is this big news in the UK?
Not really - they were both drinking & the impression I get is that she wasn't that far off the consenting age of 16.

Quote:

Prosecutor Ann Evans told the court: "I take the view that the nature of the offence was such that two teenagers at a private party where unfortunately, on all sides, too much drink was taken, a caution would be appropriate.

"After considering the matter over the last few days and, having taken the opportunity to speak to the victim and her family, the crown propose that the defendant is cautioned for this offence.

"The defence is prepared to accede to this. I am sorry this case has been listed for trial and we have not been able to reach a decision until today."

I really do dislike the sort of publicity celebrities (even child stars) have to endure.
At 19 he is no longer a child. To not release a statement would be detrimental considering his connection to the accused was already public.

you know how many rapist we have running around here?
This wasn't rape. You shouldn't throw words like that around so casually.

that was exactly what i was about to ask. this isn't a rape case, is it? if the girl was willing or consious about it, then you can't put blame on the guy only, but the society as well. i'm not saying what he did was RIGHT, but we should take a look around before throwing accusations.

Hmm ... too much to drink then ...

But it is still wrong

MizFit_of_Society 09-04-2007 03:42 PM

I agree with what Rupert said.

*fairydust04* 09-04-2007 03:49 PM

I really respect him for standing up against his friend, and showing his views.

Lissy Longbottom 09-04-2007 04:16 PM

That must have been hard for Rupert, since that guy is his friend. At least he's standing up for what's right

Hermionespell 09-04-2007 04:40 PM

That is sick.

GryffindorGirl13 09-04-2007 04:52 PM

I agree with Rupert.I also feel he should have a harsher punishment, but that's just me.He shouldn't have been let off so easy.

Chocolate Frog 09-04-2007 04:59 PM

Rupert did the right thing Way to go!!!

qoldenwonder 09-04-2007 05:31 PM

Well thats a shocker! ...And completely disgusting.

JOpotter 09-04-2007 05:39 PM

That's sick... Good of rupert to stand up and speak out! What a loser that joshua kid is though... and letting him off with a warning isn't good enough. <_<

angeline_fire 09-04-2007 06:11 PM

To do taht at a birthday party, is beyond- disgusting.

Nicnevin 09-04-2007 06:28 PM

dancerbookl 09-04-2007 08:24 PM

Paint.the.Limelight 09-04-2007 09:19 PM

*sputters* Know what? I hate our world for this kind of stuff. That is sick and wrong to the fullest extent. I can't say I blame Rupert. I totally agree with him, especially as it was at Rupert's 18th! And I hope that poor girl will be okay.

HermioneLuna 09-04-2007 09:31 PM

Poor Girl, and I if I were in Rupert's shoes, I will be really disgusted to him. Peopl! Wake up! I think is better to enjoy a party with your friends than making that kind of things to people. Life is one. And is to enjoy it healthy.:ron2:

starlightangel 09-04-2007 09:47 PM

I'm not sure why Rupert had to publically announce that seeing as pretty much no one knows of it in the UK, but i can see he wouldn't want to be seen as a sex offender here, considering his position.

However, it's easy to notice no one has asked if she consented to this. Not that that would matter at all considering laws. Or how old she is. She's just 'underage'.

HP Girl22 09-04-2007 09:53 PM

pervert! i would have so that 2 a friend. i don't care who u r that's just gross! At his bday party no less, go Rupert 4 standing up 2 him!

pgspickles 09-04-2007 10:34 PM

Oh man. That is very digusting and I am very proud of Rupert for putting down on people for this type of behavior.

prettyinpink 09-04-2007 10:37 PM

hey i would be to!

EmmaRiddle 09-04-2007 10:45 PM

Nope, the wording implies she was at least consenting. Which, as Imi said, is all well and good but by law anyone under 16 cannot consent to a sexual act, period.

padfoot326 09-05-2007 12:48 AM

i think rupert was really smart in making a public statement about it so people knew his view of the situation.. it would have seemed awkaward if he just didnt mention it at all.. after all he is an adult.. thats terrible though that it was at his 18th birthday party.. tht is supposed to be really special..

Quote:

this wasnt rape. you shouldnt throw words like that around so casually.
your ABSOLUTELY right.. thats is not fair to other real rape victims. ppl should make it sound like its nothing.

Double_Trouble 09-05-2007 01:18 AM

I'm glad the Rupert isn't behind his friend and he's saying that what his friend did was wrong. I bet this makes Rupert think about his sisters... That would probably be terrifying thinking that it could've been one of them...
