Videos: ITV's 50 Greatest Harry Potter Moments special, with J.K. Rowling & cast
ITV1 in Britain aired their documentary and special on the 50 Greatest Harry Potter Moments, as chosen by fans, on Wednesday evening. Narrated by Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), the special featured, in addition to the top 50 moments and scenes in the first seven Harry Potter films (at the time of production, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 had not been released and therefore could not added to the compilation), new interviews with J.K. Rowling and the cast and crew of the series, from Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Ralph Fiennes, to Julie Walters, James and Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, Tom Felton, and Matthew Lewis.

Well now that the last movie is out they need to do the 100 favorite things in Harry Potter. Then they can include the whole series, because Alan Rickman in the last film is great!!! There are so many touching moments in the last film and you have to put the Ron/Hermione kiss in this!!!
There are so many moments that should be higher on the list. There are several that should have been included on the list, and some that shouldn't have been, in my opinion.
I will say that I can get behind the #1 moment for sure. I remember being eleven years old in the movie theater on opening night and seeing Hogwarts for the first time, "Hedwig's Theme" coming up. I got goosebumps, it took my breath away. I had this longing deep in my chest; this moment of WHY CAN'T THIS BE REAL? So I think it's fitting it's number one.
I'm also glad that SS/PS got the most number of moments (12), five of which were in the Top 10. I always hear from people how the first two are the worst, and I've never understood that. The other directors took more artistic liberties, but seeing SS (and CoS) on screen, I felt, literally felt the book. It had the magic of the actual books. And I think it lost that a little between PoA and HBP. It wasn't until DH1 came out that I started to feel the books again. Until DH1, SS had been my favorite of the films. So I'm glad that even after all of this critical feedback that the first two weren't the best, SS has claimed the most spots on this list.
Number 1 disappointed me. And why was when the golden trios first meeting number 50? I think that should have been one of the 1st ones. And why wasn't ron and lavenders kiss in it? Or Harry and ginnys?
I agree! They should've included the Ginny and Harry kiss, or even Ron and Hermione....since they are the couples that actually ended up together~
And seriously, one scene with Draco?! He has so much funnier scenes than that one (although I love tht one), like when he turned into a ferret.....
I'd remove 46, (completely unnecessary to the plot, still mad that more important things were left out to make room for it) 36, (again, Yates shows he's a rather "blah" director from his bad use of angles) 16 (staged, cheesy), and I'd switch 2 & 1 around. And I'd have to make an entire new list just for things in DH2!
Some of the placements aren't what I would have done, and it would've been cool to wait to include some DH2 moments. But the coolest thing is just seeing all of these moments again, which is exciting in this format. I love all the perspectives from the cast, crew, and other celebs!
I definitely agree with #1 that moment was incredible witnessing what the school looked like and comparing it to my(and everyone's) imagination. I can't picture it any other way
Number 46 TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH! I mean Harry and Hermione dancing is a cute moment of one friend trying to cheer another one up ( even though David Yates seems to always try to spin it into something else) but I hardly think it deserved to rank on a Greatest HP moments list.
Obviously, any time you have a list like this there are going to be disagreements, but as a Ginny fan (and a Harry and Ginny fan) it is pretty revolting that they do not include a single scene featuring her. Not Harry rescuing her in the CoS. Or her anguished scream at the “death” of Harry in DH2 (one of the most powerful scenes in that movie). Or Harry meeting the Weasleys for the first time at Kings Cross. Or the Epilogue. Or her bravely running out to rescue Harry when the Burrow is being attacked in HBP. Or their sweet first kiss in the RoR. Or the hilarious scene of the second kiss in DH1 (“morning.”) Or their touching break-in-the-battle kiss in DH2 (“I know”). Or so many other memorable scenes.
But they do include Harry kissing Cho. And that truly awful No. 46. Blehhh! Who came up with this list?
