| | Yates reveals character too important to cut from OotP
A few days ago, in my UK Order of the Phoenix press conference report, I told you about a character that was almost cut from the fifth film, but was included at the last minute as J.K.Rowling had said they were too important to cut. Quote:
“Jo reads each draft,” David Heyman had said on Saturday, “she reads each screenplay, and she said, ‘You know, I wouldn’t do that if I were you. Or you can, but if you get to make a seventh film, you’ll be tied in knots.’”
This could potentially be spoilery territory for Order of the Phoenix and Deathly Hallows, so if you do not want to know anything about the film or the identity of the character, read no further.

In my report I guessed it could be either Kingsley Shacklebolt or Kreacher. Quote:
He wouldn't specify which character he meant, but having seen the film, I might hazard a guess at it being either Kingsley Shacklebolt or Kreacher.
I said this because neither character really contributes toward the plot in the Order of the Phoenix (the film).
David Yates, the director of the fifth film, has now revealed to MTV that the character was in fact Kreacher. Quote:
“It was Kreacher, actually,” director David Yates confirmed to MTV News on Sunday. “We took Kreacher out, and Jo said, ‘Listen guys, you don’t have to put Kreacher back, but I’m just telling you, if you want to kind of keep a thread going for six and seven, you might want Kreacher to come back.’ She basically told us Kreacher plays a role in Seven, in a sense. She hinted. We thought about it for five seconds, and he came back.”
Quote:
What you won’t see in the Kreacher scenes, however, is him squirreling away any artifacts such as, say, a mysterious locket no one can open. “Bad David!” Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry, teased his director about the locket’s absence. “It was kind of tricky to raise that in our story, because it’s for so much later,” Yates said. “We figured we can probably introduce it later, and that’s the approach we took.”

| Awesome! That's hilarious. I always wondered what they'd do if they left out something important, not knowing how the story ends...

| Yay! They kept Kreacher!
What's the deal with them cutting out the house elves? It's ridiculous, first Dobby is gone forever (apparently when Harry gave him the sock Dobby was 'free from the rest of the movies' or sumthin, as I read), but then Kreacher? They've lost Dobby for the HBP movie if they keep him out, cause Kreacher is definitely important when he 'meets' Dobby!
I would've started a mob, man!
I don't know what the heck they were thinking to take Kreacher out in the first place! Sheesh... good eye, Jo!

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |
