacher a little salute as he took a bright notebook from him. Finding a work station next to Cora, the fifth year offered her a grin before rumaging through his stuff for a pen. He was a liability with a quill.
After glancing at the board, Jó was honestly disappointed that the notebook didn't seem to have any answers in it. Especially because he had absolutely no clue what on earth the thing in the yellow pot was. A not-so-sneaky glance at Cora's work station revealed that she, too, was none the wiser.
And so Józef wrote: Quote:
It's a plant.
It's green.
It smells weird.
There! What is was, and two facts.
That would do.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee Phoebe bounced into the greenhouse and waved cheerfully at the professor as she stowed her things. It was so nice and warm in here, especially compared to the chilly winter-into-spring outside. "Hello, Professor! Grown anything interesting lately?" That was called small talk.
She took a spot near her Bernie-friend, giving a little finger wave. "Hiiiii, Bernie." But look... LOOK, Professor! She was focused and doing her work and whatever. The little plant on her desktop looked familiar, and it only took a few minutes of flipping through her book to find it. Aloe vera! Quote:

| ♣ Heejin here | Did somebody say coffee & cakes? | cat lover ♣ Jillian liked going outdoors this time of the year because it's spring time. Who doesn't love spring? Well, maybe other than the pollen and allergies but spring is always a season to look forward to. She skipped all the way towards Herbology, which is a subject she enjoys. She looked at the professor who was in front and gave him a soft smile "Hello, professor" setting her hand out as he was handing out those cute colored notebooks. What are these for?
She stopped at one of the desks and looked at the plant on top... aloe vera, she thought. Huh, interesting. Will they be talking about aloe vera the entire class? Or is this just a warm up?
Anyway she sat down and got her pen out, opened the notebook and wrote 2 facts about this plant. Quote:

Upon offering Professor Rainwater a bit of an aggravated nod of the head, but refrained from rolling his eyes, the sixth year found himself an unoccupied work station and turned the smiley face pot AWAY from him so he was just greeted with yellow. He had nothing against the color - contrary to popular assumption - but he didn't need his learning materials smiling at him.
His things set out, the plant in question was easily identifiable to the potioneer and budding alchemist. It was a rather easy to identify succulent, not only from the leaf shape but the dense rosette from as well.
Fresh piece of parchment out and dated, Eiji set to narrowing down his facts to just two before addressing his quill and dipping it in the ink. Quote: HERBOLOGY || ALOE VERA a succulent plant species of the evergreen perennial variety - Edible (when prepared correctly, otherwise potentially toxic)
- contains vitamins B, C, E, and folic acid
- one of the only plant sources of vitamin B-12
- water dense plant
Pushing his parchment aside, Eiji leaned back a bit where he sat and waited. He was tempted to inspect his setting's aloe plant...and start harvesting from it.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Jacoby Rivers Hufflepuff Sixth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Callista Rivers Gryffindor Second Year | Isla? Stealthy Ninja Queen | Snake For Life | waddling baker | binge royalty ♚ Charlie entered the green house absolutely not thrilled with all the dirt around. Why did first years have to take this class? Although, she though professor Rainwater was cute... her first big crush, so that made listening to him easier.
Looking down at her older shoes that she only wore in the green house. Ew dirt. Glancing around she tried to spot a friend, after her eyes searched the room again she noticed Isla and moved over to sit by her. “Care if I join you?” she smiled while putting her stuff under the table. Making sure the bag was closed. She turned to read the board, “morning Professor Rainwater”
Opening her notebook she looked at the plant in front of her. She knew this one. Quote:

