| | | Rowling beats Grisham
J.K.Rowling, author of the Potter novels, has reportedly beaten John Grisham in the best-selling stakes. Quote:
Former lawyer Grisham is upset his reign at the top of the book charts has been ended by the 39-year-old British writer and her six Potter novels, whose phenomenal success has brought her a personal wealth of $826.5 million (GBP435 million).
A TIME TO KILL author Grisham says, "There's no doubt who's number one.
"I was number one for a long time. I tried to act like it was no big deal, but I kind of miss it."

Well obviously we know how great JKR is!!!
And i don't blame John for missing the nymber one spot...if you were there for a long time it kind of becomes normal for you and you think it's natural...but when someone takes that place from you, you then realise how important that place is for you and you start to miss it!!!
Congrats to JKR!!!

| In Love with Touz | | Lil Mikky-Mu ^ I really disagree with that. I think they each have a particular style, but they are both high-quality writers. Ms. Rowling's writing has an ease and a flow that's difficult to achieve. That's my opinioniated opinion lol.
But I'm glad Mr. Grisham was honest, no false "Oh, well, it's not important" kind of statements... when you're a writer, of course it's important! I mean, I was on the top SSer list just once, and I was all giddy!

well, it's really no surprise. J.K.'s better known, so her books sell more, and Harry Potter's always getting spots like this.

I agree that they both have different writing styles, both great, but appeals to different groups of people. But that's like asking 5 yr olds if they like reading Mark Twain's or Dr Seuss' stories better (and of course they will pick the latter)... Point is, it's all in the audience.
The news was about JKR being a bestseller, meaning lots of people bought her books. Not necessarily who writes better... But YAY JKR!! And good lord that's a lot of money!!!

In the age bracket of who buys John Grisham (usually older teens and adults), I think it's safe to say that John Grisham is at least almost as well known as JK Rowling. Just think of how many bestsellers Grisham has released...
So I don't think it's about being 'well known', because with JK she has a huge target with children and Grisham obviously doesn't, so you can't really compare the two, at least in my opinion.
Anyway, Grisham took it very well, and I shall continue reading both author's works quite happily. I must admit, though, I'm always much more excited about JK's new books than I am about Grisham's!

I think i've read just about all of John Grisham's books. I was on a kick about 6 months ago. They are all good, some better than others.
It's quite an achievement for JKR because Grisham has released so many books and not only that, but so many of them have been made into movies:
The Firm, The Client, The Rainmaker, The Chamber, A Time to Kill, The Runaway Jury.
My 3 favorite Grisham books were The Rainmaker, The Chamber and The Runaway Jury.

Grisham is a good writer...I like to watch the movies made based on his novels. However, Jo is awesome in the respect that she attracts a wide variety of audiences. (obviously an average 12- year old wouldn't read and become involved in Grisham's novels). But JO gets children, adults and Seniors interested and that is a great accomplisment.

Cap off to you, Miss Rowling. I used to read Grisham's novels, (a total of four, I think), and I've seen three of his movies, but his are so unpredictable that they're predictable. That's just an opinion, of course, but I much prefer J.K.'s works. Not only the ease of the writing, but the genre as well.
