Rupert Grint talks Harry Potter films and life & extended Cherrybomb clip (UPDATED)
Actor Rupert Grint was interviewed during his stay at the Berlin Film Festival this past weekend to promote his feature, Cherrybomb. In it, he is asked about how much of an impact a film like Cherrybomb will make on Harry Potter fans, and how the Harry Potter films have changed his life.
Quote:
Mister Grint, this cocaine-sniffing, sex driven character with the quiff you play in Cherrybomb is more a kind of Anti-Harry Potter-character ...
Rupert: (laughs) Indeed. It hasn't much in common with Ron Weasley. It's a much more adult movie. I savored that a lot.
Was it a conscious decision to accept this role?
Rupert: No, yes, maybe...
Doesn't your agent worry that this film about out-of-control teenagers could damage the harmless-image of Harry Potter?
Rupert: It's possible. But this movie is made for a different audience. We've all grown a bit older, that's why I can get away with it. I'm 20 now.
Is it true that there's a contract clause prescribing good behaviour for the Harry Potter movies?
Rupert: I never heard about this before. I really haven't ever got up to anything.
Are you looking forward to shooting your next Potter film? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be a two-parter.
Rupert: Yes, it will take 14 months or thereabouts to shoot the movie. That's really a long time. But it's worth it. It's a great book of great importance, because it's the last movie.
Are you already thinking about life after Harry Potter?
Rupert: There's still some time, but somehow yes.
How did the Harry Potter hype influence you, your family, your friendships, your bank account?
Rupert: Of course it has changed my life completely. But everything happened so fast and I had a really great time.
Are you asking yourself sometimes what would have become of you without Ron Weasley?
Rupert: Oh, yes. And I have no idea. Probably an ice cream man, that was my goal for a long time. (laughs) But seriously: I was very lucky.
The Harry Potter success never cost you any friends?
Rupert: No, I was always in contact with my old mates. I had the weekends off and I lived really close to the studios. I could honestly live a fairly normal life.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released November 19, 2010 and May 2011.
UPDATE: There is an extended short clip from Cherrybomb online, where Luke and Malachy invite Michelle into a club. It can be viewed below.
Wow...I can only say one thing, Rupert rocks! If he had become an ice cream man all the ice creams would have melted because he's soooo hot!!
----First to post!
I dunno .....although it would have been cool to have been an ice cream man. I think he would have chosen a different path had he never came to fame. I would think that he would have done something in art or graphic design. I think he would have definitely gone to college, or he would have a formula one seller like his father. I change my mind about a career numerous times. Hopefully what ever he chose he would have been happy.
I mean seriously! Can they ask him about Cherrybomb atleast once?! THat is the film he's promoting. I love Everything Harry Potter, but that's kind of rude to completely ignore the movie that Rupert is doing publicity for.
Awww I love Rupert!!!! I really admire and love the way these "kids" the trio have grown up without all the baggage of the typical Hollywood teen. They are good role models for teens and young 20 somethings!
Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch
Nice interview. It's nice to see Rupert continuing to take on roles outside of the Potter films, expecially when they're quite a bit different than his Ron Weasley role.
