Rumour: No Quidditch in 'Order of the Phoenix'? - UPDATE
 

An Italian newspaper recently printed an article in which it was hinted that David Yates and Michael Goldenberg had decided to cut Quidditch from the fifth film.

Allegedly it was stated that the game wouldn't affect the rest of the plot and therefore could be cut.

Please remember to regard this as a rumour until we hear otherwise from WB.

UPDATE: The Italian website that posted the original rumor is now stating that they have been in contact with someone who works on the OotP set and that this person told them that the set of the Quidditch Pitch is still in pieces at Leavesden Studios. However, their source won’t confirm or deny if there is going to be a quidditch scene in OotP.

Perhaps they just meant actual Quidditch games. I don't see the point in showing the Quidditch games themselves. However, if they mean the storylines surrounding Quidditch then I would be most annoyed because they seem to be including a lot of other things of less importance in the movie.

well they need to do the fight but they may just change it around... i mean POA only had like 3 min of quidditch time... i dnt think it is that important the actual matches it is the whole malfoy/twins/harry thing after

They can't possibly skip Quidditch, especially the scene where Umbridge chucks Harry, Fred, and George from the game and then bans them from the team altogether, giving Harry more skin-cutting detentions. Please just let this be a rumor!

They better not ommit the Twins' grand exit! It's an awesome scene, and it shows Umbridge at her wit's end. :D

One year until the movie hits American theatres! I'm so excited, I'm going to see the midnight show! :D

They cut my Sean from PoA because of budget/time constraints and I was livid, they better not pull the budget/it doesn't really pertain to the plot card on us. :no: *is still crying over Oliver being absent from the third movie* :cry: :lol:

I do enjoy Quidditch, but I think I could live without it if this means I would see more of the other actors..... :SBFC:

there has been so sort of broom action in each film so they might cut out the quidditch scenes :( but they should keep fred and georges exit as it is a highlight and they need brooms in the film somewhere.

OMG - I hope hope hope that's just a rumour. They can't miss out the Fred and George stuff. Plus, it's hilarious to see the outtakes of Dan falling off the broom!

Quite frankly I think what will happen is much of what happened in GoF. We get a glimpse. There are a few parts of quidditch that help the plot along and work well for HBP. They can still give us WIOK, the R/Hr kiss, and a few other things without actually playing quidditch. But I think we will see parts. For instance the game in which Harry and the twins get knocked off the team (needed to see why the twins decide to leave and why Harry stops playing, plus it makes the audience hate Umbridge more), and part of a game to see why Ron doesn't go with Harry and Hermione with Hagrid.

:gasp: WHAT! No Ron playing Keeper!! To me thats very important to the plot! Helps build Ron's character more. And I was so looking forward to Weasley is Our King song :erm: I hope this is nothing more than a rumor *crosses fingers*

Like they really emphasize on Quidditch anyways. I mean I think the only big Quidditch match the movies showed was in the first movie. Let's hope it is just a rumor. Quidditch is very important in the 5th book. They better have the game.

I really want to see the weasly is are king Quidditch part.

I heard this as a rumor too. I think JK siad something like it takes really long to write the quiddicth scenes. :hpbroom: I think if JK has to tie up all the loose ends it might be hard to fit into the story. I don't think Harry is going to have much time to play because he needs to find the horcruxes. He also didn't plan on going back to Hogwarts either.

I also thought when I heard this rumor that maybe there will be no quiddicth because Hogwarts won't be open for the 7th book. Or if Hogwarts is open it will be in a "lock down". So there will be not extras other then the regular classes.

It's something to think about...

No Quiddtich? Then that would, lessen (for lack of a better word) Ron's role in the film. Ron is defined in book 5 by his appointment as prefect and Gryffindor Keeper. I thought that was important.

UPDATE: In other news Today Ottery was arrested for trying to kidnap Rupert from the set of Ootp and slapping the screenwriter around saying, "I know you're not Kloves but you're still a screenwriter ... *slaps* "

Interesting update. Reminds me of the Knight Bus rumor that was later debunked. It also looks to me like they're covering because it's stated that originally it was said that they heard it straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. I hope the WB confirms or denies this. I still think that essentially it will be like GoF and PoA where you barely saw anything, but enough to move the story along.

I hope this remains a nasty rumour because I will be just horrified at how bad this movie potentially will be if they take out the Quidditch storylines of Harry, Ron and Ginny, the Twins, Angelina. They don\'t have to play an actual Quidditch game, just keep the storylines. God, when will Harry Potter people get some brains!!!! They just always come up with their crappy ideas for another crappy movie so that Harry Potter fans will never have something to be proud of. Harry Potter is a huge franchise and even though they make a lot of money at the box office, they could be making so much more if they actually tried to stick to the books more. I truly can\'t stand them and their ineptitude. I wish they would just fire everybody and get people who love Harry Potter like Peter Jackson loved LOTR instead of idiots who think they know what works when they apparently don\'t have a clue.

I think it would be a mistake to cut quidditch all together. They should at least cut in to the end of the quidditch game where Harry, Fred, & George get banned from quidditch. It just makes you hate Umbridge that much more!