Caledon Roth The Leaky Cauldron | Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Heath could sum up his feelings toward herbology in one word: conflicted. It wasn't that he disliked the class; it made him nervous more than anything else. He was always afraid he'd do something wrong and get into trouble! As such, he paid careful attention to the directions written on the board as he entered the greenhouse. If there was one thing he'd learned from herbology lessons so far, it was that things were not always what they appear, but these directions seemed refreshingly straightforward. "Hello, Professor," Heath said quietly, nodding his thanks as the man handed him a bright blue notebook. He quickly put his things away and made his way to a workstation toward the back of the room.
The sight of the happy face planter got a slight smile from Heath. He had to admit that was kind of cute, but he didn't think on it for long. The instructions said to give two facts about the plant, not its pot! As soon as he got a good look at the plant, he knew exactly what it was. Having a healer for a mum meant lots of medicinal plants, like aloe vera, around the house. After studying the plant for a minute, he picked up his quill and wrote down:

| Swedishfish Girl! Madame Librarian! Jess's Soul Sister! Sweetest Swede! Cole entered the greenhouse in good spirits. He was very happy that the baby project was over and he could get decent hours of sleep again. He accepted the brightly coloured purple notebook from Professor Rainwater with a bright smile. "Good day and thanks professor Rainwater," It wasn't often that they got stuff from their professors. At his chosen workstation near the back Cole observed his plant from all angles. The smiley on the pot was a bit distracting. Taking up a piece of parchment and some writing materials Cole wrote down some initial plant notes. Quote:

| urine trouble | Pat's Strong Confident Other Half | Pees Like a Champion Unicorn Racehorse As much as he was trying not to let it show, fifth year was starting to get to him. Had he slept properly since the holidays? He doubted it. And even if he did, he didn't feel like it. Because if he did, he wouldn't be struggling to stay awake while he was having a simple ham and cheese sandwich.
Sigh.
Lucas paused by the door to take a deep breath and force a smile on his face before stepping in-
......... Uh????
Taken aback by the, uh, sudden? appearance of a brightly coloured notebook, Lucas stared at it for a few seconds before he came to his senses. Right. Right. His eyes found Rainwater as he took the brightly coloured notebook. "Thanks!" Pause. "And, uh, hello, Professor." He was....... just going to move past now, okay? Okay.
The Gryffindor walked straight towards the closest empty workstation and started putting his things away. He was doing his best to concentrate on taking out the things he needed and ignore how much his cheeks were BURNING right now. He hardly even paid attention to where he was sitting or who he was sitting next to.
But, luckily, he had something else to pay attention to. His green eyes found the whiteboard not long after he was done putting the rest of his things away and he stared. Two facts about the plant in front of him? Well. Luckily for him, he did recognise what plant it was so that was...... easy. And he could write anything he knew, couldn't he? With this thought in mind, Lucas picked up his quill and started writing: Quote:

| YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers The one thing that Carsyn used to be REALLY good at was something she was conveniently forgetting to do more and more these days. Which was, hydrating, so she was ever the more grateful for the water station outside the greenhouse (even though it was always there), gulping it down quickly before entering. Fifth year was no joke.
The brightside? Her 16th birthday was right around the corner and while she hadn't even THOUGHT about what she wanted to do in terms of celebrations (April was such a hard time especially with school and even worse now with OWLs and Prefect responsibilities), she knew she had to do something.
Another brightside ... Professor Rainwater. He was nice to look to at and so upbeat, which Carsyn definitely appreciated, "Thanks Professor ... and Good Afternoon!" Finding a seat, she flipped it open and frowned slightly glancing up at the plant in front of them.
She knew what it was, but it was interesting the pot he'd chosen to plant them in... Smooth, Rainwater, smooth. Almost like he knew this point in the term would be stressful for them and was doing his best to keep everything uplifting and positive.
What did she know about it? Quote:
Plant: Aloe Vera
Uses: It's liquid can help with constipation and sunburns

| doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo Nina felt that she did not have much in common with the herbology professor, but she, too, was thrilled for the month of march. Scotland was far too cold and she did not like that aspect of it one bit. The colder weather made her more irritable the usual, and surely everyone around her was looking forward to the brighter days ahead as a result of this. She paused to acknowledge her professor with a nod, before taking one of the colorful notebooks and walking over to a workstation where she happened to be next to Lucas Dakest. She greeted him with a nod, before slipping her bag underneath her station and into the cubby.
The smiley pot was somewhat creepy, but Nina didn’t mind too much. Taking her quill in hand, the sixth year began to diligently follow the instructions on the board. Because she was a good student and didn’t care if anyone knew it… anymore.
She wasn't a huge fan of herbology, but studying with Calyx always helped. That and this specific plant was something she knew a lot about in the context of medicine. Her year shadowing Healer Beryl had helped with that... as did her current career interest. Quote:
Aloe vera has two substances that can be used to make medicinal products: a clear gel and yellow latex. The gel is useful for topical medications that treat skin conditions (burns, rashes, dry skin, etc.), while the latex can be used with other ingredients to be ingested for relief of other problems. The yellow latex, however, contributes to toxicity and therefore, must not be ingested unless there is proper preparation.

From all of his courses and degrees and many talents. ”I didn’t peg you for a yellow sort of girl, Bernadette.” But, perhaps that was something he didn’t step out of his way to think about. For his work was based in teaching and behind the scenes pastoral care, not knowing colours that kids enjoyed. Maybe. Quote:

Always a delight in the greenhouses. (Gus secretly thought they all were, but that was a different story) Pink though? It wouldn’t have been his first colour choice for her. He definitely wasn’t good at assigning colours to people in his brain then. That had been two students straight away that he had gotten incorrect. Interesting. ”Good afternoon, Isla. Good day so far, I hope?” Quote:

It was a plant. Okay. So for years now, Cora Dredworth had been a pain in Gus’ teaching, but he still found a strong urge to grin at her whenever he saw her. There were many years of memories with the young Stemp House resident. Summer camping, trips out to parks, and of course… teaching. Surprisingly, he always expected worse of her than he actually got and today was no different. But he couldn’t just let her behaviour slide in front of a class. It was probably common knowledge that Professor Rainwater knew the residents well and checked in on some of them more frequently than other students. He noticed immediately her lack of supplies, but was disappointed that she didn’t think to approach him and ask to borrow some for the lesson. He knew she had them.
So, Gus quietly placed a writing set and a plant tools set onto her workstation and gave her a look that suggested she ought to not come without again. ”I expect better, Cora. That’ll be a loss of five points combined for the name and not asking to borrow resources.” And that was all he was going to say on the matter, as others were coming in and so he headed back to the front of the greenhouse and his stack of notebooks. Facts. After the Cora thing, Gus was a little off his game as the next student came into his class. His smile was soft towards Claudine as he handed her a notebook and let her go find a workstation. Of course, close to Bernadette. Why would he expect anything different from the two of them? At least they were getting their opening task completed. Which he appreciated. Quote:

After glancing at the board, Jó was honestly disappointed that the notebook didn't seem to have any answers in it. Especially because he had absolutely no clue what on earth the thing in the yellow pot was. A not-so-sneaky glance at Cora's work station revealed that she, too, was none the wiser.
And so Józef wrote:
There! What is was, and two facts.
That would do. Yo. Yo.
He knew he’d been a teenager with cringeworthy greetings, but ‘yo’ was something that he had never gotten on board with. It just sounded strange. Perhaps he didn’t understand the origins of it all. Nevertheless, Gus smiled and gave Józef a salute in greeting.
Strange kid.
No wonder he set up shop next to Cora. Quote:

