Rik Mayall, cast as Peeves in 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone', dies at 56
 

Actor Rik Mayall, who many may not remember as being cast and even working on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone as Peeves the Poltergeist, died recently at the age of 56, his management has said. No footage as of yet featuring Mayall as Peeves has been released by Warner Bros. or any other avenues.

From Sky News; no word yet on what caused his death.

The fact that they had cast him then never utilised the character's full potential is such a shame.

Rest in peace, Mayall. You were, and always will be, awesome.

Oh that's so sad Drop Dead Fred is dead :( he was pretty much peeves in that movie

I console myself in watching his genius in such shows as Young Ones & Blackadder.. Too funny and he had that charm and charisma. He was a great pick as Peeves.
