Video: New Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Phelps twins interviews on Deathly Hallows 2
Emma Watson and Rupert Grint began their junket session for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 on Monday morning in London, where they spoke to The Telegraph about Ron and Hermione's kiss in the final film. The pair discussed how awkward it was for them to film the scene over two years ago, and what they thought of it once they saw it in the final feature. That can be viewed here.
Rupert spoke to The Guardian in June about his work as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter series, and although he didn't say much, the feature itself was peppered with numerous quotes from costars and mentors, including Matthew Lewis and producer David Heyman. Rupert admitted that at some points in the middle of filming the series he did find his performance and scenes rather dull and tedious to work with, but was pleased by the range he was given by the final in Deathly Hallows. Highlights of that can be read here.
Quote:
His character, Ron, takes on an increasingly reactive role, always there in a scene but mostly to puff out his cheek , or shake his head, or raise an eyebrow. "There were a few times when it would get quite boring. And you'd want this or that film to just end." There's a scene in Order of the Phoenix when characters in the foreground talk about Ron's father being "mortally wounded". In the background Grint puffs out his cheeks, shakes his head, and raises an eyebrow. He wasn't at the top of his game that day.

Images of Grint, as well as those of co-stars Radcliffe and Emma Watson, are already plastered on nearby bus-stops in anticipation. "You can spot it from 50 feet away," he tells me in the Soho cellar bar, "someone recognising you. And then you watch it build. I do miss it, sometimes, the invisibility. Being able to get round Tesco. Not meet anyone who wants to take a picture with you. It's manageable but it's just, like, constant."
At least neither picture-taker calls him Ron. That happens, he says, quite a lot. "I answer to it. I turn around to it in the street."
I tell Grint is was a tour de force, beyond his years, etc. He laughs and parries. "I've also seen footage of Dan and Emma with another potential Ron. He was really good. I'd have picked him."
Quote:
"Any slower and he'd be in reverse," his close friend James Phelps, who plays Grint's onscreen brother Fred in the films, tells me. "Nothing fazes him," says Matt Lewis, a fellow wizard called Neville in the franchise. "Rupert wears his fame lightly," Potter producer David Heyman explains, "and is very laid-back. It's not like I'd say he's warm, exactly. He's just a good, decent person. Not unctuous. Not obsequious."
And not a big one for confessions. "He isn't the type to call you up with a problem, no," says Phelps.
"The Grints are incredibly close, and they put a real emphasis on having a good time," says Heyman. "They're very chilled, no nonsense." Grint calls his dad "Nige", says co-star Lewis, "and has done for as long as I can remember. That's Rupert's way."
Quote:
"There comes an awkward stage when you're growing up," he says now, "when you're just really aware of yourself, and quite self-conscious. And I did kind of pull back a little bit." Radcliffe responded to the attention by becoming talkative, a deliberate charmer. "Dan over time became more confident, the quick-witted one," says Heyman. "Rupert would never show off in any way."
James and Oliver Phelps were also interviewed by The Guardian, where they commented on their plans to move ahead of the Harry Potter series, how much they want to be disassociated in terms of their twin relationship, and how much they dread their mother's reaction upon seeing Fred's death scene in Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
Quote:
For one thing, they had to look the same, something they had always fought against.
"I did cringe a bit," says Oliver. "In certain bits, they are dressed differently, and that was very much us saying they wouldn't always dress the same. But the argument was made to us that Fred and George dressed the same to trick people, so it made sense."
Even when it came to casting them, there seems to have been a temptation to see them as one unit. At the first read-through of the script on set, James and Oliver still didn't know which Weasley they would be. "The casting director said, 'You're kidding, right?'," says Oliver. "She went over to speak to Chris Columbus [the director] and JK Rowling. I like to think there was a lengthy discussion about who was who, but she came back and said: 'James, you're Fred; Oliver you're George.'"
"I suppose I liked Fred because he appeared first," says James.
"It's that old rivalry thing," says Oliver, with a smile. "Who has the most lines, who can be on screen the longest. There was that competitiveness between us. We will compete over anything and everything."
Quote:
"It was horrible," says Oliver, of filming the scenes in the forthcoming second instalment of the final film. "I was trying to get myself into this emotional state. You had to put yourself in character, and seeing your brother lying there, pale, was quite hard. I think we did about four takes."
It's impossible to say, of course, but does he think it would have been the same if he hadn't had to deal with the pretend death of his real brother? "Maybe, because you still have to put yourself in that emotional state, but it probably added to it, the fact he is my brother." Both are dreading what their mother will make of it.
The article with Rupert was interesting and I have to say I don't blame him for getting bored in the middle of the series with what he had to do. Rupert has so much to give as an actor, I know alot of fans have always found it a shame that Ron or Rupert wasn't given the proper material to work with in most of the films. I am so glad Rupert knocked it out of the park in Part I and I can't wait to see him to the same in Part 2.
Awesome interview, Rupert is just completely epic. Love him!

I saw these the other day. The article about Rupert was really quite interesting, different from other articles which are all starting to sound the same.
I love all the interviews, Emma and Rupert look so much more grown up! And I can't blame Rupert for getting a bit bored, because he does have less lines than Emma and Dan, and in the books Ron is also very expressive through his facials, so you would get a bit bored just acting through your face for twenty takes or so.
Rupert is so lovely, and he is actually an amazing actor. He's a star, and he hardly needs to try to get brilliant results.
its time to choose between what is right and what is easy
love these interviews!!!
oh my gosh though that video of Emma and Rupert.. HILARIOUS! it is so true though, this is probably one of the most anticipated kiss as we have been waiting for it for SO LONG!!! "her face just kept getting closer, and closer" LOL!!!!
hearing the reactions from the actors about the last film is just if even possible more excited for the film hearing how amazing it is!!! only 9 freaking days until the midnight show!!
ha! I always wondered how they picked which of the helps twins was going to be George and which was going to be Fred...
That's funny
It's so weird that this is the last movie...
Aww rupes always looks lovely in interviews. And I also don't blame him for being bored in an interview cause they ask him the same questions constantly. =|
I just realized how much inner strengh and fine quality that Rupert has as an actor. I look forward to see him showing his range of emotions in his future work.
