Post TLC & Mugglenet interview with Rowling: Part 1

Yup that's right. The first part of Melissa Anelli (TLC) and Emerson's (Mugglenet) interview with J.K.Rowling has been put up on the web. It can be read here. Additionally, the first part of a report from the HBP launch in Edinburgh can be read here.

Quote:
ES: This is kind of a strange question but how many times have you read your own story?

I would never, if for example I was heading to the bath, and I wanted to pick up something to read, I’d never pick up one of my own books. Therefore there are thousands of fans who know the books much better than I do. My one advantage is I know what’s going to happen, and I’ve got a lot of backstory.
Quote:
MA: OK, big big big book six question. Is Snape evil?

JKR: [Almost laughing] Well, you've read the book, what do you think?

ES: She's trying to make you say it categorically.

MA: Well, there are conspiracy theorists, and there are people who will claim -

JKR: Cling to some desperate hope [laughter] -

ES: Yes!

MA: Yes!

ES: Like certain shippers we know!

[All laugh]

JKR: Well, okay, I'm obviously – Harry-Snape is now as personal, if not more so, than Harry-Voldemort. I can't answer that question because it's a spoiler, isn't it, whatever I say, and obviously, it has such a huge impact on what will happen when they meet again that I can't. And let's face it, it's going to launch 10,000 theories and I'm going to get a big kick out of reading them so [laughs] I'm evil but I just like the theories, I love the theories.
Quote:
ES: This is one of my burning questions since the third book - why did Voldemort offer Lily so many chances to live? Would he actually have let her live?

JKR: Mmhm.

ES: Why?

JKR: [silence] Can't tell you. But he did offer, you're absolutely right. Don't you want to ask me why James's death didn't protect Lily and Harry? There’s your answer, you've just answered your own question, because she could have lived and chose to die. James was going to be killed anyway. Do you see what I mean? I’m not saying James wasn't ready to; he died trying to protect his family but he was going to be murdered anyway. He had no - he wasn't given a choice, so he rushed into it in a kind of animal way, I think there are distinctions in courage. James was immensely brave. But the caliber of Lily's bravery was, I think in this instance, higher because she could have saved herself. Now any mother, any normal mother would have done what Lily did.

That is an advantage all right. If only I could be a mind reader for one day...

She's so bad!! This is one of the things I look most forward to in book 7.

Killing me! A very good explanation about James though...

True.

I must go read the rest...

Great interview! JKR's a little less reserved that she usually is. I guess that's because there's only book 7 left, and there's not as much left to spoil.

I think the shocking thing we find out about Lily will relate to to why Voldemort let her live.

Great interview. Not much to say on it because of spoilers being mentioned.

Asolutely a great interview. I'm glad they got the chance to interview Jo they asked the best questions. I can't wait until tomorrow and Friday when they both post more. They are so lucky...

I love what she say about any mother doing what Lily did, even Malfoy's mother was willing to do anything for his life.

hehe..i liek the interview i mean some of the questions were very well thought out and you could tell were asked by some good HP fans (Emerson and Mellisa) other reporters would ask the same question Like is So and So going to Die...What is the title to book7 and stupid questions like that

For some reason, all of a sudden, I dont want the 7th book out because I feel I want to remain a Harry Potter fan forever. I just cant imagine when the books will be over and we (all of us) will never have that feeling of anticipation of the next Harry Potter book.

Cool interview, though!

LOL that's a great interview! Although I think we could do better if Emma was interviewing... hahahha See? JKR didn't want to say that Snape was bad. Maybe there is hope for us yet?

I think of all the interviews with JKR in the last week; this one is by far the best. Emerson and Melissa really know the books, so they can ask intelligent questions, and, even if they just get a "cant tell you that" response, we know their thinking is in the right direction.
