Rupert's dad comments on the 'autograph ban'

A few days ago The Sun ran an 'article' claiming Rupert Grint's school had banned pupils from asking for his autograph. Rupert's father has now spoken out about these claims calling them 'bizarre'. His agent and old headteacher have also commented.

Quote:

A bemused Nigel Grint, father of the star, told the Mercury:

"It's all a bit of a mystery — I don't know where it's come from. He left the school last summer after completing his GCSEs, and even when he was there, there were never any strict stipulations about that [signing autographs]. It's a bit bizarre."
Quote:

Rupert's agent, Chris Harris, said:

"It always amazes us when we get these stories, but it's the timing of this one that's really strange. We weren't contacted by The Sun. I can only assume they were rummaging around for stories and found this one in their files. It's not true anyway - he spent very little time at the school because he was filming so often. So there was never a ban."

He said Rupert was "slightly surprised" by the story.
Quote:

Richard Hale headteacher Steve Neate said: "Rupert had an untroubled time here because the boys respected his privacy. The headteacher at the time, Dumbledore [Mike] James, made an informal request to the boys in assembly ahead of Rupert coming back from filming just to give him space and treat him normally.

"There were no written rules about it and there wasn't any case of detentions being given because the boys showed good sense. Once Rupert was in school, he blended in. When I came to the school it was hard to pick him out because he didn't have a big following at break or lunchtimes.

"We do follow his progress, but we were amazed to see our name in the press again. There were a few wry smiles here about how out of date their story was."

That is interesting to hear. I figured it was not true. Oh well, just nice to hear anything on Rupert!

Aimz 09-23-2005 09:50 PM

Poor Rupert

Leeness 09-23-2005 09:53 PM

Some things the Sun come up with are completely wierd. You deffers should have an imagination before applying for that place

cocogodessmegrly1 09-23-2005 09:53 PM

Never heard these rumors before.. but that seems interesting!

EmmaRiddle 09-23-2005 09:55 PM

I loved reading this. I was grinning the entire time. The Sun newspaper deserve to be ridiculed. They are quite possibly the worst newspaper ever. And this, along with countless other articles, proves it. Hang them out to dry, guys. You don't mess with the HP fandom ;)

Mrs Felton 09-23-2005 09:55 PM

What's the point of making up a stupid story like that??

[room.of.requirement] 09-23-2005 09:58 PM

I think the timing on that is crazy.. The Sun should've at least made sure that Rupert was still in school.. LoL..

Lissydove 09-23-2005 10:01 PM

Amen Emma! Don't mess with HP fandom is right! I can't believe, or maybe I should, that the Sun printed such nonsense. I'm glad the truth is out!

[the.time.turner] 09-23-2005 10:34 PM

It's amazing how the media likes to make stuff up just to get people to buy it or even read it. Poor Rupert.

It really is all quite hilarious. And it was fun reading some facts... about how his schoolmates didn't pester him and act like he was the best thing since sliced bread. And that Rupert never acted like that. Really rather cute. :)

HPfan365 09-23-2005 10:54 PM

I wasn't sure if that story was true when I read it but now I know that it wasn't. I can't believe they would post lies about that just to get a story.

Hermione J. Potter 09-23-2005 10:55 PM

Yeah youre right Emma. But the Sun is better than the WORST magzine ever printed which is The Enqiuier... cos it keep on saying women are giving birth to aliens...... Anyway they both are the worst magzines printed in World History.... i think.....

LOL I'd have to see what The Sun looks like, but probably. We have a few tabloids like that. The Sun here though does report on the news, but it's fastly becoming less than the brilliant newspaper it once was. Although I'm not sure everyone has The Sun. We have 'The Baltimore Sun'.

kellann227 09-24-2005 12:11 AM

um...interesting :)

WickedSchmuck 09-24-2005 12:19 AM

When I first read it I laughed and laughed! They are complete morons.

You know what? I don't get why all the news sites picked it up - and now you think they'll posted this story? I doubt it. They'd rather focus on the negative, fluffy garbage than the honest truth. >:/ So sick of it - sick of the dozens of sites that have posted this idiotic nonsense.

Wonderstruck 09-24-2005 01:26 AM

Well it is rather strange, but I can see their point. I mean it could be rather annoying to have like all these people swarming around you to get your autograph. But still to ban it I think is really funny. I'm guessing they could see it as a disruption to the learning in the classroom.

prettyinpink 09-24-2005 01:31 AM

wow!!! interesting!!

Whoot! By what I've seen on this site, I'd have to agree with that statement. And you don't seem to like the Sun too much, do you? But I never thought the whole autograph thing was real in the first place...

Accio Firebolt 09-24-2005 01:58 AM

that IS weird....
