| | Tom Felton talks dry humour & darkness in final Harry Potter films, publicity
Tom Felton spoke about how much he and his costars have loosened up over the years while promoting the Harry Potter films in a new interview, as well as the dry British wit in the series, and how portraying Draco Malfoy on-screen has changed his perspective on life. Quote:
"As the films have gone along, they have got darker," Felton says. "But the humour has also gone up tenfold. It's a unique type of humour. It's British dry wit — there are no jokes, just awkward silences. In my opinion they're not just scarier, they are also funnier."
Quote:
"We are relaxed," Felton says. "Doing a talk show or talking to a newspaper journalist is a lot more relaxed and a lot more fun; it used to be much more of a nervous thing when we were kids. And by now we've learnt the right things and the wrong things to say, plus we're genuinely passionate about the films, so it's nice to talk about something you're excited about sharing with people."
Quote:
"It's a strange experience and the gravity of what we've done together hasn't really sunk in yet," he says. "To have your puberty documented in a series of films is weird and even looking back at it now you can cringe at some of the early ones because of how young you look.
"It's hard to come up with a sentence that explains it all but it's been an incredible journey and we've got more and more excited each year."
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I has now been released worldwide. Click on the banner below to order tickets for the film at Fandango. Tickets are also on sale now in the UK; head over to the Harry Potter official UK Facebook for more information. |

Hm, I like their humor.
Lol, I would cringe too if I had to look at pictures of myself from 10 years ago.

New England humour is a lot like British humour - dry and smart. I know exactly what he's talking about.

There were not a ton of funny moments in DH1, but those that were there (the twins, "Morning," and the Polyjuiced scenes in the Ministry) were much appreciated. It is an interesting point for Tom to make about the movies getting funnier, because Draco gets more serious and darker as the movies go along.

I love the British humour! Part One was super funny in some parts! The twins and ron were the funniest though!

British humour is clever... unlike other senses of humour around the world, like slapstick. It requires you to have good general knowledge, and a quick understanding. Perhaps that's why it's not accessible to all.

So true! I saw the first movie again, last month, and it surprised me how smaaall everyone looked. Draco looked like such a cute, little villain and it tickled me that he'd seemed so scary [to me] when I had first watched the movie. =D |

I think DH has balanced the humour and the darkness of the film..
