She keeps quiet over the unimaginative additions, which is a shame. Regardless of what might be in her contract, her influence over public opinion while she was writing, was such that no exec would have ignored her if she did make her disagreement public. I say exec, because I feel that Kloves, while I dislike him, is a puppet in the hands of the studio execs who think that the hero should end up with the girl and try to downplay the 'other' sidekick and turn him into a jibbering idiot. Of course a witty, brave and sarcastic best friend of the hero wasn't at all sucessful in the first three Star Wars films. FINALLY the voice of reason returns! I completely agree with the concept of Harry trying to cheer Hermione up. JK said that during Ron's time away, Harry and Hermione did share something that Ron was not able to be a part of, that doesn't take a thing away from the Hermy/Ron relationship in the slightest.
As far as Rowling herself is concerned, my respect for her is pretty much nil with regards to the films. She's got her millions, she's richer than the Queen, what does she care what the fans who GAVE HER THOSE MILLIONS think about the total hack job the studios are doing to her novels? And again, I completely agree with the fact that Rupert Grint has been given the shortest possible end of the stick with regards to his character's development since Prisoner came out. He has had no chance whatsoever to stretch his acting talents, other than his little fight with Harry in GOF. THe movies have shifted focus almost entirely to Harry and Hermione as the central figures, and Ron has been relegated to a guest role. It's disgusting and it's unfair to Rupert and those of us who love Ron so much.

I think it was confirmed a while back that Scrimgeour was gonna have an extra scene at the beginning of the movie where he gives a speech in the Ministry of Magic.

Oops johnlocke06 beat me to it.
I don't see how Kloves is messing it up by adding a dance scene.
I think the reason Half Blood Prince is my favorite Harry Potter movie is because it did not try to copy the book chapter-by-chapter, which is what the first two movies did and they tended to drag and get boring.
In Deathly Hallows there is a lot of traveling and pondering which will not translate to film very well. Books are very passive in the way we experience them but movies are very proactive. To have Harry and Hermione sit sulking about the coming doom would be quite boring to watch and as a screenwriter Kloves has added a scene which will add spice and a little joy, because Harry and Hermione still have each other. While we're on the subject of adding/altering scenes, did you notice in the behind-the-scenes footage how they were being chased in the forest by what seems to be Death Eaters? Now I'm sure some of those who prefer movies to be tied down to their source material, plot-point by plot-point, would say this never happened or is uncanon. As I've argued before about movies being very proactive and visual, a scene like this probably breaks up the monotony of the trio just trekking through the woods for months. That or it could be an extension of the Snatcher scene.
I'm not to sure about your arguments against Kloves and the way he treats Ron. I think I would agree that he makes him look like a jerk in the first few movies but that's kind of what Ron is because he is a guy of heart rather than of intellect or valor. Plus, when you're younger to tend to be mean to those you like. Also, what about the last scene in Philospher's Stone! That was a noble thing for Ron to do!
In the end JK Rowling, though she really has no power within the studio system, has signed off on Kloves and I've gotten used to him and the film medium. We have to remember that these movies are a separate medium from the novels and they are told in separate ways!
Oh and I also do agree that Kloves did a little bit of Harry/Hermoine shipping in the first four films (until he took a break from Potter in Phoenix).
WHen you say "canon" moments in film what do you mean by that exactly. I'm just wondering. When you say canon do you mean the way they happened in the book or the way the felt in the book?
I think their intent was right but the outcome was a little "eh..." in that new scene. Those are Snatchers, not Death Eaters. I believe they are more competent in the film than they are in the book. The scene has been beefed up to make it more action-orientated, creating a more thrilling climax to the first movie.

I bought the Blu Ray edition of HP and HBP at Walmart at 4 am to make sure i get a copy but i won't be able to view it till Dec 25!! so i have not seen the trailers or anything about DH!! i did get a discount for coming in Walmart at 4 am to get the dvd!! my mom is giving it to me for Christmas!! I can't wait!!
I have not been really happy with JK Rowliing for a long time! She has let the movies not represent the books at all!! The first two did as much as they were made because Chris Columbus made sure of that!! i would rather have him do the last two. in one of the movies credits rolling Rupert was not mentioned as one ofthe main three. i can't remember which one but everybody who has not read the books and even the ones who have read the books have seen Rupert Grint's character sorely underwritten and produced!! why most of the media think it's about Dan and Emma when it comes to movie credits!!
