CBS and 60 Minutes released an 11-year-old interview with J.K. Rowling, before the series was adapted to the big screen and during the early days of the author's success from the Harry Potter series. In the 1999 interview, Jo explained what her saga was about, and teased about Hermione Granger's first date in Goblet of Fire, which was released in summer of 2000. This really takes me back! This was about when I first got into Harry Potter, between the 3rd and 4th books. I find the mistakes made amusing (McGonagall the potion professor hee hee) and how they have to explain things that are now common knowledge even to people who have never read the books (what Hogwarts is)

I can't get the video to load but even without watching it I'm astounded. 1999? I think this was around the time I picked up my first Harry Potter book. I really do feel nostalgic. I can't even begin to explain how emotional I feel right now. Hermione's first date? It's hard to imagine how far the characters themselves have come...she's married and has kids now! *feels squishy*
It goes to show how even without the movies she was famous...and what more there was to come for the future. And this was before Daniel was even cast as Harry!  It's strange to think that there wasn't an adorable little boy playing Harry as we read the books.  | |
