In an interview with the Oxford Mail Toby Jones, who voices Dobby in the Harry Potter films, talks about the positive draws of the series and the popularity of the franchise. Quote:
“Well, Harry Potter is so beloved, and people have such a strong mental image of the characters, that you do feel a real sense of responsibility and you want to get it right for that reason,” he says.
“But it’s such a huge global thing that I try not to think about it too much,” he laughs.

He was also important in Goblet, but they didn't include him at all. Dobby was supposed to be the one who helped Harry with the second task, and he was supposed to be the one who finds the Room of Requirement, and not Neville. In #6, he was supposed to follow Malfoy, along with Kretcher, to find out where Malfoy was hiding. Lots of Dobby moments, but they cut those out. That's really too bad.
