Videos: Harry Potter CNN special; Daniel Radcliffe talks Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Daniel Radcliffe sat down with Digital Spy in New York City recently to discuss his work in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, including his first screening of the film in NYC with his How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying cast and crew, his complete praise of Alan Rickman as Snape in the finale, and keeping in touch with his costars, including Rupert Grint, Emma, Watson, Tom Felton, and Matthew Lewis.
When you look back and watch yourself, especially in the first couple of movies, as little you, what do you think?
Daniel Radcliffe: It’s very strange. When we did a screening of the film over here, and I invited a lot of the people from the show [How to Succeed] to come and see it, it was merciless. When all these images of me as a little kid came up, they’re “Awwwwww!” – all sixty of my quite good friends. So, it’s very, very strange. And it kind of is sad, because I’m not that innocent, lovely little thing anymore. It’s just nostalgic and weird. But I’m very, as I said, proud to have grown up and also, when I look at those first films I just go, “God, we had no idea what we were doing. And to a certain extent, all of us didn’t. It was new ground. If you look at the visual effects, just the jump between one and two in the quality of visual effects is huge. We were all finding our feet, both cast and the director, Chris Columbus, was saddled with the biggest film franchise in the world, and he had to start it all off. It wasn’t an easy job, but he did a fantastic job on it. So it’s just very peculiar when you see photos of yourself and footage of yourself at that age, but I’m sure I’ll be learning to live with it for a long time.
It’s great that you’re proud of the final film. It’s fantastic.
Daniel Radcliffe: Yeah, it’s great, isn’t it? I was just so happy with it. The moments when Hogwarts starts coming to life? Even though I, who was there, saw those shots … ‘cause those shots are the least interesting to film when you’re just filming an empty place. And then suddenly you put those suits of armor – those knights of stone crashing to the ground and coming alive. I was just, “Yes!” I was so excited by it.
Was it an emotional experience, watching it?
Daniel Radcliffe: Yeah, it was, more than any other, and not just because it’s the last film in the series but also because the performance that I found the most moving was Alan Rickman. I’ll have said this in interviews a lot recently, and I’ll keep saying it, because I do think it’s the film performance of his career. I think he should get nominations for best supporting actor because it’s so touching and heart-wrenching and beautiful, what he does. I’m really thrilled to share the screen with him.
Are you going to miss your co-stars and being part of that Potter holy trinity?
Daniel Radcliffe: Yes, absolutely … very, very much. Myself and Rupert and Emma have spent ten years of our lives with each other. It’s been an amazing privilege to watch them both grow up and change and develop so much as actors. I mean, we all have, but not just Rupert and Emma but also people like Tom Felton and Matthew Lewis, who come into his own in this film and shows us what he’s always been capable of. We’ve all grown up so much and we all just learned by doing and by being around each other. So we fed off each other all the time in terms of our enthusiasm and our shared knowledge as we were learning as we were going along. It’s been incredibly special and I think the bon d between me and Rupert and Emma is pretty unbreakable because I don’t think anyone knows what it’s like to go through this craziness. So yeah, I will miss them both very, very much, but hopefully we’ll find other projects to work together on.
Also, the nearly 40-minute long CNN special with Larry King on the Harry Potter series, with new interviews from Dan, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, James and Oliver Phelps, Tom Felton, Helena Bonham Carter, and Robbie Coltrane is online now. While most of the interview segments were previously released, a few new tidbits, including questions Rupert had for Dan and Emma, can be seen here.
Quote:
Rupert Grint: On the last day, I brought them both a trumpet. They’re probably wondering, “Why a trumpet?” Larry King: Do you know why? Daniel Radcliffe: Just ‘cause he’s mad and he’s Rupert. I don’t know that there’s another reason behind it.
Rupert Grint: Dan, would you ever consider dyeing your hair ginger? Daniel Radcliffe: Yes, but only for him. At his request, I would do that.
Rupert Grint: Emma, who do you like best, me or Dan? Emma Watson: Of course. (laughs) Neither. I don’t think either of them are that great. No, I’m joking. Obviously I love them both equally because that’s the diplomatic answer. That’s the right thing to say.
Whaaaa? A trumpet? Hahahahaa that's sooo "Rupert" and Em of course she loves them both LOL at little kids who are scared of her When she said "I'm not gonna do anything to you,It's ok" made go Aww She is indeed very caring as the boys said

I love the clip where they're reading the bit about Nicolas Flamel, it's great to get a little insight to that stuff ... great clips and great interviews, don't want it to end
