of the holiday season at The Scholastic Store in SoHo thanks to a special
partnership between Scholastic and the New York Urban League that is spreading
joy to children in need, with brand new books and educational toys to unwrap
this December. Here's how it works:
-- From now until Christmas Day, December 25th, shoppers at
The Scholastic Store can buy a gift of their choice for donation to
an underprivileged child in turn receive 10% off their entire
purchase.
-- Scholastic then will match every gift donation with the donation of
a brand-new book.
-- The donated gift will be placed into the New York Urban League
donation box located at The Scholastic Store.
-- The New York Urban League will distribute the gifts and books
through shelters, schools and other locations throughout New York
City.

Scholastic also partners with the National Urban League for the year-round
Read and Rise initiative that provides African-American parents and families
with culturally-enriched materials to help their children gain early literacy
and develop a love of reading. The initiative includes the new Read and Rise
early literacy magazine and Read and Rise parent guides, as well as public
service announcements designed to increase awareness of the important role
parents and other caregivers play in helping children develop early literacy
skills and to reinforce the importance of reading to children from birth.