She looked at the professor who was in front and gave him a soft smile "Hello, professor" setting her hand out as he was handing out those cute colored notebooks. What are these for?
She stopped at one of the desks and looked at the plant on top... aloe vera, she thought. Huh, interesting. Will they be talking about aloe vera the entire class? Or is this just a warm up?
Anyway she sat down and got her pen out, opened the notebook and wrote 2 facts about this plant.
[/indent] ”Hi Jillian! Good day so far, I hope?” If not… never fear! Rainwater was here! And he’d planned his class to give a bit of pep in the slog of spring for the students. Had they noticed? He had nothing against the color - contrary to popular assumption - but he didn't need his learning materials smiling at him.
His things set out, the plant in question was easily identifiable to the potioneer and budding alchemist. It was a rather easy to identify succulent, not only from the leaf shape but the dense rosette from as well.
Fresh piece of parchment out and dated, Eiji set to narrowing down his facts to just two before addressing his quill and dipping it in the ink.
Pushing his parchment aside, Eiji leaned back a bit where he sat and waited. He was tempted to inspect his setting's aloe plant...and start harvesting from it. YES Mr Rasting. The smiley was MORE than necessary!!! This one needed to take a few lessons from his sister in recognising the good in things. Goodness gracious. ”Hello to you too, Eiji.” Gus resisted his urge to go turn the plant pot back around to face him and sat on his hands for a moment to make sure that he didn’t go over there and give it a little turn and make the smiley on it even bigger. Making sure the bag was closed. She turned to read the board, “morning Professor Rainwater”
Opening her notebook she looked at the plant in front of her. She knew this one.
She liked eating it on tacos. That was a fun trip to Texas with her dad on a trip. Even though her dad just did the muggle version of her moms job his seemed way more interesting because he wasn’t running around hiding things. But she was glad for that trip with her dad, might help her today in class. ”Good afternoon, Miss Rivers.
After studying the plant for a minute, he picked up his quill and wrote down: It had been a long time since September, and still Gus felt like he hadn’t quite gotten through to Heath. He didn’t feel as if his teaching methods spoke to the boy, but he also didn’t feel like he needed to change them. Were his learning outcomes being met in all lessons? Yes. Were grades consistent and improving? Absolutely. But he just wanted this kid to enjoy one of his herbology classes just once before summer arrived. Just once. That was it. He’d take that as his success story. ”Good afternoon, Heath.”
Was that a smile? THE PLANT POT HAD WORKED!!!!!!!!! Quote:

At his chosen workstation near the back Cole observed his plant from all angles. The smiley on the pot was a bit distracting. Taking up a piece of parchment and some writing materials Cole wrote down some initial plant notes. Unlike the students, Gus was pretty upset that the Muggle Studies baby project had came to an end. He missed his Orchid daily. He missed singing to her until late at night and eating his breakfast with her in his lap. It had been a nice distraction from missing his own children so intensely, but now he was back to square one. Waking up expecting to find one of them at the foot of his bed. And not. Disappointing. But worth it, because teaching was his calling. And he could spend all of summer with them. The custody arrangement had worked well in his favour for during the summer and he had all three kids for over two thirds of the break. And they were going TRAVELLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ”You’re welcome, Cole. Good to see you this afternoon.” Quote:

With this thought in mind, Lucas picked up his quill and started writing: Very aware of the state some of the older students were in as they sailed towards exam season, Gus had a brighter smile ready for each of them. And that was the smile that Lucas received when he came into the greenhouse. ”Good afternoon, Prefect Dakest. Couple more minutes and we’ll get started.” Quote:

Ah. One of the Rose twins. Gus always struggled with their names. Not because the girls looked identical, but because his tongue got twisted and there was usually a mishmash of both names. Caryn? Carsys? Syncar? All of the weird ones. It was a problem and Gus was actively trying to tame his tongue and also how awful he felt about getting their names incorrect. He knew them!!! He did! He thought the right name, but almost always said it incorrectly. ”Good afternoon to you too, Miss Rose!”
And that was what they would settle on. Quote:

