In a new interview with Parade Magazine Imelda Staunton discusses her character in Order of the Phoenix, Professor Umbridge, joking that she could well be a "fashion icon". Quote: P: She reminds me of that perfect little girl who is really evil.
IS: I don’t think her own childhood was particularly happy. She’s the sort of person who should never be given power, and of course, she’s given it and abuses it terribly. She’s unusual and cruel which makes it a great role. If you pay attention you’ll notice that she’s a fashion icon. Pink is going to catch on now.
Quote: P: There’s real pressure around your role. Every kid wants to know, “How is Umbridge? What’s the name of that actress who plays her? Is she like that character?”
IS: I’m glad there’s some mystery, and they can’t wait to see her. You tell anyone who asks that I’m exactly like that woman. (No better not, I’m not like her). Just remember she’s not a villain at all, not in her head. She’s doing the best for this place, Hogwarts. She has no scruples, but she has a great belief that she is the one person who can save all of these children.

[B]I saw the movie last night at midnight. Sorry to dissapoint, but I thought it was horrible. Professor Umbridge wasn't anything like I had imagined, although she did wear all pink.

Imelda was the perfect Umbridge. Really annoying and infuriating, really pink, and really horrible. I loved her.
Although I don't think pink's going to catch on as a fashion trend though... after watching OotP last night, pink makes me sick. (so do kittens haha)

I watched OotP at midnight and I think that Imelda Staunton was great as Umbridge! She made me cringe but also made me laugh. Some of her scenes were a bit comical relief.

i just finished reading the chapter "Prof. Umbringe" where they have their first lesson with her...lol...ITS REALLY FUNNY!!! and i have always haed umbringe, even though she is trying to do what she thinks is best for the kids, she just acts horribly when she doesall that stuff for not alowing clubs and quiditch practice and all that stuff..it always anoys me when i read that....grrr...but, i love Imelda... i think shes great for the part! and shes real funny!!!

I don't understand the people who were disappointed by her - I thought Imelda was perfection. She made Umbridge the perfect combination of sweet fakeness and horrifying evil. Like I've said before, THAT is what makes for the most terrifying villain ... someone who appears to be sweet and mild, and who in the end reveals a ruthless darkside. She was great! And some of her suits WERE quite nice, though most were quite tacky, lol.
