Why do Aussies have to wait for Azkaban? - A young fan speculates

Summary:
A CBBC press packer from Australia has written a report complaining about the June 10th release date.

Article:

Why do Aussies have to wait for Azkaban?

A CBBC Press Packer by the name of Fiona who is 13 and from Melbourne speculates as to why the release date for PoA is later in Australia.

Quote:
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban may already be showing in cinemas in the UK and the USA, but in Australia they have to wait until 10 June.*
In her report Fiona from Melbourne tells us why she thinks this is very unfair.*

"Here in Australia, there are loads of loyal HP fans, holding out for the latest movie.*

But we have been put on 'hold' until 10 June before we can see the greatly-anticipated film.*

Australia may be a smaller nation, but what is the harm of giving 20 million people the pleasure of viewing this long awaited film at the same time as the others?*

Quote:
Australian premiere?*

There is also a problem for me and in which cities the film premiers in.*

If the USA (which has nothing to do with Harry Potter) gets to have a film premier, I believe that Australia should too.*

For the next movie, I'm hoping that Australians get the opportunity to see the movie at the same time as the UK and USA.*
There is actually an Australian Premiere, this is where she has her facts a bit off. Apparently David Thewlis has confirmed that he is attending.HPANA reported the premiere in Australia, check their archives for the venue.

Quote:
With a parent*

Also in Australia Azkaban has received an M15 rating.*

Un-like the first two films, the Prisoner of Azkaban is recommended for audiences over the age of 15.*

And those under that age are expected to be accompanied by a parent.*
Quote:
Older audience*

I think this will put-off a lot of parents letting their children go and see the new movie.*

That would be sad, because the Harry Potter books were meant for children, and the movie version has been made for an older audience."*
I would like to add, having seen PoA, that it's not as scary as some may make out but it's definitely not for 5/6 year olds, but since when has HP ever been for little kids? The target age group has always been from young teens and above, or so one would think considering the series starts with a group of 11 year old children.

What? The USA has lots to do with the film. It's produced by Warner Brothers, an AMERICAN COMPANY. America has a lot more to do with the film then Australia.

I don't think it's fair that they have to wait, but she shouldn't have said the U.S. has nothing to do with the films.

Ok sorry but this girl is complaining way too much. I hope that she would think back a couple of years when we didnt get films until 3 months after the US got it. And besides we got Troy, The Day after Tomorrow and a number of other movies a couple of days before the USA did. I seriously dont mind waiting another 6 days, woah 6 days is a lot of time to wait. And also about the M rating, it does not mean you have to go with an adult, it just recommends you to. MA means you cant get in unless you are over the age of 15.

And yes there was an Australian Premiere in Sydney last night and David Thewlis did attend because he is going to be Rove, a late night chat show, tomorrow night.

Also I agree with you Em about the books being for kids, they are not meant for kids, it is for teens. The books are much darker and more in depth than the first two so younger kids under the age of I would say 8 would most likely get a little scared.

I seriously dont understand what the big complaint is about. I mean some countries dont get the movie until September! Now that would be something to complain about.

it may be an american comapny but the films and cast and books are brittish and america gets alot mor HP stuff than everywhere else in the world which is totaly unfar.

however i thikn that the films hould have been released everywhere at the same time or ayt least within a week or so of each other because it is totaly unfair to have to wait untill like september for a film that everyone else has seen.

it was the same with OOTP some pleaces in the worls are still wating for it to come out.

It should have been a world wide release, they would have made alot more money from it like that. Wasn't OotP a world wide release? Ok it probably wasn't but it should have been like that.

I feel so sorry for everyone in Greece! September!ahhh! and I thought the 10th was bad. After waiting 2 yrs for the movie 6 more days is forever.

And as for the Premire- She was definatley wrong as it was in sydney, george st to be exact and I went and I also believe that there was another one in WA? I dunno, just heard it somewhere.

A week? How is that a long time?

I know that a lot of places have to wait for Harry Potter stuff but I mean this girl is being totally selfish and only thinking about herself. She is complaining non stop and it is only 6 days! And about the premiere, I mean we dont get all the other premieres either, why not complain about that? I mean yeah she is a big Harry Potter fan but we havent really got that many big premieres. So yeah I think she should just be happy we have it after it.

same people were taking what she said in the wrong way. she said something about the USA not having anything to do with harry potter. and some people but started ranting on about them having to do with the film. but she was generally talking about harry potter, the books. personally at first i was annoyed at the june 10th, being a melburnian. becos weren't the others released on the same day all over? anyway. but the school week flew by and i saw it tonight. so in the end it didn't really bother me that other people in other countries had seen it. i have to admit, i didn't really think about it. it was good, but their are things im critical of. but i could talk for hours about it, so i wont rant here, ill find the approriate board and post if i can be bothered.

cheerio

footnote: lately ive been saying cheerio alot, sounding like hagrid. maybe its a subconcious thing, with the movie and all. although ive never really liked hagrid...
