| | Quote of the Week - Stephen King
Renowned American author Stephen King discussed his opinions on contemporary writers recently, praising Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling for her literary work. When asked if his success helped pave the way for other highly successful authors like Jo and Stephenie Meyer (of the Twilight series), Stephen stated he knew that Jo read his stories when she was younger and he believed it influenced her as a writer. Quote:
I think that I serve that purpose for some writers, and that’s a good thing. Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. ... The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn.

Ahhhhhahaha YES! This quote is made of win.
Stephen King is the King and he just told it like it is, yo. Meyer's creative enough she just...yeah, not a good example of precision language or writing. Quote:

Oh the bluntness, hehe.
I wouldn't say SM can't write a darn, her books are enjoyable, just not that great in terms of quality. Nothing compared to JK or other authors better than JK. Still, he could have been a bit more diplomatic, but ah well |

LOL wow that just made my day!
Even if you like Twilight, you have to admit that Stephenie Meyer's writing isn't very good ... especially compared to Jo!

King is AWESOME! Finally! I think all the fangirls will silently retaliate to that one. Good to know he's on Jo's side

Haaaaaa. I just read it on LJ, and I was like, I hope this is on SS.
But yeah, he's right; I mean, I've read the Twilight series, and I love the books, but if you put Stephenie Meyer's books vs. JK Rowling's books, there's just no comparision, as JK is one hundred times better. -nods-
Though I agree with someone up there that said he should have been a little bit more diplomatic. The Twilight Series are Meyer's initial books, after all.

Either way, Harry Potter is waaaay better. -nods- But, Stephen King --who's books I LOVE-- should have had some tact. Even if what he said is true.

Harsh...
It's quite true though. JK is an infinitely better writer when it comes to technique and style. However, I'm a huge Twilight fan & although she's not a good writer, her plots & characters more than make up for it!! [I think she has a better knack for developing characters than JK]
Anywho, both HP & Twilight rock <3

Lmfaoooo.
All I could think while reading that was, "Boy oh boyyy is Shad gonna love thisssss." I lost track of how many times he's pretty much said the same thing in his own words. *le sighs* And, while I snickered when I read it and completely agree...Owweee? Quote:

Anywho, both HP & Twilight rock <3 I wonder if creating such an unrealistic guy that seems to stem from every woman's dream has anything to do with it. *whistles and loves on Edward regardless*
Even mediocre characters in HP like....STAN *said the first person who came to mind* have more characterization and claim a unique aura that Meyer's characters lack, if you ask me.xD They're just ideals that we can't help but be attracted to. *shrugs*

Its logic that in a harrypotter fansite nobody speaks in favor of twiligth. I think it's a really interesting topic, but can't be compared to Harry Potter, they aren't in the same line...I think Stephen King shouldn't be so biased...It's like comparing pears and apples...Magic and Vampires...they are completely different story...sorry....but how do u feel if the twiligth fans start saying crazy things about HP??....common..we hp fans should stand up for our tolerance, bravery and courage..not for criticizing....

Why should Stephen say anything in any way that isn't exactly how he feels? To spare the Twilighters feelings? Please. He spoke the truth. He's not out to make friends with SM or her fanbase. I applaud him for that.

That was a bit harsh! But, I'll give him props, he has gumption to tell that to legions of Twihards that will pummel him with rocks.
But, of course, even though I am a Twihard, I won't pummel him. Simply because he is Stephen King and he was half way true. But I wouldn't say she can't write. She can. Just not as good as JK Rowling.
