Post Snitchseeker Implements New Fan Fic Ratings System

We have exciting news for all writers and fans of Snitchseeker Fan Fiction! We are in the process of planning some very cool new features for our Fan Fiction section! One of the first things we are implementing is a system for rating our Fan Fics. This will not only help our talented authors know best how to post their stories, but will help the reader to be able to search for fics which contain their preferred content.

As reported by Snitchseeker this past April 2005 here, The New York Times published an article about the use of The Motion Picture Association of America ratings system (G, PG, PG-13, R and NC-17) in reference to Fan Fiction, with HP fiction being named specifically. The Association felt that use of their rating system was copyright infringement and demanded that writers stop using them. Fan Fic sites and communities all over the net have since begun creating rating codes of their own. We are very pleased to report that SnitchSeeker has now developed a detailed and easy to use system as well!

We invite everyone to come check out the new ratings. They are now posted in Grimmauld Place and in the Restricted Section. PMs are being sent to all Fan Fic authors to help facilitate the use of the new system. Questions about the new ratings and rules can be asked by posting in Grimmauld Place's Q&A thread. Once we get our ratings on board, the ratings will be included in the titles of all FF threads, allowing yet another way for readers to choose which fics are right for them.

We are very excited about the improvements that will be coming in Grimmauld Place and elsewhere, and promise more good things to come!

Huh, I never thought of the movie ratings as being a copyright infringement. That explains the T for Teen in games, but what do books use? Anyone know? I like your division and description of the different catagories. It seems to be pretty straight forward. How soon before it starts?

I imagine that books use Libraries' system for shelving books according to audience group. *shrug*

As for our new ratings system, it goes into effect immediately. If you have any Fics on Snitchseeker, expect a PM very soon from one of the FF Mods about giving your thread a rating.

We don't rate books. We rate fan fiction that is hosted here at Snitchseeker, and it will be the author's job to rate his or her own fics as they're submitted. The reason we want to rate all fiction threads is so that readers can search for fics with certain maturity of content, and our younger members are protected from accidentally seeing content which may be too mature for them.

Questions about the new ratings system really should be asked in the Q&A thread located in Grimmauld Place though, so that everyone knows where to find the latest answers.

well rating books/fanfics is easy. just like rating movies. If it has bad swearing or adult themes then obviously it would to be rated NC17 or R. If it has no swearing and is a comedy about the Dursleys being forced to live with the Waesleys then it would most likely be rated G.

I personally think that the MPAA is overreacting, but its cool that the site is making up its own ratings system.
