Rupert Grint, director Petter Naess and the cast of
Into the White took part in a press conference on Monday in Oslo, discussing some of the challenges of shooting the World War II drama. Rupert was naturally asked about moving on from the
Harry Potter series, in which he portrayed Ron Weasley, and getting used to be asked about the famous saga. Highlights of those, as well as junkets with co-star Lachlan Nieboer, can be seen below. The film is set for a March 9, 2012, Norwegian release.

What made you come to do [Into the White]?
Rupert Grint: I just thought it’d be a great challenge to make a film in Norway. I thought it’d be really exciting to have a complete change of scenery from filming Harry Potter for ten years, doing the same kind of thing. It was just quite refreshing on a mountain for three weeks, and playing Smith, this great character whose just angry.
How do you plan your ongoing career after this?
Grint: I’m just going to take it as it comes, really. It’s been quite a strange experience since I finished the Harry Potter films. I’ve just been picking things that appeal to me, and just enjoying it. That’s what appealed to me about [Into the White], which is a great story, great cast and it just seemed like a great thing to do.
Do you have a strategy to pick roles that will make people think of not Ron Weasley?
Grint: Not really a formal plan. I suppose I’m looking for characters that are not wizards. (laughs)

Rupert Grint: It was kind of crazy. I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew it’d be snowy and cold and stuff, but once we got up the mountain it was like being on the moon really. It’s just such an extreme, harsh place. The weather was changing constantly. It was hard work to stay in character and do the dialogue because you just can’t hear each other, you can’t really walk, and it’s very difficult. It was a real challenge. It was great fun.