Lovely to see you!” - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Giving students a couple more minutes to come in, Gus handed out the last few notebooks that he had before waving his hand and letting the door close dead on 1pm. All the positives! ”I’m not going to ask you what this plant is. I’m positive the majority of you know the name of it. It’s aloe vera.” Gus put the pot back down onto the workstation and gave his hand a wave, turning the pages of any textbooks that were present in the classroom to the information page about this plant. Anyone that didn’t have theirs with them could collect one from a shelf or share with someone else. Or choose not to use a textbook. It wasn’t necessary for this portion of the class, but it would be for their homework and upcoming quizzes. ”Now.. Aloe is something you’ve all probably encountered before in your lives. I know your characters have written facts down already, but they can either share the facts they wrote OR something about aloe in it’s different forms. (There are quite a few ways in which it can be used outside of the gel applied to things!) Let’s get some discussion happening with answer piggybacking!! You know Gus loves a piggybacked answer. He’s awful and is encouraging my own teaching habits
We’ll move on in about 28 hours when I’m home from work and situated! <3

It took a while for all of the students to arrive for class. In the meantime, Naya enjoyed one of her favorite pastimes.........people watching. She sat back and noticed each one of her classmates as they entered the greenhouse. You could tell a lot about a person by just watching and observing. It was really quite fun.
At last though, it was time for the lesson to begin. Naya sat back, ready to get her learn on. It was all about aloe vera today and that was what the first question was about. Going with her original answer, as she had written in her notebook, Naya raised her hand. “Aloe Vera is good for soothing burns. You just tear off a leaf, squeeze out the juice and spread it over the burn.” Yes, Naya had had plenty of experience with burns and the aloe vera plant.

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes. The spikes on the aloe vera had Claudine thinking. Were they there as a defense mechanism against insects? Maybe she’d ask Rainwater. Speaking of the professor, he was getting things started. His energy was always something that awed her. How did he do it when he was surrounded by preteens and teenagers everyday? She would have found that mentally and physically exhausting. Claudine looked down at her textbook which had just magically flipped to the page on the said plant. But wow... didn’t Rainwater have a passion for Aloe vera? Naya got them started off with the topic of burns, something which Claudine had written down. “It’s mainly effective for first and second degree burns.’’ Yes, her hand was up and she had waited to be called upon. |

Facts. Bernie's blue eyes darted up to the professor before returning on her friend, whom she watched with nervous apprehension. She hesitated, wondering if she should really talk to Claudine, whom she now literally only ever saw during lessons, or if she should pretend to not hear her?
She went with the former. "Hiiiiiiiii," Bernie replied quietly, letting out a little breath of nervousness. She knew what it was like to be ignored, and she'd already ignored Claudine for like THREE WHOLE DAYS now. She couldn't keep it up forever! Plus, this was HERBOLOGY class. What could go wrong if she worked with Claudine? Quote:

Besides Cece, she was probably in line to be a prefect in a few years. "Hi Pheebs," Bernie waved back enthusiastically. Bernie, on the other hand, would probably never ever be a student leader. Never. Just one look at her record would scare off universities and professors alike, which was kind of a major bummer.
Bernie glanced at the smiley face on her pot and turned it around so it wasn't facing her. She suddenly felt like the thing was judging her big time. Quote:

Bernie shrugged but still smiled at the professor. Granted, she was more of a RED or BLUE girl, but today she needed some cheering up.
SO. Onto the lesson. Aloe vera... "Well to add on to what they said," she indicated Naya and Claudine each with a nod, "the plant will grow new leaves if you cut some off, but I think the ones you cut don't grow back necessarily?" Was that helpful? She'd provided this answer without even LOOKING in her book, which was magically on the right page all of a sudden, thanks to the professor's Jedi powers.
That was a cool trick, Rainwater. Bernie had NOTICED and APPRECIATED it.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee Phoebe hadn't expected the professor to take so well to her small talk attempt, and she smiled HUGELY at his elaborate answer. Not only an elaborate answer, but an invitation to come hang out and be best friends. And Phoebe was always looking for new best friends.
So she'd be showing up at the greenhouses later.
Now then, the aloe vera (which she'd figured out on her OWN, so thanks literacy skills)... had she ever encountered it before? Maybe it was something her mum had around for Potions, but she thought she'd remember the smell. It wasn't pleasant. Was that one of the uses? Stinkiness? Keeps small sisters out of rooms they do not belong in?
"I guess it might be good for healing just on its own, which is pretty cool," Phoebe gave a nod to those who answered ahead of her. BUT. "But they also kinda smell. The juicy bits do, at least."

Isla was still flipping through her textbook in an attempt to add something to her parchment, when she caught sight of someone else out of the corner of her eye. She looked up just as Charlie was asking to sit with her. "Of course you can join me. It gets kind of boring without someone to sit with anyway," she said. "You know anything else about the aloe vera?" She pointed to her parchment, which had only had one fact out of two.
She nodded at Rainwater's question about her having a good day, but she didn't say anything else since the lesson seemed to be getting started. The pages of her textbook flipped and opened toward the page she had been looking for all along. Ahh, thank you, Professor Rainwater! She listened to him go on and on about the plant and finally added 'Thrives in drier conditions' to her parchment. There. Now she had two facts about the plant.
What was a piggyback answer? She had no idea, but she did have an answer. Would that work? Some of the main things she already knew had just been mentioned, but she'd seen something in the textbook that she could chime in with. Raising her hand, she said, "It says right here that the plant had been used to make beauty products like lotion and shampoo." She wondered if the stores in Diagon Alley had any products made with aloe vera. She was sure they did, but she'd never paid that much attention.

| ♣ Heejin here | Did somebody say coffee & cakes? | cat lover ♣ Professor Rainwater also seemed to be in a great mood. "everything is fine, Professor!" and again a smile. Jillian was having a chill time. The class was in the afternoon and the breeze was really nice, the weather was awesome. If they're going to have a chill class about aloe vera that would be the best part of her day too. As the class started she read the two things she wrote on the notebook.
Aloe vera although slimy and gooey has an abundant of uses. "To add to the list, Professor" she said with her arm raised up. Since they're talking about how aloe vera is great for burns and is a great basic skin remedy "Aloe vera is a good face and skin moisturizer" she added. She uses it from time to time, especially during summer when the skin gets really dry. Using aloe vera keeps it moisturize and healthy.

Now that he was done, he picked up his textbook to cross- reference the information, but the book opened to the correct page before he had the chance to find it himself. He blinked, looking up at the professor as he started speaking. Uhh… thanks, Professor. That spell saved him the trouble of flipping through pages!
Heath paid careful attention as the lesson began but nearly burst out laughing at the mention of piggyback answers….or Yoda answers, as he liked to call them. The Star Wars-obsessed Ravenclaw shook his head, trying to rid his mind of the image of the little green Jedi master riding piggyback and refocus his attention. Okay, so… uses and forms of aloe. He listened to his classmates’ answers. So far, he’d heard about aloe’s use in treating burns and in various beauty products, but nobody said anything about the other skin conditions it treated. He thought about giving a Yoda piggyback answer about that, but… was it too obvious? The professor said to name things outside the obvious.
Heath decided to try to come up with something on his own instead. What other forms of aloe were there? He vaguely recalled overhearing his mum say something about treating a patient with aloe latex. Was that a thing? And if it was, what did it treat? He searched his textbook for more information before raising his hand. “What about aloe latex, Professor?” he said after being called on. “It’s the yellow stuff just under the aloe’s skin, and it’s used to treat constipation.”

| connoisseur of comfort ❅ Crayola's Wibby Mrs Alex Turner ❅ Netflix and meow By this point, she was used to losing house points left, right and center. Honestly, it was no biggie and didn't phase the young Gryffindor in the slightest. The reason for losing said points was super lame though. Yeah fine, she'd forgotten her supplies whatever... she narrowed her eyes in Gus' direction.
Because that was his name. GUS. But fine, if he wanted to play like that.
She nodded a hello in Jó's direction and then leaned in to see what he'd written down. She hadn't completely heard the question, but she did hear the part about using the facts they'd already written down in their textbooks. She hadn't written anything down in hers yet, but Jó had so she raised her hand. "It smells weird." Oh, hang on. "I mean, it smells weird Professor Gus, Sir." Was that better?
